Today's Destination is: Harriman, New York Today's Mistake- overweight luggage Travel Advice: Dubai is accessible Today's destination: Harriman, New York https://www.visitthecatskills.com/ North of New York City is upstate and some of my best memories growing up were here. If you saw the movie, Dirty Dancing, which took place at now-closed Grossinger's in the Catskills Mountains. It's a haven for people wanting to get away from New York City. Nearby is Harriman State Park, where you can do some great sightseeing and hiking. It's all part of a bigger mountain region in Upstate New York, including parts of the Appalachian Trail and the Catskills area. Today's Mistake- Overweight luggage Flying with overweight luggage can get pricey. I arrived at the airport with luggage that was 5 pounds over the limit. I spent time re-arranging the items and moving some heavy items to my carry-on bag, putting on another layer of clothing, and then re-weighing the item. It took a few tries, but eventually, the luggage weight fit under the limit. I should have weighed the bag at home before getting to the airport and finding this out. Don't be like me. Weigh your bag first. Today's Travel Advice-Dubai is accessible, even if it's a far trip.

In this episode: FAQ is: Are cruises safe from covid or not? Today's Destination is Long Island, New York Today's Mistake- Sailing on a Catamaran Travel Advice: Use your airline points now or risk losing them FAQ is: Are cruises safe from covid or not? Answer: The CDC has lifted the restrictions, but that doesn't mean it's over. The reporting of additional outbreaks is still happening. Don't let that keep you from your cruise. Check the color status of your ship before you embark. Show notes have links to some helpful tips on staying safe. Follow the requirements before boarding which include vaccinations and testing protocol. These are all subject to change. https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/cruise-ship-color-status.html https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2022/03/30/1089748769/cdc-cruise-travel-covid Today's Long Island, New York I was raised on Long Island, New York and I had an accent back then. I've worked hard to lose it, but it comes back when I visit. I also say funny words, like Orange and Florida. What's it like on Long Island? It's a step one or two destination. Here are some things you may know and may not know about it. It's the longest and the largest island in the contiguous United States, Long Island extends 118 miles (190 km) eastward from New York Harbor to Montauk Point. Long Island is densely populated with 8 million people in all. Along its Atlantic coast are Jones Beach State Park, Fire Island and Montauk Point State Park, at the end of the fork. As kids, my parents took us to these places often. My mom told a story about almost drowning in the ocean there, but all went fine. Long Island is home to the late-1700s era Montauk Lighthouse. On the east end, the North Fork is home to wineries and the East, South, and West Hamptons, characterized by upscale homes, trendy restaurants and antiques shops. When I grew up there, I never knew it was trendy. https://www.discoverlongisland.com/ https://www.longisland.com/ On Long Island there are Kings or Brooklyn and Queens, plus Nassau and Suffolk counties, split into two forks. North and South Fork. There are wineries, farm stands, theaters, country clubs and well known beaches like Jones Beach, Robert Moses and more. Plan a day trip. Choose one central location. Then plan activities around it. See what you can and come back again. Today's Mistake- Sailing on a Catamaran I rented a sailboat, a catamaran on Mission Bay for an afternoon. I thought I was a good sailor at the time. I had finished a sailing safety course and knew a lot of the theory. But in practice, I was lousy. I invited my friends to join me on the boat and I tipped it over and could not get it back up again. That was a disaster. Don't do what I did with a sailboat. Know your sailing and winds before you go. Today's Travel Advice- Use your airline and hotel miles now If you have travel points or miles on an airline, use them up. I believe that soon we will see these rewards change to a new type of value, called tokens. The token economy is heading our way, and loyalty will look much different. Donate miles to a charity if you can. Give them to your children and grandchildren now, while they still have some benefit. They are not “your” owned items, as they belong to the carrier. They have the right to change the rules anytime, with you missing out. If you notice the long legal disclaimers on these programs give all rights to them, and there are no rights to members. [Comment: Lens of Humility] Friends of the Rosary: We cannot avoid foul thoughts but we can avoid foul behavior. We were brought into life carrying the original sin. We weren't born Immaculate as John the Baptist, the Virgin Mary, or Jesus Christ himself. It means that we must do our best to cultivate holy virtues and get rid of disordered practices. This is a lifelong battle that we cannot win without the help of the Holy Spirit. We need to ask for grace, mercy, and courage, as we do in every Rosary prayer. Alone we can do nothing, as Jesus revealed. In the first Joyful Mystery, we learn to see the world through the lens of humility, as the Holy Virgin taught. This way we try to abandon ourselves in Jesus and Mary to receive wisdom from above. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! St. Vincent de Paul, Pray for Us! + Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York ____ Today is the Memorial day of St. Vincent de Paul, a French priest in the seventeenth century who founded the Vincent de Paul Society and became a great apostle of charity. —- Live Rosary every day at 7:30 PM Eastern. On-demand at any time.
