YES!! SHE DID!! - - - Imagine naturally conceiving and carrying twins in your 50s!   The fabulous Birgitta Lauren joins host Jamie Belz on this episode of the Nutritional Therapy and Wellness Podcast to discuss wellness concepts rooted in Birgitta's lifelong, disciplined commitment to health and her passion for promoting, defending, and protecting fertility, pregnancy, and babies.   Birgitta Lauren is a Holistic Fertility Coach with over 30 years of experience in the fitness, nutrition, and fertility field. She is the author of Expecting Fitness: How to Modify and Enjoy Your Exercise Program Throughout Your Pregnancy, a nutritional formulator, prenatal fitness trainer, nutrition coach, speaker, and exercise inventor. She has also served in many leadership positions, including as the former President of SWEA (Swedish Women's Educational Association), board member of March of Dimes LA & OC, the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition in Washington, D.C., and currently serves on the Board of Governors for the National Health Federation.   In this eye-opening and deeply inspiring episode, Birgitta walks us through her journey of becoming pregnant at 53 and giving birth to incredibly healthy 8-pound twin girls—validating decades of holistic living, clean nutrition, and intentional movement. She shares about her work in prenatal fitness and nutrition and details many aspects of her lifelong dedication to wellness, which began after the premature death of her beloved grandmother when Birgitta was just a 12-year-old girl in Stockholm.   From the cultural differences in child-rearing between Sweden and the U.S. to the rise of infertility linked to toxins, EMFs, and lifestyle factors, this conversation is packed with wisdom and practical takeaways for women at any stage of life.   You'll learn: Why fertility is more about health status than age. How movement and detoxification prepare the body for pregnancy. The truth about organic food, chemicals, and the health of future generations. Why fathers' health matters just as much—and sometimes more—at conception. How Birgitta overcame industry myths and built a legacy of healthy moms and babies. Whether you're planning for pregnancy, supporting others, or simply looking to optimize your health and vitality, this episode will challenge what you think is possible—and offer hope rooted in truth.   Links & Resources: Birgitta's Website: ExpectingFitness.com Book: Expecting Fitness Contact Birgitta: lauren@expectingfitness.com  IG: @expectingfitness Telegram: @heathybaby Truth: @healthybaby YT: @expectingfitness X: expectingfitness FB: @healthybaby2 and @expectingfitness www.nutritionaltherapy.com   Please hit SUBSCRIBE and leave us reviews! Deadmau5 makes his first appearance as a primary character not much later in season one, while his human counterpart Joel is mentioned midseason just a few episodes earlier; this episode holds the seasons's record for number of downloads for a singular episode. Trump Sends Marjorie Taylor Greene To Attack Vice President Harris

Donald Trump is growing increasingly scared that President Biden will drop out of the race and be replaced by Vice President Kamala Harris, so he's sending out his goon squad to viciously attack the Vice President. Greene launched a disgusting and completely unsubstantiated attack on Harris on social media, and she didn't fool anyone because everyone understood EXACTLY what Greene was really up to. Also, social media influencers are encouraging users to report Project 2025 and the Heritage Foundation to the IRS for alleged violations of their tax-exempt status. The organization is actually forbidden, under tax law, from engaging in direct political activity that could benefit a specific party or candidate, and it is fairly obvious that Project 2025 is exactly that. The document mentions Trump by name more than 200 times, and there appears to be direct contact between the two groups. And Lauren Boebert received a speeding ticket on Mother's Day of this year for going nearly 20 miles per hour over the speed limit. She DID pay her ticket, but she paid it after the deadline, and she now faces a court hearing later this month to determine any additional punishments. Boebert just can't help herself at this point, and legal violations have just become a regular part of her life - and the life of her whole family. Finally, a new analysis of the money flowing into Trump's golf resorts has found that conservative groups looking to suck up to Trump have paid more than $4 million in just the first quarter of this year to hold events at his resorts. This isn't because the food or locations are great - it is all about making sure that Trump knows that these people are giving him money so that they can be rewarded down the line.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalanced/Twitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=en

The circumstance behind Donna's encounter are too frightening for most kids to handle.Tonight's guest, Donna Hough, has been having paranormal experiences for as long as she can remember. They stretch all the way back into her early childhood. Due to having so many experiences with the paranormal, she'd become almost indifferent to them. While it's true that disembodied voices and unseen entities touching someone would send most people running away, in sheer terror, that's not the case with Donna. You see, when she has experiences, like that, she rolls over and goes back to sleep. She DID have an experience, in the year 2000, however, that terrified her to her core. In fact, it frightened her so much that, for years, she struggled to come to terms with it. If you listen to her share the details of her experience, I'm pretty sure you'll understand why. After all, the only thing worse than having a Werewolf staring you, in your face, is having one reaching out for you, from behind, inside your home.  Premium memberships are now available! In fact, she turned it around and leveraged it instead.    You may say it fuels what she does.    It's easy to think you're on the downhill slide. You're enjoying an easier life, an empty nest, a little more disposable income. But are you really passionate about your daily life? Are you looking forward to things on your calendar both near and far off? Do you have goals that make you both a little nervous and excited?    For the past 20 years of my 40 year career I've been serving as a coach for many of my clients in addition to supporting the wellness and fitness goals they have. I was 18 years into my career juggling exercise psychology with physiology but there was often more. We humans can sometimes put up obstacles to getting the things we say we want, as a way of self-preservation. We protect ourselves from the risk of change. And there we stay stuck unless someone like a coach calls BS for you.  I think you'll agree today's guest shares and lives much of this is her everyday actions.  My Guest:   Christine Conti believes in the “YES. YOU CAN” mindset. Christine is an international fitness educator chronic disease wellness specialist, and the recipient of the IDEA World 2023 Fitness Professional of the Year. Questions We Answer in This Episode:  You're a woman in midlife, you've had some health obstacles but leveraged them and turned them into assets, and you're doing some “big reach” things, talk about that! This episode features singer and saxophonist Lora Logic and it's a wild story. It actually begins with her mother's escape from her rural Finnish farm upbringing. It shaped how she raised Lora. But it was that farm where Lora felt most happy. She talks about going through several instruments before she fell in love with the sax. And then there's her creepy sax teacher who made her really uncomfortable but pushed her into busking and improvising. She joined X-Ray Spex but was canned before the first album was released.  She released the first Essential Logic single and that is QUITE a story! After living the rock and roll lifestyle, having an epileptic fit, and having an out of body experience, she left music completely. Well, not exactly. She DID perform with the band Juggernaut after becoming a Hare Krishna.  Her return to music has been one of reformation. Initially with X-Ray Spex and then Essential Logic. She's released a box set of EVERYTHING she's ever done! You can't get more comprehensive than that. She's also released a wonderful new Essential Logic album called Land Of Kali. Jesus' ministry on earth expanded as He appointed 72 followers to prepare the path ahead of Him. As we examine Jesus' instructions to the 72, let's prayerfully seek His lessons for us today. (Luke 10:1-16) **** Welcome to Walking in the Word, the biblical teaching arm of the Women World Leaders podcast. My name is Julie Jenkins, and I'm honored that you have chosen to listen today and pray that as we open God's Word together, He will infuse you with insight and joy. If you are new to Women World Leaders, I invite you to check out our website, www.womenworldleaders.com. We are a ministry on mission to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and empower you to walk in your God-given purpose. Everything we do is geared toward those two aims. When visionary and founder Kimberly Hobbs started this ministry in her living room four years ago, she never dreamed that we would be podcasting three times a week, creating a quarterly magazine, or publishing books to showcase God's glory. She DID, however, foresee us reaching the world – and today, we reach over 60 countries. If you would like to jump in deeper, we'd love to help you grow and serve in your specific gifting. A great place to start is to attend our monthly Zoom leadership meeting on the third Monday of the month at 7pm ET. Our next meeting is on October 17th. You can receive the link by signing up at womenworldleaders.com. And just a reminder – the deadline to subscribe to Voice of Truth magazine before the next edition comes out is quickly approaching. Voice of Truth is still free digitally, but to receive the magazine physically in your mailbox, we are asking that you become a regular monthly donor. Your regular monthly donation of any amount will allow us to budget for the ministry AND pay for or offset the cost of producing and publishing Voice of Truth. So don't forget to go to our website, click on the donate tab, and register to give a recurring monthly tax-deductible gift. We so appreciate you and the way you are all pitching in. Your gifts enable us to continue providing quality content to help you grow in your God-given purpose! Let's get to today's teaching! If you are familiar with this, the Wednesday edition of our podcast, you likely know we are currently walking through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John – looking at the life of Jesus chronologically as the Holy Spirit guides us. Today's reading takes us to the book of Luke, chapter 10, verses 1-16. Before we begin, let's pray… Dear Most Holy God – we give you this day and we give you these next few minutes. Father, we ask you to guide us through this teaching that Luke wrote so many years ago. God, we thank you for the education and the divine wisdom you infused into Luke, allowing him to write the words we will study today. We thank you for preserving your Word for us. And we thank you for the translators you spoke to as they carefully put these words into the English language. God, you have already ordained, overseen, and coordinated so much just so we can open our Bibles today and hear from you, and we don't want to ever take any of that for granted. The least we can do, God, is give you our undivided attention as we study this glorious gift you have provided us. So it is with great expectation and joy that we open your Word, and it is with great confidence and faith that we ask you to speak directly to us. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen. Today we move from Jesus' teaching in Jerusalem to the preparation for His return to His teaching tour, so-to-speak. Yes…Jesus went on a teaching tour. Although God calls us to come to Him, He will go to great lengths to meet US where WE are. I've heard it said that if there are 100 steps between you and God, you can count on Him to take 99, but you have to take at least one. So Jesus was preparing to take the 99 steps toward those who did not come to Jerusalem for the Festival of Tabernacles. But since, as He was fully human, He could only be in one place at one time, He sent a group of His followers before Him to prepare the hearts of those He would meet. Let's begin in Luke 10:1 from the New Living Translation… 10 The Lord now chose seventy-two[a] other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit. 2 These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields. 3 Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves. 4 Don't take any money with you, nor a traveler's bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. And don't stop to greet anyone on the road. Do you see that Jesus is empowering His disciples to walk in their God-given purpose?? I just noted that Jesus was fully human and could only be in one place at one time, and that's correct. But Jesus was also fully God – and God can do whatever He wants to do! But God CHOSE to use humans – sinful, messed up, unqualified humans – to prepare the way for Jesus to enter the hearts of others. I don't know about you – but that makes me feel pretty good! In fact, it kind of makes me awe-struck. It can be easy to think, in our Christian walk, that we are not good enough or qualified enough to serve our almighty God, let alone serve other people! I felt called to be a leader for Christ from the time I was very young. But I grew up the youngest of seven children. And as the youngest of seven children, it can be hard to seen or recognized. My place became hanging out in the background, allowing everyone else to have center stage, because, in my heart of hearts, I felt like I was not as important as everyone else around me. I still carry some of that, but through the years, God has empowered me by assuring me of my importance in His sight, and by reminding me that He created ME on purpose, for a purpose. Dear Friend! You were created ON PURPOSE for a purpose! And we ALL, as believers in Jesus Christ, have the purpose of sharing the glorious news of Jesus Christ with others! Just yesterday, I was in a meeting with some leaders in our ministry, and one of our leaders said, “I used to be the person that was being led and poured into, and now I find that I am the one leading and pouring into others.” THAT is what the Christian community is about! It is about rising to our God-given purpose, and then empowering others to rise to theirs. That is what Jesus was doing – He was elevating those 72 individuals He called to go before Him to share His name. And just listen to the instructions He gave them… First, Jesus told them where to go and that they wouldn't be alone. Oh, I don't mean that God was with them. Of course, He WAS, but Jesus also partnered them up and sent them out two by two! Isn't that just like God to give us people we can do ministry together with?? If you don't have someone to work with in ministry in this season of your life, will you ask God to send you someone? And then, will you partner up? That can be the hard part!! Because we are selfish, willful human beings, and sometimes, we would rather work by ourselves. But trust me, we all need someone to hold us up and hold us accountable to all that God has called us to. So first…Jesus told them where to go and who to go with. The second instruction was to PRAY for others to join in the work! In ministry, the work sometimes seems to multiply as God brings more and more to do! But God never intended for ANY of us to do it all and certainly not for us to do it alone! His plan is for us to work together. That might mean that YOU, like the leader I mentioned above, will be tasked with leading and encouraging others! Now, that's exciting!! Next, Jesus instructed them to expect issues…saying… remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves. When we go for God, we should EXPECT opposition. Remember, Satan rules this world, so we are in enemy territory. BUT, God promised HIS provision, saying… Don't take any money with you, nor a traveler's bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. And don't stop to greet anyone on the road. In other words, they were to walk in obedience, fully trusting God's path. And Jesus told them not to greet anyone on the way because their destination was to be their focus. It can be easy, when God calls us on a mission, to get sidetracked. Let's read further and see what Jesus' next instructions to the 72 were…verse 5… 5 “Whenever you enter someone's home, first say, ‘May God's peace be on this house.' 6 If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you. 7 Don't move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay. It is always our responsibility, as Christians, to declare God's peace over an environment or situation. And we can be assured that if hearts are open to Jesus, the peace will remain and grow. And if the hearts are NOT receptive, the blessing of peace we declare on others will return to us. Isn't that a freeing thought? We don't have to force peace on a situation. Ever. We offer it, and if we are turned away, we keep the peace in our own hearts, despite what is going on around us or elsewhere. Jesus also told the 72 to be patient and stay in one place. They were to not cause confusion in the community but remain where God sends them, accepting His provision. This is a word for us, of course. We can always trust God's leading. Verse 8 continues… 8 “If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. 9 Heal the sick, and tell them, ‘The Kingdom of God is near you now.'  The 72 were given God's power to heal for the same reason Jesus healed – to showcase God's glory and turn people toward Jesus. Verse 10… 10 But if a town refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this—the Kingdom of God is near!'  God stands with open arms – welcoming all to become His children. And He sends those children to proclaim to others that they, too, are being called into the Father's arms. What a GREAT purpose we all have!! But not all will listen to God or to us. In fact, MOST will not listen, but it is still our duty to speak! To share what we know. But when we are not welcome, God gives us the permission to walk away…to shake the dust from our feet. Some people are surrounded by such a thick wall of unbelief and distrust – it's as if layers have grown up around them. Imagine, if you will, that each Christian who approaches an unbeliever has the power to remove someone's outer layer of unbelief. If we obediently remove just that top layer in 10,000 people in our lifetime, that's 10,000 layers! If we all walk in obedience, God will use us ALL to strip off those layers, and together and with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can wear out the devil and destroy his purposes. And yet…here's the warning…some will consistently refuse to see the power of Jesus and accept His life-giving salvation. To that, Jesus says, beginning in verse 12… 12 I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day. 13 “What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have repented of their sins long ago, clothing themselves in burlap and throwing ashes on their heads to show their remorse. 14 Yes, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on judgment day than you. 15 And you people of Capernaum, will you be honored in heaven? No, you will go down to the place of the dead.[b]” 16 Then he said to the disciples, “Anyone who accepts your message is also accepting me. And anyone who rejects you is rejecting me. And anyone who rejects me is rejecting God, who sent me.” God is rejected by many. Jesus is rejected by many. So we shouldn't beat ourselves up when we are rejected just because we bring the message of joy and peace on behalf of Jesus Christ. I don't know where God is calling you to walk. I don't know what enemy territory He is leading you into, but I want to encourage you to stand strong for Him. Partner up with someone – we'd love to partner with you at Women World Leaders. Pray that as the work increases, God will send more people to work with you on His behalf. Walk purposefully and with urgency to your destination, expecting opposition. Be the first to reach out with the peace of God and remain where God has placed you until He calls you elsewhere. If His peace is not received, don't take it personally, but move on, trusting you have made a difference even if you can't see it. And finally, showcase God's glory with whatever gifting God has given you. Next week, we get to see the return of the 72, and I think you will be amazed. But this week, will you commit to being God's servant? Will you go where He leads you today? I can assure you if you do, you will have a story to tell as we check back in on the 72 next week! Let's pray… Dear Most Holy God! Yes…we will go for you!! We will walk obediently and with urgency where you lead us. We will offer others YOUR peace by your power alone. We just need you to show us where to go and how long to remain, and we trust that your power will rain down on us. We give you this week, dear God, and we trust you to go with us always. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

