You guys all know my rules about the cover version episodes – once the folder is full it’s time for a show. This time around, it’s also perfect timing. As I was putting this week’s show together, I discovered that Trash Kickers had put out a live video of them covering “Can’t Hardly Wait” at their May album release show. Oh, yeah, I had to include that. Here’s why I love this band so much. Over the years, I’ve received dozens and dozens of press releases stating that this band or that album is reminiscent of The Replacements. They rarely are. In fact, many tracks on their debut record, Way Out Somehow sound like discarded Paul Westerberg tunes. Very good Paul Westerberg tunes, in fact. And while I was at it, another Facebook post reminded me that in 2013 Paul Westerberg had produced a band called The Silks, and on the b-side to their 7 inch had played guitar and sang on an obscure Rolling Stones song called “One More Try”. Yep, I had to pull that out of the archives. Overall, this is one of the most interesting cover shows I’ve ever put together. You have the return of […]

In last week's episode, I talked about something I call the hope wound: that quiet erosion of belief that happens after you've tried for something again and again without seeing the result you wanted. And when that wound happens, effort starts to feel pointless. Trying starts to feel exhausting. In this episode, I'm going deeper into that conversation and exploring the relationship between hope and effort. Because the truth is, we don't quit their dreams because we're lazy! We tend to quit because we start to believe our effort won't matter... because we've tried so much for so long. I share a powerful story and a new way to think about trying that completely shifted my perspective: the idea that breakthroughs rarely follow a logical timeline, and that sometimes the moment everything changes comes right after the moment you're most ready to give up. If you've been feeling discouraged, tired of trying, or quietly wondering whether the thing you want will ever work out, this episode is an invitation to reclaim hope......and maybe cast the net one more time. When you've experienced abandonment, betrayal, rejection, or long seasons of disappointment, your nervous system quietly learns: "Don't get too excited." "Don't expect too much." "Protect yourself from believing or opening your heart again." That's the Hope Wound. It's the place where your heart still wants something deeply… but your body braces for loss. In this 90-minute deep-dive, we'll gently uncover how abandonment experiences (loss of a dream, abandonment by another, a core rejection) have reshaped your relationship to hope. We'll dissolve the pattern of dimming your desire to avoid pain and rewire the subconscious belief that expecting good things makes you naive or unsafe. This session is about becoming brave enough to believe again. Because hope deferred makes a heart sick - and it's safe to get our hopes up and believe the best of the future again.
On this episode of Success is Subjective, Joanna brings you another story from our special former participant series where she extends the opportunity for former participants to share their journey with others. Today's former participant is Jaysa Brown. In this episode, Jaysa reflects on entering the mental health system at a young age, navigating multiple treatment settings that didn't always help, and the deep resistance she felt toward trying yet another program. She shares how relocating to Colorado became a turning point, the role community and support played in her healing, and how redefining success has allowed her to build a life rooted in stability, purpose, and self-trust. Now working as a mentor within the same program that helped her turn her life around, Jaysa offers an honest perspective on recovery, family dynamics, and what sustainable progress can truly look like.NOTE: The podcasts in this series can include sensitive subjects such as suicide, self-harm, substance abuse, hospitalizations, psychotic episodes, and other traumatic experiences which include parts of the treatment journey.
Sometimes, a breakthrough isnt about achieving a massive goal-- its about realizing you've been measuring progress the wrong way. Breakthroughs are moments in time where we discovered a connection between the feeling giving up and the feeling of giving it one more try. The key is to divorce the story of your limitations and marry the truth of your abilities.

The Power of Resilience: Today, we delve into a topic that resonates with every entrepreneur—the power of trying one more time. Success in entrepreneurship often hinges not on creativity or intelligence, but on perseverance and the willingness to push through when the odds are against you.My Journey: From being a cop in Oakland to venturing into digital marketing, merchant services, and automated teller machines, I've faced numerous setbacks. Each one taught me valuable lessons. The journey of an entrepreneur is never a straight line—it's filled with ups and downs, and perseverance is key.Why One More Try Matters: Every attempt, even those that fail, is a learning opportunity. Each failure builds experience and resilience. When you try one more time, you're not just repeating actions; you're applying lessons learned from previous failures. This process of refining, adjusting, and improving brings you closer to success.Maintaining Your Vision: The ability to persevere keeps your vision alive and boosts morale. My transition from law enforcement to entrepreneurship required learning new skills and changing my mindset, but it was the power of trying one more time that kept me going.Harnessing the Power of One More:Set Clear Goals: Break down your goals into smaller, actionable tasks. Each step builds on the last, helping you progress steadily.Analyze Setbacks: When faced with setbacks, analyze what went wrong and what you can do differently next time. Turn roadblocks into actionable steps.Foster a Support Network: Surround yourself with motivated individuals, mentors, peers, and online communities. They can offer support, advice, and encouragement.Take Care of Your Health: Resilience is both mental and physical. Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and sufficient rest are crucial for facing entrepreneurial challenges.

