Words can't describe the level heartbreak we had last week at Gateway, but we have to recap what went down anyway. After moving on from Gateway, we look ahead to the second Road Course of the season. We're switching the strategy up this week in the outright market. A little "Shotgun Unit" is coming this week with a few different drivers to watch. From there we look at the Position Placement market and look at some of the longer odds for some big name drivers. We wrap things up with a couple of Head to Head matchups that really stand out, and a Phil's Fired Up about some of the recent NASCAR news
Today we will try three new wines from Ra Ra Wine Co. Healdsburg California is trulu a wine hub now, offering great wines from many different wine regions surounding this great little town. I met this amazing lady at Valette Healdsburg, and now will enjoy this great story and adventure with her great wines. We will look at the webiste, and tasting notes, but first,a little back ground. Kara Marie Wines began in 2018 with a passion for great wine made in a lively, fruit forward style. 100 cases of rosé later, and so began an unexpectedly epic journey! Trained and mentored (not to mention raised!) by a winemaker whose philosophy is to let the fruit do the talking, I've done exactly that…with my own spin of course! Fast forward to 2023, and I am proud to offer a full line up of wines I am passionate about making and drinking! Kara Marie Wines has now evolved into two brands, Ra Ra Wine Co. and Little Ra Ra Ferments. Both platforms allow me to craft limited production wines of excellent quality and top-notch drinkability. Kara Groom Six harvests across three continents and it was time to come home to Sonoma County. Now following my passion for food & wine (aka eating and drinking), I'm crafting beautiful wines and delicious dishes to accompany them." We have two great audio features and three wines. 1. 2023 DRY RIESLING 2.2023 MELON DE BOURGOGNE 3. 2023 ROSÉ OF GRENACHE Please go to Karamariewines.com to learn more! “There's so many craftspeople and artisans up here. Everyone up here has a shared appreciation for seasonality and the quality of ingredients and that sort of lifestyle. And then visitors are coming to be a part of that. So we were really drawn to what a unique location that was, to not separate the agricultural side from the experiential side.” We're in great company with Kyle & Katina Connaughton, the husband and wife duo behind SingleThread Farms, a bespoke hospitality experience earning 3 Michelin Stars and a Green Michelin Star for their farm, restaurant and inn in the center of Sonoma Wine Country. Here they work and live in harmony, Katina as the Head Farmer and Kyle as the Head Chef, to provide locally curated and crafted produce and products, one of the world's best fine dining destinations and wine programs, paired with intimate accommodations to accompany it all. In this episode, Kyle & Katina celebrate the story of their life - their young love, dedication to family, worldly travels, love of nature, passion for creativity, and collaboration with community - painting an optimistic outlook for a world inspired by a stronger sense of seasonality and locality. Top Takeaways [2:00] How a story of young love transpired into a life of worldly travels, the pursuit of culinary and agricultural passions, the raising of a family and the eventual return home. [5:40] Kyle and Katina both found their “Ikigai,” Japanese for “your reason for being” while living in a small fishing village in Hokkaido, which has sparked great influence in their artisan collaborations, menu inspiration, seasonal purveyors and natural sense of place. [13:10] Why the Connaughton's did not want to follow the trend and open a farm to table restaurant in a big city, instead opting to bring people directly to the source that is Sonoma Wine Country. [17:30] SingleThread both tells the story of the seamless past, present and future experiences that shape the farm, restaurant and inn and of all of the strong fibers of community members who weave together this narrative. [21:20] How Katina's farm brings biodiversity to wine country - supplying vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, honey, and olive oil to Kyle's kitchen - while inviting guests to experience this bounty through her Farm Store's fresh produce, florals and pantry line staples, CSA boxes, workshops and field walks. [25:00] A peek into the kitchen of a 3 Michelin Star restaurant, where Kyle and his team get creative with each dish showcasing the best of what is in season, being sure to support their entire community of farmers, to nourish their own team and their community in need. [39:30] A stay at the inn is meant to feel like you're a friend visiting the Connaughton's home. From a nourishing breakfast to endless snacks and an intimate dinner, Kyle and Katina take great care in the attention they give their guests. [56:30] As SingleThread Farms continues to grow and flourish, guests can expect to get their hands dirty with more experiences and to have a new place to stay with an expansion of the inn under renovation. On this week's episode we recap what was an overall brutal race at Gateway, but recap some of the bets that made it out alive. Then, we look ahead to one of the OG Road Courses, Sonoma Raceway. Up there in NoCal, it's proven to be challenging for even some of the most skilled road course drivers. After breaking down the data set that we want to use for this week, we get into the gambling talk. This week, we're doing things a bit differently. Instead of organizing the picks by segment, we're driver centric. Talking about the drivers and why we like them, and then finding the best bets to place on them is the name of the game this week. We finish things off with some team and manufacturer talk as well. To cap things off and the first time in a while, we've got a Phil's Fired Up. This week is about the PGA/Liv merger, and how as NASCAR fans we should be happy in the short run and hyper aware in the long run.

