For this episode Danny Hurst is joined by Martyn Ware, the multi-platinum producer, composer, 3D soundscape artist, Electronically Yours podcast host and founding member of The Human League and Heaven 17. As a producer, Martyn worked with artists as diverse as Tina Turner and Terrence Trent Darby, before co-founding with Vince Clarke the world-leading immersive 3D soundscape design and composition firm - Illustrious Company. Martyn shares how the unique soundscape of the steel producing town he was raised in influenced his music. KEY TAKEAWAYS The sound of the steel forges created a unique soundscape that had a profound effect on Martyn and other musicians from the area. Regardless of what type of music you want to experience you can find it being played somewhere in London. The decision to go down the electronic path arose in part from wanting a way to merge the many different forms of music they liked together. Being exposed to such an eclectic mix of people and experiences has helped Martyn to keep the music he produces fresh and different. It's always evolving. Martyn provides a fascinating insight into how a track is built up element by element. Martyn shares how the process he follows when writing a song has evolved, including the pros and cons of having access to new tools such as software. London is a place of extremes; a blend of small villages. BEST MOMENTS “I can hear that industrial sound in your music.” “As you entered the town, it sounded almost like a heartbeat.” “I like the homogenization of different social strata.” “It seems to me like they're trying to make London into a gated community for rich people .” “Do you like what it evokes in you? … If it doesn't make me feel anything, it goes in the bin.” “I can't ever imagine Tina Turner finding anything difficult to sing.” “There were those who thought electronic music was witchcraft.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://martynwareofficial.co.uk https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/electronically-yours-with-martyn-ware/ https://illustriouscompany.co.uk https://www.inplaceofwar.net HOST BIO Historian, performer, and mentor Danny Hurst has been engaging audiences for many years, whether as a lecturer, stand-up comic or intervention teacher with young offenders and excluded secondary students. Hey Strangers, #gta #heaven17 #gta6 Regardless of that increased figure, however, it seems Ware is in no hurry to accept the deal. He confirmed in that tweet that the offer was "still utterly unacceptable," also clarifying that his previous comments about GTA 5's profit were not wholly accurate - the $8.6 billion figure he cited relates to gross revenue, not total profit. Original story: Heaven 17 singer Martyn Ware claims that Rockstar Games only offered $7,500 to use the band's 1983 hit song Temptation in the upcoming GTA 6 "forever" - a proposition he refused because of GTA 5's outlandish success. "I was recently contacted by my publishers on behalf of Rockstar Games [about] the possibility of using [the song] Temptation on the new Grand Theft Auto 6," Ware recently tweeted. ======================================= My other podcast https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKpvBEElSl1dD72Y5gtepkw ************************************************** Something Strange https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRjVc2TZqN4&t=4s ************************************************** article links: https://www.gamesradar.com/games/grand-theft-auto/heaven-17-band-member-tells-rockstar-games-to-go-fk-yourself-over-a-dollar7500-gta-6-song-offer-because-gta-5-grossed-dollar86-billion/#:~:text=GTA%206-,GTA%206%20music%20deal%20blasted%20as%20%22utterly%20unacceptable%22%20by%20musician,GTA%205's%20%248.5%20billion%20revenue Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkfdXrEBzDw ====================================== Today is for push-ups and Programming and I am all done doing push-ups Discord https://discord.gg/MYvNgYYFxq TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@strangestcoder Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@codingwithstrangers Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/CodingWithStrangers Twitter https://twitter.com/strangestcoder merch Support CodingWithStrangers IRL by purchasing some merch. We ask a question about bucket gigs to all of our Live Music & Me guests when they join us. We also have a bucket list of guests we would like to get onto our podcast, and Martyn Ware ( Heaven 17, BEF) was on that list. As a musician, composer, arranger, record producer, and music programmer, Martyn has been in the music industry for over 40 years, and we were convinced he would be good company. He was. From his first gig anecdote that involved Marc Bolan and his satin pants, to visiting Neil Young's beach home and checking out his fridge, to giving Clive Davis from Arista the cold shoulder, the stories just kept coming. We also had some wonderful gig recollections too, both those he was at and those he wasn't ( including Live Aid). And to finish, live album recommendations that couldn't be any more eclectic if they tried, and are right up there with the best. Every guest we get takes us back through their life using gigs as reference points, and we are very grateful to Martyn for being so open, honest and entertaining. Enjoy, and stay safe

