When was the last time the media, the selectors, the commentators, or even the coach could speak their mind freely or take a hard call in relation to an Indian superstar? India's anchor-heavy T20 World Cup squad selection was followed closely by the Virat Kohli - Sunil Gavaskar spat, bringing back attention to the uneasy power that the holy cows of Indian cricket hold. Is this unique to India? To cricket? Are the fans to be blamed? Is there a way out? Sharda Ugra joins the gang this week to dissect why the stars reign supreme in the country of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth (and Amitabh Kant). Shownotes: 1. This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' we are discussing perhaps the Bollywood-est of all Bollywood films, one of the biggest hits of Shah Rukh Khan's career: Om Shanti Om. To discuss the film Abbas and Urjita are joined by actor, content creator, dancer, Bollywood superfan and overall fun person Priyam Saha. Topics discussed include: The many homages and easter eggs of the film, the meta nature of the film, the 'Deewangi' song which features half the film industry, our memories of watching OSO the first time, the stupendous music by Vishal-Shekhar, the minor pitfalls of the film and a lot more.Follow Priyam here: https://www.instagram.com/priyamsahaFollow 'The Goddess Hour' here: https://www.instagram.com/goddesshourincFollow Abbas here: https://www.instagram.com/abbasmomin88/Follow Urjita here: https://www.instagram.com/urjitawani/Get early access to ‘Has It Aged Well?' audio episodes on Amazon Music, Subscribe to the feed: https://music.amazon.in/podcasts/24d527b5-0544-4bd6-a7ff-073fa72d846a/has-it-aged-wellSubscribe to IVM Pop's Youtube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@IVMPopFollow IVM Pop on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ivmpop/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to Top of the Morning by Mint, your weekday newscast that brings you five major stories from the world of business. It's Friday, April 19, 2024. My name is Nelson John. Let's get started:Markets continued to fall for the third consecutive trading session. Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty both fell by about 0.6 percent. Markets aren't likely to be any better tomorrow, if the annual results for Infosys are anything to go by. Infosys reported that revenue increased by only 1.4 percent over the previous financial year. FY2025 doesn't look much better either: revenue is likely to grow less than 3 percent. Analysts remain disappointed, write Shouvik Das and Jas Bardia. Marginal increase in revenue, lower profits, and poor future projections: the situation is not kind for Infosys right now Let's talk about Infy's rival, TCS. India's largest IT company is now assessing in-office attendance as part of its appraisal system. Jas Bardia reports that TCS employees who attended office regularly received much better annual pay hikes than their colleagues who chose to work from home frequently. An executive from TCS told Jas that the IT giant has been nudging its employees to come to office regularly for more than 15 months. That led to a directive in January, where everyone was asked to come to the office all five working days of the week. Those who chose to ignore that notice are now facing the consequences. In most parts of India, summer came early — and it seems, is here to stay. But the weather department's prediction of a bountiful monsoon season provides some much-needed hope. Of course, the IMD's weather predictions have often been mocked for being wrong. Sayantan Bera explains this year's prediction in his primer. A healthy monsoon would provide relief to India's sluggish farm economy and poor rural consumption. Equal distribution of rains is more important than the quantity of rainfall, Sayantan writes. That would help in reducing food inflation too.Foxtrot nuts are touted as a healthy alternative for snacks like chips. Now, they are being sold the world over, but closer to home, we might recognise them as makhana . Believe it or not, these white, fun to eat pops actually originate in muddy waters. About one lakh families from Bihar are the only ones engaged in the farming and harvesting of the foxtrot nut, writes Alisha Sachdev. But, makhana could emerge as the next big thing in India's 20 billion dollar snacking industry. Makhana goes up against millets in the health foods category, but is already bigger than the pulse in terms of sales. As more FMCG companies venture into selling makhana, industrial processing might soon propel it in everyone's kitchens as a healthy snack to have with your evening tea.Baahubali, KGF, and RRR had Indian audiences flocking to a movie theatre to watch vernacular movies. But the filmmakers of these movies chose to dub it in Hindi, English, and other languages, making it an easier