In this jam-packed episode of Cyrus Says, comedians Punit Pania & Aakash Mehta join Cyrus to break down the wildest headlines of the week. We dive into Mahakumbh’s bizarre Rs 1100 virtual snan—because why wade into the Ganges when you have Wi-Fi? Then, IITian Baba’s failed cricket prophecy gets roasted after India’s epic win against Pakistan (someone tell him Kohli doesn’t read tweets). Speaking of cricket, Hardik Pandya’s rumored girlfriend, Jasmin Walia, steals the show off the field—because what’s a match without some off-pitch drama? Meanwhile, Farah Khan lands in legal soup over a Holi remark, and PM Modi rolls out a fresh financial boost for farmers. On the global front, Germany’s political winds shift as Friedrich Merz takes charge, and the U.S. sees a potential FBI shake-up with Kash Patel in the mix. Plus, an asteroid is heading toward Earth in 2032—don’t panic, Mumbai is safe (for now). Tune in for all this and more, with the usual mix of sharp wit and unfiltered banter!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode Description: Namaste, Bollywood buffs!
Hello, Hello, Hello! In our third (of three!) episodes on Queerness in Film this month, Dhruv invites Queer Academic & SRK and KJo Fanboy Cris Patrick (@limjaeseven) to discuss the one thing he wanted to talk about most, the thing that in many ways defines his Twitter Page - QUEER CODING, READING & CAMP SENSIBILITY IN BOLLYWOOD. We emphasize the words "Coding, Reading, and Camp Sensibility" most because our focus for this episode is on films that covertly (or, at least, less self-seriously overtly) position themselves as queer narratives about queer people. This includes all films written and directed (yes, even ghost-directed) by Karan Johar and Farah Khan. But for the sake of clarity, we focus most explicitly on Johar's work -- "Kal Ho Naa Ho" (2003) for Queer Coding, "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (2001) for Queer Reading, & "Student of the Year" (2012) vs. "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" (2023) for Camp Sensibility. Listen to the full episode to first hear us talk at length about embracing Bollywood Camp (or Campy Bollywood) and its inherent Queer Sensibility. (We use Susan Sontag's "Jottings" on Camp and Jack Babuscio's essay on Camp and Gay Sensibility to form our argument.) And then about particular scenes from each of these films that help define what it means to Queer Code & Queer Read (or Queer Bait)! TIME CODES Embracing Camp Bollywood - [00:00 - 16:21] What is "Camp" (ft. Susan Sontag & Jack Babuscio) - [16:22 - 55:24] What's Your Problem if I Want To Queer Read? - [55:25 - 59:54] Queer Coding in "KHNH" - [59:54 - 01:26:53] Queer Reading in "K3G" - [01:26:53 - 01:52:45] Queer Sensibility in "SOTY" vs. "RARKPK" - [01:52:45 - 02:19:44] Planning a Future Farah Khan Ep - [02:19:44 - 02:32:00] Do hit 'Follow' on Spotify if you haven't already to help the podcast reach more people! This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' Abbas and Urjita are revisiting the wild big budgeted sc-fi swing that Shah Rukh Khan took in 2011 with 'Ra.One' directed by Anubhav Sinha. Breaking down the facts behind a bee sting allergy and more! In this episode, we delve into the world of venom allergies, focusing on allergic reactions caused by flying insects and fire ants. Our hosts are joined by Dr. Farah Khan, who shares her valuable expertise, in explaining the underlying mechanisms of allergic reactions to venom allergies. What we cover in this episode: What types of insects can cause a venom allergy and lead to anaphylaxis; honey bees, bumble bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets and fire ants. Why mosquitos are not a concern for anaphylaxis. What a normal versus an allergic reaction to venom looks like.Local versus systemic reactions. What is the difference, and when do you need to worry that you will potentially have an anaphylaxic reaction. When should you see a doctor regarding your insect bite. Why testing is not straightforward for insect stings (venom allergy): insect sting allergies are rare, and we do not want to over-test. What happens after you have reacted a venom and how to work with your allergist. Only test people who have had an allergic reaction to a sting. Types of tests that would be used once you have reacted to venom. How to determine whether you are a candidate for immunotherapy. Why allergist test for systemic mastocytosis when talking about venom allergies. What to do when you get stung and the best medications to take. How to best prepare yourself to avoid getting stung. Advice to someone afraid of a stinging insect. More information about this episode can be found here: www.itchpodcast.com/episodes/55-venom-allergy

