Sean "Diddy" Combs, once hailed as a music mogul and cultural icon, is now facing a devastating reckoning as former employees and industry insiders come forward with allegations of threats, sexual misconduct, and corporate funds being used to facilitate a toxic work environment. Daniel Evans, a former music executive at Bad Boy Records, recalls a chilling moment in 1997 when Combs allegedly threatened a colleague's life in his New York office. "I have so much money now that I could hire someone to kill you, and nobody would know," Evans remembers him saying. At the time, Combs had just received a $6 million payout for the label's success, solidifying his status as one of the most powerful figures in the industry. Bad Boy Records, home to The Notorious B.I.G. and other top artists, quickly became known for its extravagant parties, high-profile events, and a culture that former employees now say enabled troubling behavior. Evans and others allege that Combs often had sex with women inside the label's Daddy's House recording studio and that company money was used to fly in women from around the country at the request of Combs, artists, and executives. “There was a course of conduct that became more egregious over time,” said attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents multiple alleged victims. One lawsuit accuses Combs of raping a woman at a 1995 promotional event for The Notorious B.I.G. She alleges that after the assault, Combs warned her, “You will disappear.” Combs has denied all allegations, with his legal team calling the lawsuits "fabricated accusations" and claiming the hip-hop mogul "never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone." However, multiple former employees paint a picture of an empire fueled by unchecked power. Felicia Newsome, who managed the Daddy's House studio from 1994 to 2000, recalls being called in the middle of the night after an employee refused to fetch condoms for Combs. “I told him, ‘Don't ever ask anyone here to get condoms,'” she said. Despite warnings from some senior staff, Bad Boy Records was largely run by young executives and interns, some of whom were underage. Evans remembers a 14-year-old intern propositioning him. "She said, ‘If you ever want to get loose, you and I should kick it… but not tonight, I have a curfew.'” Shocked, Evans sent her home, but weeks later, she was back working in the mailroom. Reports of sexual exploitation escalated over the years. Crystal McKinney, a model, alleges that Combs drugged and assaulted her at the studio in 2003. That same year, another woman claims she was gang-raped by Combs and two associates when she was 17. Combs's reputation further deteriorated after surveillance footage surfaced showing him physically assaulting ex-partner Casandra Ventura in 2016. Ventura, who filed the first of many lawsuits against him, alleged years of abuse, violence, and sex trafficking before settling out of court. Many in the industry who once admired Combs are now questioning whether they ever truly knew the man behind the empire. "One could think that he's just a disgusting human being, but that's not my memory of Puff," said longtime friend Jimmy Maynes. "Or maybe money just gives people the freedom to be exactly who they really are, and he was that guy all along." As Combs awaits trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, more details are expected to emerge, leaving his once-glorified legacy in ruins. #Diddy #BadBoyRecords #MusicIndustry #SexTrafficking #HipHop #Lawsuit #CelebrityScandal Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? For this Musicals Magazine Podcast, Edward Seckerson meets Julian Ovenden, universally acknowledged as possessing one of the most beautiful voices in Musical Theatre. Gearing up a rare solo concert with Broadway composer Scott Frankel (Grey Gardens, War Paint), Ovenden reflects on a career that has taken him from the Donmar's Merrily We Roll Along to TV's Bridgerton. His appearances with the John Wilson Orchestra highlighted his way with Golden Age Broadway scores, and Daniel Evans's recent Chichester/Sadler's Wells revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific afforded him his shining moment with arguably the two greatest ballads in the repertoire. The musical excerpts are taken from Carousel: World Premiere Complete Recording, by John Wilson and his Sinfonia of London, released on Chandos Records on 13 September 2024; and My Favorite Things: The Rodgers & Hammerstein 80th Anniversary Concert by The Rodgers & Hammerstein Concert Orchestra, conducted by Simon Lee, released on Concord Theatricals on 31 May 2024. The opening and closing musical excerpts featured in this podcast are from the Overture to Gypsy (film version), taken from Jule Styne's ‘Overtures Vol 2', courtesy of JAY Records.