In today's episode I talk to Kristy McCammon, founder of Life Unbinged. Most of Kristy's life was spent being overweight and food obsessed. Unfortunately, food became her friend and comfort at a very young age. This set up a lifetime of dependence on food for every emotion; sadness, joy, fear, excitement, happiness, anger, boredom, chaos – you name the emotion and food was the answer. She was in a battle with food daily. She was either white knuckling her way to stay out of the food or was overeating and bingeing – there was no in between. No matter what she tried, she simply could not let go of sugar and flour laden junk food. It had truly become a stronghold in her life that kept her enslaved to food. The idea of moderation always sounded ideal – just one piece, just one bowl, just one slice, just one….. that never worked for her. Once she had JUST ONE, her brain was actively demanding more. She was in a place of desperation and her weight was the highest it had ever been. She had an amazing husband of 25 years who loved her unconditionally, 5 amazing children, plenty of wonderful friends and family, and a loving relationship with God – truly a life that she loved, yet she could not get her relationship with food under control. She often prayed for God to deliver her from food addiction and take away all cravings for unhealthy food. She tried every diet and plan available. In past weight loss attempts, there was usually short term success, but eventually she was right back to obsessing over food and bingeing on sugar and flour filled foods. She began praying for a permanent solution out of this food obsession. She was ready to fully surrender! After one such prayer, she came across the idea of food boundaries. This is simply the idea of following boundaries in regards to food; no sugar, no flour, 3 meals a day, and measured portions. She DID have to eat food to survive, but DID NOT have to eat sugar and flour. She knew in that moment that her rescue boat had arrived and she just had to jump in and paddle! She began eating amazing, delicious, and abundant amounts of food. A lifestyle change, rather than a diet, was exactly what she needed! Since then, she has released 150 pounds and gone from a size 28 down to a size 12! Her head is clear and all mental food chatter is gone! She can confidently say that she found food freedom and is FINALLY free from this burden of food addiction. Sometimes, living sugar and flour free is hard, but being obese and food obsessed was much harder! Now she can FULLY ENJOY the life that she has ALWAYS LOVED. Don't think you CAN'T earn a pro card at your first show, since there are federations with a one step process to going pro where that CAN and DOES happen, but usually I find that you need strategy to present your best total package and for there to be enough time to develop it. Especially in federations where the road to achieving a pro card is a two step process, which I'll explain later, where there are a greater number of competitors competing.  Your physique might be good. You might have chosen the right division for your body type. But you might not have enough refinement in your overall package to LOOK the part. And so what I want to do I want to share a few neat stories on how to LOOK the part depending on the federation you choose and what the roads for going pro are like for the different federations.  You CAN earn pro status right away. Maybe not in the divisions that require a lot of muscle if you simply don't have the muscle to meet the criteria, but if you do, you sure can.. But what does that even mean?  The idea of going pro?  Let me tell you a quick story.  I worked with a client, Megan, who had competed before but could never break the top 5 at her shows. I think she even came into last place at one of her shows. She had a great physique, beautiful muscle, great symmetry, full quads, tight abs, all great features. She had been trying for years and was discouraged. She reached out one day asking for help because she really wanted to win a show.  As her last resort, she hired me to help her. One of the first things I noticed was the odd shapes she made with her poses.  She was competing in figure division and regardless of the federation, Figure is looking for an X frame with broad shoulders, wide lats, small waist, and then to complete the X with the lower body you should show fullness in your quads and legs that match the level of development that you have with the upper body. Forget how much muscle she had, or how low her body fat level was, Megan's posing made her look pear shaped, not an X. She had those beautiful quads and toned abs, but the way she was positioning her upper body it made her back look narrow and her shoulders look small.  Think about that shape for a minute and what the judging criteria calls for. If the judges are looking for an X Frame and you are posing like a Pear you will never win. Ever. Don't care how lean you get, how expensive your suit is, or all the sacrifices you made to get on stage. You will never win.  I don't care if it's a federation with a one step process to getting a pro card like WBFF, WNBF, or OCB or a federation where it is a two step process like the IFBB.  One step means you can compete on a local stage and win a pro card; a two step pro card stage means you place in a local show as a way to qualify for a national stage where only there can you get a pro card. If you are posing like a pear you probably won't even make it past the first stage of a two step process to going pro. So my point with Megan's story is that she wasn't even cracking the top 5 because her overall package wasn't refined. And what I mean by refined, is that it wasn't a quick fix for Megan to make these new shapes. She had two issues. First, she was used to positioning her body a certain way and now had bad habits. And second, she literally had no mind muscle connection to areas of her back that she needed to access in order to make the new shapes required to be competitive. And this happens all. the time. I see this as a judge for professional men's bodybuilding. The deal breaker can often be the lats and the inability to open them. Something so simple yet so critical. So for Megan she needed advanced refinement and was willing to put the work in to make it happen. She just needed to know how to do it. So after 8 weeks of following my protocols, BAM, after about 8 weeks she had not only developed the mental engagement she needed to make an X frame with her posing, she also developed a lot more confidence in the process. She was like a different person. She GOT it. She DID it. She KNEW she looked good. And she was now ready to try again on stage. At her next show, she not only broke top 5, she won first place and her pro card. True story. Posing really does win shows. Assuming your physique is on point of course. Megan's story shows that you can have a great physique but something might be missing that is holding you back from your highest potential. If you leave no stone unturned in creating YOUR best package, you totally can become a pro. So as you know I have earned pro status in 3 dramatically different federations. I say dramatically because literally the scoring requirements and what the judges are looking for are nothing alike in these three federations. So when I say there are options in bodybuilding, I really mean it. One pro card was in a federation with traditional bodybuilding type of scoring. The second was judged by industry professionals and photographers who were looking for more mainstream marketability. And the third was a federation where Victoria's Secret meeting fitness meets fashion. In fact, after a few years, this third federation, The WBFF, took out the word bodybuilding from their title completely to distinguish themselves from traditional bodybuilding competitions.  I remember I was about 10 years into competing and had tried pretty much every federation prior to this one. I was in shape and wasn't doing anything extreme with my diet and nutrition. I remember being at my cousin's wedding on a Saturday and having a piece of cake and a glass of wine. I might've had a cookie too since I love a good cookie.  My aunt Shirley makes the best ones by the way. After every show she always has some waiting for me. So anyways, later that weekend I find out that there is a show being held in Boston that might be fun to try. I wasn't in contest shape but I was in decent shape and decided to try the show and just have fun. I can still hear the song playing through the speakers as I entered the stage for my individual walk. (Sing it) I stopped at the back of the stage and took a deep breath and looked around the audience. I had a genuine smile on my face and was totally present for the first time on stage. It had been 10 years of competing and for the first time I did a show for fun. I was so happy just to be there.  I had no expectations because I was in shape but I wasn't that lean. So when it came time for trophies, they started counting down the top 5 placement. 5th place, 4th place, 3rd place, and then there it was, I got second place. I was so excited! And here is where it gets really cool.  No I didn't win first place, but as we were exiting the stage, the MC called out to me and told me to stick around so I could be included in the comparisons for the overall title.  This was huge because the overall winner earned a pro card. I thought it was odd that I was second in my class but being asked to share the stage with the winners from all three class winners. I just went with it and had fun with it. So all three winners are called out and there I am standing with them on stage vying for the overall title. Once the judges took us through a round of posing, the MC announced the overall winner. It was not me. I wasn't surprised because I was second place. The winner was the first place winner from my class so I turned and hugged her because she not only won the overall, she won her pro card. Meanwhile, as we are hugging, we are interrupted by the MC again. He calls out my name, so I turn to face him and the rest of the judging panel.  He then says, congratulations, you have also earned your pro card. It was like something out of a movie. I did not see that coming.   The moral of the story was, although I wasn't the leanest on stage that day, my overall package and presentation earned me a pro card.  So, yes, your physique matters. Your posing matters. Your energy that you portray on stage matters. It ALL matters. To what level depends on the federation ANNNND the division. so if you choose a stage where your overall appearance is a huge chunk of your score you better spend more time on what I call “everything else.”  If you are in a more traditional bodybuilding category, your important takeaway is that how big your smile is won't matter as much as how well you execute the mandatory poses. You should be able to do them in your sleep and you better be able to hit them and stick them.  You will look unprepared otherwise.  If you can nail your physique, your posing, and your stage presence, you are likely to go pro at some point.         So I want to tell you the second part of this, I am going to teach a lot, especially in the first half of this entire show I am going to teach a lot of concepts and principles. But what I want to talk about now is what it actually MEANS to be a pro.  I'm so blessed in hindsight, that I have competed in 6 federations.  It's only because of having this first hand experience that I can share what truly makes the federations different. I'm against competing where it's not the right fit for you. For whatever reason. The vibe, the judging process, the standards of the physiques, whatever it is, you might just not enjoy competing somewhere. And there is nothing wrong with that. There is what I think is an ODD idea of loyalty to a federation. I'm sure this will offend people but whatever, it is what I think and believe and I'll tell you why. Here goes:  unless you are in the top 1% in the fitness industry and have a strong influence on social media, you aren't going to make a ton of money as a pro.  You might not make any money at all for that matter. Let me say it again, most pros don't make ANY money from competing. Big concept. Big principle to understand. The truth is you won't make money.  I can't think of any other sport that pros don't all earn some sort of pay check.  