As decision-makers in the highway and travel technology sectors face mounting pressure to innovate sustainable transport options, this week's episode of Highways Voices dives into the rise of electric scooters, exploring whether they truly align with safety, environmental, and efficiency goals—or if they're adding to the chaos.Mail on Sunday columnist Peter Hitchens really doesn't think so, and today he discusses the broader implications of transport policies designed around them, questioning their affect on the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, and how safe they are when they're sharing roadspace with traffic. He also questions the hidden environmental costs, and their effect on enforcement.Subscribe to Highways Voices free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts or Pocket Casts and never miss an episode! While this interview was recorded during Covid times in 2021, the issue remains close to his heart, as he wrote only last week. In it he quoted statistics showing 29 people died and nearly 5,000 were injured – 1,402 seriously – between 2020 and 2023, including Linda Davis, a 71-year-old grandmother, who was killed in 2022 when a 14-year-old, glued to his phone, mowed her down while riding an escooter."That's to say nothing of the risks posed by the flammable lithium batteries powering them," he wrote, " – "which are thought to have sparked more than 36 e-scooter fires in 2023 alone".Don't miss this critical discussion —play the episode to uncover an alternative view about e-scooters and what it means for the future of transport.

When kindness is shown to us—whether it's as small as a smile from a stranger, or as big as someone meeting a need at a desperate time in our lives—we see and feel goodness that is often unexplainable. If we look for them, we can find these divine kindnesses each day, those big and little nods from God that bring us hope and comfort, even in the darkest of hours. These moments are powerful reminders of the sustaining force of divine kindness and the enduring faith it nurtures.  Founders of the ministry Bottle of Tears Chris and Lindsey Wheeler share the challenges they faced after adopting their daughter, Eliana, from Guatemala, all while navigating Lindsey's development of a rare autoimmune disease, and how the kindness of God kept them from despairing.  Later in the episode, we'll hear from Bryan Crum, a hospice chaplain, who shares what he has learned from spending time with people in their final days and how God shows up in their last moments to demonstrate His sustaining kindness.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: Linda Davis and Lang Scott Upcoming interview: Erin Loechner Jesus Listens Notetaking Edition   Chris Wheeler Lindsey Wheeler Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Lyme Disease Jennie Allen Psalm 56 NIV Bottle of Tears www.bottleoftears.com Kit and The Missing Notebook   Bryan Crum www.bryancrum.com Neighbor, Love Yourself   Interview Quotes: “I remember at the beginning of my diagnosis, just really fighting with the Lord, honestly, and going, God, why? Why is this my story? Why have you chosen us to be Eliana's parents? We are not capable of this. Why did you choose me to have a disease at the same time? It just felt so unfair.” - Lindsey Wheeler  “I laid on my bed crying and asking God, ‘How do I do this? How do I run this race when I am homebound?'” - Lindsey Wheeler “God was so cool that I got a front row seat to watch people comfort their friends and family, and I was able to read their letters of encouragement and hope to their friends and family, and it gave me encouragement. It helped me to push forward.” - Lindsey Wheeler “My body continues to fail me, but God hasn't. He has not failed me. And I feel just more confident and more alive than I have in a long time, knowing that He is using me still in the midst of my pain.” - Lindsey Wheeler  “My prayer in those moments is, ‘Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.' Because sometimes that's all you got.” - Chris Wheeler  “It's humbling just to be invited into people's homes, into their lives at a time when each moment, each minute is just more valuable because you know they're the final ones.” - Bryan Crum “We let unsaid words hold us in place. And it's almost like this ancient, heavy anchor that ties us down. I've learned that we often need a little nudge to remind us we can untie our boats from that anchor and float away at any time.” - Bryan Crum “We don't have to wait to see what our lives will be like at the end of our stories. Imagine now what you think that final scene of your life is going to be like. And if you don't like what it looks like, make course corrections today. Make the changes now. There's a welcoming home waiting for us.” - Bryan Crum   ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Billy Stritch, Renowned Music Director, Vocalist & Pianist About Harvey's guests: Today's guest, Billy Stritch, is a renowned composer, arranger, vocalist, and pianist extraordinaire who is both a highly sought-after music director and a star performer in his own right.   