This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' we're tackling what is perhaps THE most path breaking film not just in the gangster genre but whose shadow looms well over the decade of the 90s and beyond. Topics discussed include the early appearances of familiar faces, the trajectory of RGV's career, some legendary improvised bits in the film, how Satya's premiere on TV was a huge event, and was the language of the film really as harsh as we remember? On Dec. 7, 1999, a woman walking her dog noticed a couple burying something among the rocks along Lake Ontario in Etobicoke, a subdivision of Toronto. She waited around and when they left, she went over and looked inside a bag they had tried to bury. Inside the bag she would find something horrific. A hand and forearm, which was later determined to be that of 5 year old Farah Khan. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/the-death-of-farah-khan-and-her-fathers-shifting-story/article741478/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/father-stepmother-convicted-of-murdering-5-year-old-farah-khan-1.496891 https://globalnews.ca/news/6276192/farah-khan-murder-toronto/

Hey Coconuts, This week we discuss Bollywood's Main Hoon Na, which was not only an instant hit when it first came out in 2004, but managed to continue being successful well into present day. This movie has everything, themes that are still very relevant to society, such as family, loyalty and most importantly love. The movie also revolves around the concept of mending the relationship between Pakistan and India which was awesome to see, and if that hasn't sold you to this movie maybe the insane action sequences that defy all laws of gravity will. P.S: Anarkali couldn't control her excitement throughout this recording, she's a huge Shahrukh Khan fan too.

Todays podcast is supported by www.hugstylist.com Discrimination and lack of opportunities for Black, Asian and minority ethnics (BAME) in 2020 is sadly still very real in the hair industry. In light of the recent events around the world, I feel it's the right time to bring you this podcast covering this matter. Joining me for it is Farah Khan, an asian hairdresser who has worked in many leading salons. Sharing some of her personal experiences within the hair industry that includes discrimination and lack of opportunities Farah says, "This conversation is not comfortable but one we need to have." At 16 Farah started her hairdressing with Vidal Sassoon where she spent time assisting Mark Hayes and Edward Darley. On completing her training she went to explore the mainstream hairdressing world further. Unfortunately it was at this point she discovered a very big divide, no diversity and where she was never seen as part of the team. And even more alarmingly she was denied opportunities with some leading salon names and agencies due to her appearance of wearing a hijab (headscarfs) and abaya (loose over-garment). With experiencing such negativity, Farah has become passionate that brands and the mainstream hair industry must make changes. By all becoming more inclusive, diversity being part of the hiring process, not afraid of dialogue and being ready to learn will all help in Farah's mission to encourage those from her community to enter into our more open and inclusive hair industry world. As Farah passionately says, "It is a constant struggle as my community are not fairly represented and hence fewer people entering the industry. I have been campaigning for change for a long time, when I see injustice I speak up and try to educate and create an environment of dialogue." Both myself and Farah hope that this podcast today will start the stepping stone towards change within our industry. A podcast produced by Hairy Media Productions. Farah Khan is one of those directors who came, saw and conquered a space that's heavily powered by testosterone. Direction has always been looked at like a man's world and Farah has managed to turn the tables and is undoubtedly one director who has seen commercial successes like no other. But her journey has been far from smooth. She reveals the struggles she's been through before she made her own mark. How they lost everything overnight and had to sell off everything to fend for themselves. She also speaks about how and when she decided to turn a director and the different kinds of ills she's had to battle. From sexism to fake friendships, she discusses how despite all that, she made her own place in the boys' only club.

