Preaching: Jen JohnsonThis Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday, the last week in Epiphany before we enter the season of Lent. This special feast commemorates the miraculous change in Jesus' appearance when he unveiled his glory on the Mount of Transfiguration. As the fulfillment of Epiphany's longing, the transfiguration reveals not only the glory of Jesus' way of life in the world, but it also casts vision for all that we can become, in the midst of what we are. This Sunday we get to hear from Pearl member Jen Johnson. At the culmination of the season of Epiphany, celebrating the light of Christ, we pause at this mysterious moment where the light gets very very bright, and yet we're not quite sure what we're looking at. In this mystery, we explore how we can hold space for these tender moments of “becoming” in our own lives and the lives of others.Pearl Church exists to express a sacred story and to extend a common table that animate life by love. A primary expression of our sacred story is the weekly sermon. If our sermons inspire you to ponder the sacred, to consider the mystery and love of God, and to live bountifully, would you consider supporting our work? Jen Johnson, a devoted registered nurse from Ontario, Canada, shares her remarkable stories working in a rural hospital to tackling the fast-paced demands of a stroke center using her intuition and wisdom. Her story is a testament to the often unrecognized but invaluable contributions of nurses everywhere. Jen talks about the critical role of intuition in nursing, emphasizing its importance for both personal sanity and career survival. Her book, "Nursing Intuition: How to Trust Your Gut, Save Your Sanity, and Survive Your Career," serves as an essential guide for nurses and anyone interested in understanding the inner workings of healthcare from the perspective of those who keep it running. The episode brings to light the emotional and mental challenges faced by frontline workers, especially during the early days of the pandemic. Jen recounts the pressures of maintaining a balance between her work and personal life under extreme circumstances. We examine how intuition, bolstered by experience, becomes a lifeline in high-stakes environments. The discussion uncovers the science behind intuition and the impact of sleep deprivation on decision-making, bringing to the forefront the need for healthcare professionals to trust and act on their gut feelings, even when self-doubt lingers. This episode is a tribute to the resilience and essential role of nurses, encouraging a deeper appreciation and support for these frontline heroes.BioJenn Johnson learned more about intuition after she started listening to what her body was telling her. After years of nursing in the ER she started having a feeling about what was going on with her patients before tests would clearly show the diagnosis. In this episode, Jenn shares some of the science behind intuition and how she started relying on her own experiences when caring for patients. Jenn is waiting for her book, Nursing Intuition, to be published this fall. In the book, she will talk more about the science behind using intuition and how she incorporates it into her care of patients. On this episode of The Construction Record Podcast™, digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with AEC Cares president and ConstructConnect chief product officer Jen Johnson about ProjectDC, an initiative in the District of Columbia to renovate the Residential Empowerment Adolescent Community Home (REACH) located in D.C.'s Capitol Hill neighborhood. Once a year construction industry professionals come together for AEC Cares Day of Service, with last year's project in San Francisco was the Lark-Inn, a facility run by Larkin Street Youth Services, in a “blitz build” to remodel the living and social spaces for 18 to 24-year-old young adults transitioning from homelessness. This year's build in D.C. involved a space with very little room for staging and challenges in terms of navigating many volunteers around the many areas they need to work on and renovate throughout the course of the day. Jen detailed all the planning that goes into the day's work and the year of preparation before hand that makes it possible. She also spoke about this year's AIA Conference on Architecture and Design and ConstructConnect's plans during the event including a session led by senior economist Michael Guckes on the state of the economy. In this conversation Charlie Merrill (Physical Therapist) and I talk about going from avoidance to movement and why it's so important for overcoming conditioned responses. That being said, it's scary to reintroduce movement when it's so painful, so we address this fear & with some tips to overcome it. I also ask him if the following diagnosis or labels are the cause of pain or not? Muscle Weakness, Ehlor Danlos, Inflammation, Plantar Fasciitis, High Arches, Does aging cause pain? and more. Preaching: Mike Roth, Irvin Brown, Jen Johnson, Tym AndrewsThe Festival of All Saints celebrates the faithful women and men, known and unknown, past and present, whose lives have been marked by the love and grace of God. It is an opportunity for us, as a church, to thank God for them and to remember the roles they have played in bringing God's kingdom into our lives and into this world. This year, we heard reflections from Pearl members Irvin Brown, Jen Johnson and Tym Andrews.Pearl Church exists to express a sacred story and to extend a common table that animate life by love. A primary expression of our sacred story is the weekly sermon. If our sermons inspire you to ponder the sacred, to consider the mystery and love of God, and to live bountifully, would you consider supporting our work? You can donate easily and securely at our website: pearlchurch.org. Thank you for partnering with us in expressing this sacred story.

Fixed or flexible – do you prefer to offer services with a set process or create a bespoke proposal for each project, and why? Once you've decided on your services, how do you go about pricing them? How do you build in packages, upsells or added extras to help clients get more bang for their buck? Do you ever team up with other freelancers to offer a specific service or package, and what tips do you have for anyone considering this?Huge thanks to Michelle Garrett and everyone in the #FreelanceChat fam! Real-life married couple, Serafina Palandech and Jen Johnson are the founders of Hip Chick Farms. They make organic, transparently sourced, chef-inspired frozen chicken and poultry products that are loved by kids. Their products have no preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, or fillers in their products and the founders care about the animals. This is more than just a product. It’s a different way of doing business. This family company had humble beginnings a few years ago, while facing huge challenges just two years in, that would make most people quit the business. Now they’re doing great, expanding business in new ways and in new regions, and literally impacting an entire industry. Serafina and Jen invited me to their farm in Sebastopol, CA, located in the Sonoma Wine Country. It was a perfect setting, to truly see how animals are part of their everyday life. And just wait until you hear the variety of animals they have at their home. In our conversation, we discuss why this couple created a chicken company, the challenges and what got them through them, how their local community played a large role in learning the business, the evolving purpose of their company, discrimination and visibility, and loads more. Both Jen and Serafina are smart and driven, and they’re also full of charm — and this easily comes through in the interview. We laugh a lot, and it just flows. I had so much fun getting to know them, and think you’ll really enjoy this interview.
