SERIES 2 EPISODE 72: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Literally, Trumped-Up Charges: in Univision interview Dementia J. Trump has confirmed last Sunday's Washington Post story that if we do not stop him from again taking over The White House, he WILL openly politicize the Department of Justice and order it to create fictional indictments of his political rivals in order to prosecute them from campaigns or elections. He literally boasted that he would do what he has falsely accused the legal system of doing to him. And of course if Trump can fabricate charges against politicians, he can fabricate them against you. "If I happen to be president and I see somebody who's doing well and beating me very badly, I say ‘Go down and indict them.' They'd be out of business, they'd be out of the election.” He also blamed the Democrats for his own evil, and in the process exposed more of his Swiss-cheese brain: "What they've done is, they've released the genie out of the...box." It's BOTTLE, genius. The Jack Smith Mar-a-Lago shocker: Potential witnesses against Trump? The receptionist, the head of maintenance, the housekeeper who cleans his bedroom suite and a woodworker who installed the Crown Molding in the bedroom (I'm guessing the color was gold). Trump was reportedly "ballistic" about the housekeeper. Could we get more obscure heroes like Alex Butterfield and Frank Wills? If you don't know them, you will. Another judge muddies the 14th Amendment case. In Michigan, Judge James Robert Redford (seriously) asks the suing attorney if the clause means you can only disqualify somebody AFTER he's been ELECTED? To which the lawyer aptly asks “That would require, what? The country to re-run an entire presidentical election?” And President Biden reminds us that his best re-election campaign ads would be ones in which he mocks Biden. Talking to auto workers yesterday he mocked him with instant success, and then doubled the laughter when he made the stations of the cross. B-Block (21:57) IN SPORTS: The Chicago White Sox suffer the greatest loss of free agency so far as play-by-play man Jason Benetti leaves for Detroit. The departure of Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell for the Cubs may not be the end of a retrenchment there. There might have been more of it around baseball at the General Mangers' Meeting - except it was cancelled a day early due to a raging virus that sent at least 10% of the executives to the restrooms. (25:44) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Nancy Mace is still getting skewered by Kevin McCarthy and by one remark she will never live down. New York rep Claudia Tenney is a veteran of making a fool of herself. She's done it again. And NewsNation - the Nick-At-Nite of TV News, hires yet another fired failure who doesn't have enough self-respect to find a different line of work. Megyn Kelly will moderate a GOP debate...free-lance? C-Block (32:05) FRIDAYS WITH JAMES THURBER: A selection of his shortest short stories: the fables, including his wonderful "The Unicorn In The Garden."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

EPISODE 154: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:41) SPECIAL COMMENT: DeSantis dismissed Ukraine as not being one of our "vital national interests" and exactly six hours later a Russian fighter jet was knocking one of our intelligence drones out of international air space 75 miles off the Ukrainian coach. DeFascist looks like an idiot today, especially since Republican grown-ups pounded the crap out of him all day, and even more so because as a Congressman, the Rube-In-High-Heels demanded offensive and defensive weapons be sent TO Ukraine. It's not just the standard story of a local yokel stepping onto the Republican national stage and promptly plummeting into the orchestra bit. DeSantis's flip-flop underscores the Republicans' century-long inability to make up its mind about any of the various incarnations of Russia. The America First DeSantii of 1939 wanted to ignore Russia even after its pact with Hitler. The post-war Republicans turned the actual Soviet threat into spies inside every home fallout shelter. Then Nixon went for detente. Then Reagan joked about beginning the bombing of Russia in five minutes. Then Reagan both destroyed the Soviet Union and 'brought peace.' Then Trump sold the GOP to Putin. Now DeSantis doesn't know which side of which is the Wokey-Fenokee Swamp. Meanwhile after a day of utter silence, Russia's second-favorite American Tucker Carlson actually mentioned Jacob Chansley, the Q Shaman. One mention. Literally. No explanation what happened to his wall-to-wall-coverage of the worst attack on American freedom unwoke non-CRT conspiracy. And coincidence or maybe more: heard anything from ANY Republican besides Gosar about it? Or