TBOL ch 13It's time for Benjamin to triple-down on his awfulness. This time, he relishes in terrorizing Miriam to the point of her chanting prayers while in distress. No fear, Miriam. Chris will save the day! Maybe. In the meantime, Matthew tries to keep his cool, while Diana walks a tightrope between quelling Matthew's protectiveness, and trying to make us feel comfortable with Chris's. Neither is working. This episode continues the theme of our Chris dislike, but there were good conversations to be had, as far as breaking down the "why". Thanks for sticking with us through the last episode, and take our advice: Don't put too much stock in our feelings and opinions, we offer them as ideas to think about. It's your impression/opinion that matters when it comes to interpreting the chapters for your rereads.Full show notes: go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/82In this episode:By the segment . . .(00:15) Intro/Patreon sponsorship(02:14) Discusser emails/Speakpipe - Thank you Marclyn, Flori and Chloe(07:27) Main discussion - Chapter 13 of The Book of Life - sponsored by Catherine Brown.(1:10:22) Housekeeping - Thank you listeners for your reviews, Zoe, and Constance — sponsored by Wendy Taylor(1:18:04) Save It For the Show - What to do during the slow times - Sponsored by Aimee Green(1:30:02) Promo break - scroll down, or click here to get a hold of us and/or become a Discusser -- information on joining our Facebook group also located on that page. TBOL ch 12Our reentry into the chapter universe lands us at the Bishop House on Diana's Birthday. Happy Birthday Diana! You get a d*ck in a box, and a reunion with your BFF, Chris! Wait, what?! That's right. He's the BFF because The Book of Life says so! His acceptance of creaturedom is admirable, and who wouldn't want a wingman to tell her that the dude that she's married and having kids with is an a$$hole?! Perfection! If you sense a little sarcasm, gold stars; it's a good thing we didn't have a podcast in 2014 because time has certainly tamped down this chapter review. Chris fans, hang in there, and allow us to explain ourselves. Take what we say with a grain of salt, and feel free to laugh at us for our inability to turn off our brains and just enjoy the chapter; it'll serve us right! Enjoy, guys . . . and disagreement leads to conversation; we'll keep our ears perked for the phantom yelling in the ether!Full show notes: go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/81In this episode:By the segment . . .(00:15) Intro/Patreon sponsorship(03:39) Discusser emails/Speakpipe - Thank you, Margie, Flori and Marclyn!(11:12) Main discussion - Ch 12 of The Book of Life - sponsored by Shani McNair(53:57) Housekeeping - A continuation of Discusser emails. S2E10Jean calls this episode a prologue to Season 3, and it is, but it does manage to tie up Season 2 sufficiently enough for us. We say goodbye to Goody, the coven, Susanna, Father Hubbard, Pierre, Françoise, Jack (!), and Gallowglass in 1591. AND there is the "Hello/Goodbye" to Diana's Dad, Stephen Proctor!Meanwhile, we are getting a glimpse of what the couple will be greeted with when they return to their modern lives - Ysabeau, Marcus, Miriam, Sarah, Emily, Nathaniel, Sophie, Agatha, and Phoebe examine the problems they are facing, and ponder possible solutions going forward. Gerbert and Domenico are fighting for their own power in destructive ways. Peter (we have a few choice words to say about him) is planning a solo raid on Sept-Tours. Satu -- well, she offered her help. It's not her fault that Peter is too stubborn to accept it! Come to the good side, Satu! And then there is Herr Fuchs ... aka Benjamin (!!!)This episode runs long because we had a lot to discuss in the Spoiler Zone. Those of you who enter it, you'll understand why! Thanks to all of our NEW Patrons for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy.Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E10Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! S2E9Where shall we begin? Let's start at the end: Heart vein! Kit and Louisa's botched revenge! Queen Elizabeth I! Walter Raleigh shows himself to be useless! A house raid! Meeting a weaver's familiar! William Cecil (Lord Burghley) is an an a$$hole! Kit tests Matthew's patience! A baby?!! Is Goody is on death's door?! Matthew puts his foot down! Ashmole 782! Needless to say, many events occurred in this episode, and putting a neat synopsis together was a little hard this time around. No worries, we break it down further in The Spoiler Zone (for those who don't care about book spoilers), as this TV episode diverges from the book quite a bit! Thanks to Aimee Sund for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy.Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E9Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! So, let's go back to the future to try to get some news from the home-front.Emily is still calling up the dead, Sarah busts her, and is rather pissed about it. Ysabeau scraps some more with Gerbert, while him and Peter are still scheming to rule the world. Baldwin and Marcus can't see eye-to-eye, so Marcus goes one way, Baldwin seemingly goes another! Phoebe decides Marcus' story is worth knowing, so we get to observe a proper courtship! And to top it all, Margaret decides to join us on this earth, and with that, the attention of the Congregation becomes an issue. *INTRIGUE!*Thanks to Jennifer Wood for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy...Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E8Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! S2E7After departing France, Sept-Tours, and Philippe de Clermont, we feel road-weary -- but the initial reason for this trip was to go to Bohemia and retrieve Edward Kelley and Ashmole 782. The Queen DID give her orders, so off we go.We are met with a ruler who encompasses all of the deadly sins, Emperor Rudolf II. The machinations involved to soothe his cravings and get what Diana and Matthew need are draining, but our star-crossed lovers seem to believe it's worth it. Is it? Maybe. Probably. Anyway, that's what episode 7 of A Discovery of Witches is about, and our episode 7 review attempts to slog through all of the troublesome trials and tribulations with the Bishop-Clairmonts.Thanks to Kristen Shuck for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy...Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E7Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! S2E6Philippe de Clermont doesn't suffer fools lightly. Right now, he's got a couple of fools to deal with in his own house: Diana and Matthew ... yeah, we said it! We play the empathy game, put ourselves in Philippe's shoes, and see that these two star-crossed lovers are gonna make a mess if they don't alter their course soon! Like a weaver, Philippe's got a whole bunch of knots to tie. Diana's loyalty: check. An epic sword fight to lower the temperature: check. Matthew dealing with his blood rage: check. A witch added as an official part of the family: check. A wedding: check. A party? CHECK! Also, consummation ... CHECK. Done and dusted! Daemons crying like babies? Also check. Thanks to Debbie Hopper for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy...Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E6Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! S2E5As we make the long hard journey to France (while "roughing" it), Diana receives a lot of advice along the way on how to manage Philippe. Matthew's advice sort of fell flat for us, because he's still the difficult stubborn vampire we've all come to know and love. The correct answer -- of course -- is that no one manages Philippe. Also, side-saddles? BOO!This is the part of the show where Philippe demonstrates that he has a pretty good read on the larger situation, and what the couple faces. His awareness and quiet repudiations will eventually put the couple in their place, and (maybe? We can hope) forces them to see things how he does. Thanks to Darlene Cothran for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy...Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E5Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! S2E4We travel back to the future to visit with Marcus, Ysabeau, Sarah, Emily, Nathaniel and Sophie! With the good, we get the bad ... we spy a Gerbert, a Peter, and a Domenico! We also get to meet Phoebe, who is new to us in this series, but we should probably pay attention to her, because she has a vital role in Marcus's future; reading the books is NOT necessary for this observation to occur! Anyone paying attention will be able to tell that she's about to become a permanent fixture in the series. In this episode, we are offered a sample of the forces that wait patiently for Diana and Matthew's return. Potential for more trouble? S2E3There is so much happening in this episode! Our bargain basement Philippe (Father Hubbard), accepts Matthew's confession and plea for forgiveness -- and Father Hubbard is willing to take it (with the offer of a good word to Philippe). Diana visits Mary Sidney in her lab, and learns that there may be a path to the book that both her and Matthew seek! Where does this path lead? It leads to John Dee and his vast library. As we follow this long and winding path with Diana and Matthew in the past (which eventually leads to our introduction to QE1 & Gallowglass), we must remember that in present-day things are continuing to happen in our timey-wimey sh*tstorm! We visit Domenico, Gerbert and Emily to see what they are up to, and what that adds to the larger story. Thanks to Samantha Reaves for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy...Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E3Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! S2E2Our adventures continue! Our present day matriarchs are concerned about our witch and vampire. Did they make it? And back in time, Matthew's past is both a help and a hindrance to their cause. Mary Sidney? Helpful ... maybe? Father Hubbard, hindrance, definitely(!) ... probably(?) As viewers, do we even really know at this point?! Susanna and Goody definitely seem helpful, so we can hang on to that as a tentative fact . . .Anyway, we fall deep into medieval intrigue. Diana's powers, though potent, they remain perplexing! Matthew's past is definitely darker in the viewer's eyes, and perhaps even darker than he remembered. In the end, through Matthew's anxiety (brought out by Cecil and Hubbard; 'he's gonna tell my Dad!'), we are left wondering about the patriarch of the de Clermont family: Philippe. What does he have Matthew doing for him in Tudor England? Thanks to Michelle Gutierrez for sponsoring this episode, and to all, please enjoy.Full show notes: http://go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/S2E2Informational links:Season 2 Shout Out! -- tell us your thoughts on this episode, the actors, the sets, or the series as a whole! S2E1And off we go into 1590! Diana and Matthew make quite a splash into London! Their main mission: Find a teacher, and get Ashmole 782. In/out, and back to present time, right?! Yeah. No. There a few obstacles (real or perceived) that the duo must deal with. First, Kit -- he's not buying the fact that his BFF Matthew would take on a witch for a wife. Second, Matthew. He kind of forgot what it was he was actually doing and where he was doing it on this date in 1590 (spying, squirreling around, torturing er ... interrogating). Third, there's the matter of finding a teacher for Diana. Oh! And let's not forget that there's a menacing guy that Matthew works for, William Cecil aka Lord Burghley. We loved that we got to meet our book faves, Kit, Henry, Walter, Pierre, Françoise, and Jack. And poor Diana! Just like Matthew, she's always up for a bad choice; it wouldn't be much of a story, otherwise. There's so much more, but we have it covered in the audio. TBOL ch 11Now that Diana, Matthew, Sarah, and Fernando have settled into life in the House, a comfortable routine has been established. Through a little Fernado story-time, we learn a little more about Fernando's life with Hugh and Gallowglass. We observe how Sarah's garden plays a major role in her work as a witch. We witness what an advocate the House is for Sarah's well being (it has a funny way of showing it!) All appears to be well, until Diana discovers the crossroads on her aunt's property. Voices of the dead, the pull of the moon, and the dark powers that beckon her -- all of these things frighten Diana to her core. The real scary part is the epiphany that she actually wants the knowledge/power, and believes that Matthew will hate her for it. And there is that little secret about a bargain made with the Goddess two books ago . . .See full show notes: go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/79Join us on Patreon (as little as $2 monthly will gain you access to extra episodes + different level incentives for those who join at higher tiers!)A Discovery of Witches TV News info (Continually updated; scenes, sets, trailer video, official photographs, casting + more)Become a Discusser (contact info located there as well)Email us directly: DaemonsDiscuss@gmail.comCall & Leave a voicemail! 1 (360) 519-7836 or hit us up on SpeakPipe Our Podcast Page: DaemonsDiscuss.com Our Main Site: DaemonsDomain.com Social Media: Twitter - @DaemonsDiscuss, Facebook - Daemons Discuss & Instagram - @daemonsdiscussTo join our private, listener-only Facebook group, apply here: Join Daemonic Discussers The "word" is "F*cking Firedrake"To see/hear all of our chapter reviews, check out this list: Chapter Review EpisodesTV show reviews? TBOL ch 10To put it simply, we LOVE this chapter. This is the first time we get a glimpse of Sarah and Diana actually working together on magic. It was all so peaceful until the radio decided to suggest a playlist familiar to most of us born prior to 1985, and -- now -- GenZ, who through TikTok, have found an entirely new catalog of music to explore. TBOL Ch 9After everyone's apparent survival of the --now famous-- Lugnasidah party, the local coven witches who have been invited into Matthew and Diana's lives, suddenly get way more involved than anyone intended! This was the result of Diana's inadvertent burst of magic used to save young Grace's life. Suddenly, everything that Diana was saving to reveal only to Sarah is out in the open TO EVERYONE! TBOL Ch 8Instead of beating himself up, Matthew has taken to beating posts into the ground with the guise of repairing Sarah's failing fence. Well, we all know that our Matthew's got some issues! And if he doesn't beat himself up enough, Fernando is there to assist. Fernando knows him pretty well though, so he suggests Matthew take up the science-y stuff concerning his and Diana's genetics to occupy his mind. Miriam breaks in to inject her own 2 cents (she speaks for us!), and this chapter winds down with a visit from "bulldozer" Vivian Harrison. We