With bodybuilding you make money in one of two ways. You earn a few thousand dollars if you win a pro show (and a few thousand might be stretching it unless you are competing in the men's bodybuilding division at the IFBB Olympia competition). The second way is from endorsements, which are few and far between because bodybuilding is not a mainstream sport. You might get a supplement sponsorship where you get free supplements. Not many actually get actual money to pay for competition expenses. So if you don't win or place where there is prize money, or have any financial support from an endorsement, YOU will pay for all of your costs of competing.  These costs will add up, so even as a so-called PRO, you need an additional profession that provides you another stream of income to support you. Compete and try to earn pro status where it's FUN for you. You might fall in love with the first federation you compete in. Great. Or you might try a couple to find out where you fit best. Once you find the right fit, dump your energy and focus into that ONE federation because YOU want to, not because you feel you have to out of loyalty. Know you won't make money literally from competing.  The credibility from competing gives you the ability to add to your resume and make more money as a fitness trainer or as an add-on to your resume for some other niche in the industry if that's something that interests you. In other words, what you do to leverage your pro status, can increase your potential to make money in other ways, not from act of competing itself.  Being a pro doesn't mean you are going to get on the cover of a magazine either. Ten years ago, maybe, but not now. You need more than just a pro card, you need a marketable image and a following.  And because bodybuilding is not mainstream, you won't see the sport broadcasted on mainstream television or any of the pros modeling mainstream fitness clothing brands like under armor or nike.  Even as a pro, for 99% of them across all federations and divisions, competing itself is still a hobby.  And like I mentioned in the last episode, think of it like golf, which is also an expensive sport. Compete because it's fun and you love it. Have a budget set aside for expenses. Don't skimp on creating your best package because everything counts.  It takes a lot of time and effort day in and day out to prepare for a show, especially if you want to actually win or even earn a pro card. The last thing you want to do is blow your chances on things that were totally avoidable if you were better prepared with a complete package.   Hopefully you enjoyed todays' episode, if you did please please please let me know, I would love to, if you are down with it, tag me, I'll repost you on instagram, and leave a. review. if not had a chance, go to  www.eeinbb.com . What Kelly Roberts of "She Can and She Did" and the Badass Lady Gang Has Learned About Community Through Running

Even if you're not familiar (yet) with She Can & She Did or the Badass Lady Gang, you probably know who Kelly Roberts is thanks to her viral 15 minutes back in 2014, when she ran a half marathon and took selfies with an unsuspecting hot guy every mile. The popular Buzzfeed post inspired a blog, and from there, Roberts has taken on the mantle of relatable "struggle runner" to women worldwide. Candidly referring to herself as a former president of the I Hate Running Club, Roberts now trains to one day qualify for the Boston Marathon, and she wants women worldwide to realize that strength comes in different shapes, sizes, and body types (she even crowdsourced a sports bra guide to help women of all sizes find a suitable sports bra for them, pointing out that not having a fitting, functional sports bra can be a major obstacle to being active). On She Can & She Did, she invites women to share their stories through stories, art, images, and more. (And Roberts herself has represented a non-traditional image of strength in prominent media spots with Nike and Runner's World.) Meanwhile, Roberts created the Badass Lady Gang (BALG) to be a free fitness movement (a la November Project) that empowers women to connect with others while getting active. The best part? No runner is ever left behind, as Roberts structures BALG workouts to ensure all runners are within shouting distance of each other and succeeding together is a built-in element. "It is a running crew," Roberts explains, "but it's truly a come as you are community. You could be an Olympic trials qualifier or on day one of a fitness journey—both of you will get a really fun workout. [We always say] community first, a really fun workout second." And although Roberts has her hands in a variety of communities now, it wasn't always that easy. Roberts spoke about struggling to find her niche when she moved to NYC, especially as a former theater major who was used to having casts and crews to hang out with. Now, one of her current goals (outside of training for Boston) is to put more effort into having a social life and incorporating the arts back into her life, whether through improv workshops or sketch writing classes. We think you'll love listening to Kelly Roberts and her infectious enthusiasm in this week's #WeGotGoals episode, which you can listen to here, on iTunes, on Spotify, or anywhere you get your podcasts. Show a little love by leaving us a five star review if you have a second, please and thank you!

Sarah and co-host Maggie talk with two guests about pros and cons social media can have on running. First up: Kelly Roberts, who burst onto the scene when she shared hilarious selfies she surreptitiously snapped of herself + hot guys during a half-marathon. Now an influencer and proponent of body positivity, Kelly provides insight and inspiration on She Can and She Did. Kelly shares how she used to hide her life story because it was tied to shame, but no more! The trio discusses the importance of being proud of where you’re at now—and of showing up and giving your all. Lots of laughs and TMI talk, including a story of epic chafing from a sports bra on a recent 16-mile run in Kelly’s quest to BQ or Bust. Then Molly Ritterbeck, Training, Fitness, & Health Director for Runner's World and Bicycling. (Phew: a mouthful!) Molly, Maggie, and SBS discuss the double-edged sword that is social media. Molly steers the conversation toward an examination of extrinsic versus intrinsic motivation, and how those are affected by online opportunities. The three examine the critical importance of honesty. The theme of “Facebook fiction” runs throughout this thought-provoking episode. In the intro, Maggie shares life updates (hint: her family will soon, once again, be on the move), and she and SBS envision a sketch cartoon entitled “If This Minivan Could Talk.” Kelly arrives on the scene at 16:36. Run Selfie Repeat. #SportsBraSquad.  She Can and She Did.  #BQorBust. "I set out to inspire people who were struggling to find a way to feel proud of themselves."  Kelly Roberts is in the house!  We talk about running, injury, the hot guys in the NYC half marathon, the haters, the sports bra squad and more. She writes on her site:  "When I started a blog called Run, Selfie, Repeat in 2013, I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I had just “gone viral” for taking selfies with "hot guys" behind me while I tried to survive a half marathon. Suddenly, I found myself on Good Morning America and was struggling to navigate the fleeting hurricane that is going viral. "That’s when my badass lady gang swooped in and encouraged me to start a blog and run with my five seconds of fame. "I wanted to inspire people who, like me, had a hard time with physical activity (that’s putting it lightly – I used to call myself the President of the "I f*cking hate running club"). I set out to inspire people who were struggling to find a way to feel proud of themselves. And so, I started a running blog because despite the fact that running consistently humbled the hell out of me, it also gave me a way to set a tangible, seemingly impossible goal, and work to make it a reality. "A lot happened in a very short four years. I met the royals, went from “I don’t think I’m a runner” to a 3 hour and 41 minute marathoner(!!!), started the #SportsBraSquad, landed the cover of Women’s Running Magazine(!!!), and saw thousands of badass women cross their very first finish lines." Where do you begin to create an industry? How do you convince mainstream retailers to take a chance on you? How do convince manufacturers to take a chance on you? Where does your uniqueness lye?  Hey, She Did it Her Way Listeners! Today we get to meet Karen Behnke, the founder of Juice Beauty, an organic beauty product line! She started her first company in the fitness industry right out of college and has since become a serial wellness entrepreneur, with her business ventures spanning 20 years. But she said despite her submersion in the corporate health and wellness industry, like so many other women, she never paid attention to the ingredients that went into her beauty products. Her curiosity about her beauty product’s ingredients was peaked when she became pregnant for the first time in her 40’s. She said she was completely devastated by what was in the average beauty product. She saw ingredients like formaldehyde, and petroleum, and was shocked that she never noticed them before because she had worked with so many experts on quality ingredients in health and wellness products for so many years. Seven or eight years later, she bought the name Juice Beauty and took it upon herself to radically transform the chemistry of beauty. Since her collection has expanded to skin care and makeup, gained Gwyneth Paltrow as a creative director, has been picked up by retailers like Ulta Beauty, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales; and has been up and running for over 12 years! To begin to surpass the conventional chemical standards of beauty products, she had to learn about its current state, so she brought in an in-house group of chemists and product development experts. She said they found that a lot of them start out with glycols, which are petroleum waste products that act as a hydrating ingredient as dense as Vaseline. They also found that natural products start out with water, meaning consumers are paying the top-notch price for a diluted product. Her concept was to start out with organic botanical juices, aloes, shea’s, grapeseed, and guavas; and pack all the products with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. As of a couple years ago, they also released a photo pigments makeup collection, which is plant derived with plant pigments, and no artificial colors or fragrances. Though she was a seasoned entrepreneur when she launched Juice Beauty, she had never dived into the world of cosmetics, so she wasn’t exempt from the turbulence that is early entrepreneurship. She said she had forgotten how hard running a start-up was, and how much she’d have to be involved in every aspect of her business. She said she spent 75% of her time leading product development in the beginning, along with one chemist and analyzed every single ingredient to make sure it was clean and healthful for consumers and the planet. When it was time to bring in more people, she said she also struggled with attracting professionals in the organic beauty industry, because she was so new, and didn’t have the allure of big name brands. Once she became a household name and attracted teams of in-house experts and executives, she said had to learn to transition into a leader and teach her new staff how to convey her message and vision on a daily basis.  