sell. However, Manjummel Boys, a Malayalam movie, is now bucking that trend: it recently grossed more than 200 crore rupees. The makers of this movie chose not to dub it in any other language. Manjummel Boys is part of a slew of low-budget movies from southern India that are doing well, despite little or no dubbing, writes Lata Jha. Earlier, such movies rarely got a pan-India release unless they starred huge stars like Rajnikanth or Ram Charan. With the success of these movies, perhaps a good story wins over any language barriers. We'd love to hear your feedback on this podcast. Let us know by writing to us at feedback@livemint.com. You may send us feedback, tips or anything that you feel we should be covering from your vantage point in the world of business and finance. That's all for today. Thank you for listening. We'll be back next week with a fresh episode of Top of the Morning. Have a nice weekend!Show notes:Infosys projects bleak market to continue this year with paltry growth guidanceNot been regular to the office? Here's what India's largest IT company didThe 2024 monsoon forecast has a hidden warningMade in Bihar: How superfood makhana works its magicManjummel Boys sets a new trend for southern films: mega success at home
This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' Abbas and Urjita are revisiting the wild big budgeted sc-fi swing that Shah Rukh Khan took in 2011 with 'Ra.One' directed by Anubhav Sinha. To talk about the film they're joined by Youtuber and film nerd Anmol Jamwal AKA Jammypants4 making his second appearance on the show. Topics discussed include: The mismatch of good VFX and poor story, why Tamil films get sci-fi/fantasy right more than Hindi cinema, the broad stereotyping and broader comedy attempts. SRK's fascination with technological advancements, why the banging music deserved a better film, and much more.Check out the ZNMD episode of HIAW here: https://youtu.be/H0JF58eFMnI?si=2c8E_oh4bqNCblfCSubscribe to Anmol's Youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgbzclo4Mfy_D68w_Bm_xHgFollow Anmol on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jammypants4/Follow Anmol on X: https://twitter.com/jammypants4Follow Abbas here: https://www.instagram.com/abbasmomin88/Follow Urjita here: https://www.instagram.com/urjitawani/Get early access to ‘Has It Aged Well?' audio episodes on Amazon Music, Subscribe to the feed: https://music.amazon.in/podcasts/24d527b5-0544-4bd6-a7ff-073fa72d846a/has-it-aged-wellSubscribe to IVM Pop's Youtube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@IVMPopFollow IVM Pop on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ivmpop/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Girish Mathrubootham – founder and CEO of Freshworks – feels strongly about having the authority to take one's own decisions, from a young age.He made a very apt example in our conversation with him earlier this month at his office in Chennai: a kid never gets to make his own decisions, even if it is to just order food of their liking. This in turn translates into their adulthood as an inability to make decisions.Girish has been out there making most of his decisions for himself from a young age, including which school he would go to, which college he'll enrol in and having a say in most of his major life decisions. The biggest learning he got out of this: understanding the consequences of your actions and reflecting on them to see the untapped opportunities that lay ahead. And once he got good at that, he became adept at learning so that he could do something about the untapped opportunities.Girish isn't just the CEO of a NASDAQ-listed SaaS company, he's also deeply involved in SaaSBoomi, a community that calls itself The World's Largest Pay-it-forward Community of SaaS Founders. As one of SaaSboomi's founding members, Girish played a big role in shaping its culture of openness and paying it forward. He did it by sharing in detail the methods and tactics that got a young Freshworks to $1M in annual revenue. Then, a few years later – as he explained – he took Freshworks from $1M to $5M.How often do you see a company explain their growth playbook to a possible future competitor and enable them? It's rare.Girish also doesn't limit his wish to pay-it-back just within the SaaS universe. He's also out there with a mission to build world class champions from the football academy he set up, FC Madras. He's infused 100 crores into his academy for the game he loves because he knows the talent is there and it needs to be nurtured properly and in the future we might have a shot at the world stage.Welcome to part 2 of our conversation with Girish. This episode too, like the first part, is filled with colorful quotes and examples ranging from Steve Jobs to Rajnikanth movies! This is episode 43 of First Principles–The Ken's weekly leadership podcast. Let's get started.