Another, week, another episode of WireTaps! Alex and Graham began the show with the usual discussion around activity on LiveWire, which now includes decision deadlines for the shorter Round 3 application cycle and some deferred enrollment interview invites. Graham then highlighted three Real Humans Alumni stories, an INSEAD grad at Accenture, a CMU / Tepper grad at Amazon and a UPenn / Wharton grad at Pfizer. Graham also mentioned a recently published admissions tip that covers scholarship negotiation. He then reminded listeners about the MBA admissions event series that Clear Admit is hosting in May, which began last Wednesday, and continues this Wednesday with Duke / Fuqua, UNC / Kenan Flagler, Emory / Goizueta, and Texas / Austin. This series offers admissions overviews from each of the programs. Event signup is here: https://bit.ly/cambaevents For this week's candidate profiles and dilemmas, Alex and Graham tackled two ApplyWire entries and one DecisionWire entry: The first featured candidate has super numbers (770, 3.68) and spent two years in a leadership development program before moving to a family business (a winery). Alex and Graham like their experience and think that they should be targeting the top programs. The one concern is their post MBA goals; Alex and Graham want to ensure the goals are relevant and plausible while also being impactful. Your hosts also discussed issues related to sourcing recommendations, and around the candidate's desire to be in Salt Lake City, post-MBA. This week's second candidate appears to have interesting work experience across four countries, including Germany. We do worry about their combination of numbers (322, 2.9); they have taken additional coursework to bolster their GPA. They have also already taken the GRE four times. There are strengths in this profile, but there are weaknesses that need mitigating. The third and final candidate this week is weighing offers from Berkeley / Haas with no scholarship and Duke / Fuqua with a large scholarship. They do want to be in the Bay Area, or Seattle, post MBA, which favors Haas, but they are not seeking tech employment. We encourage them to look closely at the Fuqua networks in those regions, and see if they think that Fuqua might work. They also love Fuqua's culture, which is an important consideration. This episode was recorded in Paris, France and Cornwall, England. It was produced and engineered by the fabulous Dennis Crowley in Philadelphia, USA. Timmy T was just a man with a moog, an 808 machine, and a broken heart. after watching this documentaries, I think George Michael was very Saint like, actually. Despite his bad boy image! Is coming out pun intended with #fastlove, after getting busted for using the g********* hahaha#Improv #comedyaf #comedy Central #variety #rollingstone #hollywoodinsider ++++++thank you, #merrickgarland for finally getting the justice department to respond to the Brianna Taylor case, which is horrific for its no knock warrant entry, reportedly fraudulently obtained! And shooting up an innocent woman, who was just f****** sleeping in her own house, when Louisville Kentucky pigs killed her and almost killed her boyfriend in a hail of bullets, like 62 bullets! Absolutely outrageous! And I have seen other reports that the homicides was part of a rash of killings by police against ordinary citizens, in conjunction with a real estate scam, to try to get rid of the owners of these properties, so they could buy them up! WTF?? Why is this s*** allowed to happen? Well we know, trump dumpy orange s***

SPOILER-FREE in the first part of this episode! Dahil alam namin na meron pa sa inyong magdo-downl--we meant, manonood pa lang. Finally! We're talking about Spider-Man: No Way Home! In this episode, pinag-usapan namin ang first time namin after two long years (na manood ng sine). Napunta rin sa ilang realizations about Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man movies. Ang tanong ni Ham: Marisa Tomei, how to be you po? We then tried to figure out the biomechanics of Tobey Maguire's organic web-shooters. We're also still wishing for an Andrew Garfield singing Spider-Man movie. And yes, Tom Holland, we can't forget about him! Movie niya 'to! Syempre we can't have a comic book movie episode without talking about the comic books! The Wedding, The Other, Civil War, One More Day, and Spider-Verse--so much Spider-Man to talk about! Also in this episode, someone brought up tertiary education and state universities and colleges. Lastly, it's not really related to Spider-Man but we do a test on Ham's voice. We'll let you be the judge! For those who are lost and unsaved won't you try again-- The Lord rewards those who diligently seek him. If you have never been satisfied with the your standing before the Lord, try again- Like Abraham, the Widow, and the Neighbor--try again until he answers you- For those who have been saved, don't give up on others--try again.

Tonight's special guest is Justin Smith from New jersey, a child abuse survivor who's found his healing through music. He calls himself "J.Mello" these days, but that wasn't always the case. In his own words, "I can't lie: my parents had money. But just because you grow up with money, doesn't mean life was all shopping malls and Tiffany and Co. China sets. Your parents can have millions in the bank, but that doesn't mean nothing if all you get for Christmas is ornament thrown at you and a Grinch for a father." He continues, "My mother and siblings knew what was going on, but as long as the credit card worked, they didn't wanna stop the Celebration. Growing up, I tried to forget about all this stuff, but it kept coming up. I lashed out a lot as a teenager - messed around with drugs, bounced in and out of juvenile homes, was homeless here and there. Hell, I even did a year and a half in jail." Justin reveals he'd "been sexually molested by nanny, handcuffed to a fence and beaten with a rock, over and over while my mother just watched. That's when the music really took over my life and I realized that [music] was my therapy. See, music's in my blood. My dad co-founded Kool and the Gang." Two of Justin's own tracks are “Torture” and “One More Try.” He concludes by asserting, "I hope to break the silence of those that have had similar experiences and let my album be an outlet for those who went through what I went through!"
