In late June, it was announced that the city of Bend was awarded one of 21 grants given out by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing, also known as PRO Housing initiative. The 21 communities received grants between $1 million and $6.7 million from a pool of $85 million. Bend is the only city in Oregon to receive this grant, which had applicants from over 175 different communities across the country. The PRO Housing grant awardees will use the money to fund programs which identify and remove barriers to affordable housing. Bend received $5 million, half the amount of funding initially asked for, and is in the process of altering the scope of their plan. Mellissa Kamanya, the affordable housing coordinator for the city of Bend, joins us to share more about the grant and next steps.

Man's sin has placed an insurmountable obstacle between himself and God. Nothing man can do will allow him to scale the obstacle or bring it down that he might find his way to God. Rather than man doing the work, God had to do the work. The provision of Christ is the only thing that will carry man to God through the atonement through Jesus' blood. No where is that more evident today than regarding man's inclination toward sexual immorality. Pastor Mollenkopf brings these truths to light in this weighty passage from Numbers 5.
Today, Vice President Kamala Harris and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman announced the Biden-Harris administration is awarding $85 million in grants to tackle affordable housing barriers. The Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing program will help over 20 communities update housing plans, reform land use policies, streamline permits, and increase access to affordable housing. The vice president emphasized the administration's commitment to lowering housing costs, stating every American deserves affordable housing, and this $85 million investment is a critical step towards that goal. "I am proud to announce that we are taking a critical step forward by investing $85 million to help more than 20 communities throughout our country remove barriers to building more affordable housing," said Harris. The program addresses challenges such as high land costs, inadequate infrastructure, and outdated policies, aiming to boost housing supply and provide development support. Todman noted the substantial demand for this funding, with applications from 175 communities across 47 states. The initiative is part of the broader Biden-Harris Housing Supply Action Plan. Additional funding of $100 million will be available later this year. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A major aspect of God's requirements for Israel to dwell with Him was maintaining a clean (vs. unclean) status. Why was this important to God? Have those requirements vanished since Christ has come? What should we even think of such a system? This sermon begins a look at several passages that deal with purity within the camp and drawing near to a holy God.

Dr. Karlene Kerfoot, Chief Nursing Officer at symplr, points out the challenges nurses and doctors face when dealing with technology in the workplace. The disparate systems and lack of data integration make it difficult for clinicians to perform necessary duties and have moments that matter: time to provide the kind of care patients require. Karlene highlights the potential for AI and robots to alleviate some of the inefficiencies in the workflow and the need for frontline staff to be part of the decision-making process to ensure advanced technology solutions meet real needs. Karlene explains, "We do have to deal with the technology to make it easier for people to work. For example, the nurse manager, when they want a staff and schedule, sometimes they have to go through six to eight disparate systems that don't talk to each other. So they have to go into one system and then out, and another system and out, and another system and out. So, at the end of the day, they're quite fatigued and have a lot of technology burden. They don't have time to do what they're supposed to do, which is look at the quality of work with patients and help new nurses." "We have to run those systems by the people who use them because often, when you say to physicians, "Here's a great system." They say, "Well, that's not the way I think. That doesn't work for me." Or if you say to a nurse, "Here's a great system for you." They say, "Well, it doesn't work because we have to do all these workarounds because it doesn't really include everything we want." "We had a little funeral for all the fax machines and put a big black curtain over them so people couldn't use them, and we said, "It's dead." And so that, in a funny way, sort of forced people to see if they could use the computer and not use paper and not use fax machines." #symplr #MomentsThatMatter #Burnout #HealthcareTech #PatientCare #Nurses #HealthTech symplr.com Download the transcript here

Imagine if you could change the very fabric of your reality, simply by shifting your beliefs and emotional perspectives. In our dialogue with intentional manifesting coach, Greg Kuhn, we unpack his belief-raising process, drawing lessons from his personal journey with the powerful statement "I am God". Kuhn unveils his unique emotional reference chart, a tool that has guided his writing and life, steering him towards acceptance and peace. He shares his experience with free form journaling, exploring how defining and understanding emotional perspectives can lead to manifesting improved realities in your life. Then, we delve into a personal exploration of self-discovery, interest, and the emotional side of love and fulfillment. Contrary to the belief that finding joy requires giving up aspects of ourselves, we discuss how it's more about identifying and removing the obstacles that inflict pain. We learn that the path to love and joy might require altering our beliefs, and that the belief raising process can aid us in that journey. What is our heart's desire and what are we willing to pay for it? What coin do we have available as payment? Is our heart's desire our top priority? We can identify our worldly heart's desire, but we can go deeper into what is possible for us. Obstacles have a lot to do with identity. Are we willing to have our identities shaken up? It can be scary to give ourselves to our heart's desire since it will change us. We are not comfortable with the unknown. It is possible to re-language our heart's desire as longing for that which we do not yet know. If we are OK with the unknown, we will be changed forever. There are many words used to point to the longing of the heart. The currency of the heart is adoration. We spend our currency with distraction. A distracted lifestyle is not compatible with the heart's desire. We can intuit and pay for our heart's desire with our greed, lust, anger, etc. We can hide behind a spiritual identity. Everything should be examined if we are serious about removing obstacles. We cannot pay with the will of ordinary mind, which is different than the will of the heart, when it comes to the heart's desire. To produce the heart's desire, paradox is one of our biggest friends. We can't let things fall away if we're repackaging as fast as we can with buffers that we use to hold identity together. A spiritual school can give us tools to create the stamina needed when things fall away. The trick is to keep going, to take another step on the path. Fearlessness, which is to be awestruck, fuels adoration. We don't want our last breath to be, “I wonder if it's time to think about my heart's desire.” Lalitha is a spiritual teacher residing in British Columbia, Canada, who has been a disciple in the Western Baul tradition since 1982. How do you feel when you mean to do something but don't do it. Do you tell people about it? Do you hide it?Nearly no one is acting as much on sustainability as we need to to avoid disaster. Beyond not acting, we aren't facing our inaction. How do you think a globally recognized productivity guy would feel and if he didn't yet do what he said he would? I've talked to people who have loved Oliver's book and columns. I think many would both be surprised if he didn't do something he said he would and would feel bad if they didn't do something they said they would.I love his writing. I consider his views on time and values new and valuable. Others share my views. But he's human, like all of us.I think the sustainability movement would benefit from more up front acknowledging our fallibility but not give up or rationalize and justify inaction. We benefit from learning from out mistakes and keeping going. In this episode, we'll hear how Oliver handles not doing a commitment but not hiding it, complaining, rationalizing, justifying, or giving up.We also cover the behind-the-scenes of writing his book, developing his views, and living them.We also continue the parallel between his views on time and mine on energy.