about this "visit" to the January 6 defendants inside the DC Jail? They've gone silent too. But a DC judge hasn't: he says not only aren't the J6'ers NOT being mistreated, all their complaints have been addressed by the jailers AND they all have access to tablets to review...guess what...January 6th video for their defense. Something's up and it isn't Fox's ratings. B-Block (16:19) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Biden again notes that caving to Freedom Caucus demands to freeze spending at 2022 levels as their price to vote for a debt ceiling hike means...De-funding the police. Ohhhhhh are the Republicans pissed. Trump's indictment is days away and always will be. And he championed Veterinary Ivermectin for 11 years. Right up to the day it killed him. (20:40) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Brian Kilmeade calls Trump "the most disciplined I've ever seen him" because he hasn't dined with any white supremacists lately. The NHL televises a New York Rangers game live in cartoon without calling them the New York POWER Rangers. And a Minnesota state senator says there's no need for free school breakfasts or lunches because HE'S never met a hungry person. C-Block (26:30) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Hopper, in Missouri (27:15) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Dan Abrams of "News Nation" humiliated himself on his show on the Nick-At-Nite of TV News networks. Which reminded me of the day in 2006 the geniuses at NBC decided to make him General Manager of MSNBC. He was so bad so fast that ONE WEEK LATER they took all the power away from him. It's a long laugh.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
At long last, to revisit one of the seminal experiences of an 80's childhood–watching decades-old shows because Nickelodeon had too much time to fill–CEO and managing partner of Now We Know Industries Jordan Banks stops by the pod. He, Kevin, and Chris watched a trio of classic Nick at Nite shows: Dragnet, Taxi, and Bewitched. So, late on a school night, why not cozy up in bed with a new episode to drift off to? You can finish it tomorrow when you wake up.
It's court...at night! Join Jessica and Zach as they take a journey through the municipal halls of Night Court as they try to better understand the NBC property that ran from 1984–1992 and has recently been dusted off on Peacock. It is a bizarre court where the rules are made up, the laws don't matter, and everyone involved should be disbarred. Bonus that this episode features what is now Jessica's favorite sitcom episode ever: Season 3, Episode 5: "Halloween, Too". The episode from which we draw our title is a dead serious take on why a judge cannot date a witch. Jessica is obsessed. Episode 87 celebrates the coming of fall while also taking one look back at summer. Looking forward to fall there is a special Road Trip that showcases a beautiful fall foliage drive from each of the six New England states. There are nearly limitless scenic drives throughout the region and these are only a taste of what is out there. Looking back to summer there's a brand new Top 5 celebrating some of the most popular defunct New England amusement parks of yesteryear. These might not exist anymore but they left long-lasting memories for those generations that got to experience them. Many lighthouses have unique stories behind them. Perhaps none is more unique than that of the Three Sisters of Nauset. Once standing proudly on the bluffs of Eastham, Massachusetts these diminutive lighthouses were separated for decades before being reunited in a field far removed from the ocean's waves. How did they get there? We go way Back In the Day to look at what it was like as a child of the 1980s getting a crash course in 1950s television through the onset of Nick at Nite. Dennis the Menace, Mr. Ed, Car 54, and so many more became must-watch for a generation of 80s kids. There is a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule focusing on the release of The Beatles famed Abbey Road album.Helpful Links from this Episode(available through Buzzsprout)Purchase Iconic Hotels and Motels of Cape CodBuy Me A Coffee!Wear Your WishKiwi's Kustoms - EtsyDJ Williams MusicKeeKee's Cape Cod KitchenChristopher Setterlund's YouTube ChannelChristopher Setterlund.comThe In My Footsteps Podcast BlogSearching for the Lady of the DunesListen to Episode 86 here.Support the show

The meeting of Jesus and Nicodemus at night is one of the most famous and compelling stories in Scripture. This man's inner curiosity and spiritual thirst drove him to want to know more. What he heard puzzled and astonished him, but he heard from Jesus' own lips the only way to be saved. Jesus' words here divide all of humanity into two groups: those who are born again and those who are not.