I'm honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with OLIPOP soda? Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, use promo code JAYREELZ for 15% off of your purchase. Just days away from September as we say bye bye to a slow stretch in the sports world with the final podcast of the month coming at ya. On deck: (2:54) Some housekeeping to begin. The latest vlog on the YouTube channel is forthcoming this Saturday, so keep your eyes peeled for that. And, of course, OLIPOP soda. Please see promo above. (5:18) We can say goodbye to the Sports Dead Zone, Pt. 2 as we get set for what will be an intriguing college football season. Between teams moving from old conferences to new, schedules that have been enhanced and a twelve team playoff format that's ushered in for the first time in the sport's history. I'll unpack a couple of big picture storylines on how the chase for the postseason is fueling a regular season that we'll experience for the first time. I'll predict who'll win it all and do any of the teams (5-12 to qualify for the playoffs) have a shot to go all the way? (32:20) It was another gut punch by the Mets to their core fans (yours truly included) after losing another eighth inning lead on this road trip, putting them in a spot where they may not make the postseason at all. Is that going to be the case? The Kansas City Royals had a golden opportunity to take over first place in the AL Central, but squandered a late lead as the Guardians salvaged a series and took back first place in the process. Are the Royals for real? I'll update the latest with the division and wild card races, with both the Cubs and Tigers trying to get into the playoff discussion. (49:58) The NFL is now one week away. Next Thursday the new season begins. No previews or over/unders just yet, but am I looking forward to the upcoming year? You may be surprised by the answer, but I'll surely explain. Plus, CeeDee Lamb gets his money in Dallas. No notable cuts on the league's cut day Tuesday. Former Rams LB Ernest Jones finds a new home and Russell Wilson will start at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. (57:12) The US Open is in full swing. Not much to report as far as major upsets, but history was made as the longest match in Open history took place between Daniel Evans vs. Karen Khachanov. With Evans winning, will he embark on a magic carpet ride into the weekend? After an 18 year break from the RSC, Ian Hughes has returned to the role of Sir Hugh Evans in Blanche McIntyre's critically acclaimed production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. The production forms part of Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey's opening season as joint Artistic Directors of the RSC, where there seems to be a renewed buzz about the company and the work that is being produced in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Ian's last outing at the RSC was as Sir Hugh Evans in Merry Wives: The Musical, but he has since continued to tread the boards and made various appearances on screen in an array household titles. The Merry Wives of Windsor gives audiences an opportunity to see Ian back somewhere he love though and it was fantastic getting to hear him talk about his history with this beloved institution. In this exclusive interview, Ian Hughes looks back on his career, starting out his career without training at an elusive drama school and then becoming the first ever winner of the Ian Charleson Award. His first outing to the RSC came about in the early 1990s where he has since taken on roles in King Lear, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and more working alongside RSC greats such as Gregory Doran and Adrian Noble. It's an extraordinary career that has also taken him to commercial musicals like The Lion King, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Les Miserables. Never one to be pigeonholed, Ian has also had a career on screen taking part in shows such as Masters of the Sky, Doctor Who and Gavin and Stacy. In our interview, he shares how he's managed to carve out such a varied career working with so many luminaries in the industry but remains humble about the opportunities he's received too. The Merry Wives of Windsor is currently running at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon until 7th September with tickets available now!

