Lung transplantation is often associated with surgical expertise, but expanding access depends just as much on the systems behind donor identification, evaluation and transport. Daniel Remer, transplant procurement manager at Temple University Hospital, explains why procurement serves as the operational engine of a transplant program and why strong systems are essential to helping more patients reach transplant. Remer also shares how donor evaluation has evolved over the past decade and how technologies such as ex vivo lung perfusion and portable organ preservation systems are allowing transplant teams to safely consider lungs that may once have been declined.

From the executive director of Zen Caregiving Project and creator of the Mindful Caregiving Education course comes a much-needed guide offering practical advice, emotional support, and a path to spiritual solace for the millions of undersupported caregivers in the USRosalynn Carter said, “There are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.” The past ten years have supported this observation, as the number of caregivers in the US has grown from 42 million to more than 53 million. With one in five American adults now in this role, many have found that they are emotionally and spiritually unprepared for the difficult and emotionally taxing task of caring for a seriously ill family member or patient. As a caregiver himself, and executive director of Zen Caregiving Project, Roy Remer was inspired to write Zen Caregiving to help support the emotional burden many caregivers experience and to augment this essential component of our healthcare system. After developing the Mindful Caregiving Education (MCE) curriculum and teaching MCE courses for many years, Remer was motivated to share what he had learned and taught about mindfulness-based approaches to care.Designed to be motivational, therapeutic, and practical, Zen Caregiving covers:the four components of the Zen approach to caregiving—mindfulness, compassion, loss literacy, and self-carehow to quiet the “thinking mind” to find solace and stay groundedmethods and approaches for expanding compassion and avoiding burnoutthe value of grief and processing losspractical advice for preparing medical directives and end-of-life arrangementshow to create intimacy with oneself to prioritize self-care one breath at a timeZen Caregiving is an essential resource for those in need of spiritual guidance and emotional support as they navigate the often turbulent and uncharted waters of caring for a loved one.Roy Remer is the Executive Director of Zen Caregiving Project (formerly known as Zen Hospice Project). He has been an end-of-life caregiver and educator since 1997 when he trained with Zen Hospice Project (ZHP) to become a volunteer. He served at the bedside for six years at the Guest House facility before serving for seven years on San Francisco's Laguna Honda Hospital's Palliative Care Ward. In 2008, Roy completed a yearlong end-of-life caregiver training at the Metta Institute in Sausalito, CA. A dedicated practitioner in Soto Zen tradition, Roy is a student at the San Francisco Zen Center. He is certified by the Stanford University Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE), and the Compassion Institute as an instructor of Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT©). They discuss Dr Liu's recent article, “Identifying Diagnostic Gaps and Mitigation Strategies for Older Adult Emergency General Surgery Patients: A Scoping Review,” in which the authors identified the current diagnostic issues, clinical tools, and clinician feedback strategies in the older adult emergency general surgery (EGS) setting. This week, we're discussing how the unprecedented terror attacks in Israel have motivated Jewish people in America to seek out firearms. Our guest is a longtime Jewish gun-rights advocate who lives in Texas. Yehuda Remer, who goes by The Pew Pew Jew, joins the show to detail the incredible increase in demand for guns and training he's seen from people in his community. He said the influx has been unlike anything he's experienced. Remer said the number of people he's had reaching out to him and, importantly, following through on their desire to obtain guns is leaps and bounds beyond any previous high-profile anti-Semitic attack. He said he believes the fallout from the Hamas killings could be creating a sea change in how American Jews feel about being armed. Plus, Contributing Writer Jake Fogleman and I discuss the federal ruling striking down California's AR-15 ban. Special Guest: Yehuda Remer.

Today on the A Pinch of Magick podcast we're journeying through the mystical realms of Priestessing with Molly Remer. Molly has not only been an integral guide in my personal journey but is also a beacon for anyone wanting to weave a bit more magick into the everyday. On this spirited ride, we delve into the essence of being a Priestess – not just as an archetype but what it means to be a vocational Priestess. We hear about Molly's bold decision to step into the role of Priestess, leaving behind the safety of the familiar. We traverse through the sacred body, honouring the transitions of life, and take a peek into the day-to-day of a 'Practical Priestess.' Learn how to find the magick in everyday life and weave it into your daily practices. Molly unveils the secret doorways into magick, fondly known as devotional 'mud rooms', and the power of not stashing your magick away for a perfect time or a special occasion. We tackle the notion that making time for your spirit is an indulgence – quite the contrary, it's a life-sustaining and world-renewing act. Pilgrimages don't always require a trek across continents; you can start one in your own backyard. And guess what? Connecting with your spirituality isn't a once-in-a-lifetime event; it's a daily practice, a soul-reviving ritual. You'll hear about the importance of honouring promises to yourself, creating life-changing transformations, and reconnecting with your soul without feeling the need to run away from family. Hear how Molly reconnected to her magick, even when circumstances stripped away her 'normal' refuelling practices. She even introduces us to the creation of '365 days of Goddess,' a practice that extended from the planned 30-days to beyond 850 days! We journey into the inception of her popular story goddesses and learn why fuelling ourselves first is paramount. We talk about finding joy as resistance in a culture of despair and living our magick using what we already have at our disposal. So, are you ready to don your cloak of curiosity and wander into this world of practical magick? Buckle up, magick-seekers; you're in for a memorable ride. We're kicking off our month of spooky episodes with none other than our own north-woods monster - the Great North American Ape, Sasquatch.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigfoot   The most famous Bigfoot case and film - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patterson–Gimlin_film   There are lots of pretty crazy theories about Bigfoot - https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/48870/11-crazy-bigfoot-conspiracy-theories   When Theodore Roosevelt Might Have Written About Bigfoot - https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/602406/theodore-roosevelt-bigfoot-story   Davy Crockett might have also seen Bigfoot - https://texashillcountry.com/davy-crocketts-encounter-bigfoot/   The oldest Bigfoot photograph? - https://www.ancient-origins.net/unexplained-phenomena/bigfoot-cryptozoology-conspiracy-0010179   The FBI Investigated Bigfoot for four decades - https://www.history.com/news/bigfoot-fbi-file-investigation-discovery   Celebrities who believe in, or have seen Bigfoot - https://www.tvovermind.com/celebrities-believe-seen-bigfoot/   The Hairy Man of the Vergas Trails - https://minnesotasnewcountry.com/central-minnesota-urban-legends-the-hairy-man-of-vergas-trail/   Remer, MN, Home of Bigfoot - https://www.twincities.com/2009/12/09/bigfoot-in-the-northwoods-camera-picks-up-strange-image-near-remer/   https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/minnesota/strangest-town-midwest-mn/   Willow River, MN and surrounding area is a hotspot for Bigfoot too -http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_county_reports.asp?state=MN&county=Pine   http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_county_reports.asp?state=mn&county=Carlton   https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/bigfoot-phantom-pigs-and-ufos-minnesota-oh-my   A super interesting bigfoot story from our neck of the woods - https://showmebigfoot.com/mn_teugene/   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li6F1SG1o9c&t=22s   Today's Good News Story:   https://www.freethink.com/health/great-apes-get-vaccinated-against-covid-19   Use our link to get $10 worth of FREE Bitcoin, no strings attached! https://swanbitcoin.com/therandomcouplepodcast   Feel free to reach out if you have a tip, suggestion, joke, or whatever, or if you'd like to advertise on the show: therandomcouplepodcast@gmail.com   Visit our Etsy shop: http://therandomcouple.etsy.com   Find us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and others.   Please remember to Like/Subscribe/Follow, and leave us a rating and review!