One of her goals from day one was to make it hard for consumers to tell the difference between Juice Beauty and another big name commercial brand. She said she wanted her stem cellular CC cream that was made zinc (for SPF coverage), and coconut alkenes, and grapeseed (for beautiful slip and feel), from chemical sunscreen made with oxybenzone, or silicones, and dimethicones. It was very difficult in the beginning, and she said they had problems with their zinc being too heavy, and things turning blue. But through trial and error, trusting her women’s intuition, she navigated the choppy waters of early entrepreneurship, and was able to add Juice Beauty to her repertoire of successful businesses! Get comfortable and enjoy today’s episode as you learn more about Karen and Juicy Beauty’s story!  In this episode you will… Know how to change and upgrade the standards of an industry Be able to go after big commercial brands See what it’s like to start over as the founder of a start-up if you already have an established business Be able to define your company’s goal Start to follow your instincts as a business owner Learn the best way to land investors for your company, and invest in yourself INSIGHTS “It’s kind of a win-win-win. You win with high [ethics] skin care, and vibrant plant makeup. You win with what you’re putting on your skin is healthful, and for the people that care, you win with supporting a company that is really supporting organic farming, supporting the planet, and building a sustainable company from top to bottom.” -Karen Benkhe  “If you have a wrong hire in a very small business, that can set you back a couple of years. Every single hire has to be right…and then sometimes you may have amazing people in the beginning, but they might not make it through with all the change. When it’s a great transition, it that’s wonderful. But when it’s a bad transition, that can really be hard.” -Karen Behnke “I was the lead investor in Juice Beauty…but I’m still surprised when young entrepreneurs come in to talk to me, and they don’t want to put any of their money at risk, [but they] want everybody else to invest. I always say you’ve got to put your own money up…f you’re not going to risk it, nobody else is going to.” -Karen Behnke  “Passion has fueled me. I love business, and I love mission-driven businesses, that’s what I’ve always done. I’ve never been not motivated to get up and go at it every day.” -Karen Behnke RESOURCES Juice Beauty Website Juice Beauty Facebook Juice Beauty Instagram Juice Beauty Twitter

How do you allow success to flow to you? Do you start the day claiming positivity? Are you in control of your happiness? We get to hear Amanda's take on these questions today as the roles are flipped and she becomes the interviewee! On this episode, Amanda is interviewed by Catherine Grace O’Connell and Kathy Kaehler of LA Talk Radio’s, Cat & Kaehler. During their talk, she shares with listeners her entrepreneurial story, and the mental journey she went on along the way!  As SDIHW listeners know, Amanda left corporate America around 2012, and began working as an independent contractor in large corporations. Her role focused on sales training and development, as well as teaching sales marketing. It wasn’t until 2015 that she started SDIHW, because she saw a lack of the female perspective in the entrepreneurial world, and decided to start a podcast to share her experiences. Originally starting as a hobby, SDIHW has since evolved into on offline support system of women in charge of their dreams; all eager to offer their help and advice to others trying to navigate the rough waters of entrepreneurship. This network was strengthened with the first in-person She Did it Her Way Summit this past October. At the Summit, SDIHW listeners were able to meet with female entrepreneurs across the country and learn from them, network, and build a community that will support them along their new career paths.  This passion to bring people together has been a dream of Amanda’s since she was a little kid. She remembers wanting to be an actress or a singer, playing store with the neighbor kids using monopoly money, and running a lemonade stand when she was younger. She said she always imagined a career where she worked with people, and  felt a need to service them through resource and community building. She felt a strong desire to be her own boss and understood from an early age what entrepreneurship meant, and was eager to jump on the bandwagon. But first, she had some mental reconfiguration to do. After she graduated college, like every graduate, she was bombarded with student loans. She said for five years, she used that as the reason she couldn’t save money to start her business and become financially stable. Her debt became a cloud over her energy; and with her frequency lowered, repressed childhood emotions, and other mental roadblocks regarding money and self-worth began to arise.  After being in a stuck and negative place for a while, she decided to stop being a victim, and take control of her life. She looked at the philosophy of Tony Robbins and Wayne Dyer and reframed how she looked at stressors. She took them as a learning experience so she could allow infinite abundance and positivity to enter her reality, and unload years of emotional baggage. She said she began to look at the negatives in her life in a more empowering light, like being thankful that she was able to go to graduate from college and have the money to pay off student loans herself. By changing her mindset, and allowing herself to be vulnerable through emotional coaching, she was able to vibrate at a higher energy frequency, and let success and fulfillment come to her! Hear how she figured out where she wanted to channel her motivation and determination, released herself from a negative mindset, and began to actively pursue her passions! In this episode you will… Learn to remove the roadblocks in your mind to achieve success Get rid of a victim mentality Change how you look at the  stressors in your life Start your day with affirmations Avoid getting caught up in social media comparisons Take control of your happiness and success INSIGHTS “We choose our reality, and we can`t be a victim of our circumstances, and that wherever we are is because we choose it…once we can recognize that we are actually subconsciously choosing to be where we are, that’s when we can start to move forward…and get to that abundance.” -Amanda Boleyn “Everything that we do, and the energy that we put behind our actions will dramatically dictate the outcome of what we get…that shift of going from a victim to realizing we’re still in control of our circumstances, that takes work…it’s a constant choice in every situation to choose to be empowered.” -Amanda Boleyn “When I find myself in this stuck mindset, I ask myself how can I change the perspective or way I’m looking at? Or what can I ask myself to shift this paradigm in my mind, because if we are all truly of our own reality, we can create whatever we want.” -Amanda Boleyn RESOURCES Cat & Kaehler Website Cat& Kaehler Facebook Cat & Kaehler Instagram Cat & Kaehler Twitter The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

How do you come up with new content for your business? What steps will you have to take to get it off the ground? She Did it Her Way listeners, let’s welcome back Farissa Knox, the second guest on SDIHW two years ago! She is the founder of two businesses, RLM Media and WhatRUWearing. RLM Media is an advertising agency that does media planning and buying for clients across the country, while WhatRUWearing exemplifies her love for all things fashion and style. WRUW is a digital publishing house that features daily editorials, videos, and their podcast, Fast Fashion. Recently WRUW has also launched a new reality web series, PR Girl, which follows the life of Chicago entertainment publicist, Alexandra Moresco. The idea for PR Girl came to her after studying the habits of her audience to find a new way for WRUW to further capture their interest. She knew whatever she did would have to be video-based, since she said that 18-34 year-old women that love fashion, beauty, and style primarily gravitated towards that medium. She then thought about what professions or industries that demographic aspired to the most, and which of those could be documented in a stimulating video. She felt that the PR industry fit the bill, and wanted the web series to center on a 20-something female, that lived a similar dream life as the girls of the pop culture influences Sex and the City and The Hills. She wanted that life to be tangible for her audience, and show them the reality of what that life can bring; good or bad. She wanted the show to be about female empowerment, and less about the negative drama that typical reality shows promoted. The goal was to highlight positive, young, talent and show women that a fabulous career is possible and educate them on the field of PR. She started by reaching out to the producer behind RLM’s home page video, Joe Knee, to see if there were any holes in her idea, and if it was even a good idea because he had experience pitching reality shows in LA. He loved the idea immediately and wanted to be a part of the production process. After that, it was all about finding the girl. She knew she wanted the girl to be Chicago-based, in order to make the filming and connecting process easier, and dived into her network. Out of the handful of girls she contacted, her communication and connection with Alexandra were the most genuine and never-ending. Alexandra jumped at the opportunity to work with Farissa, and once Farissa got production and the star in place, PR Girl was almost ready for takeoff. The last step was promotion and marketing. She wanted to partner with another organization to help with the press outreach and expand their platform. Already a fan and follower of PR Couture, started by Crosby Noricks, she reached out to them first via email. Later that day Crosby responded, and after learning about each other as women and brands through a week-long email thread, Farissa hopped on a plane to San Diego to meet Crosby to talk about their partnership. Over lunch, they discussed their roles in the show, with Farissa being the creator, and Crosby being the marketing and brand developing partner. From there PR Girl was a go and launched in the early part of October! Listen in for more of the story, how Farissa started RLM nine years ago, and her growth as an entrepreneur and CEO! In this episode you will... See how to conduct market research and brainstorm on new content for your business Learn how you may grow throughout the years as an entrepreneur Know what it takes to transform from an entrepreneur to a CEO Figure out a possible end goal or retirement plan for your business and yourself Find different ways to measure the success of your business See how to balance your personal and work life INSIGHTS “In the first three years, you’re making decisions on things that will be the foundation of your company… And you don’t know that yet...you just think I’m trying to make it towards tomorrow or next week…and get clients…but it’s more than just getting clients and getting money. You’re laying the foundation of your future success and reputation.” –Farissa Knox “We’ve been doing this long enough where no one questions whether we’re good at it anymore. When you say nine