The first time neuroscientist Nicole Vignola held a brain in her hands, she thought that within it lay an entire person's life. This moment sparked a cascade of questions: What makes us who we are? How much do our beliefs shape our lives? Can we rewire our brains to change our habits and improve our well-being? As the author of the book Neurohabits: Break the Loop, Transform Your Thoughts, and Create Lasting Change (2025), she believes the key to it all lies in brain plasticity: “We all have habits and behaviors that hold us back from reaching our full potential. Thanks to neuroscience, we now understand how to change our minds to change our lives.” Nicole Vignola not only explains how brain plasticity works, but also shows how we can use our behavior, attention, and thoughts to make meaningful and lasting changes in our lives. “Changing habits, overcoming fear, breaking the loop of negative thoughts, getting out of the stress cycle… all of that is possible,” she says. And she adds: “If there are habits and behaviors standing in the way of the person you want to become, don't believe you're stuck. With attention and intention, you can become whoever you want to be. The habits you build today will determine who you are in the future.”
"Your thoughts create your reality. If you're stuck in a cycle of negativity, it's not because you're broken—it's because your mind has been trained that way. The good news? You can rewire it. With the right tools, you can break patterns, shift your mindset, and start living the life you actually want." – Ermina Isanovic The post #216 – Ermina Isanovic: Rewire Your Mind, Break Negative Patterns & Create Lasting Change first appeared on The Next Level Guy Show.
Humans inherently have a negativity bias. Our brains prioritize negative stimuli as compared to positive stimuli. And while it may have served us well in the past, today, it only serves to increase anxiety and worry. Research shows that we can rewire our brains to acknowledge the negative and change our perception of it, but it takes practice. To guide us through the practice of positively changing our minds, Harvesting Happiness Podcast host Lisa Cypers Kamen speaks with Neuroscientist and organizational consultant Nicole Vignola. Nicole shares strategies for transforming negative habits into positive perspectives from her book, Rewire: Break the Cycle, Alter Your Thoughts, and Create Lasting Change. She describes the benefits of a growth mindset and the importance of emotions and gratitude.WANT MORE SOUND IDEAS FOR DEEPER THINKING? What’s one goal you want to manifest? Have you tried visualization before? Today, Jay welcomes neuroscientist, executive advisor, and bestselling author Dr. Tara Swart for a deeply engaging discussion on the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience. Tara, author of The Source: The Secrets of the Universe, the Science of the Brain, shares her journey from a dual-cultural upbringing in North London to becoming a leading expert in neuroplasticity, manifestation, and the science of purpose. Tara explains how rewiring the brain through neuroplasticity can help us shift our mindset and align with our goals. She introduces the concept of "magnetic desire," the alignment of one’s head, heart, and gut to pursue authentic and meaningful aspirations. The conversation explores the importance of moving beyond societal noise and external expectations to create a life of abundance, gratitude, and love. Jay and Tara discuss how ancient practices such as chanting, drumming, and spending time in nature have been essential to human well-being for centuries and are increasingly validated by neuroscience today. Together, they unpack how practices like visualization, mindfulness, and connecting with nature are more than philosophical ideas—they are scientifically proven tools for personal growth and transformation. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Rewire Your Brain for Success How to Use Visualization to Achieve Goals How to Balance Ancient Wisdom with Modern Science How to Transform Negative Thoughts into Positive Actions How to Build an Action Board for Manifestation How to Overcome Limiting Beliefs and Self-Doubt How to Create Lasting Change with Neuroplasticity Whether it’s through cultivating gratitude, spending time in nature, or embracing the power of visualization, every small step brings us closer to the life we envision. "Some of [our] beliefs, habits and behaviours are acquired by chance, and some we have designed for ourselves. But the beauty of the human mind is that no matter how these beliefs were shaped, they can be changed." —Nicole Vignola, author of Rewire: Break the Cycle, Alter Your Thoughts and Create Lasting Change Maybe it is the lack of confidence you have in your potential. Maybe it is the negative thoughts that stream through your mind at 2 am in the morning or in the afternoon when you are exhausted after a full first half of the work day has asked you to be on your game every single minute. Maybe it's your doubt that you will ever be able to acquire that habit that will help if only you could incorporate it into your everyday. Whatever default thinking habit you engage in that starts to chip away at the 'good vibes', at the hope, at the positive outlook you have on anything, this is the podcast episode for you to explore. In fact, I want to make it required listening/reading because when you take in the introduction to neuroscientist and author Nicole Vignola's book Rewire, you're going to be reminded of how powerful you are to remove the thought patterns you don't want and start living, creating and thinking in a way that elevates the quality of your entire life. As the new year approaches, we might be considering or evaluating what we want to improve, and in order to bring those changes into reality that we experience in our everydays we have to know how the machine, that is our mind, works as it pertains to acquiring and automating new habits, and also letting go of the unhelpful habits. This fundamental knowledge will foster the change you want to be part of your new year, and I cannot wait to share with you an overview of what you will learn when you pick up the book Rewire: Break the Cycle, Alter Your Thoughts an Create Lasting Change. We're living in an era where we're bombarded with information and expert opinions from every direction. As a result, many of us have become overly reliant on external