For 25 years he worked closely with Liza Minnelli as her music director, collaborator and accompanist.  He's also been the music director and arranger for many other great stars including Tony Bennett, Marilyn Maye, Linda Lavin, Linda Eder, Ann Hampton Callaway, and Christine Ebersole.    In addition, he's a wonderful songwriter.  He co-wrote the multi-platinum, Grammy-winning, number 1 hit song “Does He Love You” recorded in 1993 by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis.    As a solo entertainer, he performs sell-out shows in concert halls and nightclubs across the country, including his highly acclaimed tribute shows to Mel Tormé and Cy Coleman, as well as his spectacular show with Jim Caruso called “The Sinatra Century”.  During the pandemic, he was one of the first artists to start performing online, creating his own weekly live-stream show called “Billy's Place”, celebrating the Great American Songbook with songs and stories from his amazing career.    He's recorded numerous albums, and some of my favourites are “Jazz Live”, “Waters of March”, “Billy Stritch Sings Mel Tormé”, “The Sunday Set: Recorded Live at Birdland”, “Christmas at Birdland”, and “Billy's Place”, which is a collection of his favorite songs from those online shows I just mentioned.  He's also been prominently featured on at least a dozen other albums by music artists like Christine Ebersole, Jim Caruso, Benny Carter, Klea Blackhurst, and many more.   And if all that weren't enough, our guest is also a Broadway star.   He played the role of “Oscar” in the Tony Award winning 2001 Broadway revival of “42nd Street”.  And when he's not on tour, he can often be found dazzling New York audiences on Sunday nights at Bemelman's Bar at the Carlyle, and of course, every Monday night at Birdland, for Jim Caruso's Cast Party. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Billy Stritch, go to:http://billystritch.com/https://www.facebook.com/billystritchpro/https://www.instagram.com/billystritch/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPKEPvjXbWy_RQALL8KiLPghttps://open.spotify.com/artist/5BFCEjtWiORUGo96eKDbXi?autoplay=true #BillyStritch   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Date: March 1, 2023Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioEpisode title and number:  S4: E7: Bailey Rae - Oklahoma Girl & Gypsy CowboysArtist Bio -Bailey Rae is a rising singer/songwriter with roots planted deep in country music. Growing up in a musical family, she started her collection of classic country vinyl at an early age and was gifted many country albums belonging to her great-great-grandmother. Listening to those legendary voices like Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris and Don Williams, Bailey Rae quickly discovered a love for classic country music which continues to be a big influence in her voice and musical style today.Since the age of thirteen, Bailey Rae has been performing regularly on stages from Texas, and Oklahoma to Arkansas and from Branson, Nashville, and Pigeon Forge. In 2020, she had the opportunity to share her pure country voice with millions of fans on the biggest stage of her life – NBC's The Voice, where she had the honor of becoming the first true country artist to ever be on Team Legend. Bailey Rae's Blind Audition was a very memorable moment with both Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson making promises to steal her if she became available on the show. She quickly caught the attention of country music fans from across the nation and finished The Voice Season 19 as a Top 9 Semi-Finalist out of 40,000 auditions for the season. One could say that Bailey Rae has always been drawn to the big stage, as she discovered her love for performing at just five years old when joining a competitive clogging team. Over the years, she won multiple National Championships and competed at a World Dance Championship competition. Bailey Rae had been singing in church for years and after hearing of a vocal coach in Denison, Texas, she began performing with the Shawnda Rains Entertainment Group. While on her first performance trip in Branson, Missouri, Bailey Rae realized her desire to sing on stage and immediately hung up her clogging shoes to start the pursuit of a career in country music. This small-town Oklahoma girl calls Texas her second home and was named the 2020-2021 Ambassador for the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. Bailey Rae has opened for country music greats such as TG Sheppard, Whispering Bill Anderson, Jeannie C Riley, Linda Davis, The Scott Family, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Doug Stone and Texas Country Artists, Flatland Calvary, and Jake Worthington. In October 2021, Bailey Rae was invited by her Voice Coach, John Legend, to share the stage with him at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK to sing a duet. It was an amazing opportunity and something she will never forget. Bailey Rae has also headlined many shows, festivals and events, and tours regularly with her band.ponsor Link:WWW.ECOTRIC.COMBackstage Pass Radio Social Media Handles:Facebook - @backstagepassradiopodcast @randyhulseymusicInstagram - @Backstagepassradio @randyhulseymusicTwitter - @backstagepassPC @rhulseymusicWebsite - backstagepassradio.com and randyhulsey.comArtist Media Handles:Website - www.baileyraemusic.comInstagram  - https://www.instagram.com/baileyraemusic/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/baileyraemusicTwitter - https://twitter.com/baileyraemusicCall to actionWe ask our listeners to like, share, and subscribe to the show and the artist's social media pages. Matthew and Julian sit down for the first of a two-part examination of the 1988 bestseller at the heart of the recovered memory movement—which played a central role in validating Satanic Panic testimonials. The basic premise of The Courage to Heal, by creative writing instructors Ellen Bass and Linda Davis,  is that memories of childhood abuse, especially child sexual abuse, can be recovered and articulated by survivors who are given the proper space, tools, and validation. The book explores how this be facilitated within the context of journaling, writing poetry, and writing memoir, and what the therapeutic benefits of full confessional articulation can be.While countless people affirm that this book was a lifeline during a time in which recovery resources for child abuse survivors were rare,  there are substantial problems with the book's method, claims about memory, dodgy sources, and endorsement of outright Satanic Panic propaganda. A proud native of Texas, Billie Jo is a singer, songwriter, and recording artist blending traditional country vocals with honest songs. Billie Jo is well on her way of establishing herself as one of Texas country's upcoming artists to watch. She has won numerous singing competitions and continues to make a name for herself. During a season when “love” is celebrated with flowers, candy, and romantic cards, it's easy to forget that love has many facets. The kind of love that sticks around when it feels like there's not much to celebrate. The kind of love that forgives in the face of disappointments and dishonesty. Perhaps the biggest thing that contributes to having a happy and fulfilling life is faith. Our guests this week can attest to that—even though they're talented, attained fame, and are adored by millions, they each say that the only thing that has gotten them through life, brought them where they are today, and continues to sustain them is their faith. Are you having trouble living in faith? Has your past been difficult and you're struggling to see where God has shown up for you? Even though it may seem impossible, you can still live in faith. You can take that first step by just talking to God. Tell Him your hopes, your fears, your disappointments. And as you develop that relationship with God, you won't be afraid to dream bigger dreams, to imagine that your life can be better, to believe that any sadness that envelops you now can be replaced by peace one day. When we believe things can be better and that God will fulfill His purpose in our lives, we begin to develop a faith that is unstoppable and will carry us through every challenging season. Here to share more about what it means to have an unstoppable faith is country singer Granger Smith and his wife Amber and singer, songwriter and author Chiquis Rivera.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Listens Sarah Young Upcoming interview: Linda Davis   Granger Smith   Chiquis Rivera Jenni Rivera Unstoppable   Interview Quotes: “When you hold little humans, you know, and you realize that they depend on you for so much and you look into their eyes and you see the reflection of you.” - Granger Smith “God, help me make the right decision in this moment right now for my family. I'll follow your lead because I'm not in control here." - Granger Smith “The thing that we did was we ran to Him. Yeah, we just ran to Him and he's just carried us for these last two years.” - Amber Smith  “I would tell people at school, all the kids at school, like, ‘My mom is going to be famous one day,' and they would laugh at me and make fun of me. And I had so much faith in her from the very beginning.” - Chiquis Rivera  “When life drops you on your knees, you're already there, you might as well pray. And that's what I've always done throughout those moments, I always keep my eyesight focused at the light at the end of the tunnel.” - Chiquis Rivera “I'm very well aware that everything I have is because of God, because of His grace. And I keep that in mind. It helps humble me and keep me grounded every single day…What makes me unstoppable? It's really no secret. It is my faith.” - Chiquis Rivera “What makes me unstoppable? It's really no secret. It is my faith.” - Chiquis Rivera “When I don't try to fit God into my schedule, everything else goes around Him, around my faith, it's something that I think has helped me. I have this most of the time, unshakable faith where it's like, Okay, no matter what, I know, everything is going to be okay.” - Chiquis Rivera ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PrbuwH Video Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PsmEkJ What's Good? This week we are taking another look at “Hell in the Heartland” by Jax Miller. My guest today is Linda Davis, executive