years…the reputation is there, the value is there, the length of time is there…now I’m getting clients and partners sent my way…I’m really proud of that” –Farissa Knox “Now approaching year nine, my fears and my concerns have completely shifted. I’m no longer concerned about how are we going to make payroll because the money is coming, the clients are there. It’s more about managing the money and growing the company. If you’re starting podcast what equipment do you need? How do you set up your systems? How soon will you have to monetize it and how? Where and how do you start to build your audience? Today’s episode is set up a little different, and we get to listen in on Brandon T. Adams’ podcast with Amanda Boleyn as the guest! On Brandon’s podcast, Amanda shares her entrepreneurial story with four aspiring entrepreneurs: Christina, Rob, Mandy, and Nicole. For the most part, they have all recently quit their jobs and have begun pursuing various projects. Mandy has begun the process of launching her own podcast in about four weeks, and Nicole and Rob are working on filming a documentary and turning it into a podcast as well. Mandy plans to interview young thought leaders and non-profits on how they incorporate generosity into their businesses and lives, and Nicole and Rob want to interview people in foster care across America. Christina aims to help entrepreneurs build physical products, and sell them through brick and mortar stores, as well as Amazon and other direct consumer services. She’s also working on launching a book, and two product courses. Through their conversation, Amanda arms them with all the tips and tricks they need, plus advice on saving money, keeping themselves organized, and staying strong while pushing through the rough patches as they embark on their transitional period. Amanda’s story began once she left her comfy job at Target and started working for Wells Fargo through a third party agency. Wells Fargo offered very little stability, PTO, benefits, or retirement plan at the time, so the jump was a huge risk for her. She was ready to shake things up, though, and branch out on her own. It was at the company that she met a guy named Chad, who owned a business centered on sales training, leadership development, and employee engagement within other companies. He soon offered her a job doing sales training at AT&T, and from there she started working on behavior change projects with independent contractors like JP Morgan, and Weight Watchers. From there she began working for a staffing company that does high-level technical staffing for large tech companies, such as Intel. It was here that she began doing tech shows about marketing, branding, and messaging technologies. She and another employee started out staging highly interactive 3-day training seminars that got people reflecting on their attitudes and thoughts at work and got them connecting with each other in order to break down the barriers of miscommunication. She would also help them work on methods of self-improvement. Now she works with Intel to learn their technologies, shares that message at tradeshows, like the Consumer Electronics Show and GSMA Mobile World Congress, where she spoke about Intel’s autonomous driving. Through this job, she has been able to travel across America, and other countries like Asia, and Spain. The opportunity to travel and network with people like Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, is Amanda’s career dream, but she felt needed to share her wisdom and experience with others so she could help them avoid the obstacles that she did. Always loving podcasts, she set out on the mission to create one herself but found that there wasn’t any that explained a female’s perspective down the bumpy entrepreneurial road. Deciding that would be her niche, she turned to her friend who had a successful podcast of his own, and he helped her get She Did it Her Way (SDIHW) off the ground. The podcast started with two other girls, but after nine months Amanda was the last one standing. Now that SDIHW has been up and running for a while, she has been able to hire on two other contractors to outsource certain aspects of the company. This is an important step for entrepreneurs because it allows them to clear their mind and save them time on processes that may be repetitive, time-consuming, and take away from aspects of the company that needs their personalized attention. Once an entrepreneur has gotten to the point of having a small team, or even if it’s just them, Amanda recommends developing a highly organized system and schedule, and shares how using Asana has revolutionized her project management. It has saved hours of her time, as well as her virtual assistant and producer’s time, and has helped increase their productivity through reminders, and letting everyone know where they are at with the tasks and episodes assigned to them. For recording episodes, she suggests batch recording, especially for entrepreneurs starting out. She told Mandy that recording 6-8 episodes before she launches will help her work out any technical or interview-style kinks, and also let her know if her target interviewees will be responsive and reliable. When reaching out to interviewees, she tells all of them to be persistence and to not be intimidated by potential interviewees. Sometimes all they will have to do is ask, and find that people are more than willing to help them and their podcast. She also tells them to set up a strong referral system via networking, and how that can be stronger than the status of their business and themselves. The biggest tip is not to get discouraged. People are busy, and sometimes following-up is a good reminder for them. If that doesn’t work, it’s okay to move on. For Amanda, the connections and the networks she’s built through SDIHW has been the most rewarding and meaningful outcome for her. The women that she’s inspired keeps her striving for more and expanding SDIHW’s brand. Her end goal is to have SDIHW be a seven-figure business that offers monthly content like webinars and podcasts.  Hear more of Amanda’s advice and story in today’s episode!   In this episode, you will…  Learn the financial and personal investments needed to start and grow a successful podcast  Know what programs to invest in to record your podcast  Hear different ways to set up your interview schedule  See how to obtain guests on your podcast  Figure out ways to monetize your podcast  Find ways to streamline your system INSIGHTS “In order for us to move and to get to where we want to go, we have to break down the behaviors, and [see] what is the behavior that I’m doing that’s going to lead me to where I want to go.”-Amanda Boleyn  “It’s the whole outsourcing process of entrepreneurship. Figuring out what are the things that you’re doing on a daily basis that is repetitive, and can, therefore, be outsourced to other people, and what are the things that you need to be doing that you can’t necessarily outsource, and then also generating revenue at the same time so that you can outsource by moving it forward.” –Amanda Boleyn  “Whatever you do, things take time to really hit that point where they start building. It’s [about] being patient and persistent at the same time because it’s so easy to jump ship on whatever we want to do [when] we’re not seeing results…the waves when you look at an ocean may not be doing a whole lot, but the underlying current [is] what most people don’t see…there’s a current moving in the direction of what you wanted to do because you’re doing the activities to get you somewhere.” –Amanda Boleyn  “If you’re disengaged and you want to be engaged, how do you become inspired, and how do you change the story to get it to a place where you can start taking action to get it done.” –Amanda Boleyn  “As an entrepreneur…if you want to excel, you cannot excel having the mindset of a victim. I played the victim a fair amount…[and then] you start uncovering and unpacking and realizing that whatever thing you feel bad for doesn’t matter if you want to grow and you want to kick ass in life…You need to let go of that and work through it.” –Amanda Boleyn RESOURCES Brandon T. How many times have you heard us and other entrepreneurs on this podcast rave about Jen Sincero'sbook, You Are a Badass? Isn't it about time you guys heard from her yourselves? Well today's the day She Did it Her Way listeners! We've gotten Jen, author of You Are a Badass and You Are a Badass at Making Money, on the podcast today! We are so jazzed, to quote Amanda, to share with you her journey towards becoming a successful author and a life coach! Jen's entrepreneurial story started when she was in her 40s, and after living a good life for a while as a writer and a musician, she was still broke and living in a garage. She knew she had ample amount of talent, but could not understand why money just seemed to evade her. She didn't really have a wake-up call or epiphany moment, she just got really tired of living below her potential. She knew that she was capable of more, and couldn't watch herself waste her gifts anymore. She decided to swallow her pride and look for some financial guidance. She started reading self-help books, going to coaching seminars, started her online coaching business, and writing books. However, it was a life coach that she met at a coaching seminar that had the greatest impact. With her fee being a quarter of Jen's annual income at the time, she took a huge risk by hiring her. But Jen connected with her story, because she too had lived the life of an experienced broke person, and was now making six figures by just helping people. Terrified, she took out another credit card, despite her debt, and was all in. She did everything she told her to do and soaked up as much guidance as she could as she helped her with coaching business for writers. Through the process, she learned to get over the negative stigma involved with focusing on monetary gain. One exercise she repeats in both of her books is writing a letter to money as if it were a person. This helps people get over their fears of being judged for focusing on money, and bring money into a relatable mental space which makes it easier to obtain. For her, the letters revealed that she felt like money wasn't available to her, and was the root of a lifestyle she could never see herself being a part of. As she grew her business and projects, she also found that her fears around making money stemmed from losing a source of affection from her father. One way her dad would show his support and love for her was throwing her $20 or $100 dollars every now and then. If she made a lot of money, she felt that they would no longer have that connection, and outshine her father. What led her to this notion was when she wanted to work with a life coach she really respected, and that cost $85,000. To even be in the head space to consider spending that much money made her think about her father, who was an Italian immigrant.  