Most leaders want change to be quick and clean. A few tweaks. A new policy. A better week. But meaningful change – the kind that transforms culture, steadies the ship, and creates a practice you actually love leading – follows a very different rhythm. In this episode, Oli and I dig into the truth about change. Why overwhelm is a diagnostic, not a character flaw. Why burnout often signals a system problem rather than a personal one. And why rebuilding culture is more like farming than fighting. We explore the emotional, financial and cultural yields your practice should produce, how to diagnose what's really driving your stress, and why the first brave step is often removing the wrong person, not adding a new one.You will learn practical ways to create immediate relief, the long term strategy for sustainable transformation, and why community support acts as a stabilising wall while you do the real work of leadership.Change is not instant. But there is a path. And when you follow it with intention, the remarkable vet practice you build will give back far more than it takes.Episode Outline:[01:05] – Why change hurts more than it should[03:45] – Burnout isn't personal, it's systemic[06:37] – Culture is the soil everything grows in[08:14] – Who should stay on your team – and who shouldn't[10:28] – Rebuilding from the core, not the surface[12:03] – Why resistance shows up when standards rise[14:49] – Why meaningful change takes a season[16:20] – Finding relief before real change begins[19:28] – Skills can be replaced, attitudes can't[21:47] – When work becomes an emotional drain[23:04] – Someone has to own the culture[23:46] – Why community stabilises leaders[24:34] – The clearest path forwardResources & Links MentionedNeed clarity on what needs to change? Episode 229 - Legacy - How Dads Create Lasting Change for Families - Presence, Example and WordsIn this episode of Dad Space, we dive into what legacy truly means for fathers and how dads can create lasting, positive change that resonates through generations. Legacy is more than just financial inheritance or big achievements—it's the daily, consistent acts that shape who your children become and the values they carry forward. We kick off by challenging common cultural ideas of legacy—like career success or wealth—and instead focus on what kids actually remember: the time dads spent with them, how dads treated their family and others, and the patterns of behavior modeled every day. Real legacy is found not in highlight moments but in the quiet, meaningful routines and examples dads set.Next, we explore three core “legacy levers” that dads can use to positively influence their families:Presence: Showing up physically and emotionally through simple connection moments like bedtime talks, car rides, or tech-free dinners.Example: Kids learn more from what dads do than what they say—modeling kindness, accountability, apology, and respect.Words: The phrases we speak leave lasting impressions—expressing love, pride, and encouragement builds strong emotional foundations. We also discuss the courage it takes to break negative family cycles. Many dads may not have had positive role models but can choose to start new traditions—whether saying “I love you” more often or creating small family rituals. Being the one to change the family story is one of the most powerful legacies a dad can leave. The episode highlights the importance of micro-legacies—small traditions, habits, and rituals that build connection and lasting memories, like Saturday morning pancakes or birthday letters. These little things often mean more than big speeches or grand gestures. Finally, listeners are given a simple legacy check-in with thought-provoking questions to reflect on who they are as dads today and what changes they can make for a stronger, more loving family tomorrow.Dad Space ends with a heartfelt challenge for dads to create legacy in small, meaningful ways every day—reminding us all that legacy is not about perfection but showing up consistently with love.Episode Takeaway:Legacy is built in the ordinary moments and consistent patterns of love, presence, and example. By making small intentional choices, dads can leave a powerful, lasting impact on their families for generations.___https://dadspace.camusic provided by Blue Dot SessionsSong: The Big Ten https://app.sessions.blue/browse/track/258270

Out of that conviction, Bridge Communities was born—a faith-driven initiative that helps churches use their land and resources to create small cottage neighborhoods for families experiencing homelessness. Each community is built on more than walls and roofs—it's built on relationships. Through mentorship, partnership, and shared purpose, families find stability, dignity, and hope.Jack and Kevin discuss how this model is redefining the church's role in today's world, showing that true leadership happens when believers put compassion into motion. From transforming church properties into places of hope to empowering volunteers to walk alongside families, Bridge Communities is proving that leadership is about building bridges—between people, between opportunity and need, between faith and everyday life.