enjoyed recording this chapter, we hope you enjoy listening to it! TBOL ch 6It's time for a formal dinner! Fun, right? Let's answer this question as Lady Daemons: "Nah, Bruh." It's the 18th Century. Britain is deep at war with France (probably) and Londoners are getting slaughtered on a ‘throat-searing, eye-reddening, vomit-churning hell broth' of fermented juniper berries and sulphuric acid. In what powder-faced, big-wigged, coffee house creeping Georgians are already calling the 40th episode of the CB Wallop Podcast join Phil Jerrod and Phil Lucas as they discuss The London Gin Craze - the unaccountable popularity of a beverage so strong it caused birth defects, blindness, and in some extreme cases, actual infantacide. Fancy sucking down a triple Beefeater from the Puss-and-Mew machine tonight? No... no thanks. Trigger warning. This one's all about the problems of drinking too much - but don't worry - there's nothing on the market these days that comes close to the horrors of 18th Century homebrew - unless you're drinking out of your lawnmower that is. There is a bit of child murder in this one, and a little bit of nasty childhood illness - but mostly it's underprivileged Georgians having a right old knees up. TBOL ch 4Through a series of tussles (verbal/physical) between the head of the de Clermont family and the Grand Master of the Knights of Lazarus, we finally learn who in the family actually holds that elusive seat on the Congregation, and where the HQ is located -- REVELATION! As we go, these chapters continue to be dense with information, so naturally the episodes are longer! Take it in bites, or gobble the whole thing! P.S. Character Study - A personality episodeWe're "on the tens" once again, and it's time for a character study! We thought that this would be an excellent way of handling the subject this go-around. We're revisiting our personality episode from way back when (2016), and doing a updated version; Personality 2.0, if you will. When you hear our process, you'll understand the title very well. It's pseudo science at its righteous best! We will be studying Kit, Susanna, Ransome, Fernando, Vivian, Andrew and closing out with Miriam as the headliner. We hope you enjoy listening, as much as we did recording it!See full show notes: go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/70Join us on Patreon (as little as $2 monthly will gain you access to extra episodes + different level incentives for those who join at higher tiers!)A Discovery of Witches TV News info (Continually updated; scenes, sets, trailer video, official photographs, casting + more)Become a Discusser (contact info located there as well)Email us directly: DaemonsDiscuss@gmail.comCall & Leave a voicemail! TBOL ch 2A restless Matthew Clairmont makes the rounds and pays a few castle calls to the current residents of Sept-Tours. He's on edge, and his friends and family -- rightly -- welcome him back with wary caution. In the end, it takes Diana to bring him to his center (as he does for her). BUT, there's one family member who wonders out loud (to say the least) why Diana Bishop is harboring the blood song of his long-dead father, Philippe de Clermont. Like Matthew, the Daemons are also restless souls in this pandemic, so they take the opportunity to talk A LOT, thus, the lengthy episode! Take it in shifts, or binge it at once! No judgement! TBOL ch1We've dusted off our copies of The Book of Life, opened it to chapter 1, and now we realize how much information this chapter actually contains! Not only do we get a glimpse of what has been going on in Sept-Tours while we were gone, but we get to see the events through different eyes, which paints a larger, more precise picture for us to study. New beginnings, indeed! Take this one in shifts, or power through the whole episode. SON Ch 41 & 42We ride along with Diana and Matthew as they navigate their way back to their present, ready to face the future. We also get a little glimpse back at the 16th Century with our old friends, Andrew and Annie. AND we visit with Will, and get his side of the story. Either way, we are HOME. In order to get ready for The Book of Life, listeners, our next episode will be a look back at Shadow of Night, and a glance forward to The Book of Life.See full show notes: go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/67Join us on Patreon (as little as $2 monthly will gain you access to extra episodes + different level incentives for those who join at higher tiers!)A Discovery of Witches TV News info (Continually updated; scenes, sets, trailer video, official photographs, casting + more)Become a Discusser (contact info located there as well)Email us directly: DaemonsDiscuss@gmail.comCall & Leave a voicemail! SON ch 40Well, it seems we made it to 2010 even before Diana and Matthew did! We see what Marcus, Ysabeau and Sarah are all up to, and get a few revelations that will shock people on their first read, and continue to pain the rest of us as we all witness the various