Recently Greg Joined me at Valette Healdsburg for many different courses and wines. We opened the great wines of Rodney Strong Vineyards and Davis Bynum. We have two great features...AGAIN,as the dishes just kept coming...,and quite frankly...Disappearing ! Harry Bryan joined the party as we closed the restaurant a couple nights in a row! First I will tell you about a couple of the wines and a few words of the great restaurant known as Valette Healdsburg. We have told you of the amazing Sav Blancs from rodney Strong and Davis bynum, and we now will discover the rose from Davis Bynum. Winemaking is light handed, with timely and deliberate choices made to craft a wine that genuinely reflects the vineyard and vintage. This rose has bright aromas and flavors, fresh acidity and a clean finish which is due to selecting exceptional blocks of fruit and picking early in the season when the acidity is naturally high and the sugars are low. The clone 113 block of Pinot Noir provided 92% of the finished blend, which was given 2 hours of skin contact to deepen the fruit and color before being pressed. The other 8% came from the clone 115 block, which also received 2 hours of skin contact. The resulting blend was chosen for its berry fruit, herbal and citrus notes and balanced finish. We also paired the beautiful Pinot Noir from Davis Bynum. Davis Bynum Pinot Noir showcases terroir: differences in flavor from distinct sites in the Russian River Valley. Our Russian River Valley Pinot Noir blends the characters of three distinct Russian River Valley neighborhoods and select blocks from the Petaluma Gap to create a wine with richness, balance and complexity. The darker fruit tones, richer mouthfeel and velvety tannins come from fruit grown in the warmer climate of the Santa Rosa Plains with its clay-rich soils underlain by volcanic ash. The fruit grown on the sandy soil of the warm Middle Reach neighborhood on Westside Road add to the spice, floral and red cherry fruit tones. The fruit from vineyards in the much cooler Green Valley neighborhood add fresh blueberry and vibrant acidity from the lauded Goldridge sandy loam soils. And a select piece from our hillside vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, within view of San Pablo Bay, adds racy acidity and briary fruit to the blend. Harry and I opened the Malbec and Reserve Cabernet from Rodney Strong. Our 2019 Reserve Malbec is rich with aromas of briary berry fruit, boysenberry and light oral undertones. On the palate, black cherry and currants give way to dried herbs and fine tannins for a lingering finish. Enjoy this wine with honey glazed pork chops, oven roasted winter vegetables or a petit filet with a spicy peppercorn sauce. Our Reserve wines are the result of a careful blend of individual lots from meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Sonoma County. Created in our small lot Artisan Cellar, Winemaker Justin Seidenfeld employs techniques such as cluster pre-sorting and extended maceration. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our cellar is state-of-the-art and represents the Klein family commitment to producing the finest wines possible. Harry Bryan has been a great friend, and a source of great food and wine. Having an incredible passion for memorable food and beverage experiences, Harry Bryan is the perfect addition to work alongside executive chef, Nathan Davis and owners Aaron Garzini and Dustin Valette. Harry re-joins the Valette team as General Manager with over 20 years of professional experience in the hospitality industry. Harry comes to the property from award winning Timber Cove Resort on the Sonoma Coast where he was the Food & Beverage Director. His management experience also includes positions as Bar Manager with Heartland Brewery in New York City, Bar Manager and Floor Captain of the Versace House in Miami Beach, and General Manager of Mateo's Cocina Latina in Healdsburg. Another beautiful evening in Healdsburg,in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country!Tonight we will visit Valette Healdsburg and the Dry Creek Kitchen with John and Diane Bucher.First let's check out their website and learn about tonight's feature wines. Two great Pinot Noirs. The Bucher Vineyard 2018 Pinot Noir. Fragrant aromatics fill the glass with dark tones of red fruit, violets and subtle earth notes. The palate, bathed with vibrant acidity, reveals bright black raspberry, blackberry, plum, and hints of vanilla woven with traces of fine-grained oak. This blend of five Pinot clones from five of our vineyard blocks delivers layers of complexity, supple tannins, and a long, lingering