When Emmy award-winning journalist, KOAA News5 co-anchor, Dianne Derby, arrived as a news anchor in Colorado Springs, she was hungry for approval, affirmation, and connections. She raced from one event to the next, capturing stories, sound bites, but past the microphone she deeply struggled in feeling fulfilled. Everything changed when she met centenarian Jim Downing at a luncheon for World War II veterans. At the time, U.S. Navy Veteran, Lieutenant Jim Downing, was the second-oldest living survivor of Pearl Harbor. At the luncheon Jim asked Dianne an important question that would set the tone for the start of their friendship. Jim shared, “Would you like to meet the most fulfilled person you'll ever know? You're looking at him.” For the next five years Dianne and Jim began meeting every Tuesday, where eventually she invited her followers into their dialogues with dozens of videos on Facebook Live, where viewers could learn from Jim just as she had. With thousands of views, the chats struck a chord with people who were hungry for a meaningful life. Over the course of five years, Jim taught Dianne Derby to slow down; to embrace only what is true, real, and good; and to live a life of significance. Dianne was asked to deliver the eulogy at Jim's funeral when he passed away in February 2018 at age 104. His memorial service was broadcasted across the the world for thousands to honor his legacy. Jim's faith and life lessons live on in Dianne's stories, her friendships, and the significance of her work as a journalist, a mother, a wife, and a follower of Christ. Her first book, “Two Hundred Tuesdays: What a Pearl Harbor Survivor Taught Me About Life, Love, and Faith” is the story of how Tuesday meetings about friendship, leadership, mentoring, parenting, and marriage—and the sacred thread through it all—led to an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Two Hundred Tuesdays releases next week Tuesday May 17th, but you can preorder your copy today!Official show notes available atwww.kohliebrowning.comMusic, "Where the Light Dances" by Yamareehttps://open.spotify.com/artist/7pxDHAwWckKzgQI8xj7yY0?si=41m36DjKRTmmwSGPnlVMRg

Gray played professional football in the NFL for five years with the Indianapolis Colts (1993-1997) and one year with the Carolina Panthers (1998). Dr. Gray began his journey with God, experiencing His faithfulness as as Christ moved in his heart to make Him known.Derwin earned a master of divinity degree with a concentration in apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary under the mentorship of the renowned theologian Dr. Norman Geisler. He also earned a doctor of ministry degree in the New Testament in context at Northern Seminary. Dr. Derwin L. Gray is the cofounder and lead pastor of Transformation Church (TC), a multiethnic, multigenerational, mission-shaped church located in the Charlotte, metro region. He is a popular conference speaker and the author of Hero: Unleashing God's Power in a Man's Heart; Building a Multiethnic Church; The Good Life; God, Do You Hear Me?, Limitless Life, and his new book out TODAY, How to Heal Our Racial Divide: What the Bible Says, and the First Christians Knew, about Racial Reconciliation.Like many of us, Dr. Gray is weary of the racial divide in our society. He longs to see hurts healed, wrongs corrected, and trust replace distrust. The good news is that the Bible has a lot to say about how to heal our persistent racial divides. In How to Heal Our Racial Divide, Dr. Gray walks us through Scripture, showing us the heart of God—how God from the beginning envisioned a reconciled multiethnic family in loving community, reflecting his beauty and healing presence in the world. This message is central to the gospel itself.Cover to cover, I could not put this book down. After picking up How to Heal Our Racial Divide, you won't read the Bible the same way ever again. You will hear me admit this more than a few times in this conversation with Dr. Gray! There is so much to learn from this eye-opening scriptural journey when we as God's people turn from being color blind and embrace being color blessed.Official show notes available atwww.kohliebrowning.comMusic, "Where the Light Dances" by Yamareewww.instagram.com/yamareeofficial/"Wrong" by Dan Henig"Jindupe" by Lauren Dunski

