The Braw and The Brave is a podcast about people and their passions. Episode 193 is in conversation with Kris Kesiak, a portrait and commercial photographer and videographer who predominantly works within the music industry and the arts. Born in Poland, his passion for photography started at a young age and continued into adulthood, as he moved to Glasgow to further his English studies. Pursuing a career in photography following an opportunity to work with musician Jill Jackson, he has gone on to capture many ‘well kent' faces, including artists such as Horse McDonald, Skerryvore and The Eves. His photography has featured on album covers, magazines and websites, with his impressive client base ever expanding. As a videographer he has directed short documentaries and music videos and his most recent exhibition ‘Women at COP26' was held at Trongate 103 in collaboration with Glasgow City Council and Street Level Photoworks. Kris Kesiak loves working with people, capturing their uniqueness and authenticity through his unmistakeable photography. A music lover, Kris is inspired by the artists and music videos he discovered in his youth that sparked his imagination and made him ever more determined to go after dreams. An insightful chat about self discovery, passion and creativity! Enjoy! With its long coastline and about 790 islands, Scotland has been home to a large number of lighthouses. The Northern Lighthouse Board, founded in 1786, currently operates and maintains 206 lighthouses across Scotland and the Isle of Man. Automation of lighthouses began in Scotland as early as 1894, when the Oxcars Light in the River Forth had its two lightkeepers withdrawn. Fair Isle South was the last of Scotland’s manned lighthouses to be automated, on March 31 1998. Ian Duff at St. Abb's Head Lighthouse in Scotland in July 2017. Photo by Jeremy D'Entremont. Ian Duff and Bill Bremner (also a lighthouse keeper) during Ian's active career (ALK) Ian Duff worked as a keeper at 13 Scottish lighthouses between 1976 and 1992. He spent about five years at Skerryvore, a remote station off the west coast of Scotland. Skerryvore is the tallest lighthouse in Scotland at about 156 feet. It was designed by Alan Stevenson and was completed in 1844. Ian also spent about five years at Duncansby Head Light Station at the most northeasterly point of the British mainland. Ian has remained involved with lighthouses since his retirement as a keeper. Today he is the president of the Association of Light Keepers, or the ALK, an organization that provides a forum for everyone interested in lighthouses, lightships, and maritime aids to navigation. SHOW NOTES EPISODE 129: KNEEL BEFORE TRUMPZOD This week Host Dave Bledsoe screams “Put me in coach” only to be kicked out another stranger's lamaze class. On the show this week we tackle the NFL Protests only to get called for roughing the Producer. (Could be worse, it could be illegal use of hands.) Along the way we ponder alternate names for the show, and decide the one we have is obtuse enough. Additionally we discuss everything we know about football, (Very little) and everything we know about capitalism. (Still very little.) We ask the burning questions “Does Jet Magazine still exist? What about Ebony?” Finally we drill down into the Flag Code and discover several violations that ought to be felonies! (Fat dudes in American Flag thongs should be a crime against humanity.) This week's Wayback is the Greatest That Ever Was, the subject, not the Wayback, it's pretty average. Our Sponsor this week is Frank's Flag Shack, show your respect for the flag for which heroes died by draping it around your disgusting body! We open the show with Bill Hicks explaining how we can get the world to rally around the flag and close with Skerryvore explaining the way it is.