finish—a classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. We first will open The Pommard clone Pinot Noir! The Pommard clone fruit provides tantalizing aromatics of bright raspberry and sweet cherry that layers with subtle spices and creamy mocha. A smooth entry flows into a mid-palate of supple tannins and rich oak notes wrapped around lovely dark lingering flavors—young, fresh-picked cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, and wild berries mingled with a touch of floral. A dash of cedar and anise appears and lingers with hints of minerality in the long finish. A plush wine with an elegance that turns heads and quickly empties glasses. We will start at Valette Healdsburg and then walk over to the Dry creek Kitchen. Valette was born from two brothers' lifelong dream of creating a unique dining experience in our hometown of Healdsburg. Our goal is to provide a canvas for local farmers, winemakers and artisans to showcase their crafts. Chef Dustin Valette began his restaurant career at the age of thirteen washing dishes at Catelli's in his hometown of Geyserville, California. Two years later he took an apprenticeship at Chateau Souverain, a Francis Ford Coppola Estate, where he worked under Executive Chef Martin Courtman, – beginning the twenty-plus year culinary journey toward his dream of opening a restaurant dedicated to showcasing the rich bounty and beautiful ingredients of his Sonoma County roots. Aaron Garzini began his restaurant career at just 14 years of age in the kitchen of Catelli's, a beloved restaurant in his hometown of Geyserville, California. A few years later, Aaron's brother, Dustin Valette, would follow, starting his culinary career in the kitchen of the same restaurant. Those early years began a trajectory leading the two brothers back to their roots with extensive experience and honed talents. While the experience sparked Dustin's passion to become a chef, Aaron set his sights on the front of the house. This restauirant is a must when visiting Healdsburg, and in fact is one of the great restaurants in the world. We will also feature the amazing Dry Creek Kitchen. Charlie Palmer's Dry Creek Kitchen offers a three-course seasonal prix fixe menu where Chef Wyatt Keith presents a menu driven by the very best of Sonoma County. An inviting dining room is the perfect setting for vibrant Progressive American cooking and a wine list offering 500 selections. Patio Seating is available. Reservations are recommended. In this episode of the Classical Post Podcast, concert violinist Alexi Kenney shares his experience of releasing a visual album (Paul Wianko's X Suite for Solo Violin) earlier this year that was filmed in wine country at a fabulous estate in Sonoma, California. The Donum Estate was founded 20 years ago on 190 idyllic acres. Today, 91one those acres are planted with grapes such as pinot noir and chardonnay. But more interestingly, the grounds are dotted with an incredible sculpture collection of modern art. The resulting series of videos from this album — that you can watch on YouTube — features Alexi playing amidst this dynamic landscape of Vineyard-bliss and contemporary sculptures. He commissioned the composer Paul Wiancko to write this work called X Suite for Solo Violin. The visual album pairs the seven movements with seven sculptures at this vineyard. The work originally premiered at London's prestigious Wigmore Hall in 2019. But now this is the recording premiere in multiple formats — the video on YouTube and audio recordings you can find on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. Alexi is one of those people that sees art as "total art", encompassing not just what you hear, but what you see and experience in the physical world. I know I personally value this and want the classical music world to move in this direction. But for now, I want to highlight his viewpoint on just that — creating art music that's not in a vacuum, but inextricably tied to the visual experience. How is this valuable to you? Some might find art music esoteric, but I'm here to showcase Alexi's work as something that's approachable just as you would approach a wine pairing at a fine restaurant. To take the analogy further, imagine a summer's night on Nantucket. You've just had dinner with the sun setting over the water. You've had a fine bottle of champagne. And now you're getting ready to leave and have a cigar by the fire, now that the cool breeze is sweeping off the coast. All of these elements are uniquely beautiful — the food, the view, the champagne, the fire — but if you eliminate one of these, it's still beautiful, but not as complete. That's the best way I can describe this discussion of art we have in this podcast episode. The total package becomes transcendent, picking us up from the mundane and placing us in a state of elevated consciousness. I hope you enjoy my chat with Alexi Kenney who The New York Times calls “spellbinding". -- Classical Post explores the intersection of classical music, style, and wellness, diving into meaningful conversations with leading artists from an array of different backgrounds. Based in New York City, Classical Post is a touchpoint for tastemakers. Visit our website for exclusive articles or subscribe to our monthly newsletter to be notified of new content.