Up and coming artist running alongside Creative Culture Co. and Integrity Music, singer-songwriter, Yamaree brings a unique sound to the Christian/Gospel genre. A local talent to Tri-Cities, Washington, Yamaree, started writing and recording her own lyrics early in life. Though she loved spending time in the studio and worship sets, she learned that pursuing her dreams in music also came with sacrificial cost. As a young adult Yamaree moved to Redding, California with her lungs full of sound, ready to worship. Instead God lead her into a season of unexpected surrender and silence. This story is full of plot-twists I cannot wait for you to take in. Yamaree's is voice is beautifully authentic. Her lyrics are hopeful, but honest, and her heart is open to writing songs that God can use and breathe on. To speak to the young and old, the “Christians” and the “secular.” To draw people to the table with her songs. A table that leads to healing, purpose and Jesus. After listening to our conversation my prayer is that you will look at light a little differently. That you would be deeply moved as light reflects off ripples of water or pours through an open windows. God's presence has a beautiful manner of meeting with us and often it's where the light dances.  Official show notes available atwww.kohliebrowning.comMusic, "Where the Light Dances" by Yamareewww.instagram.com/yamareeofficial/"Wrong" by Dan Henig"Jindupe" by Lauren Dunski

However, this season is different. With every invite sent I faced obstacles of schedule unavailability and tricky timing. Responses from friends were never unkind, it was simply not what I had expected nor what I wanted. I have held this feeling of want frequently this year and sadly, it has often opaqued my beliefs in who God is. More than I care to admit I have engaged with God as though He was a magical wish granter rather than my loving Holy Heavenly Father who knitted me together. I am learning that He cares about what I want, but is more concerned and underserving kind in giving me what I need.On this 'Still With You' Season 4 Finale I am flying solo, showing up, in trust, to talk about this season's highlights, book of Joshua (yes, again), and what to excitedly expect for next year. ‘Still With You' Season 5 will release Tuesday January 18th, 2022.Many thanks…To every amazing guest who showed up eager to share, our faithful partners in prayer, encouraging friends, and fun sponsors this season, you are a solid team. This week on the podcast we are easing into Psalm 105, a chapter written by David, carrying sincere gratitude for all God has done. It opens sharing, “Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim His greatness. Let the whole world know what He has done”. David reminds the reader of the historic, miraculous, and true stories of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses. These three men of the Old Testament were amazing leaders, but also broken, everyday people, just like us, that God still wanted to use. Psalm 105 is overflowing with encouragement to not only exult God's holy name and remember the wonders he has performed, but also to follow his decrees and obey his instruction. Drop a few extra ice cubes in your drink! Or add a second splash of cream, if you favor a hot beverage this time of year? Learning to rest is hard work. Stepping away from notification screens, messy office desks, and lengthy to-do lists demands discipline, patience, and practice. However, the reward of rest is not only refreshing, but Biblical. Every seventh week of ‘Still With You' we sabbath by being in the word of God together.Rather than taking a quick sip of reading a chapter from the Bible, this week we are serving up a whole book! Second Timothy, written by Paul the Apostle, is the second of two inspired letters Paul wrote to his son in the faith, Timothy. This personal letter was written while Paul was once again in Roman prison rearrested as part of Nero's persecution of Christians. Paul wrote this personal letter in a cold cell in chains and with no hope of deliverance. He was abandoned by virtually all of those close to him in fear of persecution or immediate execution. Second Timothy is the last letter in the Bible written by Paul before his death. The man who experienced scales falling from his eyes and the, perhaps, the greatest life transformation of all time would be not be set free from prison, but released to Heaven, dying a martyr for the cause of Chris. If you are eager for a breezy read, accept my apology early! The fact that God would break literal walls to save Rahab and offer her not only a new life of freedom, but also the gift of His word, and the honor of being in lineage of Jesus…AMAZING!! Friends, forget any label you have attached to your life. Cast off the lies you have been told about who you are. Yet, even while walking through shattered glass ceilings it is still easy to struggle with finding your identity.Author and speaker, Simi John , was seven years old when her family moved from India to Dallas, Texas. She grew up attending weekly church services with her family and loved learning from the Word daily. Simi placed her relationship with God above all else and when she felt led to share the good news of Jesus with others she was was met