director and co-founder of Families Against Narcotics. If you were with us last week, you'll remember that “Hell in the Heartland” tells the almost unbelievable story of murders, missing girls, marijuana, meth, and one amazing mom. If you haven't listened to last week's episode you will definitely want to catch it ASAP! As the time that Ashely Freeman and Lauria Bible had been missing went from days, to weeks, to months, and then to years, Lauria's mother Lorene kept searching for answers. She was always pushing herself to do the next thing that needed done in order to find her child. Eventually, her investigation led her to believe that Danny Freeman's connections to drug dealers set everything in motion. One of the things that is most important to the folks at Families Against Narcotics is their belief that all people are worthy and deserving of being treated respectfully. I believe that Jesus teaches this in Mark chapter 12 verse 31 when he says, “...You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” Think about how you felt when you were at the lowest point in your life. I know I would be more accepting of help if I felt that I was still seen as having value. If I was treated as someone would want me to treat them if our positions were reversed. Is this where you need to get out of the audience and into the action? When we all work together, we can be unstoppable! Happy Birthday Billy!! Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scenes. He began his career in Houston, Texas, where he formed the vocal trio Montgomery, Plant and Stritch. The trio performed all over New York and Europe from 1983 until they disbanded in 1990. A chance meeting with Liza Minnelli in March of 1991 resulted in her asking him to create vocal arrangements for the record-breaking extravaganza Liza Stepping Out at Radio City Music Hall. In addition to his 25-year collaboration with Liza, Billy recently toured with the legendary Tony Bennett as Tony’s pianist and musical director. A solo entertainer in his own right, he has performed his own shows (including tributes to Mel Tormé and Cy Coleman) in concert halls and nightclubs across the country. Billy also serves as music director for such leading vocalists as Linda Lavin, Christine Ebersole, Paulo Szot and Marilyn Maye. He is the co-writer of the Grammy-winning song “Does He Love You” recorded by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis. When he’s not on the road, he is the pianist for Jim Caruso’s Cast Party open mic night every Monday at New York’s legendary Birdland Jazz Club and he and Jim hold forth on Sunday nights at Bemelmans’ Bar in Manhattan’s fabled Carlyle Hotel. Currently during Covid-19, he is hosting his own weekly Facebook live-stream show “Billy’s Place”, celebrating the Great American Songbook with songs and stories from his varied career. The show airs every Thursday evening at 8:00 pm EDT on his BILLY STRITCH Facebook page. He has recorded five solo CDs and his latest CD release “Billy’s Place” (Club44 Records) is a collection of his favorite songs from these online concerts. @billystritch www.billystritch.com Watch Billy's Place on Facebook Buy Billy's New Album Billy's Place --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/confessionsofanactress/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/confessionsofanactress/support

Joey Kent grew up backstage at The Louisiana Hayride—just not the version of the Hayride that you may be thinking of. His father, Shreveport media executive David Kent, launched a second installment of the Hayride after the original iteration of KWKH's influential barn dance program fell silent in 1960. David Kent's Louisiana Hayride, produced in partnership with emcee and radio personality Frank Page, moved the show from Shreveport Municipal Auditorium to a more modern venue on Benton Road and added an onsite restaurant and bar. Joey Kent often corrects those who insist that the Hayride ended in 1960. “There were so many talented musicians on my father's show,” Kent said. “Most Hayride history books tend to end in 1960, but that doesn't really do service to performers like (Nat Stuckey, Shoji Tabuchi, Micki Fuhrman, Linda Davis, and others).” Kent authored Cradle of the Stars: KWKH & The Louisiana Hayride and co-authored Elvis Presley: The Hayride Years, 1954-56. He is also responsible for donating a large archive of recordings and materials related to The Louisiana Hayride to the Library of Congress. But perhaps his most unbelievable contribution to the story of The Louisiana Hayride came about completely by accident. While clearing out an office at KWKH, Kent says that he happened upon a reel-to-reel recording wedged between a desk and a wall. That reel-to-reel turned out to contain a previously unknown recording of Elvis Presley's Hayride debut on Oct. 16, 1954. Kent tells the jaw-dropping story of that discovery, along with many others, during his insightful conversation with All Y'all hosts Sara Hebert and Chris Jay. Did you know over 70 percent of wealth doesn’t last beyond three generations? That means if you’re currently working hard to build wealth and create a financial legacy that