The Petite Bourgeoisie - Laurie Taylor talks to Daniel Evans, Research Assistant at Cardiff University and author of a new study which explores the unstoppable rise of the lower middle class. Marx predicted that this insecure class, sandwiched between the working class and the bourgeoisie, would be absorbed into the proletariat as artisans died out during the industrial revolution. In fact, it has grown exponentially and is now a significant player within global politics, courted by the right and the left. Far from losing influence, the individualist values associated with it have been popularised by a society which some say fetishizes “aspiration” and entrepreneurship. They're joined by Nicola Bishop, cultural historian and Senior Teaching Fellow at Loughborough University, whose latest book analyses white collar workers in British popular culture, from the novels of Charles Dickens to comedy TV sitcoms. Why have lower middle class, suburban values become such a staple of our cultural consumption and what can this tell us about national British identity? Producer: Jayne Egerton

You can't do better than perfect! Chase's college football picks were perfect last week, and we're looking to keep that momentum rolling into Week 4 of the college football schedule. This week's solo pod starts with three great Thursday handicaps right out of the gate. Be very wary of Steelers +4.5, as nearly 80 percent of the tickets are backing Pittsburgh as a huge public dog. Despite the ticket count, the line has moved from Browns -3 to Browns -4.5. There are better Thursday night football opportunities! Airhorn: Georgia State +2.5 is about as smelly as they come. We're also backing Daniel Evans to win in straight sets (-105) at ATP San Diego on Thursday afternoon. NCAAF Odds: Five more official picks from Chase (plus Georgia State), including another team total and another Ole Miss under. And you can call him a homer if you like, but JMU is getting too many points in boone. JMU has shrunk from +10 to +7 over the last five days. NFL: Kansas City is square... and we don't care. Lay the -6.5. Plus three more sides, two leans, and a total. It's a STACKED episode with more than two dozen bets and leans for this weekend! Evans said: "This is really important to us, and we're placing a high priority on it." News: Researchers run a gas turbine on pure hydrogen in world first | New Atlas (01:51) Gas turbines are found in aircraft, trains, ships, generators, pumps, compressors and all sorts of other places. 90% currently run on natural gas, which produces carbon dioxide when you burn it In the race to zero emissions by 2050, several organizations, including General Electric, have been looking into transitioning gas turbines to burn green hydrogen as a clean fuel source. As of now, GE has more than 100 turbines running on at least 5 percent hydrogen fuel by volume, and they say they are on the path to 100 percent. Researchers at the University of Stavinger in Norway say they've beaten everyone to the punch, claiming that they've had a 100 percent hydrogen-burning gas turbine running since mid-May this year.Runs its own micro gas power plant, and its gas turbine produces heat, electricity and hot water for hydronic heating. Professor Mohsen Assadi, leader of the research team, states:“We have set a world record in hydrogen combustion in micro gas turbines. No one has been able to produce at this level before … The efficiency of running the gas turbine with hydrogen will be somewhat less. The big gain though, is to be able to utilize the infrastructure that already exists.” Eventually, these kinds of projects will lead to conversion kits that can keep old turbine equipment alive while moving it to zero-emissions fuel sources. But this process needs to become economically viable, which means the price of green hydrogen needs to come down substantially. First successful treatment of severe pulmonary hypertension with umbilical cord stem cells | MedicalXPress (05:27) Clinical researchers at Hannover Medical School (MHH) have succeeded for the first time in stopping the usually fatal course of pulmonary hypertension thanks to a novel therapeutic approach. Pulmonary hypertension is a type of high blood pressure that affects the arteries in the lungs and the right side of the heart. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), blood vessels in the lungs are narrowed, blocked or destroyed. In some people, pulmonary hypertension slowly gets worse and can be life-threatening. A three-year-old girl suffering from so-called pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) was treated a total of five times with mesenchymal stem cell products obtained from a human umbilical cord. The researchers' analysis showed that the products of the stem cells from the umbilical cord were able to improve regeneration in the damaged blood vessels, inhibit inflammation of the blood vessels and curb damage to certain parts of the cells. Professor Dr. Georg Hansmann, head of the Translational Cardiopulmonary Biomedicine research group, talked on the treatment's success:“The treatment led to a significant improvement in growth, exercise tolerance and clinical cardiovascular variables and reduced the number of plasma markers in the blood that can be detected in vascular constriction and inflammation." After six months, not only was there a clear improvement in health, but there were also no undesirable side effects.First time there is a therapy for people suffering from pronounced forms of pulmonary hypertension The team