with a resounding “No”. The leaders of the church where we was raised discouraged her from preaching the word of God because she was a woman.Rather than carrying spiritual and emotional scars of being mislabeled and blocked out from using her voice Simi found refuge in scripture. She found healing by intently studying what the Bible says about women and from this wrote I Am Not: Break Free From Stereotypes & Become The Woman God Made You To Be, her first book.Today Simi and her husband Jayson lead New Life Bible Church in Norman, Oklahoma where is passionate about preaching the word of God. Billboard charting artist and music producer, Phil J., is an Alabama native, born and raised in Mobile. His infatuation for music has always been heavy and being exposed to music at a young age brought great inspiration. He was greatly inspired by the music his father played growing up from artists such as: Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Whispers, The Ohio Players, etc. That era of music heavily influenced his singing and how he creates harmonies throughout his music. Around 2005, he was introduced to Lecrae. He was in awe of the fact that there were artists who created music centered around the Christian faith. However, it wasn't until his life was radically changed by a song entitled, “Young” by Andy Mineo. After hearing this song, he was inspired to pursue music as a career. In 2012, his strong interest in becoming an artist became a surreal reality. He released his first mixtape, “The Sponsor” and garnered a good bit of attention. Every since then, his growth has become evident as an artist. With every project he's released since then, he strives to make every project unique and innovative. He doesn't consider himself just a rapper or just a singer, but a culmination of both. He's been cultivating his style of music ever since 2012 and is confident he's found a sound no one else can imitate. He prides himself on taking risk when creating music, even if it's a complete curveball to his listeners, but that's what excites him the most. The process in creating different types of songs forces him to push the envelope as an artist, songwriter, and producer. The fruits of his labor have awarded him. Superstars such as Grant Gustin and Andy Grammer have shared his music to their fans. He's also been able to produce and feature on a song with Christian Hip Hop pioneer, Da T.R.U.T.H.In this conversation with Phil J. we cover his journey of creating music, the excitement of expecting a beautiful baby boy with his wife Shania, and the story behind his latest album Joy. This project is much more than a mix of creative beats and melodies, it carries the message of hope erupting from experiences of severe loss and sadness. “The goal of this album is to give you hope in an extremely dark world. I pray you receive a glimpse of true joy or fully accept it as yours. That's my desire for this album. I've poured my heart out on this project and hope you're encouraged by my journey to finding true joy.” -Phil J.For my friends who have been fighting through grief and learning to practice JOY in unprecedented circumstances this episode is for you. Once identified, there are some immediate resources, but not many and none that are sustainable. They may be given a hotel voucher for a few nights (which could possibly trigger an experience that they had). If a bed is identified, typically it is the closest, available bed, and not always the right environment, program, or situation for the individual. Thus, limiting the probability the individual will complete the program. Four years ago I had the honor of meeting Katie Hawkins and Susan Wanderer at Annie F. Downs' Thats Sounds Fun Weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. I will never forget standing in the melting southern summer heat outside the Grand Ole Opry listening to them share their life experiences of Ethiopian adoption, Military culture, and everything in between. Their gift of sharing encouraging stories and contagious laughter with friends was evident even in this brief moment. No wonder God lead them to launch a podcast a few months later! She Speaks Stories hosted by Susan Wanderer, Portia Allen & Katie Hawkins is more than a podcast with a bright logo. It's a growing community with women of valor who believe stories change lives! This conversation is less like an interview and more like a reunion of friends. Every seventh week of 'Still With You' we practice an intentional time to exhale, breathe, and be in the word of God. During this week of rest we are revisiting the a moment to remember, the Israelites crossing of the Jordan River in Joshua Chapter three. My prayer is for this story wash over you and ease your mind as you are present resting in God's