The Matlosana Local Municipality, which incorporates the town of Klerksdorp in the North West, has issued a warning for people residing close to the banks of the flooded Vaal river to prepare to evacuate should the need arise. Mayor Fikile Mahlope has confirmed that notices of possible evacuation were sent to residents facing the greatest threat of flooding in the town's Orkneyvaal suburb. Disaster management authorities say the opening of 2 sluice gates at the Bloemhof Dam has alleviated the threat of flooding but high water levels continue to pose a threat. Klerksdorp spheres are small, spherical to disc-shaped objects that were found in 3-billion-year-old deposits in South Africa, and they've sparked a lot of mystery and debate. Pseudoscientists claim they must have been made by intelligent beings because they seem so out of place. Geologists say they're just the result of natural processes. There are other mysterious historical finds too, like the Antikythera mechanism, which is an ancient Greek analog computer, and the Baghdad Battery, which might have been used to generate electrical current thousands of years ago. Legendary author of Forbidden Archeology, Michael Cremo, reveals fossil evidence that homo-sapiens have lived on planet Earth for millions of years in episode 81 of the Far Out with Faust podcast. We're digging into some of the most mind-blowing and mysterious archeological finds with the world's premier alternative archeologist. Tune in as these two tear into Darwin's theories and the subsequent take-over of cognitive authoritarianism, and the absolute power of ideology. But Cremo isn't some conspiracy theorist — or worse, a science denier — he's incredibly wise, humble, soft-spoken and article. His incredible body of work is on par with his gentile humility. Make no mistake about it, he based his entire book (the bestselling Forbidden Archeology) on the actual fossil record. So why haven't you heard about these incredible finds? They don't fit the accepted  narrative, naturally. Not surprisingly, Faust finds a way to bring it back to the Rockefellers and their motivation for the stranglehold they have placed on “accepted science.” Coexistence — the idea that different species of humans walked the planet together for millennia — has now become accepted scientific fact. Is it so strange, argues Cremo, to acknowledge the evidence that suggests humans have been around for millions — even billions — of years? That is not a statement made from conjecture. It is made from scrutinizing fossil records and we invite you to listen to the evidence presented and decide for yourself what you believe.  We're unearthing some of the most incredible examples of archaeological finds:-A modern human hand bone found at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania that dates back least 1.84 million years-Modern human footprints discovered at Laetoli, Tanzania in estimated to be 3.7 million years old-The oldest human footprints found outside Africa, close to one million years old, found in Happisburgh England-Geological evidence that indicates the Sphinx may be far older than mainstream Egyptologists believe-Human remains and tools found in billion-year-old rock formations in California by world-renowned geologist JD Whitney-Discovery of the Antikythera mechanism, the world's first computer, found beneath the sea-Klerksdorp spheres, the mysterious metallic objects found in South Africa that set off a firestorm of controversy Buy Michael Cremo's book, Forbidden Archeology: The Hidden History of the Human Race https://a.co/d/5m37MCGConnect with Michael CremoWebsites: https://www.mcremo.com/http://www.forbiddenarcheology.com/Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/MichaelCremoItsReallyMe/#Podcast #Archaeology #HiddenHistory #MichaelCremo #FarOutWithFaust

Feasibility studies this year for Mponeng gold mine deepening – Harmony

Time will be spent this year on doing feasibility studies relating to the deepening of the Mponeng gold mine on the West Rand, Harmony Gold CEO Peter Steenkamp said on Tuesday. In response to Afrifocus Securities analyst Des Moines on how important Mponeng woud be in the years to come, Steenkamp said in his view it would be very important. (Also watch attached Creamer Media video.) “We haven't made that final decision yet. This year we're going to spend time on doing the feasibility studies,” said Steenkamp. The studies would go beyond the deepening part of the Ventersdorp contact reef (VCR). The VCR is an Archaean conglomeratic gold placer, mined in the Carletonville, West Rand and Klerksdorp goldfields. Steenkamp said that with deepening, much of the carbon leader reef (CLR) would also be included. The CLR, a metre-thick conglomeratic unit with a thin bituminous base, is one of the major gold-bearing conglomerate horizons in the central rand group of the Witwatersrand basin. “But then we're also looking at the extraction of gold from the Tau Tona and Savuka shaft pillars,” added Steenkamp during question time covered by Mining Weekly. Harmony is working very closely with the University of Pretoria as the sponsor of the university's rock engineering chair. With Bambanani, much work was done to match the extraction rate of Bambanani shaft pillars to the the mining itself to manage seismicity and much intellectual property (IP) was gathered on shaft pillar extraction in general. “We think that the IP that we created by doing all of that will probably help us to mine the Tau Tona and Savuka pillars”, projects that have still to be approved. Regarding Mponeng, Steenkamp expressed confidence in the grades that are available at Mponeng going forward and expressed the view that the deepening of Mponeng was likely to be given the go-ahead. “We'll most likely give it a go, but again, we still have to take it through the proper approval process. It is certainly a fantastic orebody and will add about 30 years of life to the current Mponeng mine. On the potential shaft pillar projects, he said: “The Tau Tona and Savuka shelf pillars are about the same size as the Bambanani shaft pillar, and we have four shelf pillars in Tau Tona and Savuka, on the carbon leader and the VCR. “There has been some mining in the past and so not all available, but it is potentially three or four Bambanani's that are out there. “Bambanani is now closed but we mined about 84% of the gold and it was a massively profitable project for us over time and done very safely, so we're confident that we've got the IP to do that mining,” he added.

