“I grew up my entire life going to church and never knew there was a pro-life movement. And if I would have thought there was one, I would have just assumed that the movement was picketers outside abortion clinics because that's all the media shows us. But the first time I was invited to a pro-life conference, I was blown away. I had no idea that there are thousands of organizations and people that are boots on the ground, helping women be brave and choose life in the most creative ways!" -Amy Ford, Author + President of Embrace GraceGoing through an unplanned pregnancy herself, Amy Ford knows what it feels like to experience shame and loneliness with nowhere to turn to for guidance, support and direction. You'll here her story in our conversation - how God intervened and saved her baby. She married her high school sweetheart, Ryan Ford, and they faced their unexpected pregnancy together. Looking back on that season of brokenness fueled their passion and desire to change things for young women with unplanned pregnancies. In 2008, Amy and her friend Salina, started a small group at her local church that met weekly with girls in that same situation providing support, friendship, guidance and love. A few years later in 2012, Embrace Grace was formed, a national non profit to equip churches all around the nation to have a pro-love focus and help women be brave and choose life. Since then, thousands of women have gone through the Embrace Grace program and were put back on a path towards Jesus. In today's episode, Amy and Sammie talk about what it means to be proactive and pro-life. Here are some things we mentioned in the episode: Help Her Be Brave - Take a quiz to learn how you can use your gifts to get involved in the pro-life movement! // And, find the book here. Welcome to today's episode of our podcast, where we explore the topic of relationship between pastors and youth pastors. We are joined by a special guest, Ryan Ford, who is an ex-youth pastor and current pastor at Grace Fellowship Church in Snyder, Texas. Whether you're a new youth pastor stepping into a leadership role, or an experienced ministry leader there needs to be intentionality on working on the relationship between you and your senior pastor. From a mentor role, to a boss and potentially a friend, this relationship is vitally important to the success of your program in your church... but how do we work towards this relationship (especially if it's rocky) and make it the best that it can be? It's 2002. I've just come up with a brilliant idea with someone I met at a networking event. We're in the right place at the right time as this idea involves the creation of a software application that's never been done before. We get the greenlight to develop this software application for TED. But there's a problem... As a technologist who has written books on Flash programming, I have a vision for how this might work. Yet I'm not a designer. However, I happen to be running a technology conference and know that the best designers and developers in the world are right there! So we ask for the best to come on board and help this idea take shape by creating an email titled, “Want to Play?” in the subject line. Eight weeks later, we unveil this back-of-the-napkin idea to HUGE success! And it is 100% because of the design, interaction with the software, and what the experience felt like for clients. My special guest today, Ryan Ford, has over two decades of experience as a professional, award-winning designer influencing the stories of products, companies, and brands. And today on the Storytelling School Podcast, he joins me to talk about how the world of design and the world of storytelling intertwine. So if you're curious to know: What's the difference between people's perception of design and its reality? How can you cater your story to different audiences when pitching ideas? How does the design process itself parallel storytelling? Then tune in as we cover it all. And along the way, you'll be treated to stories involving anime, outcasts, an ice cream cone-licking sloth, and one movie studio's ability to drive your emotions better than most businesses you'll encounter. What you will learn in this episode: Why design and storytelling go hand-in-hand Why you should look at audience first, then story second How you can successfully reposition a long-told story with a simple change Who is Ryan? Ryan Ford is an accomplished designer and leader with over 24 years of design experience. He's built design teams and helped businesses that have had significant cultural impact such as Chime, Deviantart, and Crunchyroll. Among his many other acknowledgements, he received recognition from the California Senate for contributions to eco sustainability through design. Ryan focuses his time on authoring transformative design thought pieces and mentoring young designers, when not enjoying time in his day job or with his family. Crossfit has been a fitness craze that has swept the world over and has been a big time staple in many of our towns but what can we take away from Crossfit that transcends over to the church world? Located on beautiful Pensacola Beach, Bear Fruit Bowls and Coffee was started with an idea and dream to inspire people to bear fruit in their lives. What does it mean to bear fruit? Founders and owners, Ryan and Alexis Ford believe this depends specifically on each person's own life but ultimately it comes down to three essential pillars: peace, love, and joy. Their hope is when you walk into the shop space you can feel all three pillars and take this with you wherever you go, along with an organic build-your-own açaí bowl and coffee.Ryan and his family are a rarity as they have invited not only an inner circle of friends but an entire community into their story. In my conversation with Ryan we talk about moving from the midwest to the emerald coast as well as making doughnuts to now serving fresh açaí that myself and so many friends are already going coconutty over!