Aquí podréis escucharlos por partida doble, el mega hit “I Ran” y “The More You Live, The More You Love”. New Romantic barra New Wave. With Tears in My Eyes”. Aquí podréis escucharlos por partida doble, el mega hit “I Ran” y “The More You Live, The More You Love”. New Romantic barra New Wave. With Tears in My Eyes”. HiFi Sean (Sean Dickson) was the singer and main writer of The Soup Dragons, who charted in Europe in 1990 with 'I'm Free', an indie dance cover of the Rolling Stones hit. Later, in 1992, their track 'Divine Thing' was a top 40 hit on the Billboard chart in America. After their first album, 'This is Our Art', the band developed their sound in a more dance and less indie direction. Ten years after the band was founded in 1985, it disbanded. Sean Dickson came out as gay, an event that led to a breakdown, he formed The High Fidelity and. after DJ-ing already earlier in his life, became successful under the name HiFi Sean.Today, he continues to DJ, and make music. HiFi Sean's album Ft. includes tracks by Crystal Waters, Yoko Ono, Dave Ball, Billie Ray Martin (check out her podcast), and David McAlmont, with whom he has already recorded an album that will be released next year. His story is fascinating, and he's able to relate the events in his life with a healthy distance, as someone who is now a happily married gay man.If you like Hifi Sean why not check out these interviews:Billie Ray Martin, the Electronic Series which includes Wolfgang Flür & Martyn Ware, Man Parrish, Dave Dorrell.Connect with me on Instagram; steve.blameFor more on HiFi Sean check out his SoundCloud; https://soundcloud.com/hifi-sean And thanks to POP; The History Makers insanely wonderful talent booker: #ArchieCMichaelSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/pop-the-history-makers-with-steve-blame/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Hosted on Acast. He spent most of his adult life in Düsseldorf. Born in 1947 in post-war Germany, Wolfgang Flür made his name in the band Kraftwerk, a band that was formed in Düsseldorf. The last time I met him was in 1997 when he released his first post-Kraftwerk album with his band Yamo. His latest album, Magazine 1, is a masterpiece, a mixture of old and new, a commentary on today's world, and also that of post-war Düsseldorf, from Flür's perspective. In this interview, we talk about his own personal history, about his plea for pacifism in Say No! through the Wolfgang Borchert poem of the same name, and the track Birmingham, the home base of his main collaborator on this album, Peter Duggal. He also talks about how Trans Europe Express inspired him to make his track Night Drive, and his emotional final meeting with ex-Kraftwerk bandmate, Florian Schneider, in Düsseldorf where he continues to reside today.Electronic Cities - Podcast Interview with Sébastien Darchen is also online. As well as with Martyn Ware, Mark Reeder, and WestBam from the Electronic Cities of Europe.More info about Flür here: https://www.facebook.com/WolfgangFlur1Connect with me on Instagram; steve.blameSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/pop-the-history-makers-with-steve-blame/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Hosted on Acast. Even in this episode I feel that we only touched the surface on the great work that Martyn has done in his career, as a member of the Human League, Heaven 17, and B.E.F. In this episode we're thrilled to host Simon Reynolds, beamed in from his adopted Southern California. One of the most outstanding music writers of the past three and a half decades, Simon talks to us about his formative pop years; his own early fanzines Margin and Monitor; and the sea-change he (and others) brought to Melody Maker in the late '80s.Simon's fascinating and passionate Pitchfork piece 'Worth the Wait' (2014) is the springboard for a general discussion of the peak years of the MM, the NME and the general phenomenon of the UK's weekly music press. The conversation turns to what's been lost in the digital/internet era, but also what's been gained. One of Simon's fellow Melody Maker scribes was Bob Stanley, which affords us the excuse to rhapsodise about Bob's neo-retro meta-pop trio Saint Etienne. With their latest album I've Been Trying To Tell You due for imminent release, Simon and Barney reminisce happily about the impact of their glorious 1991 debut Foxbase Alpha. The week's new audio interview — Adam Blake's 1988 conversation with Heaven 17 — takes us even further back in pop time, to the Sheffield group's 40-year-old (and still highly impressive) Penthouse & Pavement album... and to a more general discussion of proto-synthpop and the first edition of the Human League. We hear two clips of (mainly) Martyn Ware speaking: one about the challenges of promoting themselves, the other about their scorn for the Top 40 radio fodder of the day (with particular venom reserved for Messrs. Stock, Aitken & Waterman). There's a brief but related digression on the previous week's audio, Steven Daly's 1990 interview with hitmaker-for-hire Diane Warren. From there it's a not-so-seamless segue to the sad losses of maverick Jamaican producer Lee "Scratch" Perry and Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, with attendant discussions of dub & roots reggae — and of the central importance of Mr. Watts to everything that was great about peak-period Stones.Mark talks us out with his thoughts on (and quotes from) new library pieces about Dylan at Forest Hills, Bowie at Winterland, Donna Summer and the Smiths, and Jasper concludes matters with remarks on St. Vincent and the wonderful cover of Marvin Gaye's I Want You.Many thanks to special guest Simon Reynolds; find his blog at blissout.blogspot.com.Pieces discussed: Worth the Wait, Saint Etienne, Heaven 17 audio, Diane Warren audio, Lee "Scratch" Perry (Vivien Goldman), Lee "Scratch" Perry (Simon Reynolds), Charlie Watts, Kim Fowley, David Bowie, The Faces, AC/DC, Donna Summer, Bob Dylan, Laura Nyro, The Smiths, St. Vincent, Marvin Gaye and Tessa Violet.