forms of lovesickness infecting Sept-Tours. There's also the pressing matter of Diana sending a message to the world 400 + years in the future via an Elizabethan mathematician/astronomer + a Huguenot clockmaker.See full show notes: go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/66Join us on Patreon (as little as $2 monthly will gain you access to extra episodes + different level incentives for those who join at higher tiers!)A Discovery of Witches TV News info (Continually updated; scenes, sets, trailer video, official photographs, casting + more)Become a Discusser (contact info located there as well)Email us directly: DaemonsDiscuss@gmail.comCall & Leave a voicemail! SON ch 38"Parting is such sweet sorrow." Scratch that! Goodbyes flat-out suck! And that's what Diana has to deal with in this chapter; saying goodbye to her father -- although technically, not really -- but we get it. The fact that these two will never meet each other again (or WILL they?!) is not lost on us. At least there was a date night with Matthew to sweeten things up (sigh). In the end, Diana's OK, and we survive. Our All Souls lives are much sweeter having met Stephen Proctor - Dorky Dad, observant guest, wise man, kind and forgiving father. Thanks in advance for tolerating Val's audio (she's just going to blame Jerry and move on)! SON ch 37Earlier in this book, we did this with Matthew and Philippe in the hay barn. Now it's Diana's turn to get a low-key beat-down from her father, and learn how to face her fears. Even though there are no swords involved, Stephen methodically helps her prepare for the big return to the future. With the help of Stephen, Goody and the girls, Diana realize her gifts are tools for her to use -- because let's face it . . . she's going to need it! This is one of our longer episodes, so strap yourself in! Also prepare to get out and help push the wagon out of the ditch -- only a couple of times! OK, maybe more than that? SON ch 36With an urgent need to save her tormentors from Matthew's wrath, Diana finds herself guided by Father Hubbard to Bedlam. This dark, dank space for unwanted creatures is where Matthew ultimately decided to interrogate and torture Christopher Marlowe and Louisa de Clermont. Matthew is eventually talked down from the tree, deals are made, and they go on with life with the understanding that it's time to go back to their present -- BUT -- not just yet, Ms. Bishop! Shadow of Night is decidedly about the fathers. It's time to face hers.See full show notes: go.DaemonsDiscuss.com/62Join us on Patreon (as little as $2 monthly will gain you access to extra episodes + different level incentives for those who join at higher tiers!)A Discovery of Witches TV News info (Continually updated; scenes, sets, trailer video, official photographs, casting + more)Become a Discusser (contact info located there as well), or for US listeners: text ADOW to 444999Email us directly: DaemonsDiscuss@gmail.comCall & Leave a voicemail! SON ch 35Diana finds herself tied up, and negotiating with two creatures who have decided they hate her and want her gone. When we open this chapter, it's hard to say how she'll wriggle herself out of this mess. As we saw in A Discovery of Witches, in the oubliette scene, a flash to her past brings clarity to who she is and what she's capable of. SON ch 33 & 34In this double feature episode covering two chapters of Shadow of Night, we look at the dangerous creatures in and around Diana Bishop & Matthew Clairmont's lives. First, we are confronted with the anomaly that has gotten away from the de Clermonts, and landed into the hands of Peter Knox (and Gerbert!); poor Pavel! Second, we are launched back to Tudor England, to manage the temper-ridden monarch, and meet Matthew's legendary sister, Louisa de Clermont. She's using our resident love-sick, unstable, drugged-out, tale-telling, finger-pointing daemon as her guide. SON ch 32After getting out of that disastrous dinner with Rudolf, Diana and Matthew reflect on what they saw/thought/smelled from Ashmole 782. Gallowglass is doing his best to get them to break it down for to him as if he were a medieval vampire. They determine that they have break into the castle, and steal the book, and then beat feet out of Prague. But how? It seems Jack has and is the key to bust in, get the book, and get the f*ck out of there! A short, but great chapter! SON ch 31The day in/day out of Emperor Rudolf's Prague is wearing on us, however we couldn't have asked for a more satisfactory "goodbye" than this chapter! SON ch 30Gifts, Noblety™, hunting (in 1591, and in present-day), suspicion, submission, reverence, and BENJAMIN?! Yeah, this was a trip. Buckle up, because we may lose a hubcap, or four! We watch Matthew attempt to handle the current females in his life; with Šárka he has some success, not so much with Corra, and the jury has been out with Diana. We offer sage advice to any vampire out there with a witch wife: If she has a firedrake, don't piss her off.
