This story is a fan favorite that was previously published as Episode 62.In late December of 2003, a 32-year-old man named Russel drove along scenic back roads on an island off the coast of Washington State, until he arrived at his destination, a house tucked way back in the woods. After driving down the property's long driveway, Russel pulled into a parking spot and came to a stop. After turning off his car's engine, Russel went to unbuckle himself, when he stopped. Because right in front of him, in the tree line, he saw a figure moving in the shadows. As Russel leaned forward and strained his eyes to see who it was, the figure suddenly emerged and began walking quickly toward Russel's car. At first Russel thought he knew who this person was, but as they got closer, he knew that he didn't. But before Russel could do anything about the situation he was in, the stranger from the forest had arrived right outside of Russel's car door and had begun staring down at Russel through the glass. As they did this, Russel turned to look at them… and what he saw was so shocking he just froze in terror. For 100s more stories like this one, check out my YouTube channel just called "MrBallen" -- https://www.youtube.com/c/MrBallenIf you want to reach out to me, contact me on Instagram, Twitter or any other major social media platform, my username on all of them is @MrBallenSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Barrie Craig Confidential InvestigatorWilliam Gargan, who also played the better known television (and radio) detective Martin Kane, was the voice of New York eye Barrie Craig while Ralph Bell portrayed his associate, Lt. Travis Rogers. Craig's office was on Madison Avenue and his adventures were fairly standard PI fare. He worked alone, solved cases efficiently, and feared no man. As the promos went, he was "your man when you can't go to the cops. Congratulations on surviving your summer vacation! Not all who travel can say the same. Tune in to hear about several people who met their end while away from home. Pam: When the Robison family went to their lake house in northern Michigan for their summer vacation they expected to have a fun, relaxing time enjoying their company. But when the unthinkable happens, we are left with a 60 year "unsolved" mass murder. Who do you think killed this family? Was it the obvious choice or do you think there is something that we are missing? Ronda: Everyone loves to post Instagram pics of their vacations abroad, but what you don't see is how dangerous it can be to travel. This week I dive into several mysterious deaths that happen on Koh Tao, an Island off the coast of Thailand. What could possibly be going on behind the scenes that would cause this 8 square mile island to be dubbed “Murder Island?” Sources: Pam: Wikipedia - Robison Family Murders MLive - 50 Years After Michigan Family's Massacre in Cottage, Investigators Put Rumors to RestNorthern Express - The Good Hart Murders: Case ClosedHere's The Fucking Twist - True Crime Tuesdays: The Robison Family Murders9 and 10 News - Unsolved: The Robison Family MurdersHistory By Day - The Unsolved & Unexplainable Case of the Robison FamilyRonda: What is happening on Death Island? Who said FB&W was a relationship only podcast!? The girls branch out a bit this episode and get into some scam stories. Before they get into that, Rach and Jess share some updates and highlights from the past week. Rach is back in the yoga game, they talk entirely too long about the new Batman movie, and they get into some recent icks from their partners. Everyone loves and good scamboozle story, and the girls recap some of the popular ones right now. We hope you enjoy the retellings of Elizabeth Holmes/Theronos, Anna Delvey, and even Fyre Fest (Rach was really behind the times so Jess has to catch her up). Jess comes prepared and Rach comes with a lot of heart and a lack of organization (per usual). The girls have a lot of fun with this one so we hope you like it! And let us know your favorite #scamboozle stories! You already know how much we absolutely adore you all. This week on Drunk Women Solving Crime, we have someone who is not only an asset to THIS force but has been an asset to the ACTUAL force, serving 30 years in the British Police, becoming the first non-white woman to be promoted through the ranks to chief superintendent.Parm Sandhu has also recently starred in a Channel 4 reality show Murder Island, where she advises real-life amateur detectives to solve a re-enacted murder, so stands to reason that we HAD to have her as an honourary 4th member of DWSC!As you would expect Parm is not faint-hearted in the face of crime and so bravely tells the tale of when she was personally caught up in a local crime wave, before putting her 30 years of experience into a cold case involving gums ... we didn't say it would be easy Parm. AND this week's listener crime will have you thinking twice about dog ownership. In September 2015 the brutalised bodies of British backpackers Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found on the tropical island paradise of Koh Tao. The island off the coast of mainland Thailand, has long been a hotspot for partygoers lured in by the cheap alcohol, stunning beaches, and of course its infamous full moon parties. With the whole world watching, two suspects for the brutal murders were quickly found, but with 20% of the country's income at stake and a background of political unrest, the investigation was far from faultless. First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on February 28th 2021 Regular contributor WARREN CUMMINGS returns to VISION ON SOUND to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of POLICE DRAMAS on television, in a wide-ranging discussion that takes us from G F Newman's LAW AND ORDER through DIXON OF DOCK GREEN, BETWEEN THE LINES, LINE OF DUTY, DIAL 999, NO HIDING PLACE, Z CARS, "MURDER ISLAND" (ahem!), through INSPECTOR MORSE to, um, DUCK PATROL. But we also touch on corruption, the Thames Valley documentary, MITCHELL AND WEBB and 'professional advisers", the thirty minute drama, DOCTOR WHO, and the strangely extreme and heightened worlds in shows like SPECIAL BRANCH, THE SWEENEY, and TARGET, and even get quite philosophical from time to time about the area of law and order generally. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.
On the surface the island of Koh Tao was heaven on earth for travelers looking to escape the world, to party all night, and sleep all day on white sand beaches. A lawless paradise, such a far cry from the policed western world. But the underbelly of that paradise was a far cry from the excited stories the back packers had to tell. On the island there existed corruption, racism, disorder, and, starting in 2014, a string of very complicated murders that just did not seem to make sense. Their exposures would muddy the reputation of the island. In the case we have for you today there exists the death of two backpackers, other complicated deaths on the island, a police force under fire, a local mafia exposed, and families trying to seek justice in a place that was sought after for turning their cheek to it. The north wind's been spraying Mainland Runoff in our faces for days, but that's nothing new, nothing worth complaining about. Here on Murder Island, we have a little saying: “If ever you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes and you'll be murdered.” Or as the Weatherman likes to say: “Radar's telling us to brace for more hot gusty winds, Mainland Runoff, and murder.” The forecast never changes.