Despite going through a rough patch during the initial hard lockdown in South Africa, Dawn Wing couriers says it has since seen a significant surge in e-commerce. “The lockdown period business was really tough as volumes were low, but we made a decision to stay open to support our healthcare customers,” says Dawn Wing chief customer officer Hilton Eachus. “That said, post lockdown revenue has increased sharply by more than 40% off the back of aggressive growth in e-commerce and strong trade from our healthcare customers.” Eachus says Dawn Wing has spent a “a lot of time and energy” investing in the e-commerce and healthcare sectors over the years and now serves many customers in both these sectors. “Of course, most of our healthcare customers have continued to trade strongly throughout recent months, but we’ve seen an unprecedented growth in e-commerce with volumes 40% up on Black Friday peak volumes and more than 60% up on normal pre-lockdown trade.” Eachus says parcel volumes are up roughly 50% compared with pre-Covid levels. “Interestingly we’ve seen a shift to regional delivery areas and our cheaper services seem a more popular choice, which is expected given the economic pressure everyone is under. Actual parcel sizes, however, have remained constant,” he adds. “We’ve also seen some polarisation of service choice in recent months with some customers opting for slower cheaper services to protect their cost, and others opting for same-day and on-demand services. “As a result next-day services have lost out a bit, which is to be expected given the reduced flight availability from the airlines. We expect this to normalise somewhat in the coming months as flights become available again.” Eachus says absolute profit has also increased owing to the strong growth in revenue, but notes that margins in the logistics space are certainly under pressure across the board owing to excess market capacity. “We’re working hard to ensure we run the business as optimally as possible in order to continue to generate good returns.” The increase in business has seen Dawn Wing add 25 vehicles and three new hubs in Kimberley, Harrismith, and Klerksdorp since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa. “We’ll add further hubs in Swellendam, Moorreesburg, and Middelburg in the coming months,” says Eachus. Dawn Wing currently runs 350 of its own vehicles. The company has 16 hubs around the country. “We believe e-commerce has finally arrived in South Africa and is now here to stay,” notes Eachus. “We made a decision over seven years ago to invest in this sector and we’re glad that it’s paid off for us as we are reaping the reward. That said we believe we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of what’s to come in this space and we’re excited to be part of it for the long term.”

Projects developed in renewables zones, gas and grid corridors ‘not exempt’ from environmental processes

