Listen to some of the best moments of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show podcast this past week. Ice Cube joined the crew to discuss the growth of the BIG3 basketball league, a 3-on-3 circuit featuring former NBA stars. He talked about innovative rules and strategic expansion, sharing how the league is becoming a meaningful movement in the basketball world. Music icon Ne-Yo joined the conversation, revealing his growing interest in country-infused R&B while working in Nashville and discussing his creative approach and future projects. Hear as the RSMS crew discuss mental health and pontificate about the younger generation speaking to their elders. Also, Black Toney still is not at work. I've started collecting vinyl singles heavily this year and came across some really great records that you can't find on Spotify or Apple Music, so I wanted to share them with y'all here. Here's a mix of my favorite rare R&B remixes from the 90's to 2000's that'll make you go, "damn they made a remix to this??" This was also my first recorded vinyl set ever, so I'm pretty happy with it so I can review the tape and look at my mistakes. Filmed live at the grand opening of our new pop-up coffee shop, B2B Café at Slow Jamz Gallery. If you're in LA, come thru, grab a drink, and listen to the baristas spin some records. On today’s Rickey Smiley Morning Show, listeners are treated to a mix of political fights, celebrity clarification, and musical inspiration. A bi-coastal coalition of 24 states plus DC filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for withholding $6.8 billion in federally-approved education funding—arguing the freeze violates constitutional spending norms and jeopardizes critical programs. In lighter news, former President Barack and Michelle Obama hilariously shot down persistent divorce rumors on Michelle’s “IMO” podcast, joking that Michelle “took him back” and emphasizing that their bond has only strengthened over 30 years of marriage. And music icon Ne-Yo joined the conversation, revealing his growing interest in country-infused R&B while working in Nashville and discussing his creative approach and future projects. On the sixth day of Sean "Diddy" Combs' federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial, singer Dawn Richard delivered harrowing testimony detailing multiple instances of physical abuse Combs allegedly inflicted upon his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Richard recounted a 2009 incident at Combs' Los Angeles home where, enraged over breakfast, he purportedly attempted to strike Ventura with a skillet full of eggs, subsequently dragging her by the hair upstairs. She also described a 2010 episode at a restaurant where Combs allegedly punched Ventura in the stomach in the presence of celebrities like Usher and Ne-Yo, none of whom intervened. Richard testified that Combs later assaulted Ventura in a car, grabbing her neck and slapping her while asserting control over her. Additionally, Richard claimed Combs threatened her and others, warning they "could go missing" if they spoke out about the abuse.During cross-examination, Combs' defense attorney, Nicole Westmoreland, challenged Richard's credibility by highlighting inconsistencies in her accounts and questioning her motives, suggesting her testimony might be influenced by personal grievances over the dissolution of music groups Danity Kane and Diddy-Dirty Money. Richard acknowledged feeling "saddened" by the groups' disbandment but denied harboring anger. She maintained that her recollections were as accurate as possible, emphasizing her desire for justice rather than compensation. On Day Six of Sean "Diddy" Combs' federal trial, Kerry Morgan, former best friend of Cassie Ventura, delivered compelling testimony detailing multiple instances of alleged abuse. Morgan recounted witnessing Combs physically assault Ventura, including a 2016 incident where he reportedly kicked, dragged, and threw an object at her in a hotel lobby, followed by an attempt to break down her apartment door with a hammer. Morgan also testified about a 2018 incident where Combs allegedly choked her and struck her with a wooden hanger, resulting in a concussion. She stated that she received $30,000 from Combs in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement, after which her friendship with Ventura ended.Following Morgan's testimony, David James, Combs' former personal assistant, took the stand to describe the environment within Combs' inner circle. James depicted Combs' world as a "kingdom" where staff were expected to serve him unconditionally. He recounted conversations where Combs referred to Ventura as "young" and "moldable," asserting control over her career and personal life. James also testified that Ventura expressed feelings of entrapment, stating she couldn't leave because Combs controlled her music career, finances, and living arrangements.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