She pictured him in his yellow vee neck sweater, with his hands in his pockets, staring sadly at his feet because he felt he couldn't take care of her anymore. But she had to move past that thought, allow herself to prosper, and realize that her dad would always see her as his little girl who needs $100 bucks once and a while. Through it all, she has learned to disprove her excuses and learn to love the thrill of living outside of her comfort zone. She has also learned to love herself and help others learn to love themselves as well, by reminding readers at the end of every chapter of her book. She knows how easy it is to be hard on yourself and feel as though success is equated to perfection. So she reminds readers, and herself, that there is beauty in our flaws and we have to be okay with things not being perfect; whatever the hell that means, as Jen would say. Hear more from Jen in this week's inspiring episode! In this episode you will... Learn to become savvy about making money and live up to your potential Get over negative connotations revolving around money Find out where your fear of money lies and stems from Remember to love yourself Live outside of your comfort zone, and do things that scare you Begin to realize your excuses aren't true INSIGHTS "I just got so freakin' sick of hearing myself talk about being broke...and not just sick of struggling, and scraping by...but more importantly...I knew in my soul that I could do better. And the fact that I wasn't...it just got too excruciating... And that's when I made the decision to get some freakin' help. To do whatever it took to learn about money...and really go for it in a way I had never gone for it before." -Jen Sincero "We're all struggling, we're all doing our best, and the most important thing is to just get in the game and go, and not wait until everything's perfect [and] you're 100% ready...just do it who cares." -Jen Sincero "Do something that scares the living crap out of you every day, and that moves you in the direction of where you want to be...if you really want to change your life, you had better be scared. If you're not scared you're doing something wrong." -Jen Sincero   "That commitment to our excuses as opposed to that commitment to miracles...you really gotta be open if you want to grow. You gotta be available to be wrong, which is what we hate...but to be right about our excuses is very important to us. And when we'd rather be happy than right, then we open up a whole new world of possibility." -Jen Sincero RESOURCES Jen Sincero LinkedIn Jen Sincero Website Jen Sincero Facebook Jen Sincero Instagram Jen Sincero Twitter

What is your driving force? The ultimate thing in your life that gives you direction and purpose? For Steph Crowder, Head of Member Success at Fizzle.Co., her motivators are her 14-month-old daughter and Fizzle. Fizzle is a company that helps creative entrepreneurs build their businesses via online courses, and weekly articles, podcasts, and small business guides. Their ultimate goal is to set up individual business owners with every resource, and tool they need to feel supported by an understanding community of like minded individuals. It is because of their mission and morals that Fizzle has become Steph's north star and passion. She refers to herself as the 'Den Mama' of Fizzle because she is so invested in the company, and takes care of everything and everyone, from clients to coworkers. Starting as a customer of theirs, she joined the company as a part-time customer service rep two years ago, and took a 60% pay cut from her previous job as head of a department at Groupon. Since she has become part of the leadership team, hosts Fizzle's podcast, as well as her own, Courage and Clarity. When her daughter came into the world, her heart and dedication became split between being a devoted mom and an ambitious leader. She wanted her career and role at Fizzle to continue to grow and move at the upward pace it was, previously. But she needed to do so in less time, because she didn't want her daughter's life to be consumed by day care, and wanted to be an involved parent. She wanted to do it all, and compromise nothing, and felt she could do so with rigid scheduling and time management. She quickly realized that that was a no-go. She began to see that this way of thinking and living was being reactive to her conundrum, but not actually proactive in changing anything. So she started delegating her work load, and saying no to things that were miniscual, and weren't what she wanted or needed to be doing; such as getting trapped in email jail, and handling Fizzle's social media prescence. By eliminating unneccesary tasks and distractions in her life and at work, she was able to be the mother that she wanted to be and spend quality time with her baby. Stay tuned and hear more about how Steph worked her way up at Fizzle, how motherhood made her a better leader, and how her and her partners are evolving Fizzle with a fresh identity and purpose! Also, check out Steph's original appearance on She Did it Her Way two years ago! In this episode you will... Be okay with not getting constant feedback on your performance as an entrepreneur Learn how to merge skills as a mother into being a leader in your professional life Know how to delegate certain tasks at your job, and projects so you can focus on your personal or family life Learning other behaviors to increase productivity, as opposed to working harder and longer, and burning yourself out Discover what your business or start up wants to evolve to once it's hit the 5 year mark Not make your happiness conditional, and be happy with where and who you are at the moment INSIGHTS "There are a lot of lessons, and definitely a border between start ups and pregnancy, and also motherhood. You learn so much about business. I think business and entrepreneurship can teach us a lot about how to be the CEOs of our families. It's really cool to see how these two different systems can play together when you're doing both in your life." -Steph Crowder "If I have an activity...or a project that I want to take on, now I just stop and I say, 'What would be the result of that? Is it going to reach my number one objective, which is growing Fizzle?' That is my north star...I really tried to put myself in the driver's seat.... I'm just trying to support myself and show my daughter an example of what meaningful work can be." -Steph Crowder "Working harder, longer is not a strategy...if that's your sole strategy...you're going to hit a wall. I have not seen someone not burn out on that model, and I am an example of that. You will reach a point in your life where thatno longer becomes a viable strategy. It might work in the short term, but [when] you get to a point where your priorities change, it doesn't feel good to live from that place." -Steph Crowder "It's challenging, as well as incredibly invigorating, to be in part of a company that's doesn't know what the answer is...everything in your business is a hypothesis...even when you're as far along as a business like this...we have to test and tweak and iterate, and it's really exciting to be on the precipice of, where are we going to go from here?" -Steph Crowder "Get yourself in a place where...no matter what happens today I genuinely feel good...because inspired action is so much better and more effective...I feel like I'm doing more meaningful work...and that's a really new mindset for me to explore." -Steph Crowder RESOURCES Special Fizzle 5-Week Free Offer! What does success truly look like in your eyes without comparing it to others? In what ways does your business enrich the lives of your clientele? Can you allow your business to act as an extension of yourself and the entiriety of your being? Amongst the flow of wine, She Did it Her Way dives into these questions at the Boss Dinner with a variety of successful female entrepreneurs. The event is a celebration of powerful women with a goal of creating strong networks aimed at promoting and uplifting one another. Today, we meet Debra Giunta, Kim Bosse, Stacie Brown, Jessica Zweig, and Liz Traines. Debra is the founder and director of Design Dance, a community-based educational dance organization. Design Dance's classes are taught by well trained dancers who teach routines that have an elevated performance aspect to them. However, Debra wanted her classes to be available to students of all income levels, in order to provide easy access to a high quality dance education. Today they serve 1,500 students annually with over 120 classes a week. Along her entrepreneurial road, her greatest epiphany and daily practice is learning to find and be happy with her own version of success. An exercise that keeps her in this mindset is 90-Day projects and goals geared towards growing her business and herself. By having these short term goals, she increases her productivity and it allows her feel accomplished on her own terms. Another boss lady learning to thrive on her own terms is Jessica Zweig, founder of Cheeky Chicago and The SimplyBe Agency. Jessica began her self discovery after she started her first business, Cheeky Chicago; an online lifestyle magazine for women. After having to take a month off of work to recover from a sinus surgery, she entered into a deep depression. She had invested so much of herself into her business that when she had to stop, she felt as though she had lost herself and her purpose. It was after an emotional breakdown on a park bench that she bounced back and regained clarity. She had looked down at a tattoo on her wrist from years ago that said, 'Simply Be, Girls can See it'. It reminded her to be okay with wherever and whoever she was in her life, and to live authentically. From there she was able to rebuild herself seperately from her business, so it wouldn't define her. It also led to the creation of her second business, The SimplyBe Agency, which helps turn budding entrepreneurs into creative leaders by helping them create digital content to cultivate audiences and make an impact. Stacie Brown, Managing Director of Carver Peterson Consulting, helps new entrepreneurs as well by giving new entrepreneurs direction, how to drive revenue, building a staff, along with other business counseling. One thing she prides herself on with her business is creating a healthy work environment built off of trust and transparency. By building a business culture with these pillars at its core, it creates a working environment where everyone feels comfortable engaging and communicating with one another in a professional and constructive way; whether it be about the good, the bad, or the ugly. With this open communication, she is also able to make better decisions as a leader, and effectively solve problems to benenfit the company and associates. Kim Bosse, owner and co-founder of Birch Road Cellar, is learning the same thing and in different capacities. Birch Road Cellar is an event space for members of their club to throw gatherings. The intimate space is homey enough to host small get-togethers between friends or larger events such as the Boss Dinner. For Kim, one of her best business decisions, but also achallenge, is delegating and tailoring areas of her business to fit her strengths and weaknesses. While as an owner this tactic is best for certain tasks, it can keep her complacent and too comfortable. She keeps herself evolving by taking control of sales or pitching to potential members. Admitting that sales isn't her strong suit, at some point there has to be growth, and she likes interacting with potential members, and evaluating if they are a right fit herself. By getting comfortable with the uncomfortable in her business, Kim has taken this approach with her personal life, too. She actively tries to say 'yes' to things that may not make sense