The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) has dismissed suggestions that renewable-energy projects developed within the designated Renewable Energy Development Zones (REDZs), including the three new zones being proposed, will be exempt from all environmental authorisation processes. In July, the department called for public comment on the creation of new REDZs in Emalahleni, Klerksdorp and Beaufort West, in addition to the eight existing REDZs in Overberg, Komsberg, Cookhouse, Stormberg, Kimberley, Vryburg, Upington and Springbok. Simultaneously, it published notices proposing that the environmental authorisation process be streamlined in the designated REDZs, as well as for gas and power transmission developments, respectively, built within the ‘Strategic Gas Pipeline Corridors’ and ‘Strategic Transmission Corridors’ outlined in the notices. The DEFF is proposing that developments in the REDZs and the gas and power corridors follow a ‘Basic Assessment’ process rather than a ‘Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment’ process. It also proposes that the timeframes in which the department takes decisions on such applications be reduced from 107 days to 57 days. “This is because the proactive site sensitivity work has already been undertaken through two two-and-a-half-year Strategic Environmental Assessment processes. These determined the environmental sensitivity of each of the zones and corridors,” the DEFF explained in a statement. On August 17, Environment, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Barbara Creecy announced an extension to the initial 30-day public comment period, setting a new deadline of September 4. In a second set of notices, also published in July, the DEFF proposed the adoption of a Generic Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) for gas transmission pipeline infrastructure, along with a new standard for developing electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure within identified geographical areas. For gas infrastructure the EMPr would replace the need for a site-specific environmental management programme when implemented, but the developer was still required to undertake an environmental impact assessment and to commit to implementing the provisions of the generic EMPr. “It will be an offence should they not do so,” the DEFF said. For grid infrastructure, meanwhile, the notice outlined a standard for infrastructure within identified geographical areas and the exclusion of this infrastructure from the requirement to obtain an environmental authorisation. “The exclusion of the expansion of electricity grid within the pre-assessed strategic corridors is based on the fact that the country has been developing grid infrastructure for many years and the impacts and mitigation measures are well known and exclusion will be based on the adherence to the standard and failure to comply with the standard is an offence. “The standard has been developed by environmental specialists and includes a public consultation and appeal process for each project. The standard will reduce the timeframe between conceptualising a grid expansion project to its implementation and means that energy can be provided to the user faster or on time in the case of new renewable energy developments.” The DEFF stressed that none of the initiatives have been implemented as they were in the consultation phase.

This is episode 134 and its April 1902. The Boer military and political leadership has been permitted by the British to travel to Pretoria by train and will meet with Lord Kitchener to talk peace. All the fighting of the previous two years and 6 months have led both sides to this moment. And yet, there is one more major bloody battle left which is difficult to fathom – other than to say the Boers launched a cavalry charge that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Napoleonic era. It was a hugely courageous attack led by Commandant Potgieter and General Kemp on the 11th April that both surprised and was admired by the English troops who watched. Viewing the details of the Battle of Roodewal now you can understand Kemp and Potgieters' act as a brave yet suicidal final salvo from a pugnatous people. Roodewal means Red Valley and the valley surrounded by gentle slopes would be spattered with blood by the end of the day. It could have been worse, as we'll see, with Ian Hamilton doing a General Buller and hesitating when his foe was clearly defeated and the Mounted Infantry's woeful shooting. Roodewal is two hundred miles west of Pretoria and the very day that General de la Rey with Botha and De Wet steamed into the Transvaal Capital, his men were receiving a terrible hiding. The success was not so much the credit of Ian Hamilton, as to the officers and men of the thirteen columns who had finally caught up with a large Boer commando. It was perspiration, inspiration and sheer luck that caused the enemy to make a bad decision. Afterwards Hamilton and Kekewich called it a real soldiers' battle, fought out on the kind of terms that British Generals had despaired of every seeing again in their lifetime. As Thomas Packenham calls it, the final reassuring echo from the 19th Century. The British troops had been frustrated for 30 months as they marched up and down the veld, hunting the Boers who were like ghosts. The terrain didn't help. IT was half wilderness, these plains to the West of Johannesburg and Pretoria. A huge diamond shaped box enclosed by the lines between Lichtenburg, Klerksdorp, Vryburg and the Vaal River – two hundred miles of rolling sandy plains intersected by shallow meandering river valleys. They were mostly dry except in the rainy season. The news of this momentous battle reached Pretoria. It was the 12th April and the peace talks were about to start. As I explained last week, Kitchener had purposefully left Lord Milner out of the first round of negotiations because he wanted some kind of wriggle room – knowing of course that Milner was hoping to have complete control over South Africa in the future without interference from the troublesome Boers. President Burger of the Transvaal was gloomy as he sat down with Kitchener, remaining mostly silent after the Boers handed over their proposal to the British Army commanding officer. Kitchener was taken aback by the affrontery of the Boer demands. He expected them to address the elephant in the room – that is the continued independence of Boer Republics which was no longer viable.