[Comment: Last Coming] Friends of the Rosary: The Second Glorious Mystery features Jesus Christ seated at the right hand of the Father. And by both the Nicean and Apostles' Creed, we are revealed that the Son of God will come again to judge the living and the dead. When He comes in His glory a second and last time on earth, to reign here, He will come through the Holy Mary, as it happened so perfectly the first time. St. Louis Mary de Montfort explains in this prophetic book "True Devotion to Mary" the following: "The first time he came secretly; the second time He will come gloriously and resplendently. But both times He will come perfectly, because both times He will come by Mary." The Holy One took the road of Mary. We the faithful must know, by the practice of the devotion to Mary, that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the perfect path by which we unite ourselves to Jesus. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! + Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York --- Today is the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Kolkata, a universal symbol of God's merciful and preferential love for the poor and forgotten. —- Watch this Podcast on YouTube and/or attend the community-driven daily prayer every day at 7:30 pm ET on YouTube.com/TheRosaryNetwork
[Comment: True Child of Israel] Friends of the Rosary: We honor today St. Bartholomew, one of the Twelve Apostles mentioned in the Gospels and in the Acts. In St. John's Gospel is known as Nathaniel. Jesus said of him, “Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him” (John 1:47). St. Bartholomew was a good Jew, honest and innocent, a man well-read in the Scriptures, who recognized Jesus as the Son of God. After the Ascension of Jesus, St. Bartholomew evangelized Asia Minor, northwestern India, and Armenia. He died as a martyr in Armenia. He was dramatically burnt to death, and while still alive, his skin was torn from his body. He is often portrayed as a skinless man holding his own skin. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! St. Bartholomew, Pray for Us! + Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York —- Today is also the feast of Our Lady, Health of the Sick. Our Lady Health of the Sick shrine is in the diocese of Michoacan, in Mexico. Her statue became a favorite Madonna in western Mexico and northward into the United States. In New Mexico, she is Our Lady of Santa Fe. Watch this Podcast in Video and/or attend the community-driven daily prayer every day at 7:30 pm ET on YouTube.com/TheRosaryNetwork

[Comment: Risen] Friends of the Rosary: Life on Earth is a purification until we meet the Father again. Adam and Eve broke the bond with the Divinity and our nature got wounded. As St. Augustine described, our soul is restless until it rests on God. In our struggle, the Most Holy Mary is our advocate. God Himself sacrificed his Son taking a human form and suffering martyrdom after He was brutally tortured in Palestine. By doing so, He defeated sin and death and showed us the path to take—which is based on imitating Him. Like Jesus Christ—as we say in the first Glorious Mystery that we pray today—we will rise triumphant. Ave Maria! [Comment: Eternal Source of Joy] Friends of the Rosary: The Most Holy Virgin Mary connects Heaven and Earth and equips us with a unique perspective of what's eternal life. If the world knew who really is the Queen of Heaven and Earth, it would quickly run to worship Her. At the end of ages, we will definitely know it. When God created the soul of Mary and She gave Her Fiat, mankind found an unexpected source of joy and hope. Our Beloved Mother corrected the damage done by Eve, reopening the door to reconciliation with the Father. It then started an amazing age of grace that will last for eternity. We profoundly adore the Holy Mary. Jesus wanted us to love Mary as much as He loved her. Our Holy Rosary is a testimony of our love to the Mother of Jesus. Ave Maria! [Written by Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York] ___ Today's Holy Rosary in Video | Today's Broadcast at 7:30 pm ET on YouTube.com/TheRosaryNetwork ___