Recently Ienjoyed a great get together with Chef roger at La Gare French restaurant.Gina met me at the restaurant and brought a couple great wines from J.Pedroncelli.This winery has been featured at La Gare for many years, and brings together two great reasons to always enjoy Sonoma Country wine country.First we will look at the tasting notes and history of J.Pedroncelli, and then La Gare. Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyard and a small winery in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley, two elements remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms vineyards, and the family's dedication to making fine wines. From selling grapes to home winemakers during prohibition in order to keep the vineyards going, to growing a small base of business during the 1930s and 1940s, to the second generation joining their father: son John becoming winemaker in 1948 followed by Jim in 1955 as sales director, to 1963 when the winery was officially purchased by John and Jim from their father, to growing the line of wines in the 1960s with vineyard expansion and diversification, to the boom time of the 1970s and 1980s along with many changes and additions to our sales base including national sales and export, the third generation coming on board and vineyard replanting in the 1990s to the 21st century refining our focus to restaurants and casual dining/meet-up wine bars and independent wine shops across the nation. to the transfer of ownership of the company to the third generation (now a 70% woman owned company with a woman winemaker!) to the second decade in the new millenium where the fourth generation is coming up the ranks... Nine decades strong, we are still family owned and operated. It all adds up to tradition, heritage and a family of wines you can enjoy with confidence. Our first wine will be the SB from J.Pedroncelli. Tasting Notes Pale yellow, brightly aromatic and very varietally correct-true to the Sauvignon Blanc grape. The clean and fresh flavors are layered with pear, Meyer lemon and tropical fruits. Our Sauvignon Blanc is crisp with notes of citrus, green apple, grass and a touch of minerality. The finish is quite refreshing. Please enjoy upon release or within a year or two as no aging is required. We have two wines today. "Dry Creek Valley's standing as the source of Sauvignon Blanc incomparable for its sense of place is reinforced with this layered and stable interpretation. The fruit is all grapefruit and peach from orchards where nettles also have a benign yet intriguing presence." we will now open the RThree Vineyard Cabernet from J.Pedroncelli! Dark red with purple hints around the edges. Aromas of dark ripe berries, dried herbs and earthy tones introduce this medium bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. Soft tannins are framed by cherry, plum and blackberry fruit followed by hints of oregano and bay leaf. Great structure and good acidity combine with a spicy finish. Enjoy upon release or cellar up to eight more years. Awesome! Now let's join Chef Roger and Gina at the La Gare French restaurant, afterlearn a little about this great restaurant. La Gare has been a local favorite for almost 40 years and two generations. Serving old world classic French cuisine by using fresh local ingredients, they pride themselves on still including soup and salad with every entree. Winegrape growers in the Napa Sonoma area are getting a better handle on the damage estimates to their fields and facilities. We have the staggering numbers. Another staggering number: 10 million acres burned due to wildfires this year. We’re not there yet, but we are approaching it…for the third time in five years. Farmers are looking for estate tax relief, we have that report. And, an update on the U.S. Mexico Canada trade agreement. All that, crop reports, a look at the extended weather…and we celebrate Bat Week. It’s all on this edition of the KSTE Farm Hour.