There are a few more skirmishes and one more big battle after this period with its frustrations for the British and determination by the Boer die-hards or Bitter einders to continue their war against an empire at its zenith. We will hear about General Christiaan de Wet and Lord Kitchener who are closer physically than at virtually any other time in the war. Kitchener arrived in the Transvaal town of Klerksdorp on the 26th March, de Wet has evaded Kitchener's columns and blockhouses in the the Free State and is about to cross over the Vaal River to join General Koos de la Rey. More about that in a while. What these soldiers don't know is that there have been peace moves afoot internationally for some time. The Dutch Prime Minister, Abraham Kuyper, had sent a coded message to Lord Landsdowne, the British Foreign Secretary, on January 21st 1902. As was the case in those days, the language used was French - the language of diplomacy. And in his forthright way, The Hague was offering “en traite de paix” – a peace treaty between the British and Boers. The Dutch went one step further. They had already worked out a scenario. First the three members of the Boer Delegation which we heard about last year were still in the Netherlands. They would return to South Africa to confer with Boer leaders then return with an authorisation to conduct peace talks somewhere in the Netherlands. On the 29th January, Lord Landsdowne replied bluntly that the British government appreciated the humanitarian considerations that inspired the offer, but on principle declined the intervention of foreign powers in the South African war. Leyds, who was Paul Kruger's secretary in Holland, heard about Kuypers offer through the newspapers and was not amused. Why had the Dutch Prime Minister not bothered to confer with him or Kruger? What also angered the Boer emissaries in Europe was the tone adopted by the Netherlands missive. The letter which failed to call on the British to end an imperialist war nor did it mention the abuses being suffered by Boer women and children in the internment camps. The Dutch message implicitly urged the Boers to give up a hopeless cause. Worse, that response came at about the same time another arrived from America which was negative. President Roosevelt told the Boers that his predecessor, McKinley, had offered his services as a mediator and had been turned down flatly by the British. So Roosevelt said any attempt at intervention would be folly.

General Jan Smuts and his commando have seized the small town of Springbok in the far northern Cape. As we heard last week, the town fell after a few hours of fighting and the surrender of the three forts that dominated its defences. After the town was taken, our narrator Deneys Reitz had fallen into a deep sleep have had no rest for three full days and nights. Reitz slept for 24 hours – and when he awoke it was to a surprise. “I found my friend Nicolas Swart sitting on the bed beside me. He was almost recovered from his wounds, and had just arrived from the south.” An extraordinary man, this Nicolas Swart. He'd been shot through the hip while leaning over and the bullet had passed through his body ending exiting through his chest. Reitz believed he was probably not going to survive. And that was only a few weeks after Swart had been shot in the arm, shattering the ulna. Yet here he was, less than a month after appearing near death. Meanwhile, in Pretoria, Lord Kitchener was tearing at his characteristic moustache. Remember how he had collapsed upon hearing about Lord Methuen's defeat at the hands of General Koos de La Rey. How were the British to capture this large and well-fed marauder? He had escaped certain capture to turn on his pursuers three times in the last six months. First at Moedwil on 30 September 1901 when he had mauled part of Kekewitch column, then at Yzer Spruit on 24 February 1902 when he had devoured most of von Donops wagon convoy protected by a large force of 700 men. He'd seized 150 wagons of food and ammunition there. Then at Tweebosch, he had swallowed Lord Methuen whole. The British now regarded de la Rey as their biggest problem – far more deadly than both General Smuts and Christiaan de Wet. AS well as looting British bully beef and .303 ammunition, he had also looted six field guns, and machine guns. De la Rey's men were now at the peak of their military power and of course the British were sending half trained yeomen into battle.

In this episode we will hear how General Koos de la Rey captures Lord Methuen in an act that will push Lord Kitchener over a psychological precipice. Remember when we ended last week I explained how Lord Methuen was particularly despised by both de la Rey and General Christiaan de Wet because the British commander had personally overseen the destruction of both of their farms. But de la Rey displays the kind of chivalry in victory last seen almost a hundred years before this war. He will also allow himself to be swayed by angry men to execute British troops in cold blood. As for Methuen, he was someone with whom the Boers had an axe to grind. And with the capture you would expect that the Boers may have played hard ball – do some kind of swap at dawn. A General for a general as historian Martin Bossenbroek writes. This is not to be. General Koos de la Rey had been itching for something significant in the western Transvaal as he was pushed hither and thither by the British, and in turn, pushed them back and forth. It all started on the 25 February 1902 at Ysterspruit which is around 10 miles from Klerksdorp in the Western Transvaal. De La Rey caught the English napping, swooping on a convoy of 150 wagons, most of which were empty. It was what was protecting that wagons that the General was after. A machine gun, two cannons and a huge cache of rifles, ammunition, 200 horses, 400 oxen and 1500 mules. This came at precisely the right point for the Boers, and exactly the wrong time for the English troops who were going to be shot up with their own weapons shortly.