expertise, constantly searching for the 'right' answer about how to eat, move, and live. What I've noticed in my two decades as a medical doctor is that this can actually prevent us from tuning into our own inner expertise and create lasting change. In this special BONUS podcast episode, I share some powerful insights from a live event that took place in London earlier this year about why knowledge alone isn't enough to create lasting change in our lives and how we can become our own experts. The truth is, most of us already know what we should be doing to improve our health - we know too much sugar isn't good for us, we know movement is important, and we know we should probably spend less time on our phones. But knowledge isn't enough. What's missing is self-awareness and insight into why we make the choices we do. In this episode, you'll discover: My simple 3M framework for daily routines, helping you create lasting change even if you only have 5 minutes to spare How to develop your own intuition. Why starting your day mindfully prevents 'micro-stress doses' from accumulating, leading to better mood and healthier choices throughout your day A powerful journaling practice that builds self-awareness, helping you understand your choices and create sustainable change How to maintain transformative routines in a busy household, setting an example that inspires those around you One of the key messages I want you to take away from this episode is that you can change who you are at any time - you're not destined to be the person you were yesterday. Through practices like journaling, you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself, as well as the insight needed to make lasting changes. And for those who feel they don't have time for elaborate routines - and I know many of us feel this way - I explain why even small actions, done consistently, can be transformative. You don't need perfect conditions to start, and in fact, maintaining these practices even in a busy household can set a powerful example for those around you. I truly hope you find this episode helpful and that it gives you practical tools you can implement immediately. If you know someone who could benefit from listening, please share it with them, too. In today's episode, join hosts Laurie and George as they uncover the ultimate move that creates lasting change in couples. The changemaker for a negative cycle is when the withdrawing partner is able to stay in their fear and uncover their unmet need. In the negative cycle the old move to sense the discomfort and move away immediately begins to be replaced with a new ability to tolerate and remain present. Staying in the fear, with your partner close at hand allows you to ask, "What do I need here? Can you help me with it?" This new experience sends a message through the body and brain that this is now safe and we are rewarded with closeness and comfort where there was once isolation. We are not meant to be alone! George reminds withdrawers that you must risk if you want the reward. Our hosts role play, guides listeners in this meaningful conversation and reminds them, this is possible in your relationship! How many times have you read books, taken classes, and taken steps to change yourself or your relationship, but couldn't quite get that change to last? Using the transtheoretical model of change, here is what you need to know in order to make the changes you desire in yourself and your relationship. Roadmap for Successful & Lasting Change: Identify where you are at on the transformation journey: Pre-Contemplation: D-day just happened and you are struggling to come to terms with what happened. (A good time to see a qualified therapist!) Contemplation: You've accepted the reality of your situation and you are starting to explore your options and learn what might be available to you. (A good time to read, listen to podcasts, and use on-line or group coaching programs.) Preparation: This is where you learn (and practice!) the tools, skills, and habits necessary for you to be successful and manage setbacks. (A good time for one-on-one coaching so you can be sure you are cultivating the skills necessary to soar!) Action: The time to take action begins only after you've learned how to support the changes you desire. (Accountability and support are critical here!) 90 Days to create a habit: Go slow! Be patient, have grace, and expect failure along the way. Change one or two things at a time: Clearly identify what you want to change so you can know if you are succeeding or not. Don't overwhelm yourself with too much. Work on both “sides”: Change takes place on both “sides” of the coin. The logical side and the emotional side, the conscious side and the unconscious side, etc. Work to change both your actions and your thoughts. Use journaling, meditation, & somatic movement to lock in change: These modalities are the backbone of tools necessary for successful change and to finally BECOME all that you want to be! Maintenance: In this phase, you refine what you want and practice living your best life! Termination: You and your relationship have become who you wanted them to be! Are you ready to finally create the change you desire? Careers are one of the ways that we find meaning and purpose in our lives. Not the only way, of course. But what if you wake up one day and realize that your true purpose might be better fulfilled by doing something other than what you originally trained for. Now what?!Design thinking offers tools and processes that can help us both imagine and then execute big shifts in our lives. Lisa Waltuch and her business partner, Jen Sullivan, are co-founders of Encore Retreats, where they host transformational getaways and events. Lisa also has her own practice as a Life Coach through Thrive Coaching, where she uses design thinking to help her clients imagine and then inhabit really big changes. I thought she'd be the perfect person to talk about this with.Takeaways-Your true purpose might be better fulfilled by doing something other than what you originally trained for. Instead of asking “What did I train to do?” ask “What impact do I want to have?”- You are never too old (or too successful) to choose a new path. You can make bold changes at any life stage.- Don't let yourself be shackled by what has come before. Ask yourself, “How do I want my life to unfold or evolve from here?- Some of your values may have shifted throughout your life.