Starring superstar Rajnikanth as the titular Muthu, it follows him as he is tasked with babysitting his boss' fiancee which causes him to learn the truth about his entire life. It's a story that's Shakespearean in scope but also happens to feature Hong Kong-style action, musical numbers, and a chariot chase for the ages. The Projection Booth's Mike White and Mondo Heather's Heather Drain join Chris to talk about Rajnikanth, his expansive career, and that wild chariot chase scene. In this episode, we review the 2021 Netflix movie, "Meenakshi Sundareshwar," by Dharma productions. The movie about a young married couple set in the town of Madurai, Tamil Nadu could've been an insight into a newer generation owning the rich culture of the region while navigating modern relationships. Instead, it played out as a cheap ploy to attract Indian audiences captivated by movies from South India by wooing them with stock-image level narrative of food, clothes, and of course, Rajnikanth. We take the conversation forward by discussing some tropes that have plagued our cultures Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, and other parts of South India. And also, sometimes it's a 'veshti' not a 'lungi'. Also, once in the episode we say 'misappropriation', it should be 'cultural appropriation'. Bonus: Learn about our pet peeves while watching bad movies. Related Links: Indian Express on Meenakshi Sundareshwar: Meenakshi Sundareshwar is an inauthentic, stereotypical take on Tamil culture. So, what's new? DNA: Is Bollywood finally taking the 'Marathi manoos' seriously?

Dinesh Mohan is a Model & Actor by profession. He entered the modeling industry a little too late than others in the industry, but age is just a number and the 62-year-old model has proven it. Stuck with a personal loss, there was a time when he was completely bedridden, weighed 130 Kgs and couldn't stand up. But one encounter with his brother-in-law motivated him to change his life around. He has had a remarkable journey from being overweight in 2014 to becoming fit. Today, you might spot him walking on the ramps for the biggest designers but his journey from a man who was bedridden to being a successful model, is an inspirational one, to say the least. He has worked with the likes of Salman Khan and Rajnikanth. Watch this video to know how you can overcome depression and how you can live your life to the fullest. This week's Awful & Awesome has our hosts reviewing Rajnikanth-starrer Kaala and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Rajyasree talks about the Netflix series, The Staircase, which is a documentary on a murder investigation spanning 16 years. Abhinandan has some thoughts to share about the latest World Cup anthem. Rajyasree also discusses, “ABC sticking their neck out” for Priyanka Chopra in the latest Quantico controversy.Abhinandan seems to be a little late to the Veere De Wedding party but can't resist sharing his views on it. He says, “I enjoyed it. I didn't think it was great and I didn't get knocked out." He mentions the weakness of the film being that “it's made by a guy, so it is his kind of view” about women. He adds, “While it set out to be Dil Chahta Hai, it ended up being Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara."Getting to the films, Rajyasree states, “This is the first Rajinikanth film I have watched...it was surprisingly understated." Abhinandan sheds light on the plot of the film and says, "There is a character Kaala, who is the head of a slum, Dharavi, the largest slum...and his battle against a powerful politician/ builder." Rajyasree lauds the director for his explicit politics portrayed in the film. Abhinandan agrees that it is a “very brave film to make”.Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is next on the list. Abhinandan is definitely unimpressed. He calls it a “really crappy film” that “sucked like a vacuum cleaner”. Abhinandan talks about the Jurassic Park concept that moulded itself into a movie in 1993 and how the portrayal of the same thing has worn out the content and the audience. He adds, “Now its just a money-making thing."The suicide of chef Anthony Bourdain has left both Rajyasree and Abhinandan stunned. Abhinandan talks about Bourdain's life on the road and the possibilities of that contributing to his depression. He adds, "(It is) lonely being on the road." Rajyasree informs us that “he had referred to his depression” in an interview before. She mentions, “He was a very intense man.”The release of the new World Cup anthem, ‘Live it up' sung by Nicky Jam, Will Smith and Era Istrefi hasn't impressed Abhinandan much. Rajyasree says, “I only remember Shakira and Ricky Martin had sung one." Abhinandan informs, “World Cup anthems, there is no system for them to be chosen." He also adds, “If your song gets picked, the whole fucking world knows you." Rajyasree fangirls over Will Smith. She also talks about ‘Soccer Aid' started by Robbie Williams in 2006 through which “they raise money for UNICEF…these players play for free”. Abhinandan says, “Football does so much good in the world”.Netflix series, The Staircase has got Rajyasree raving over how good it is! According to her, the documentary “has been shot over 16 years….first 8 episodes were originally aired in 2004”. Like other murder mysteries, this also doesn't really have a conclusion” but it is “spectacular the way they follow the family and the case, Rajyasree says. Abhinandan talks about the nature of documentaries and what adds to their credibility. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Welcome to Episode 22 of the Khandaan podcast in which we welcome Dr. Sunny Singh, writer, academic, and co-founder of the UK’s Jhalak Prize for writers of color. Her latest book, Amitabh Bachchan, is now available from the BFI. In this episode, we deviate slightly from the usual in that our main movie is one that just made its debut – Vijay Krishna Acharya’s unsanctioned take on Pirates of the Caribbean: YRF’s Thugs of Hindostan (2018) starring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub. Despite being universally panned within hours of its first screening by critics and audiences alike, in a true testament to our unique brand, we have successfully assembled a panel of viewers who managed to unironically enjoy this film (except Amrita, who in addition to being the resident wet blanket, also elected to go on holiday instead of making the trip to the theater). Join us as we discuss whether this film is a worthy successor to the films of Manmohan Desai (Sunny), or Vijay Krishna Acharya belongs in the same bracket as Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder (Asim, batty as usual), something-something-yawn (Sujoy), and Aamir jokes that are too mean (even for Amrita). We also discuss a few trailers – the already controversial Kedarnaath with Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan; 2.0 with Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar; and, of course, Zero starring all who are dear to Asim. Keep a ear open for Sujoy as he tries to save his skin after Asim paints a large target on all of us. If there are movies or guests you would like to see featured, do remember to drop us a line at upodcasting@gmail.com. Why Kaala is a must-watch - in any language - and how Pa. Ranjith successfully manages to make 2 films co-exist in one: a typical Rajnikanth potboiler alongside gripping political commentary. Also, we discuss the reaction to the trailer of 'Dhadak' and why people are just so outraged about it.

“You can't get bigger than Messi,” Anjana Reddy says. Less than two weeks ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Reddy, founder of Indian fashion company Universal Sportsbiz Private Limited (USPL), reflects on her entrepreneurial journey from a sports e-commerce brand to a national fashion industrialist. A sports fanatic and forward-looking business mogul, Anjana left her town in Hyderabad to attend university in the US, where she discovered something she had never seen before in the Indian market: Dogs wearing team jerseys at sporting events. Well, everyone wearing team jerseys - and drinking from team-branded beer mugs. At pep rallies, football games, and after-parties, every single attendee had a way to let you know exactly which team they were supporting. That's when she struck gold and decided to combine her two favourite things. With India's craze for the game - whether that's cricket, football, or entertainment - Anjana decided to bring the business model to India in early 2012 through Collectabillia.com, a celebrity-based e-commerce merchandise and memorabilia brand. For this brand, she signed legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rajnikanth. In 2014, she even managed to sign Lionel Messi right before he played the World Cup (despite a run-in with the Spanish Embassy; you'll have to hear her story to believe it). After her initial success, she developed her business even further, scaling it to include women's fashion and youth-oriented clothing in both online and offline markets with WROGN and Imara. Though she was unfamiliar with the clothing industry, one of the oldest trades in the country, she spent nights studying the entire process from yarn to final product at factories, and analysed the market for years in order to position her brand effectively. USPL is a lesson in market disruption, customer valuation, and how a little entrepreneurial drive can make a world of difference. Join us as Reddy, now on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list, discusses the importance of market analysis, distribution, and funding. And don't forget your Accel-themed beer mug. (We're kidding, but, Anjana, let's work on that?)

The always entertaining ODB (Ol' Dirty Baklava) is back for another episode. The guys talk about electrocution experiences, homeless appendages, and the mutant powers of Rajnikanth. They also get into house lizards, clown phobias, and recovering from animal attacks. See the theme? THERE ISN'T ONE!
Ramc, Ajay & Vathsalyan talk about a 'Thathuvam' song from Padaiyappa in the 5th episode of Potri Paadadi Ponne. What do gold dust & barley have in common? How is this song inspired from Bhagavad Gita? There's also Prasanna, a Rajnikanth fan, who tells us how this song gives him goosebumps.