Farah Khan, who grew up in a tiny flat the size of her current living room carpet, offers insights in Kaveree Bamzai's book, No Regrets, as do Twinkle Khanna, Sania Mirza, and Smriti Irani, among others. Bamzai's guilt-free woman's guide to a good life tells us what NOT to do on everything from being a mother, to managing money, marriage, anger, and growing old.
Twenty years ago, five-year-old Farah Khan was murdered, chopped up into multiple garbage bags, and dumped along the shore of Lake Ontario in Etobicoke by her father and stepmother. Alan speaks with the officer who handled young Farah Khan's case on the 20th anniversary of her murder. Alan also shares his opinion on Premier Doug Ford's unveiling of former Premier Kathleen Wynne's portrait at Queen's Park and, well, it's a little...awkward.

Episode 33 of the Khandaan podcast brings you one of our favorite movies, 2007’s Om Shanti Om. Directed by Farah Khan, this Shahrukh Khan-starrer was also Deepika Padukone’s debut film. Co-starring (Chowkidar) Kirron Kher as Maa, Shreyas Talpade as Friend, and all of Bollywood as backup, OSO is an homage to Hindi film. Welcome to Episode 24 of the Khandaan podcast. Today we’re joined by Jay Mamtora, founder of [BollyBrit](twitter.com/bollybrit), one of the last few outposts of independent Bolly-focused media on the internet. Join us as we discuss 2014’s Farah Khan-directed glitzy spectacular (?) Happy New Year, starring Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, and Vivaan Shah with Jackie Shroff and Anupam Kher as supporting cast. A heist movie that also tries to be a revenge saga, a romance, a buddy movie, a dance competition movie, and a masala entertainer with nationalist underpinnings, it’s a bit of a mess. We also discuss current Bollywood happenings – from the spate of weddings (Anushka! Sonam! Deepika! Priyanka!) and their gossip quotient, to all the new films coming out. Watch out for our extended debates on Simmba, Kedarnath, 2.0, and more. And finally, just a reminder that we’re back to old and tested ways and you should vote for our next movie [here](https://www.opinionstage.com/asimburney/which-2009-movie-do-you-want-us-to-talk-about-on-the-next-khandaan-podcast).
We re-live 10 years of Om Shanti Om with filmmaker Farah Khan. Khan talks to Anupama Chopra about various anecdotes from the making of the Shah Rukh Khan- Deepika Padukone starrer. The filmmaker also shares various stories of the making of the 'Deewangi' song that saw the likes of Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherji, Priyanka Chopra etc come together to celebrate the movies.
Welcome to Episode 22 of the Khandaan podcast in which we welcome Dr. Sunny Singh, writer, academic, and co-founder of the UK’s Jhalak Prize for writers of color. Her latest book, Amitabh Bachchan, is now available from the BFI. In this episode, we deviate slightly from the usual in that our main movie is one that just made its debut – Vijay Krishna Acharya’s unsanctioned take on Pirates of the Caribbean: YRF’s Thugs of Hindostan (2018) starring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub. Despite being universally panned within hours of its first screening by critics and audiences alike, in a true testament to our unique brand, we have successfully assembled a panel of viewers who managed to unironically enjoy this film (except Amrita, who in addition to being the resident wet blanket, also elected to go on holiday instead of making the trip to the theater). Join us as we discuss whether this film is a worthy successor to the films of Manmohan Desai (Sunny), or Vijay Krishna Acharya belongs in the same bracket as Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder (Asim, batty as usual), something-something-yawn (Sujoy), and Aamir jokes that are too mean (even for Amrita). We also discuss a few trailers – the already controversial Kedarnaath with Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan; 2.0 with Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar; and, of course, Zero starring all who are dear to Asim. Keep a ear open for Sujoy as he tries to save his skin after Asim paints a large target on all of us. If there are movies or guests you would like to see featured, do remember to drop us a line at upodcasting@gmail.com.