[Comment: How the World Changes] Friends of the Rosary: The supernatural apparitions of the Holy Virgin in Guadalupe, Lourdes, and Fatima—to name the most relevant—resulted in the conversion and sanctification of countless souls. These events changed the world. The whole world benefits from the conversion of even one heart. The Heavens rejoice with the salvation of one soul and the entire Earth improves. This is one of the mysteries of the Creation. The Holy Trinity never stops giving us opportunities so we can correct our impulse to destruction and embrace the true life. Why our hearts are so hardened? After Jesus' resurrection and ascension into Heaven, the Holy Virgin Mary was commissioned to appear on Earth from time to time, to reopen the eyes of our soul and make us rejoice in the love of Jesus Christ. With our daily Rosary, we invoke the Marian Light. Ave Maria! [Comment: Immaculate Conception] Friends of the Rosary: On February 11th, 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared, dressed in white, to a poor, fourteen-year-old Marie Bernade Soubirous, St. Bernadette, in a grotto in Lourdes, in the south of France. It was Her first supernatural apparition out of eighteen, until March 25th. The Immaculate Virgin Mary called to personal conversion, prayer, and charity, and recited the Holy Rosary with St. Bernadette. She also announced: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Since then, Lourdes became a mystical place of pilgrimage. And through Her intercession, many miraculous cures and conversions have taken place here. Lourdes is one of the most important places of grace and spiritual rebirth. Ave Maria! [Written by Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York] ___ Today's Holy Rosary in Video | Today's Broadcast at 7:30 pm ET on YouTube.com/TheRosaryNetwork ___ Reflections on Today's Luminous Mysteries in connection with Lourdes: 1st Mystery: Like St. Bernadette in Lourdes, we too open our hearts to the presence of the Mother and the Holy Spirit and we are captivated by the mystery of the Son. 2nd Mystery: The Blessed Mother knows better than anyone else the Will of the Son and the mysterious plan of God. No one better than Holy Mary can convince us to "do whatever he tells you”. 3rd Mystery: The message of Lourdes recalls the words Jesus said at the beginning of his public mission: "Convert and believe in the Gospel, pray and do penance." 4th Mystery: In the Grotto of Lourdes, St. Bernadette was illuminated with a light of grace. We see that the Most Holy Mary is inviting us to follow a path of holiness and perfection. 5th Mystery: The presence of the Blessed Mother is a mystery to honor her Divine Son, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist, the Mass, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. [Written by Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York]
[Comment: Our Lady of the Tear of Joy] Friends of the Rosary: Our Lady of the Tear of Joy is a miraculous photo that appeared in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2017, during a party gathering of 200 people set to celebrate the Blessed Mother's birthday, on September 8th. We met with one of the promoters, Maria Vivas, in our daily Rosary prayer. She explained to us that "anyone holding the image while praying the Memorare experiences physical healing and spiritual conversion if that's in Jesus' will." Copies of the image of Our Lady of the Tear of Joy have been mailing to prayer groups in the U.S., Canada, and overseas. Many have felt the strong presence of Our Lady as a result of this beautiful polaroid photo. The testimonies of healing and conversions all over the world are amazing. Please check the story, along with the messages of the Virgin Mary, and request copies at the website tearofjoy.org. Ave Maria! [Comment: Doubting?] Friends of the Rosary: It is natural to have doubts. Authentic faith wrestles with doubt from time to time. We're flawed humans, wounded by the original sin. All the saints experienced dryness and even loneliness and darkness in their dwelling to holiness. In his extreme humanity, Jesus Christ thought for a second that His Father abandoned him. The quintessential question is this: when we doubt, are we looking for answers or an excuse to opt-out? Seeking answers will grow our faith. Healthy faith asks questions. We need faith in the absence of certainty. This modern society of ours demands proof and certainty of everything. This thought results in separating millions from God. Let's cultivate the virtue of perseverance, the fruit of the fifth mystery that we pray for today. Ave Maria! [Written by Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York] ___ Today's Holy Rosary in Video | Today's Broadcast at 7:30 pm ET on YouTube.com/TheRosaryNetwork