presence. Prop up your feet, stretch, and sip on something icy as you listen along. Rhythms greatly matter to me, not just the ones we love in listening to catchy music, but the ones practice in our everyday lives. Ironically, one of my favorite annual rhythms is actually marriage of these two things, music and life. Every episode of ‘Still With You' is accompanied by a song that is not selected by random, but is shared on purpose for the specific season. Annually, God highlights a song from one of my artist friends, that moves me to closer to Him and I believe this because the words of this song first moved Him.I could not be more honored to be featuring Folk-Indie Artist Gabrielle Grace's song “We'll Be Alright” as the theme music for Season 4 of the podcast. The first time I heard this single I felt its warm words of hope wrap around me like a favorite blanket. It's message rivets with vision and delight for bright days ahead, while also acknowledging life's presence grief. I do believe we can learn to hold both. ✨ I am so thankful for this amazing friend sharing her music with us. Gabrielle is an incredible, generous human being, and beautiful creative artist.Born and raised in a small town in southeast Texas before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, Gabrielle is a singer-songwriter who is committed to telling stories. She believes authenticity and honesty are one of the most important qualities when it comes to music. She released her debut album, “This Beautiful Life” in February of 2019 and is releasing her six song EP “We'll Be Alright” on March 5th 2021.IT'S EP RELEASE WEEK! Pre-save link below

CPC-certified Relationship Coach, Isami Daehn 勇美, carries a passion for empowering millennials and GEN-Z through relationship pain to find their voice after estrangement. Why estrangement empowerment? Have you ever though you would head those two words in the same sentence? I have not and neither had Isami.Being raise in a home where physical and verbal abuse were “normal”, after becoming an adult, moving from Japan to to the United States, Isami's relationship with her parents did not get any better. It unfortunately grew worse and in 2017 she became permanently estranged from her parents. After spending most of her life surviving abuse and to fix broken relationships she truly believed she was “not good enough”, still striving to meet someone else's unrealistic expectations of who she as “supposed to be”. She continually blamed herself for the brokenness she felt.In my conversation with Isami she shares her story of hard work and healing by discovering her true identity in Jesus Christ. From graves to gardens, she today is free from her from pain and finding new beautiful courage within herself everyday. My favorite moment in my chat with Isami is how she describes hearing from Holy Spirit. Hold on to your hearts! It moves me to tears every time I listen.

Have you ever felt like you were not doing enough for God? Do you believe you are failing to reach what you believe God expects from you? You may have heard the phrase “relationship over religion” , three words that attempt to share the true nature of God. He is not a God who rules with an angry fist nor lays our harsh rules demanding we work to earn His acceptance and attention. There are not enough words in any language able capture how the Lord pours out His unfailing love upon us (Psalm 42:18). Yet, so often we formulate ideas of what we believe God needs from us.Laura Lambert is a blogger, podcaster, and speaker based near Nashville, Tennessee. She was raised in home where Jesus was center and truly believed her Heavenly Father truly loved her. Yet, now in her adult life she found herself questioning her faith and realized was focusing on what was "right" and "wrong" rather than resting in communion with God. Everything bloomed when Laura allowed God to weed out religion and hydrate her exhausted heart with real relationship. She even started a podcast where she could talk honestly and encourage others about what she is learning along the journey!Official show notes available at www.kohliebrowning.com Laura Lambertwww.itslauralambert.comMusic, “We'll Be Alright” by Gabrielle Gracewww.gabriellegracemusic.net

One of the most common questions my husband, Chris, and I are asked is, “how did both of you meet?”. While we love sharing, it is not always easy, because our love story is involves a lot of CRAZY twists and turns that only God could write. From a quaint hardware store to crashing into a deer. Spending over 265 days apart in Romania, saying ‘I do' in dress blues, and then immediate having to move. The many details of our military love story are too much for a simple post on social media. This year as Chris and I celebrate five years of being married