will outlive you, you might want to think about sitting down with your family and making sure they know how to keep your investments growing. Linda Davis Taylor is the CEO and Chairman of Clifford Swan Investment Counselors in Pasadena, California, and a champion for women’s economic independence and strength. Clifford Swan is the nation’s oldest investment advisory firm and has been in existence for over 100 years. Linda is not only the leader of this firm. She’s also a frequent speaker on wealth transition, family governance, and philanthropy. Linda wrote the book called ‘The Business of Family’ to help educate families on multi-generational financial sustainability. She believes that “Being rich means having a sense of purpose, knowing where you came from, defining your value systems, and questioning how you’re living.” And, if you want your wealth to last generations, it’s incredibly important to run your family like a business, where everyone is educated about how to handle money, how to save it, and how to grow it. I’m excited to hear more about this philosophy today and learn from someone who has done so much to advance women in the financial industry. Imposter syndrome is real, and it means that you are human and have achieved success. Be thankful that you have these feelings; they mean you are accomplishing something worthwhile. But that doesn’t make it easy to deal with. For this penultimate podcast episode, Ryan returns to one of the post prevalent issues plaguing directors. Name your imposter syndrome, call it out for what it is, and then keep on doing amazing things. [Subscribe on iTunes] [Subscribe on Android] Show Notes:   Feeling like an imposter?   Yes. Duh. Of course. Anyone who has achieved any modicum of success (unless they're up their own butt) deals with imposter syndrome.   What is it? It’s the fear that you'll be found out; the idea that you're actually a fraud and don't deserve what you've worked so hard to achieve. YOU worked hard and have realized some success. And because YOU'RE responsible for your own success, you feel like YOU put yourself there. Which you did. Which is why it's easier to tell yourself you're a fraud.   The reality You deserve your success, for the same reason you feel like an imposter: YOU earned it yourself. Remember, everyone else is working toward their own successes, so why should you feel like you shouldn't.   Being successful puts you in the spotlight Now you not only deal with imposter syndrome, you deal with people who hate you for your success. So, now you speak negativity to yourself for the same reasons: Maybe because you took something other than the traditional path, and they watched you take a shortcut and are envious. Maybe you're just plain talented and don't have to work as hard. Maybe you worked harder than others were willing to work. Maybe your focus was on serving others, and those others are giving you all the attention. Maybe you operate in an environment where your peers believe in a zero-sum game, even though you don't. Maybe you're anti-establishment and just popped out of nowhere, not taking the traditional path to success. Maybe those with a higher degree of education (or debt) are struggling, but you chose a different route. Maybe… You name it.   The problem with listening to your imposter syndrome You stop doing what helped you achieve success in the first place. You, by proxy, allow your critics to control you and your level of anxiety. It's a losing scenario, because if you listen to your imposter syndrome and kill your success your self-talk changes and attacks you for being a failure.   So what do you do? Understand that it's part of being successful. Say “Of course. Just when I'm trying to enjoy life… Here you are!” Name it. (Mine is Phil) Put it in a bubble. Push it out. Affirm, out loud, that you deserve success. Name, out loud, all the people that have benefited along the way. Keep a “Smile File” of notes, emails, cards, articles, and things having to do with your journey that make you smile. Have someone you can talk to about your imposter syndrome who will be your cheerleader. Could be a best friend or spouse, or it could be someone you meet in Choir Nation. Bio: Having spent most of his middle and high school career in detention, Ryan Guth loves to speak to audiences about ways for choral directors to engage the seemingly un-engageable. Ryan learned fearlessness and indomitable spirit from a young age through many years studying the martial arts while also pursuing music – especially the time in middle school when he tried to break a board with his head in front his entire ninth grade class and failed spectacularly. He believes the best choir directors face challenges head-on (no pun intended), are solutions-oriented, and take full responsibility for all aspects of their program.  