With the Kincade Fire 88% contained, wineries in Sonoma County are open for business. In this week's Grape Minds, Gina and Julie get the latest from, Jordan Vineyard and Winery about how the fire and smoke could impact what's shaping up to be a good vintage.

There is something special about Sonoma Wine Country and this year at the Southwest Florida Wine and Food Festival, we caught up with three winemakers who call this appellation home. First we talk with Jeff Mangahas of Williams Selyem about what makes wine from the various micro-climates within the region taste so different. Next, we meet Michael Thompson who bought the land to build his and his wife's dream in Sonoma's Russian River Valley with an address he feels makes all the difference for Thompson 31 Fifty Wines. Then, we talk with Molly Meeker of Meeker Wine where they know their way around the noblest of grapes including their famous Handprint Merlot. But, they still get creative with lesser known varieties like the delicious Verdelho we got to try.

Real-life married couple, Serafina Palandech and Jen Johnson are the founders of Hip Chick Farms. They make organic, transparently sourced, chef-inspired frozen chicken and poultry products that are loved by kids. Their products have no preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, or fillers in their products and the founders care about the animals. This is more than just a product. It’s a different way of doing business. This family company had humble beginnings a few years ago, while facing huge challenges just two years in, that would make most people quit the business. Now they’re doing great, expanding business in new ways and in new regions, and literally impacting an entire industry. Serafina and Jen invited me to their farm in Sebastopol, CA, located in the Sonoma Wine Country. It was a perfect setting, to truly see how animals are part of their everyday life. And just wait until you hear the variety of animals they have at their home. In our conversation, we discuss why this couple created a chicken company, the challenges and what got them through them, how their local community played a large role in learning the business, the evolving purpose of their company, discrimination and visibility, and loads more. Both Jen and Serafina are smart and driven, and they’re also full of charm — and this easily comes through in the interview. We laugh a lot, and it just flows. I had so much fun getting to know them, and think you’ll really enjoy this interview. Drowning In The Light: Memories Of The New Age with I.J. Rosen In Drowning In The Light: Memories Of The New Age, author I.J. Rosen takes the reader along in an exhilarating dive into the depths of the sea of consciousness in search for his soul and the structure of reality. Along the way the author shares his experiences with some of the most profound thinkers and renowned artists of our time. With a perfect blend of dark humor and deep spiritual wisdom, the pages fly as we are transported from the late 1970s downtown NY scene, to shamanic initiations in the mountains of Peru to his heartfelt yet satirical observations of New Age culture in 1980's California. I.J. Rosen was born in Brooklyn in the 1950s. Destined to live the life of the artist he moved to lower Manhattan in the late seventies and began showing in galleries and performing in underground clubs in Soho and Tribeca. After leaving the art world, the author pursued his quest for spiritual knowledge. From shamanic initiations in Peru with a traditional medicine man, to receiving a Masters degree in art therapy – Rosen delved deeper into his own psyche. Pushing the envelope he introduced his own form of guided imagery and self expression into psychiatric hospitals with populations ranging from children to the criminally insane. As a publisher and the founder of DreamSculpt Media, Inc. Rosen has produced dozens of digital media e-books for best selling authors, film producers and media channels as well as presented at venues ranging from the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco to TED X in Malibu. CA. I.J. Rosen lives in the Sonoma Wine Country with his wife.
