On this amazing episode we talk about finding your identity and caring your path in the sync space. We also talk about using emotion to push a message and what being the male Lizzo means. We also get into what labels are looking for and how to make your tracks even more suitable for sync. Make sure to listen to the end because this podcast is AMAZING James's Bio: James Gardin is a musician who's been around the block...a few times. With a 20-year career under his belt, this Lansing, Michigan native has seen it all - from playing to empty bars to performing with big-name artists like Bryce Vine, Jack Harlow, KING, MURS, Macklemore, and Quinn XCII. Gardin's music has been featured on TV shows and films like ESPN's " First Take , CW's "All American," ,"Queen Sugar," Bloom, and "Block Party," proving that he's not just a one-hit wonder. And if that's not impressive enough, he's also had his tunes played on Hot97 - you know, the radio station that's heard by more people than a screaming toddler in a quiet restaurant. But what really sets James Gardin apart is his niche. He creates empowering, encouraging music for TV, film, and fans alike, all while using faith as a sonic/lyrical foundation. If you're looking for a musician who's got talent, heart, and a sense of humor (because let's face it, he's got to have one to have lasted this long in the industry), then look no further than James Gardin. We had the pleasure of interviewing EVAN GIIA about her journey in music and upcoming performance at M3F Fest over Zoom video!M3F Fest, North America's most celebrated non-profit music festival, has announced the lineup for the highly-anticipated 2023 edition at Margaret T. Hance Park in downtown Phoenix, Arizona from March 3-4. M3F donates 100% of festival proceeds to charity with a record $1.2 million donated last year and $4.4 million donated since 2004.Beyond the lineup, M3F has also announced the launch of its new M3F Fund. Expanding on their current charity focus, the festival has opened up funding to the public by offering an open application to non-profit or 501(c)(3) organizations that have clear objectives and a measurable way to assess progress. All organizations must submit a detailed plan of the requested amount of funding and how it will be allocated and a project timeline. The festival prioritizes funding related to the four primary pillars of its organization, which are Community, Education, Arts, and Environment. This expanded approach also provides more transparency to attendees with an updated process that requires organizations to provide a more detailed list of how they intend to use the funds, following up throughout the year to check in on where donations went to and creating a short video that details how the money was spent once. Attendees also play a key role in the M3F Fund. When fans buy a ticket to have a great time with their friends, they are also giving back to the community around them.M3F's lineup will once again bring together an eclectic group of artists across the worlds of indie, pop, R&B, electronic, and more. This includes the beloved Grammy-nominated vocalist Maggie Rogers, forward-thinking English beatmaker and producer Jamie xx, French electronic duo Polo & Pan, Detroit singer Quinn XCII, and the off-kilter sounds of the multi-talented Toro y Moi.Additional highlights include and German disco & house producer Purple Disco Machine, Mom + Pop signee Ashe, Nashville indie-rockers COIN, Connecticut pop and electronic singer Chelsea Cutler, the addicting sounds of Canadian indie favorites Peach Pit, Australian electronic producer Hayden James, Brit Awards “Best Dance Act” winner Becky Hill, and much more.Originally spawned as a team-building exercise for its producers, Wespac Construction, the festival acts as a philanthropic flagship for the City of Phoenix. The 2022 edition of M3F raised 1.2 million for charity, which doubled the amount of their previous edition in 2020. This included donations to organizations like the Music Therapy Program from Phoenix Children's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Backline, Artist Advocacy Foundation, United Way, Arizona Helping Hands, Saving Amy, and more.M3F also partnered with Tonic to put on a block party in Phoenix to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event was free and featured music from Whethan, Surf Mesa, and thom.ko. This partnership with Tonic will see them donate $1 from every can sold in the state of Arizona during October to the Wendt Family Breast Cancer Program at St. Joseph's. Donations will ensure community members have access to the best breast cancer care possible, allowing more patients to receive life-saving treatment.Beyond music and charity, M3F also focuses its attention on sustainability with over 80% of waste being recycled each year. Guests can also enjoy an amazing variety of food and beverage offerings, art installations, and activities with more details to be announced ahead of M3F.Tickets for M3F are now on sale and can be purchased through their official website. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing carbae over Zoom video! carobae, the moniker of Nashville writer, artist and producer, Caroline Baker, released her debut album scared to go to sleep, due out now via too drunk for a tuesday records / STEM. Recent single, “he'll never know” starts off with carobae's acoustic guitar strumming to her aching ethereal vocals speaking to an old lover about past issues that are of no concern now that she's in a better place b/w the soft loud chorus to the very dark “stab my back.” “he'll never know” is completely written and produced by carobae herself. In the simplest form, “he'll never know” is about freedom from who I'd been in past relationships because now I've found someone who doesn't need me to change who I am or my needs for their own. I wrote and produced this song alone a little over two years ago when I had done a lot of personal growth and realization that I deserved to be with someone who didn't treat me like an afterthought or burden. I've been holding onto this song for a while now, and I'm still with who I wrote it about - he's eve playing drums on the record. In the past I've released a good amount of music about one-sided relationships and not feeling like I've been enough, and “he'll never know” coming out now feels like the perfect follow up to those old stories I've told. I think everyone needs to hear that there's love out there that you don't have to bend over backwards for and that you deserve simply by just existing. – carobaescared to go to sleep's tracklist is comprised of the indie pop singer-songwriter confessions from the heart, with candid and colorful songs written and produced solely by carobae as well as songs co-written and co-produced with Brandon Shoop (sophie cates, Quinn XCII), Sean Kennedy (UPSAHL, Role Model, Nessa Barrett), Lauren Mandel (LØLØ, TALK, Maggie Lindemann, MOTHICA), Raziel (Siiickbrain, Poutyface, Slush Puppy) and Megan Redmond (Taylor Edwards, Charlotte Sands, Taela). With this single and prior singles, title track “scared to go to sleep” b/w “if I don't leave the house, “till the day i ___” b/w “every time i close my eyes,” which was included in Consequence's “Song of the Week” and “dead ends/happy endings,” carobae released b-sides that complement the tone and theme of each single. With the release of “scared to go to sleep,” carobae launched new merch items, releasing “behind the song” videos on her YouTube showing fans how she produces and writes each song, and giving fans “restless pages” designed as an activity book to be done while one is listening to the new songs. scared to go to sleep is a shift from carobae's relationship/heartbreak songs fans are familiar with, showing them a new kind of heartbreak sound – heartbreak from the world. carobae first started releasing her own music in 2019 through a handful of EPs starting with songs from 3am, followed by The Longest Year: Part One in 2020 and in 2021 she dropped The Longest Year: Part Two. These early releases earned her raves from NYLON, Ones to Watch and Alternative Press. Along the way, she's garnered over 40 MILLION streams on Spotify, who featured her on a billboard in downtown Nashville and featured her songs on numerous playlists including New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, Fresh & Chill, Indie Pop, and more. We're speaking with Mutual Friends founder, Jesse Coren! Jesse Coren is the name behind some of your favorite artists—Jeremy Zucker, Chelsea Cutler, Quinn XCII, and ayokay. He founded Mutual Friends, a New York-based artist management company partnered with Visionary Music Group, in 2017 after a decade at dGi Management. Coren says the mission of Mutual Friends is to “bring good to the universe through art and music” and support the artists on his roster. Mutual Friends is now a team of four, but it didn't start out that way: Coren was initially the sole manager for his clientele when he started up the company and continues to expand his team. Over years of working for management companies, Coren has amassed extensive knowledge on every aspect of the music and creative industries, especially the drastic ways it's changed largely due to the rise of social media platforms. Music You're Missing spoke to Coren about social media, independent artists, work-life balance, advice for aspiring managers, philanthropy, and more. Ayokay on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 6/7/22 About Ayokay - Alex O'Neill, aka Ayokay, is a Los Angeles-based DJ/producer known for his effusive pop, hip-hop, and R&B-influenced EDM. He scored two Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs hits, including 2016's "Kings of Summer" with Quinn XCII and 2017's "The Shine" with Chelsea Cutler before releasing his debut album, 2018's In the Shape of a Dream. An EP, We Come