Way too often we just settle with having these amazing feelings or thoughts to create 1. Initial Excitement - You have a great idea and feeling to do something, but that's about it. Maybe you just watched an inspirational video or something of that nature. It sounds great. You feel what it is like to have that, and it feels great. Lately I've realized that I mistake these feelings for the real thing. Then I fall short.Catch it early.2. Capturing it on Paper- Write it down in journal or share it with someone else3. Following Up - Talk with accountability partner or look back at journalYou have sold yourself on that idea.Maybe you've done door to door sales before. You can be very excited about the product but that alone it's going to get the customer to take action. Having a plan and helping them take action and follow through will go a long way. Sometimes you do need to keep following up, try new things, and rinse and repeat. It sounds boring but I've learned tons from just following up with myself on my goals! It reminds me what I'm working towards, and helps me forget the things that are not as important.4. Reaching It - Following Up Leads to it (or obviously you may need to just adjust your goal, it's up to your discretion.PS: Apologies that this isn't closer to six minutes long (like the other mini episodes are). This season’s premier European competition is poised to be particularly explosive given the truncated pre-season, current defensive record of Premier League clubs and fixture congestion. This exercise definitely reaffirmed to us just how little we know about the intricacies of other leagues, but we hope you’ll agree with at least some of our predictions. Trigger Warning: At about 2 minutes in, Deondre' gives a graphic description of the Golden State Killer's violent attacks on victims in California. You might have heard the story of how police used the DNA of a relative of the Golden State Killer to catch him back in April 2018. Since that case, many true crime fans (people who follow shows about real-life crime cases, both solved and unsolved) have advocated for 23 and Me and other biotech companies that collect genetic data to share more of their data with the authorities so they can perform more familial genetic matching to catch more violent criminals. However, this poses questions about the privacy of our own personal data and whether it makes sense to sacrifice some of that privacy for the "greater good" of security. This is a controversial question in the world of cybersecurity and one that has vast implications for companies like Facebook, where defaulting to encrypted messages in Facebook Messenger would prevent them from working with anti-sex trafficking and anti-terrorism organizations, among many others. Take heed, Theophiloi, because we have some intense and highly specific requirements for your upcoming tabernacle construction this week. That's right: we've wandered out of the narrative section of Exodus and into the part that's mostly about how much the Lord loves acacia wood, with a few extremely famous events strewn among it for good measure. Moses has an exceptionally long conversation at the top of Mount Sinai and we go from "yikes" to "YIKES!" as we cover some Old Testament laws. Plus: the surprising origin of a terrible and ridiculous stereotype! Topics of Discussion: Mardi Gras and its regional food variants, the categories of Jewish Law, The 10x2 Commandments (the Decalogue and the Other Ones), a good joke about a bad preacher, what to do if a donkey falls in your hole, some Very Bad Laws, Punching Your Mom: Just Don't Do It!, Home Alone Doctrine, Witch v. Sorceress, the sin that will make the Lord come down with a sword and kill you His Own Self, the Highlander catalog, a li'l house for God, the Calfatron Swerve. Hymnal: "Exodus" by Bob Marley and the Wailers Offertory: If you enjoy the show, head to ko-fi.com/apocrypals and send us a love offering! We absolutely appreciate it! PS: Apologies for the occasional scratchiness on the recording this time around -- Benito was testing out a new mic!

Baseball's back!  The Cardinals have played a game in the 2018 season!  We should be overjoyed, yet after their 9-4 loss to the Mets, that's not exactly the feeling that is prevalent.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (The Redbird Daily, @amedlock1) talk about all the issues that came out of that first game, from Carlos Martinez's lackluster start to worries about Matt Bowman.  The Cards went out and got Greg Holland for their ninth inning needs.  Was that really necessary?  What does that mean for the club and who gets to find out their seat is now taken?  Jordan Hicks took the expressway to Cardinal fans' hearts as well as the majors.  Is this the best move for the young fireballer?  Finally, Jose Oquendo told the media that Jose Martinez would be the main first baseman going forward.  What does this mean for the musical chairs that is St. Louis's infield and is this a power struggle or shift from the manager?  Plenty of things to talk about this week!   (PS: Apologies if there are sound issues or glitches.  Both Allen and Daniel had various issues while recording this and there's only so much Daniel can do with his rudimentary skills to clean it up.)

As always, this episode features America's favorite segments "Ask the Dads", "Dad Jokes", and "Things You Should Check Out". Six Things My Children Need (Thanks for sharing, Cliff!) My Love - The need to know their father loves them. It's verbalized and shown. My Discipline - Discipline is proof I love our children. You can't discipline other people's children. It says, "I care about you". My Acceptance - My love is unconditional. No strings attached. We accept them no matter what. I will never stop loving them. My Approval - They need to hear me say, "I'm proud of you". My Spoken Belief in Their Life - They need to hear me say, "You can do it." My Active Presence In Their Life - It says, "You matter. The Unbearable Lightness of Being Hungry
Pasi Petanen and Giorgio de Maria - That's Amore, Cafe Paci and Giorgio's Fun Wines

The Unbearable Lightness of Being Hungry

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 1, 2017 47:27

2016 Good Food Guide Chef of the Year (and one-time skilled marksman for the Finnish army) Pasi Petanen was done with pop-ups. He'd scored plenty of acclaim for his one-off Cafe Paci restaurant – which was only meant to stick around for a year, but got extended to two and a half years by popular demand – and he'd also undergone temporary guest stints at Yellow and Auto.Lab, too. But friend and former Gourmet Traveller Sommelier of the Year Giorgio de Maria convinced him to take on one last job before pop-up retirement: That's Amore. Running throughout March at Mecca Alexandria, this limited run of dinners is a collaboration that'll see the sommelier and chef experimenting with what to serve – depending on what's at the market and what's in the cellar. There'll be a lot of back-and-forth adjusting of the dishes and drinks as the two taste and drink their way through upcoming menu concepts. “It's like a ping pong game,” says Giorgio. That's Amore is inspired by a tartare dish that Pasi served in pizza boxes at Rootstock Sydney a few years ago, but the pair is keeping a lot of the information about their pop-up classified so far. Sourdough starter pasta with butter sauce is the only dish they've willingly revealed from the menu so far, although Giorgio (who currently runs Giorgio's Fun Wines) has happily name-dropped what drinks might get served (including a fascinating seaside wine that he once presented in an oyster shell and a wild pear cider that's aged for much longer than you expect). Also in this podcast: they discuss the strange sensation of eating bear meat, how tough it was for Pasi to create ultra-intricate candied parsley for a signature dessert (it was worse overseas recently, where his attempt to re-make it in the UK was a disaster: “It was like trying to spread wet toilet paper.”) and why you might have spotted Pasi making egg sandwiches – or being a golf caddy – for ACME's Mitch Orr lately. Plus, Giorgio's infamous response to eating at Noma Australia (it involved losing some clothes), Pasi riffing on Photato, Ryemen, Pear and Parsley dessert and other cult dishes from his Cafe Paci days and we hear where they both love to eat and drink in Sydney. (As a bonus, Pasi talks about a meal he enjoyed during Beau Clugston's residency at Le “6 Paul Bert”  – it was so next level that it included one of the best 10 dishes he's ever tried. Also, it turns out Sydney chefs are getting seriously name-checked in the French capital – plenty of people were asking Pasi about Saint Peter's Joshua Niland when he was there.) PS Apologies for the background noise – it turns out we accidentally recorded this in the world's loudest place! Pasi and Giorgio are great, so I hope you do persevere and get to hear their illuminating and funny stories. And enjoy the guest cameos at the end of the podcast!