Ryan’s most popular and surprisingly positive article “Your Choir Sucks Because You Suck” was shared over 2,200 times in 48 hours, and has since become his manifesto, mantra, and the platform that his work was built upon. Through his first podcast, Find Your Forte, Ryan connected thousands of weekly listeners with some of the most brilliant minds in choral music such as Helmuth Rilling, Patrick Quigley, Joseph Flummerfelt, James Bass, and 80-plus others. He recognizes the fact we become the best when we learn from the best. In 2017, Ryan created the Choir Ninja podcast to share solutions with middle and high school choral directors so they learn to work smarter – not harder. That’s why he focuses on sharing what works in choral programs across Choir Nation in a way that makes running a great choral program approachable, fun, and rewarding. When not dressing up in his ninja jammies or buffing his diploma from Westminster Choir College, Ryan is a financial advisor in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Before that, he spent a decade building a large middle school program and for-profit choral ensemble  and musical theater business in central New Jersey. Ryan’s choirs have been heard alongside GRAMMY winners Kenny Rogers, Linda Davis, and The Chieftains and on the stages of Boston’s Symphony Hall, Philadelpha’s Mann Music Center, and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, to name a few. In July 2017, he made his Wolf Trap debut as Chorusmaster with the National Symphony Orchestra as they performed the music of the wildly popular Zelda video game. Ryan was the keynote speaker at the 2017 Iowa Choral Directors Association Annual Summer Symposium, has been a presenter at the Chorus America Annual Conference, and a guest speaker at various other conferences and workshops throughout the year in both the choral and podcasting niches.Ryan enjoys getting lost outdoors with his beautiful fiancé, Amanda, and pitbull-lab Sasha. The Claim2Fame Podcast is a resource for artists Every episode features successful artists and industry experts sharing compelling stories and valuable knowledge about the music industry hosted by CMA, ACM & CCMA Award Winning Broadcaster Cliff Dumas. Cliff talks to Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood Scott from Lady Antebellum. Lady Antebellum Lady Antebellum blend contemporary country with soulful '60s R&B into an infectious brew that relies on the trio's rich harmonies and impeccable instrumental skills. The trio was formed in 2006 by Charles Kelley (brother of singer/songwriter Josh Kelley), Hillary Scott (daughter of Grammy-winning country artist Linda Davis), and Dave Haywood, and soon graduated from dive bars to the Grand Ole Opry. Their 2009 single "Need You Now" became the first of many hits to reach not just the country Top Ten but the pop Top Ten as well. The group formed when Scott met Kelley and Haywood in Nashville, and after a few months of performing around the area, they signed with Capitol Nashville in 2007. Lady Antebellum's first single, "Love Don't Live Here," peaked at number three on the country charts. A self-titled debut album followed in April 2008, featuring production from Victoria Shaw and Paul Worley and stocked with more country hits (including the chart-topping single "I Run to You," which also enjoyed crossover success as a Top 40 pop hit). Lady A has sold over 18 million records and have released their new album Heart Break—their sixth release and first new music since 2014’s 747—the multi-platinum-selling group mapped out a liberating approach. It’s not as if they were slacking during the hiatus (Kelley released the Grammy-nominated The Driver, Scott won two Grammys for her faith-based project Love Remains, and Haywood produced and wrote with several developing acts), but they always knew they would get back to making Lady A music. The question was how. “We knew we wanted to take that break to be with our families and chase some new creative paths,” says Haywood. “But even during that time, I remember Charles saying ‘Guys, let’s figure out how to use this time as a way to really dig into this next record, make time to do nothing but create music together. How do we come at it in a totally different way?’“ So the trio embarked on a new mission—setting aside time to put themselves in new surroundings, and concentrate on writing and exploring musical possibilities with no distractions. They rented a house in Florida, living and working under the same roof, and when the experiment proved successful, they set up a second retreat in Southern California. [jwplayer f2pe8CM1-l7EWbzYK] “The goal was to give each other our undivided attention,” says Scott. “Being in a new space meant we could really free our minds to focus solely on our art. We took some of our favorite writers and some writers we hadn’t worked with before to a new inspiring backdrop, where we were able to just write and soak up the process.” Even more crucially, along the way, the members of Lady Antebellum were able to dive into their relationship as friends. “We’d wake up and Dave would have cooked breakfast and it was amazing,” says Kelley. “Making drinks and staying up talking until 3 in the morning—we hadn’t gotten to do that in forever.” “Being together every day, living in a house together, that was the special ingredient this time,” says Haywood, while Scott adds, “We’ve always been close, but we got to reconnect even deeper into our friendships, and that was really priceless.”

