This episode is brought to you by stubborn tenacity.   SubT and Beat Kitchen are two of Chicago's favorite music rooms, and for good reason. Both are embedded in their respective neighborhoods (Wicker Park and Roscoe Village, respectively), have warmth and character, and provide consistently great entertainment.   Robert Gomez, owner of both venues, joins me outside Beat Kitchen to talk about the venues and Chicago's live music landscape. Timing is everything: this conversation takes place as SubT revs up its 30th anniversary celebration (#SubT30).   As we chat about the music scene, we snack on Beat Kitchen's delicious steak sandwich and Thai pizza. Both are recommended, but pack some mints.   I really enjoyed talking with Robert; if you have an interest in Chicago's music landscape, this is a must-listen.    ##   CCC is sponsored by Easy Automation. Switching from selling tech to selling homes feels a lot like going from the minor to the major league of sport. The ticket price is larger, the stakes are higher, and the competition is steeper.   This is especially true in this down market, where more people are dropping out than ever before. It's easy for the market to carry you when the going's good, but when things shift, the market won't do you any favors. Real estate is harder right now, but that's something that gets good agents excited.   Why is a harder market better for a lot of agents? How did grinding it out at a cubicle in tech sales prepare our guest for real estate? In this episode, Chicagoland Realtor and leader, Leigh Marcus talks about his journey, the success of his team and how a down market can be a good thing for the industry.   Real estate is really the big leagues for sales. Higher ticket prices, higher commissions, higher everything. -Leigh Marcus   Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode    -Get comfortable with boredom  How did a career in tech sales prepare Leigh to do monster numbers in real estate?    -Pray for it get harder  While many agents fear change in the market, and even changes in legislation that might change our industry, why does Leigh welcome it?   -How to retain superstars  The most talented agents eventually want to become leaders in their own right. How do you keep them excited to remain on your team?    Guest Bio    Leigh Marcus is one of Chicago's top agents and team leaders. With over 2,200 sales closed since beginning his real estate career in Chicago over 15 years ago, Leigh Marcus is as enthusiastic about the city and its properties as he was on day one. “The vast amount of experience I have now has taught me everything,” says Marcus, a real estate Broker with @properties specializing in single-family homes and condos on Chicago's North Side. Working with everyone from first-time homebuyers and sellers to luxury clients, Marcus maintains honest and open communication, tailoring his services to suit their needs. Prior to joining the industry, Marcus worked in technology sales at IBM, CDW and EMC for 15 years. “My previous roles have helped me better understand people because I've worked with so many different personality types,” he explains, adding that he was inspired to make the transition by his wife's success as a real estate agent. “She taught me what it takes to build and keep those client relationships in real estate.” In 2019, Marcus represented the listing that garnered the highest transaction price in Roscoe Village in over a decade. He has been recognized as a top producer by the Chicago Association of Realtors for five years straight and has made the Inc. 5000 list for the past two years.   For more information, head to https://www.leighmarcus.com/.