[Comment: Will, Effort, Faith] Friends of the Rosary, The faith comes to us through Divine grace. The Holy Spirit illuminates us and we receive this gratuitous gift of God. All Christians—Catholics and Protestants—agree on this. However, the idea that we need to do nothing is wrong. First, we need a movement of the will. We must desire to increase our faith. That's what we proclaim when we pray the first Hail Mary in our Rosary. Also, in the first Glorious Mystery—the Resurrection—we highlight our desire to cultivate the theological virtue of the faith. So far, so good. Second, friends, we need an active and daily effort. We must convince the Holy Trinity about our will with constant prayers and works. In here we need to be patient and perseverant. We will be infused with faith and peace at the right time. And remember to invoke Our Blessed Mother to intercede for us. Ave Maria! [Written by Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York] ___ Today's Holy Rosary in Video | Today's Broadcast at 7:30 pm ET on YouTube.com/TheRosaryNetwork
[Comment: Defeating Darkness] Friends of the Rosary, In the last week, we read in The New Testament passages of Jesus curing individuals possessed by demons. Even He sent out the Twelve to battle dark spirits. Friends, contrary to what many say—even within the Church—Satan and evil spirits are around us trying to devour our soul. The Scriptures revealed that one-third of the angels went into rebellion against God. Then, Saint Michael, the Archangel cast them out the Heaven and they fell into Earth. The Evildoer operates in the hide and masks himself to make people think that his demonic activity doesn't exist. But he is much alive, and moreover, it seems that he is advancing fast today. The Master of lies fills his collaborators with destructive ideas with one sole purpose: to deny the divinity and eternal truth of the Holy One, Jesus Christ. We Christians don't obsess with Satan, nor entertain, or engage in his deceits. We pray and invoke St Michael the Archangel, who defeated the Devil three times. Let's firmly hold the Holy Rosary of the Virgin Mary, along with holy water and the crucifix—three main sacramental tools that the Heavens have provided us to combat evil. Ave Maria! [Comment: Sublime Truths] Friends of the Rosary, The mysteries of the Rosary are difficult to understand. The most important virtues in the lives of Jesus and Mary are summarized in twenty sacred mysteries. These works are full of deep truths, wonders, and perfections. That's why St. Louis Mary De Montfort, the author of The Secret of the Rosary, highlighted the need for the intervention of the Holy Spirit. He said that the Advocate reveals the sublime truths to humble and simple souls who honor the mysteries of the Rosary. Let's pray the Joyful Mysteries faithfully by opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit. And if we get distracted at some point, remember that what matters is to have faith in Jesus and Mary. Ave Maria! [Comment: Silent Heroes] Friends of the Rosary, Christians suffer persecutions all over the World. Sometimes, when evil-inspired ideas want to suppress the Resurrected Jesus Christ, persecution is ideological. Other times, the attacks become physical. Each year over tens of thousands of Christian followers are killed because of their commitment to the true faith. These martyrs are our contemporary silent heroes. Their blood and sacrifice is the seed of the Church for salvation. Today's Gospel gives an account of Herod's murder of John the Baptist (Mark 6:14-29). In addition, we celebrate today the Memorial of St. Agatha, the legendary virgin and martyr who was tortured and died in defense of her purity and chastity, in Catania, Sicily, in 251 AD. Ave Maria! [Comment: Treasures in Heaven] Friends of the Rosary, In business, we continuously analyze investment strategies. This is critical for the survival of any corporation. Shouldn't we discuss that in our daily life? Jesus Christ instructed us what to do: "Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Matthew 6:20). We need a