or is responsible, but wants to take that chance in order to learn and have that experience. Liz Traines, founder of Liz Traines Coaching, went on a similar journey as she transitioned from the monotony of the corporate world to the freedom of entrepreneurship. Now a career and lifestyle coach, she focuses on helping other women find a career that they love. A veteran to the She Did it Her Way Podcast, we previously heard how Liz spent years living the life she was told, growing in the finance world, and becoming what other people deemed 'successful'. But that path was not her truth, and when a stranger at a New Year's Eve party pointed it out, she was shaken from her trance. She then spent a year living outside her comfort zone, traveling, and practicing self care. It still took her a while to finally leave her corporate job, but when she did became confident, and felt in control of her life. Soak up this jam-packed episode as you hear more about these amazing women! In this episode you will... Learn how to create a platform and business that motivates others towards success Find joy in achieving short term goals and how to rebuild your life and career around that Start to be your own problem-solver in your business Know how to build a productive, trusting, and open work culture Begin to find fulfillment in your own version of success Figure out how to establish yourself as a boss while keeping a positive relationship with her team INSIGHTS "If you want to be profitable, you really need to talk to your client...Take the leap, go meet with a client...go work with someone so you can have an experience that teaches you what people actually need and want and what they'll actually pay for..." -Debra Giunta "When you don't have a boss, you're constantly defining your own success. And I think we are bombarded with versions of success that look like something we might want. And sometimes even when I think I have reached a point of success that I have defined for myself, I see someone else's point of success and I'll compare myself to them. So I think it's really about taking those moments throughout the day to re-center yourself and refocus on where you're at." - Debra Giunta "When you set short term goals, what you force yourself to do is to really focus...and you're like, this is where I'm at...and I'm on this ride, and it's a sprint, and in 90 days I'm going to make a new goal." -Debra Giunta "There's something to be said about having corporate structure that provides you with resources but it's pretty fun when you think through the problem, solve [it], and execute on the problem yourself." -Stacie Brown "There's skillsets as an owner that are different than an employee; [you can't be] afraid to be humble, to ask for help, and seek out the support system that can really make you better. And frankly, that's just letting your guard down and being vulnerable with the things you don't know." -Stacie Brown "I'm [my staff's] boss first, and their friend second, and that's been a shift in mindset...and I think I'm finding the balance between really loving my team and knowing that they love me too, but at the end of the day they respect me. It is an intentional practice everyday, and that was a very, very hard lesson for me to learn." -Jessica Zweig RESOURCES Design Dance Instagram Design Dance Facebook The SimplyBe Agency Instagram The SimplyBe Agency Facebook Carver Peter Consulting Instagram Carver Peterson Consulting Twitter Liz Traines Coaching Instagram Liz Traines Coaching Facebook Birch Road Cellar Twitter Birch Road Cellar Facebook The Man in the Arena by John Bogle The Vanishing Neighbor by Marc J. Get ready for the second half of my conversation with Amanda Boleyn! So remember, this show is all about helping you find the courage & the clarity to go after what you love. So, this is the CLARITY portion of my interview with Amanda. I’m breaking each conversation up into two episodes — one called COURAGE, the part where we get into the dark moments that create amazing vision — and one called CLARITY — the part where my guests let us in on their expertise and give us a real process to apply in our own lives. The episode before this one was Amanda’s "courage" story, so if you happened to miss that one I highly recommend you listen to that first. This fantastic lady shared her real, raw & vulnerable moments along her path to entrepreneurship, and it really sets the stage for this juicy episode. Speaking of which, today Amanda is telling us about her 3 step-framework for making the transition from your day job to working on your business full time. She calls her three steps the Lead Up, the Leap, and the Land. Amanda coaches women through this process over in the She Did it Her Way community. Some key questions Amanda answers in this episode include:What should we be doing to "lead up" to this transition? How do we set ourselves up for success? How do you know when it's time to LEAP?So we quit our jobs... now what?I have to tell you she is truly gifted in this area. In fact, she often warns people to not get too close to her or else you might quit your job :) And that's exactly what happened to me when I met Amanda! She’s got energy and enthusiasm, and she’s sharing the practical steps to help you seize the window of opportunity when it opens for you. I’m pumped to share this conversation with you guys, and don't miss the end of the episode where I share my favorite takeaways.I'm also giving you a little sneak preview of what to expect from my upcoming Courage & Clarity episodes... Here we go ... we're kicking off the first season of this podcast! We've been doing lots of work behind the scenes to bring you an entire collection of real, honest stories intended to help you find the courage & clarity to go after what you love.In fact, in this first episode my favorite moment is when our guest, Amanda Boleyn, talks about the *exact moment* she knew she was going to quit her job and go out on her own -- Terrifying! But I know a lot of you are thinking about doing that very same thing... because there’s something we want to create.More on Amanda in just a moment, but first I need to tell you why this show you’re listening to is different than other podcasts you’ve heard before.I created this podcast to address the fact that creative, badass entrepreneurial women struggle again and again with two main elements:The vision: for our lives & our projectsThe process: what's needed to make that vision a reality. These are two totally different mindsets. On one hand there’s knowing what you want... And on the other hand there’s, actually doing it.So, for each guest you’re going to hear an entire episode about her VISION, and then you’re going to hear another episode entirely devoted to the PROCESS.This show is all about helping you find the courage & the clarity to go after what you love. I’ve seen too many hopeful entrepreneurs fizzle out either because they got too high on a vision and never got down to brass tacks — or they got bogged down in the process without having a real vision for themselves in the first place. That’s why I’m breaking each conversation up into two episodes — one called COURAGE (because it takes a ton of courage to find your vision) — and one called CLARITY (because bringing a vision into the real world requires a crystal clear process).I'm so excited to bring you 12 episodes with 6 incredible guests as my first season of this show, and I'm pumped to have you follow along with me. I have learned A TON from these ladies and I know you will too.---Now, our first guest — I’m so excited for you guys to meet her — Amanda Boleyn is the amazing, vibrant and fun host of the She Did it Her Way podcast. I think you guys are going to LOVE these two conversations I had with her, she really gives us a behind the scenes look at how she's built her podcast & the She Did it Her Way brand, and her energy is so authentic & real.In this COURAGE episode, listen for when she describes the exact moment she knew she was going to leave her plush corporate job to go out on her own -- what that felt like, and how she found the COURAGE to say *yes* to complete uncertainty. Now, if you like this one you’re definitely going to like the next episode where she shares — wait for it! — a 3-step framework for how to leave your job and pursue your business full time.I’m creating these episodes every week, releasing a new COURAGE and a new CLARITY every & every Monday. So if you haven’t yet, subscribe in your podcast app so you get every episode as it comes out.Now without further adieu, let's get into our very first episode with Amanda Boleyn!P.S. if you like the show, you can help me out in a major way by subscribing and leaving a quick review in iTunes. This episode gets raw and honest, so be aware of who might be listening in with you.   A Special Quote for Jennifer    “Don't lament so much about how your career is going to turn out. You don't have a career. You have a life. Do the work. Keep the faith. Be true blue. You are a writer because you write. Keep writing and quit your bitching. Your book has a birthday. You don't know what it is yet.” - From Brave Enough by Cheryl Strayed   Running Away from a Bad Country Song In 2013, Jennifer Buchholz wanted to get numb. Her relationship of 10-years was ending, she was caring for her sick father, two of her cats died and she had just turned 40. She, like most of us, thought running away would make her problems disappear. Even though she felt guilty about planning her trip while her father was bedridden, she realized she really could just pick up and take off on her own. She was now single. She didn’t have any children and she could work remotely. So she called a travel agent with her two prerequisites, warm and all-inclusive.   An Unlikely Pick-me-Up Jamaica was fun but during her flight home, Jennifer was confronted by the thought of returning to an empty house. She was embarrassed to find someone staring at her while her uncontrollable tears were thinning the cheese sauce of her airport nachos. The scruffy man asked her if there was something he could help her with and she tenderly replied to him “Can you make me laugh?”   Making Choices In 2014, Jennifer felt lucky to be chosen for a study abroad program in New Zealand. She used her time alone to read books on how to process grief and ponder about what her future might look like. She wrote down what she was feeling and the writing helped her to get unstuck. She found that writing cleared her mind and gave her a freedom she desperately needed.      Feeling Like a Fraud Transitioning from being a “rules girl” to an entrepreneur didn’t feel natural to Jennifer. She found the path of the entrepreneur scary, messy and unclear. She was faced with trying to define who she was and who she wasn’t (I Am Habits #1). Still, she kept writing with the intention of sharing her experiences with others.    Women Aren’t Supposed To Jennifer’s physical needs didn’t subside just because she was no longer in a relationship. She found herself wanting sex with a variety of people in a variety of ways. She didn’t know what sex was supposed to be like after 40 or what it took to release her own pleasure. She DID know she wanted men to want her and her body. She craved validation and she found it through sexual encounters. She was able to let go of her body image insecurities, to let go and enjoy.   Go Solo!