The first time neuroscientist Nicole Vignola held a brain in her hands, she thought that within it lay an entire person's life. This moment sparked a cascade of questions: What makes us who we are? How much do our beliefs shape our lives? Can we rewire our brains to change our habits and improve our well-being? As the author of the book Neurohabits: Break the Loop, Transform Your Thoughts, and Create Lasting Change (2025), she believes the key to it all lies in brain plasticity: “We all have habits and behaviors that hold us back from reaching our full potential. Thanks to neuroscience, we now understand how to change our minds to change our lives.” Nicole Vignola not only explains how brain plasticity works, but also shows how we can use our behavior, attention, and thoughts to make meaningful and lasting changes in our lives. “Changing habits, overcoming fear, breaking the loop of negative thoughts, getting out of the stress cycle… all of that is possible,” she says. And she adds: “If there are habits and behaviors standing in the way of the person you want to become, don't believe you're stuck. With attention and intention, you can become whoever you want to be. The habits you build today will determine who you are in the future.”

"Some of [our] beliefs, habits and behaviours are acquired by chance, and some we have designed for ourselves. But the beauty of the human mind is that no matter how these beliefs were shaped, they can be changed." —Nicole Vignola, author of Rewire: Break the Cycle, Alter Your Thoughts and Create Lasting Change Maybe it is the lack of confidence you have in your potential. Maybe it is the negative thoughts that stream through your mind at 2 am in the morning or in the afternoon when you are exhausted after a full first half of the work day has asked you to be on your game every single minute. Maybe it's your doubt that you will ever be able to acquire that habit that will help if only you could incorporate it into your everyday. Whatever default thinking habit you engage in that starts to chip away at the 'good vibes', at the hope, at the positive outlook you have on anything, this is the podcast episode for you to explore. In fact, I want to make it required listening/reading because when you take in the introduction to neuroscientist and author Nicole Vignola's book Rewire, you're going to be reminded of how powerful you are to remove the thought patterns you don't want and start living, creating and thinking in a way that elevates the quality of your entire life. As the new year approaches, we might be considering or evaluating what we want to improve, and in order to bring those changes into reality that we experience in our everydays we have to know how the machine, that is our mind, works as it pertains to acquiring and automating new habits, and also letting go of the unhelpful habits. This fundamental knowledge will foster the change you want to be part of your new year, and I cannot wait to share with you an overview of what you will learn when you pick up the book Rewire: Break the Cycle, Alter Your Thoughts an Create Lasting Change.   Explore the Show Notes for the episode on The SImply Luxurious Life blog — https://thesimplyluxuriouslife.com/podcast393

We're living in an era where we're bombarded with information and expert opinions from every direction. As a result, many of us have become overly reliant on external expertise, constantly searching for the 'right' answer about how to eat, move, and live. What I've noticed in my two decades as a medical doctor is that this can actually prevent us from tuning into our own inner expertise and create lasting change.   In this special BONUS podcast episode, I share some powerful insights from a live event that took place in London earlier this year about why knowledge alone isn't enough to create lasting change in our lives and how we can become our own experts.   The truth is, most of us already know what we should be doing to improve our health - we know too much sugar isn't good for us, we know movement is important, and we know we should probably spend less time on our phones. But knowledge isn't enough. What's missing is self-awareness and insight into why we make the choices we do.   In this episode, you'll discover: My simple 3M framework for daily routines, helping you create lasting change even if you only have 5 minutes to spare How to develop your own intuition. Why starting your day mindfully prevents 'micro-stress doses' from accumulating, leading to better mood and healthier choices throughout your day A powerful journaling practice that builds self-awareness, helping you understand your choices and create sustainable change How to maintain transformative routines in a busy household, setting an example that inspires those around you One of the key messages I want you to take away from this episode is that you can change who you are at any time - you're not destined to be the person you were yesterday. Through practices like journaling, you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself, as well as the insight needed to make lasting changes.   And for those who feel they don't have time for elaborate routines - and I know many of us feel this way - I explain why even small actions, done consistently, can be transformative. You don't need perfect conditions to start, and in fact, maintaining these practices even in a busy household can set a powerful example for those around you.   I truly hope you find this episode helpful and that it gives you practical tools you can implement immediately.