Episode 104: In Conversation with Tony Miracle of Venus Hum As was famously said in Monty Python's Flying Circus, "And now for something completely different..." Yes, Brian and Sarah should be talking about Depeche Mode's album Violator in this episode. But instead, they present to you their first-ever interview! Tony Miracle has worked in the music industry for over 25 years as a musician, songwriter, producer, and remixer. In the early 2000s he was one-third of the wonderful synthpop group Venus Hum, and he's also released electronic music under the moniker  Satellite City and his own name. And if that's not enough, he's also a graphic designer! With a resume like that, it should come as no surprise that Brian and Sarah found plenty of things to discuss with Tony. He shared many interesting tales from his past and graciously answered numerous questions from our hosts. And during the course of the conversation, he mentioned several names that should be quite familiar to listeners of this podcast: Thomas Dolby, Martyn Ware, and Vince Clarke! So you definitely won't want to miss those stories! You can check out Tony's website at http://www.tonymiracle.com/ To learn more about the terrific music of Venus Hum, visit http://www.venushum.com/ And to treat yourself to the fantastic music you heard in this episode, visit Tony and Venus Hum at http://venushum.bandcamp.com.  You can't go wrong with anything there, but I'm currently digging the "Long Blue Line" EP. Radio ditto presents Campfire, where we talk to inspiring folk from the worlds of tech, art and culture. In this episode, we have an honest chat with Martyn Ware, musician, composer, record producer, and music programmer. In his iconic career, he has written, performed and produced two Human League, two BEF and nine Heaven 17 albums. As a record producer and artist he has featured on recordings totalling over 50 million sales worldwide, producing amongst others Terence Trent D’Arby, Chaka Khan, Erasure, Marc Almond and Mavis Staples. Notably he helped to revitalise Tina Turner’s career in 1983 with “Let’s Stay Together”. Radio ditto host Mike Wilson talks with Martyn, as he shares his journey from humble beginnings in Sheffield, dropping out of school to help support his family, and how his downtime between working night shifts gave him the opportunity to experiment with electronic music - creating the track ‘Being Boiled’ which sold 5000 copies by word of mouth and gained airtime from John Peel, attracting the attention of Virgin Records and EMI. We ask how Martyn dealt with the transition of art to business and what happens to creativity when commercials come into play. Martyn also shares how he wrote, recorded and produced The Human League’s first two albums ‘Travelogue’ and ‘Reproduction’, along with tensions that arise within a creative enterprise, and how to bounce back with vigour. He also shares his success with Heaven 17 – we look forward to having Martyn back for a second episode of Campfire to talk more about the new wave and synth-pop duo.Martyn will be performing ‘Travelogue’ and ‘Reproduction’ albums in their entirety for the first time ever, at sold out shows at the Roundhouse and Sheffield City Hall in September. We're waking the ghosts of Tony's Empress Ballroom, home of the Northern Soul all nighter for the wonderful 'Church of Rare Souls' soundscape. As part of Art in Manufacturing season 2, an electronic music pioneer takes us on a journey, explaining why retaining creative integrity saw him transition from selling over 50 million records as a musician and producer with the likes of Tina Turner, Erasure and his own Human League and Heaven 17 to limitless artistry of his own design, why taking the easy cash can be fatal for our happiness. Creating sonic murals and exhibitions worldwide with Illustrious Company, he explains why staying true to yourself if critical to progression in the arts and how today, he works with purity. Join us as Martyn explains why he's been inspired by the work ethic in Blackburn at WEC, Silent Night, Cherrytree Bakery, Graham and Brown and Darwen Terrecotta and how that led him to the weekend, Northern Soul dancing and the haunting Tony's Empress Ballroom.