In this episode, Emmy-nominated and Telly Award-winning Whitney Reynolds talks about helping listeners “fall into hope,” which is her trademark that changed the dialogue for talk TV. She shares from experience, after transforming her challenging childhood. Host John Cerasani says the sincerity and wholeheartedness of Whitney's candor “bleeds honesty.” He also commends her for unbiased, positive messaging that differentiates her from many others.   Topics covered in this interview: Whitney's “dynamic, inspirational connection with her audience,” which she attributes to knowing her gift at a young age. The challenges and successes of owning The Whitney Reynolds Show, and being independent from the networks. Her rise from being on TV at age 23, later growing her own show into 6 markets, and becoming nationally syndicated in 2021. The “God wink” of hosting the public media awards on PBS, and bringing her “mission-based” show there, based on creating “a safe space.” The differences of being on multiple platforms, from her show to other arenas like iHeartRadio. Her commitment to being on TV for the long-term, and her spiritual practice to nurture her soul as she juggles many family and work obligations. The significance of calling herself “Chief Inspirational Officer” at work and at home.   About Whitney Reynolds: Whitney believes in more seats at the table, inspiration in the hard moments, and hope for all.  This mindset for unique programming originally bucked the trend when The Whitney Reynolds Show launched in 2012 on PBS. The show's inspirational mission developed from Whitney's firsthand experience with a challenging childhood. She had the gift to gab and combined that to create a program that flips the script–one that invites viewers to switch seats and feel seen for exactly where they are. She is the Executive Producer, Host and the "Chief Inspo Officer" of the Telly Award-winning and Emmy-nominated Whitney Reynolds Show. Prior to launching her nationally syndicated program, she worked in news for NBC and went on to launch her first talk show on that network. During college at Baylor University she interned for Good Morning America and fell in love with the national stage and its potential reach. When Whitney was just 25 years old she stepped into owning her own show and created Whitney Reynolds Media.  Not being owned by the network truly jump started her entrepreneurial journey. Whitney's business mentor is Melissa Bernstein of Melissa & Doug who, like Whitney, also started her business in an extra space in her home, however it has since grown to a $500M company. Whitney's “safe space” mission however, doesn't stop with her TV program. Since 2013 she has hosted a motivational “give back” segment on iHeartRadio and in 2021 launched a national iHeart Podcast, Pop and Positivity. She also authored Beyond The Interview and has a column in Cancer Wellness Magazine.  Over the years Whitney has helped bring in more than $2-million in fundraising for local and global charities through her media work. She currently sits on the Advisory Council for Dress For Success and is on the board for The Service Club of Chicago. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Whitney has learned how to combine southern charm with big city hustle. Her motto is: “If the door closes, find the darn window.” Whitney lives in Chicago, in the Roscoe Village neighborhood with her husband, Dave, and her twins, Marlowe and Acher, and their shih tzu, Sir Crouton. When she's not on camera, it's guaranteed you will still find her talking, she simply loves people and their stories.   Follow Whitney: Website: https://www.whitneyreynolds.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/whitneyreynoldsshow/about/ Facebook: https://facebook.com/WhitneyReynoldsTV Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whitney_reynolds/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/whitneyreynolds   Follow John: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/johncerasani TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@johncerasani LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/johncerasani   More 2000 Percent Raise Episodes and Content: https://linktr.ee/2000percentraise Produced by: https://socialchameleon.us

Episode 129 – Stephanie welcomes Chicago-based friend and TV show host Whitney Reynolds for a fun, deep, and whimsical conversation to enter 2022. She tells us about her relationship with God, personally and at work, in her family, marriage and kids and through her friends. Her enthusiasm to encourage is deeply inspiring and endearing… and she is such fun to be with! Whitney says she used to be a “stale Christian” in the church—and she didn't even know it. Because she is so cheerful and encouraging, she cruised through life until God called her to a deeper awareness of His presence, and she is enjoying it now, even beckoning us deep within alongside her! She shares about life with 6-year-old twins amidst a whirlwind of life and activity, keeping her eyes on her Lord. We talk about her very personal prayers for her little ones. We talk about the impact of her show all around the world, and in her own heart. God is using her very own show to teach her to embrace Him at a deeper level! Whitney and Stephanie move the conversation to our dreams for 2022. What are our dreams? How do we know they are from God? How do we show up for them? How do we let Him take centerstage? We invite you to join in this conversation of things deep and light too, and to rejoice for what God is in the making of doing in and through you in 2022! Emmy nominated & Telly Award winning Whitney Reynolds' national news background and love for people have been combined to create a show that is changing the dialogue for talk TV. She produces a program that is dedicated to being a safe space for delicate life stories. She discovered this mission first hand through her own difficult childhood. The Whitney Reynolds Show educates, inspires and makes a difference, one topic at a time. What started as an online talk show moved to NBC within its first year. In 2012 the show made strategic changes, which included a shift in focus and move to PBS & eventually streaming on TUBI TV. In 2020 the show was picked up for national distribution by NETA and starting premiering across the country January 6th of 2021. The mission however, doesn't stop with her TV program. Since 2013 Whitney has hosted a motivational “give back” segment on iHeart Radio. She also authored Beyond The Interview and has a column in Cancer Wellness Magazine. Over the years Whitney has help fundraising over 2 million of dollars for local and global charities through her media work. Originally from Oklahoma, she's learned how to combine southern charm with big city hustle. Her motto is: If the door closes, find the darn window. Whitney graduated from Baylor University in three years and moved to New York to intern for Good Morning America. Post GMA, she was a morning anchor in both Oklahoma and Texas. She has since planted her roots in Chicago and lives in the Roscoe Village neighborhood with her husband David and 5 year old twins.   CONNECT WITH WHITNEY https://www.whitneyreynolds.com/ https://www.facebook.com/WhitneyReynoldsTV https://www.instagram.com/whitney_reynolds/   Support us!