This week It was a Thing on TV is going to leave you #1800235DEAD First, we look back at a classic baseball episode of one our favorite shows on the podcast. In 1984, the Chicago Cubs went to their first postseason in almost 40 years and a new NBC sitcom set in the Windy City capitalized on Cubs Fever. In this classic episode of Punky Brewster, Henry has to battle crazed fans, radio call-in contests and scalpers all in an effort to get Punky to see the Cubbies in the playoffs. Also how does someone from one our previous entries get involved in all of this? Next, Nick at Nite was a staple of our childhood's back in the 1980's and 1990's. One popular show on the early Nick at Nite lineup was Alfred Hitchcock Presents. It was so popular that the powers that be at Nick at Nite decided to run a marathon on Halloween Week 1990 along with a contest for the viewer to guess how many people kick the bucket during said marathon to win a murder mystery cruise. Also, you're probably wondering why Wink Martindale is involved in this based on the image right? Finally, Paul Lynde is one of the all-time legends of television from his zingers on The Hollywood Squares to playing Uncle Arthur on Bewitched. In 1972 after the cancellation of Bewitched, producer William Asher gave Paul his own self-titled sitcom based on a play that he had performed years earlier. Despite playing against type, he managed to make the best of it, sadly everything else around him didn't work, we look at the reasons why. Follow us at our social media pages over @ItWasAThingOnTV and contact us for feedback and show suggestions over at contact@itwasathingontv.com No wonder they get $7.50.

Does the phrase “Bewitched Be-Wednesdays” ring a bell? If so, you may remember that the mid-90s spawned a revival of classic sitcoms from the 50s, 60s, and 70s through Nick At Nite’s Block Party Summer programming, allowing a whole new generation of viewers to binge “oldies” like I Love Lucy, The Munsters, I Dream of Jeannie, and Welcome Back Kotter for the very first time. In Part 1 of our return visit to TV Land, we checked in on the seminal, groundbreaking Mary Tyler Moore Show — which is still fresh and funny nearly 50 years after its debut — and the horror-inspired sitcom The Munsters, which is… less so. In Part 2, our look back at Nick At Nite’s Block Party Summer continues, starting with “Lucy Tuesdays” and an appreciation of TV’s mischievous redhead goddess of physical comedy, Lucille Ball. Join us as we revisit seven beloved Nick At Nite shows to see which ones still taste just like candy, and which go down like a spoonful of Vitameatavegamin now that our TV palettes have matured. Something sordid this way comes! From the bare reaches of the dark web, or possibly a bit more within our reach, come six not-so-original tales of debauchery and debasement. Most peep shows only cost a penny...this one cost Cory and Cobi a Nickel(odeon)...and possibly their childhood. Giving a whole new meaning to the term 'Innocence Lost', we hope you enjoy our obvious discomfort! We did it for the LOLs! Below are the Wikipedia links to the original work used. THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1991) & ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES (1993) To mirth! To merriment! To manslaughter! Thanksgiving isn’t known for inspiring many movies, but the mysterious and spooky Addams clan should make you feel better about your own family’s freakishness this holiday season. In this episode we spend some quality time with Morticia, Fester, Wednesday, Thing, Cousin Itt and the rest of the gang in their big screen debut, THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1991) and its sharper sequel ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES (1993), which features a fiery ode to the first Thanksgiving feast. First, we delve into the characters' origins in a macabre New Yorker comic, then debate whether it was The Addams Family or The Munsters we watched on Nick At Nite growing up. Then we dive into the creepy plot twists, kooky soundtracks (Tag Team and MC Hammer?), and the altogether ooky performances of Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci, podcast MVP Joan Cusack, and more. So serve yourself a heaping helping of When We Were Young! (Yes, this podcast IS made from real Girl Scouts.)