Whether as a solo artist or in a duet with with Helen Cornelius, JIM ED BROWN never fails to make magic with a song. But, any discussion about the career of Jim Ed would have to begin with the years he spent singing with his sisters Maxine and Bonnie as The Browns. Recording together for well over a decade, the trio put together a catalouge that included “Lookin’ Back To See,” “I Heard The Bluebirds Sing,” and their iconic 1959 crossover record “The Three Bells.”  Looking back on that family blend of harmony that brought him to the dance, Jim Ed says his singing with his siblings never really had a beginning point. It was just something that always was a part of life, growing up in Sparkman, Arkansas. “We started singing when we were young kids. I lost my little brother when I was nine years old, and I remember he and I sang together. We would listen to Daddy’s old battery operated radio. If it was a clear night, we might be able to pick up the Grand Ole Opry,” he recalls.  Jim Ed's easy going nature and movie-star good looks led to a long career on television – with stints on his own The Country Place TV show in the early 1970s, Nashville On The Road, and You Can Be A Star – which helped launch many of Music City’s greatest, including Linda Davis. Then, in 1976, fate – and Chet Atkins stepped in again. “Chet found this song, and gave it to Bob Ferguson – who was my producer at the time. It was a great song - ‘I Don’t Want To Have To Marry You.’ I wanted to do it solo, but he wanted me to do it as a duet. He said he wanted me to cut it with Helen Cornelius."  Jim Ed Brown joins me on the show to talk about his music career and new album In Style Again.

Provider and Payor Concerns About Consumer Cost Information

Until patient satisfaction ratings can be evidenced to be linked to outcomes, they should not factor into a provider's quality ratings, says Mark Xistris, director of provider relations and health information for The Alliance, an employer-owned and directed not-for-profit cooperative that helps companies manage the total cost of ensuring the health and well-being of their workforce. His organization, recently named a community leader by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, believes that providers and payors have legitimate concerns about releasing cost information to consumers, who may misinterpret the data without proper guidelines. Gary Austin, a healthcare industry consultant on corporate/product strategy and program management, Linda Davis, a consultant to the Buyers Health Care Action Group (BHCAG) in Minnesota, Sue Lewis, senior vice president of health and productivity solutions at IncentOne, and Xistris, examined how their respective organizations are using these four strategies to stay competitive in the fast-growing consumer-driven movement during a May 30, 2007 audio conference, Value-Driven Healthcare in Action: A Four-Pronged Approach to Meet Consumer Transparency, Quality and Access Demands.

OVercoming the Obstacles of Exchanging Patient Health Information Using Value-Based Healthcare Choices

A lack of trust in the use of patient health information and a general reluctance to share patient information with industry competitors are the biggest obstacles to an open exchange of patient health information, says Gary Austin, a healthcare industry consultant on corporate/product strategy and program management. In spite of these roadblocks, the health plans he's met with support a climate of value-based healthcare choices. Many plans have already invested millions to equip physicians with the capability for e-prescribing, and more will underwrite physicians in the use of electronic medical records in the next few years. He envisions that consumer "smart cards" loaded with patient health information will initially be introduced within individual health systems, and eventually be usable between systems. Austin, Linda Davis, a consultant to the Buyers Health Care Action Group (BHCAG) in Minnesota, Sue Lewis, senior vice president of health and productivity solutions at IncentOne, and Mark Xistris, director of provider relations and health information for The Alliance, examined how their respective organizations are using these four strategies to stay competitive in the fast-growing consumer-driven movement during a May 30, 2007 audio conference, Value-Driven Healthcare in Action: A Four-Pronged Approach to Meet Consumer Transparency, Quality and Access Demands.

A Transparent Reporting Effort Can Bring Cultural Change and Raise Motivation

A physician practice's measurements reporting efforts will flourish under a "physician champion" to lead the way, notes Linda Davis, a consultant to the Buyers Health Care Action Group (BHCAG) in Minnesota. Once a transparent reporting effort is underway, it can bring about significant cultural change and raise motivation levels in the naturally competitive provider environment, she adds. Aware of the automated vs. manual reporting methods in use, the BHCAG facilitates the reporting effort via its direct data submission process, which accepts data from practices in many formats. Gary Austin, a healthcare industry consultant on corporate/product strategy and program management, Davis, Sue Lewis, senior vice president of health and productivity solutions at IncentOne, and Mark Xistris, director of provider relations and health information for The Alliance, examined how their respective organizations are using these four strategies to stay competitive in the fast-growing consumer-driven movement during a May 30, 2007 audio conference, Value-Driven Healthcare in Action: A Four-Pronged Approach to Meet Consumer Transparency, Quality and Access Demands.

Rewarding members and employees for being savvy medical consumers and shopping is an increasing trend in healthcare, notes Sue Lewis, senior vice president of health and productivity solutions at IncentOne. Companies are leveraging the corporate Intranet, meetings and health fairs to spread the word on incentives to their populations. She has also observed that companies offering consumer-directed health plans are in the best position tax-wise to extend benefits to dependents and retirees.