business plan for the soul. Investment in eternity is what really pays off. What's the value of a temporary investment if we lose friendship with Jesus and Mary? Every day we try to purify a bit of our soul in our path to Heaven. We fall down and get back up. That's daily life. A sacramental life of faith, humility, hope, and charity will lead to store treasures in Heaven. As the Son of God said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). [Comment: Lack of Faith] Friends of the Rosary, We define ourselves as faithful. Fine. Let's wait until being rejected by our own relatives and friends. How we will react then? Will we instantly forgive them or confront them with arguments? This happened to Jesus Christ in Galilee. As we read today, He was amazed at their lack of faith. (Mk 6:1-6) He didn't confront them by performing miracles. On the contrary, He humbled himself, forgave them, and went into prayer. Like Jesus, we need to be ready for this harsh reality. Let's remember what He said: “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” Ave Maria! [Comment: Lady of Sorrows] Friends of the Rosary, Today, forty days after the birth of Jesus, we celebrate the feast of the Presentation of the Lord by Mary and Joseph in the Temple, in obedience to the Mosaic Law (Lk 2, 22-40). Simeon and Anna, the two venerable elderly dedicated to prayer and fasting in the Temple, recognized the Messiah. This festivity is also referred to as The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which means the renewal of her total offering to God's Divine Plan—even as Simeon predicted that a sword would pierce her heart. In this sense, we also meditate on the constant fiat of Our Lady of Sorrows, who faithfully embraced the will of God. A final note. In some places, this day is popularly known as Candlemas, because there are candlelight processions. Ave Maria! [Comment: Perfect Consecration] [Video Tour at Boston's Holy Cross Cathedral] Friends of the Rosary, The Holy Virgin Mary was—and is—all-perfection because she was the most conformed and united creature to Jesus Christ of all-time. The Queen of Angels and Saints and Spouse of the Holy Spirit was the perfect disciple of the Son of God. Hence, the consecration to Jesus Christ is by the Blessed Mary. St. Louis de Montfort wrote: “The most perfect consecration to Jesus Christ is nothing else but a perfect and entire consecration of ourselves to the Blessed Virgin.” Through the devotion of the Holy Rosary, we give ourselves to Our Lady in Heaven, and by Her, we belong entirely to Jesus Christ. [Comment: Mustard Seed] Friends of the Rosary, C.S. Lewis, the British writer and lay theologian, explained that God entered history quietly, in a forgotten corner of the Roman Empire, sneaking behind enemy lines. Christianity established the same way: planting the seed, making the move, and taking the risk. The Holy Trinity works quietly, slowly, and gradually. It's like the parable of the mustard seed, revealed last Friday in the Gospel's reading (Mk 4:26-34). Jesus compared the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed that is insignificant until it springs and becomes the largest plant and puts forth large branches. We are called to have an inner spiritual life along with visible missionary life. This is how we help to build the Kingdom of God on Earth. Every single action—even the tiniest—is valuable in the eyes of the Father. Ave Maria! [Comment: Intense Prayer] Friends of the Rosary, As we model our life on the imitation of Christ, we need to be ready to be insulted—even by people around us. Especially, if they see us reciting the Holy Rosary. Jesus Christ, Himself was attacked by relatives. "He is out of his mind," they said, as we read on Saturday in The New Testament (Mk 3:20-21). Most of the times, this mockery is either a demonstration of jealousy, because of our faith, or just pure ignorance. In all circumstances, we won't get a gold medal. Success on Earth while being faithful is very complicated. The holiest saints suffered persecution, mainly from within the Church. Padre Pio, Faustina Kovalksva, Teresa of Avila, or Ignatius of Loyola are good examples. How do we face those who undermine and demoralize us? By forgiveness and intense prayer, including here our daily Rosary. Jesus and Mary will give us comfort, peace, and hope. Ave Maria! Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for Us! [Comment: Grace of a Happy Death] Friends of the Rosary, When you lose someone dear to you, you feel the infinite sadness and sorrow for seeing a loved-one departed, mostly, because you won't be able to talk or listen to him ever again on Earth. His soul will be now fully purified before resting in peace in eternity, in order to enjoy the presence of the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, the Communion of Saints, prophets, and patriarchs—the entire Heavenly Court! Yesterday, my father-in-law Julian died yesterday at the age of 87 due to COVID in Leon, Spain. He was a devoted, faithful father and husband. For us, he was a model of holiness, as well. My own father Alberto—who died ten years ago—was cut with the same Christian values. They both transmitted to us the wisdom of the faith, hope, and love of Jesus Christ. Julian had a prayerful life and was very devout of Our Lady of Fatima. He told us he had a very happy life; he received the grace of a happy death—both fruits of the Mysteries of the Ascension and the Coronation of Mary. Hours before he died, he delivered us a piece of invaluable advice: pray a lot. We will honor him by trying to keep a prayerful life. Ave Maria! Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for Us! [Comment: Intellectual and Humble] Friends of the Rosary, Today is the Memorial Day of St. Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of the Church, and one of the brightest theologians, philosophers, and writers of all time. He wrote in the thirteen century Summa Theologiae, which was placed for reference during the Council of Trent. His profound humility even surpassed his intellectual capacity. Despite his reputation, he remained modest, with childlike innocence and goodness. When some sinned through weakness, he expressed sorrow as if it was his sin. He was always alleviating the needs of others. At the end of his life, and after having a vision of the glory of God, he claimed: “All that I have written seems to me like straw compared to what has now been revealed to me.” Ave Maria! [Comment: World Passing Away] Friends of the Rosary, The world in its present form is passing away, wrote St. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians (1 Cor 7:29) this Sunday. Certainly, time flies and everything fades away quickly. In just three weeks, on February 17, we will celebrate Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Catholics will be marked on the forehead with a cross of ash. We will be invited to repent and believe, while remembered that “we are dust, and to dust, you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19). The good news is that our life is eternal. As we say every day in the Holy Rosary, Jesus Christ, with his life, death, and resurrection, purchased for us the rewards of eternal life. We pray the Glorious Mysteries today. Ave Maria! [Comment: Pain] Friends of the Rosary, As we meditate today upon the Sorrowful Mysteries, we try to identify ourselves with the pain of Jesus Christ—witnessed by His Mother. He agonized in the Garden of Gethsemane when confronted with the sins of the World. Later, He was brutally whipped, crowned with thorns, and publicly mocked. He carried a heavy cross to the Calvary, and finally, He was tortured and agonized to death in the cross. When we feel pain, please let's look at the Son of God on the cross, and let's wonder how many times do we crucify Jesus in our daily life, inflicting him more suffering. We ask for his forgiveness. [Comment: Miraculous Conversion] Friends of the Rosary, We celebrate today the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, the Apostle. Before his soul was transformed, he was a zealous Pharisee, a learned scholar, and fierce persecutor of Christians—he even participated in the stoning of St. Stephen. While on his way to Damascus, he was suddenly converted by a miraculous apparition of Jesus Christ. He became the great Apostle of the Gentiles in Asia and southern Europe, probably Hispania—the old Spain. He wrote fourteen Epistles in the New Testament and made thousands of converts. Born in Tarsus—now a city in Turkey—of Jewish parents, and Roman citizen from birth, St. Paul was martyred, beheaded, in Rome around 65 A.D. Ave Maria! St. Paul Pray for Us!