This week, we are honored to welcome R&B-Pop icon, Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and genius, Ne-Yo to the podcast. In this extensive conversation, Ne-Yo shares insights from his remarkable 20-year career, discussing his approach to touring then versus now, emphasizing his commitment to live performances over lip-syncing. He reflects on the recent "Mary J. Blige Strength of a Woman Tour" with special guest Mario, highlighting the amazing experience and the powerful moment of performing "You Should Let Me Love You" with Mario for the first time. Ne-Yo delves into his early career, including his challenging experience with Columbia Records and the creative freedom he found at Def Jam under L.A. Reid, which shaped his debut album. He discusses the evolution of R&B, the importance of male vulnerability in songwriting, and how it is a subject matter he still wishes to explore in his music. He and Chuck Harmony recount the serendipitous story of their first collaboration, which sparked Harmony's career and led to Ne-Yo writing hits for Céline Dion, Mary J. Blige, and Janet Jackson in a single night! Ne-Yo also shares the creation process behind his own hits like "So Sick" and "Closer," revealing how L.A. Reid strategically planned the release of "Stay" before "So Sick" as a "jab before the knockout punch." He recounts the surprising origin of Beyoncé's "Flaws and All," initially intended for Britney Spears, and how Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" album also came from songs originally written for Britney. Ne-Yo shares his desire to collaborate with Stevie Wonder, who, along with Michael Jackson, influenced his acceptance of his own voice. He also tells the wild story of his group Envy's disastrous performance on Showtime at the Apollo. Finally, Ne-Yo addresses his personal life, discussing his decision to be open about his polyamorous relationships and offering candid advice on honesty and living authentically. On today's show, we chat with Melody Noel! For Melody Noel, music is a life force. Born into a family of mariachis spanning across seven generations — with the earliest musician dating back to the 1870s — Melody forged her own path as the first to create music outside the Mexican folk genre. Melody began her journey in pop music as a member of teen girl group Runway MMC. This experience opened her eyes to the American music scene, working with the likes of Grammy nominated Alex Cantrall (“Leave (Get Out)” by JoJo) and Brandon Howard (“I Ain't Gotta Tell You” by Ne-Yo) for Runway MMC's debut EP “Forever Yours” (2008). Melody pursued higher education at NYU's Clive Davis School of Recorded Music, graduating in 2014. Her class project, an EP titled “The Living Room Sessions,” sparked the interest of music publisher Imagem Music; they signed her soon after in 2012.She continued her path as a songsmith in Los Angeles, toplining for songs such as “IDon't Wanna Love You” (Casablanca Records/UMG) by Prince Fox, “In My Head (feat.Georgia Ku)” (Mad Decent) by Party Favor, and “Paper Roses” (Spinnin' Records) by Kura. In 2016, she co-wrote the single “Love Make the World Go Round” recorded by Jennifer Lopez and Lin Manuel Miranda. Released exclusively on iTunes, all proceeds were donated to those affected by the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, FL. The song peaked at no. 72 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and no. 9 on the Digital Songs chart. After feeling the pull to write songs for something bigger than herself, Melody pivoted to the Christian music genre, establishing Influence Music in 2017. In 2018, Melody led the worship collective in creating iTunes no. 1 and Billboard no. 2 album “Touching Heaven.” Melody's single “Mistakes” made it on Billboard's Christian Airplay chart for 20weeks. She continues writing and performing songs that are utilized by churches globally. To date, Melody's songs have been streamed 228 million times across DSPs. Whether writing music for pop icons, film and television or for local congregants, the banner Melody carries over it all is "Soli Deo gloria,” meaning “Glory to God alone. With the release of “Back to Praise” via Influence Music (distr. via Capitol Christian Music Group), Melody is stepping out in faith to accomplish such a mission. This EP consists of five pop-infused worship songs that remind believers that no matter what life brings, God is good, and our response is to keep coming “Back to Praise.” melodynoelmusic.com@melodynoelmusicchristianmusicguys.com@christianmusicguys