We share our conversation with couple Shannon and Greg Buth, learning so much from them about building a business, supporting and inspiring one another, and "never quitting your day dream."Shannon and Greg have known each other since we were just kids, growing up in Minnesota. They are high school sweethearts who found their way back to each other in their late 20’s and now raise an incredible, spirited, crazy crew of four boys together in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood.Check out House of Shan for yourself here!Shannon made a career out of her passion for fashion, and worked for a California based clothing company for most of her 20’s, and then was the very first stylist at Trunk Club. She stepped back from work after the birth of their twins, born just 19 months after their first son. Greg has worked in the trading industry for the last 20 years and has traded everything from Soybeans to Eurodollar options on the floor of the Board of Trade. In January of 2020, Shannon started House of Shan and is empowering others to 'live what you love' on a daily basis. Shannon has designed apparel that includes an imperfect heart on every piece, and this heart signifies a daily reminder to 'live your passion, laugh everyday, love deeply, and to never quit your day dream'. House of Shan donates $5 from every purchase to a women’s charity. The company was founded in January of 2020, and since then Shannon has donated over $20,000 to organizations in their first year!

We pay stylistic tribute to the best hamburger joints in Northwest Indiana, an homage to midwestern flavors and sensibilities. We opened in Spring 2017 and already have several accolades under our belt, including "Best Burger In Chicago" by Chicago Magazine and being added to countless "Best of Chicago" lists. Whether you are a Chicago native or just passing through, you'll be glad you stopped by! Each and every one of our hamburgers is made to order and handcrafted to perfection. We never have and never will use frozen or pre-formed patties and you'll hear some seductive clings and clanks coming from the kitchen. The result is a juicy-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-edges beauty of a burger that extends beyond the confines of its perfectly grilled bun. Odds are you've never seen anything quite like it!

In this episode we dive into the world of real estate development with Michael Skoulsky, president of Stas Development.  Here we listen to a step-by-step break down of the critical thinking behind each new project which includes site selection, underwriting, zoning, financing, development and disposition.  His projects have shaped the landscape of Chicago's hottest neighborhoods like Roscoe Village, Wicker Park, Ukranian Village, Noble Square, Lincoln Park and Logan Square.  Listen as he shares his latest plan to rescue and transform a 116 year old Catholic church into luxury residential units and the challenges he's faced along the way. When NBC's Chicago P.D. approached Mike to shoot at his first real estate project little did he think the scene they shot would soon become a reality.  Hear his story as he finds out while on the airplane headed to vacation that catastrophic events, similar to the shoot, were unfolding.  Also, learn about the surprises behind the walls and how he still manged to successfully sell the project.Guest:  Michael Skoulsky (developer)Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/847mike/Company: Stas Developmenthttp://www.stasdevelopment.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stas_development/Follow The Jon Gil Podcast Show:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jonathanwgil/Listen on Spotify, ApplePodcasts, iHeartRadioCheck out our Partners: El3ment Studios About: Full service media production companyhttps://el3mentstudios.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/el3mentstudiosFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/el3mentstudios/Goldbay AdvisorsAbout: Servicing middle-market commercial real estatehttps://goldbayadvisors.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goldbayadvisorsFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoldBayAdvisors/AUM Capital About: Acquiring value-add multifamily deals throughout the country.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aumcapitalllc/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aumcapitalllc/