Alive, arrived in 2019, followed by the 2021 single "I Still Need You." A native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Ayokay first began making music in his senior year of high school, collaborating with longtime friend Mike Temrowski (aka Quinn XCII). The duo continued to develop their sound after high school, with O'Neill attending the University of Michigan and Temrowski Michigan State University. In 2016 they released the single "Kings of Summer," which was quickly adopted as Texas Rangers outfielder Ian Desmond's "walk-up" song. The track took off (reaching number 16 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart), and helped land the duo a deal with Columbia Records. Around this time, Ayokay relocated to Los Angeles to focus on his career. A year later he delivered the solo single "Shine," featuring singer Chelsea Cutler. It cracked the Top 50 of Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart. In 2018, he issued his full-length debut, In the Shape of a Dream, which included the singles "Sleepless Nights" featuring Nightly, and "Stay with Me" featuring Jeremy Zucker. More tracks followed, including "Things Fall Apart," "Move On," and "Sleeping Next to You," all of which arrived in 2019. Also that year, he released the EP, We Come Alive. The single "I Still Need You" arrived in September 2021. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. This week's guest on The Road Trip Playlists Podcast is Noah Kahan. Noah is one of my favorite musicians. His two newest projects, with his EP 'Cape Elizabeth' released in 2020 and his sophomore album 'I Was / I Am' released in 2021, are two releases that I can't stop listening to. The releases add to his already impressive catalog that has logged over a billion streams with Certified Gold tracks like 'Hurt Somebody' featuring Julia Michaels. He has also collaborated with artists like Chelsea Cutler, Quinn XCII, Gryffin, and more. I had the chance to see Noah Kahan perform live at the New York City venue Webster Hall following the interview. Read about my experience on the Road Trip Playlists website here. It was the first step on a very successful musical journey that eventually saw him come to the attention of Rough Trade founder, Geoff Travis. Travis had already signed and nurtured an act fronted by Welshman Green Gartside, called Scritti Politti. Travis saw the potential in both men and they soon began a fruitful career as part of the second incarnation of the band. Two globally successful and critically-acclaimed albums followed, Cupid & Psyche '85 and 1988's Provision before the band dispersed, a move brought on by Gartside's overwhelming distaste for the industry.During that period, Gamson spent time producing, writing and arranging for the likes of Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Luther Vandross, occasionally with Green at his side. However, after a painful, drawn out experience recording Provision, David decided to establish himself more as a producer and writer than a band member and his first post-Scritti effort was for Tony LeMans on Prince's Paisley Park Records label. His work as a staff producer at Warner Bros saw him working with Roger Troutman, Sheila E., George Benson and another stint with Chaka Khan. Gamson's work with Meshell Ndegeocello saw him nominated for multiple Grammys. After going independent, David found himself working with Green again on Provision's follow up, 1999's 'Anomie & Bonhomie', this time solely as producer. After this, he turned his hand to film and TV, working alongside Hans Zimmer on Mission Impossible 2.More recently, he has focused on songwriting and has worked with a number of high profile artists including Kesha, Adam Lambert, Jessie J and Quinn XCII. Most notably, he received a songwriting GRAMMY nomination for his work on ‘Stronger' by Kelly Clarkson, a track which sat atop the Billboard Hot #100 for three weeks as well as many other charts worldwide. His work with Charlie XCX, a leading figure in the new PC Music/Hyper Pop genre, came about in no small part due to the fact that Cupid & Psyche '85 is held in very high regard in those circles. He also co-wrote and produced two new tracks for Scritti's Absolute 'best of' compilation with his old friend, Green Gartside, delighting fans of the band worldwide.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_GamsonRob Puricelli BiogRob Puricelli is a Music Technologist and Instructional Designer who has a healthy obsession with classic synthesizers and their history. In conjunction with former Fairlight Studio Manager, Peter Wielk, he fixes and restores Fairlight CMI's so that they can enjoy prolonged and productive lives with new owners. He also writes reviews and articles for his website, failedmuso.com, and other music-related publications, as well as hosting a weekly livestream on YouTube for the Pro Synth Network and guesting on numerous music technology podcasts and shows.