assumes that such a therapy must be repeated at regular intervals in order to be successful long term, in the case of chronically progressive, often therapy-resistant pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Japan Is Dropping a Gargantuan Turbine Into The Ocean to Harness 'Limitless' Energy | ScienceAlert (08:53) Japanese engineers have constructed a true leviathan, a beast capable of withstanding the strongest of ocean currents to transform its flow into a virtually limitless supply of electricity.IHI Corporation – has been tinkering with the technology for over a decade now, partnering with New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in 2017 to put their designs to the test. In February, the project passed a major milestone with the completion of a successful three-and-a-half year field test in the waters off Japan's southwestern coast. Prototype called Kairyu330 tons 20 meter (66 foot) long fuselage flanked by a pair of similar-sized cylinders Housing a power generation system attached to an 11 meter long turbine blade. The device can orient itself to find the most efficient position to generate power from the push of a deep-water current, and channel it into a grid. IHI estimates that if the energy present in the current could be harnessed, it could feasibly generate around 205 gigawatts of electricity, an amount it claims is in the same ballpark as the country's current power generation.Enormous amount of potential in the ocean's tumultuous movements Kairyu was designed to hover roughly 50 meters below the waves – as it floats towards the surface, the drag created provides the necessary torque on the turbines. The turbine blades rotate in an opposing direction keeping the device relatively stable. Churning out a total of 100 kilowatts of power. With demonstrated success at withstanding what nature can throw at it, Kairyu could soon have a monster sibling swinging 20-meter-long turbines to generate a more respectable 2 megawatts.I covered another tidal turbine The Orbital 02 developed a Scottish Engineering Company back in episode 55 that was able to generate 2 MW of power. Woman receives 3D-printed ear made from her own cells | The Verge (12:23) Around 1,500 babies born in the United States each year have microtia, a condition where one or both ears are underdeveloped or missing entirely. A regenerative medicine company, 3DBio Therapeutic, announced in a press release doctors successfully transplanted a 3D-printed ear made from human cells onto a woman born with the rare ear deformity microtia. Part of the first clinical trial of the technology, Marks a major step forward for tissue engineering. 3DBio Therapeutics has an ongoing clinical trial with 11 participants testing its AuriNovo ear, a personalized tissue implant to replace the missing ear in these patients. This experimental process involves taking a biopsy from the patient's existing ear and pulling out cartilage cells. Those cells are then grown and 3D printed into the shape of the patient's ear. The ear keeps regenerating cartilage over patients' lifetimes, and because it is made from their own cells, it's less likely to be rejected. Executives from 3DBio Therapeutics told The New York Times they thought their technology could potentially print other body parts like noses and rotator cuffs and, eventually, complex organs like livers and kidneys.Ears are simpler than organs and, unlike livers, aren't necessary to keep people alive, so it'll be a long road toward that potential future. NASA assembles a UFO research team to study ‘unidentified aerial phenomena' | TechCrunch (16:22) NASA has announced the formation of a study team dedicated to UFOs — or unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) Starting this fall, the study will have researchers identify what UAP data already exists, determine how best to collect UAP data moving forward and develop methods to study the nature of UAPs, for both scientific and aerospace defense reasons. Part of the team will be Daniel Evans, the assistant deputy associate administrator for research at NASA's Science Mission Directorate, who stated:“Over the decades, NASA has answered the call to tackle some of the most perplexing mysteries we know of, and this is no different … I do want to underscore that NASA is uniquely positioned to address UAPs, because who other than us can use the power of data and science to look at what's happening in our skies? And quite frankly, this is why we do what we do.” This isn't the first program dedicated to UAP research:1952 and 1969, the United States Air Force (USAF) studied UAPs under Project Blue Book. In 2017, The New York Times revealed a Pentagon UAP research program called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), which ended in 2012 due to lack of funding. NASA will not be seeking to develop explanations for UAPs, extraterrestrial or otherwiseThis is more of an information-gathering mission — one whose results will be shared publicly, unlike many findings of the DoD — that may open the door for further UAP research and analysis.
In this episode, I talk to Daniel Evans. He is the CEO and founder of Evans and Company. He helps high-growth Entrepreneurs and CEOs in the health, food, beauty & fitness space by building their financial confidence and reducing burnout to have more time for the things that matters most to them.We talk about investing in the stock market, investment apps for new investors, qualities of a good financial advisor, and so much more. It's 5:00 PM on Monday, May 23, 2022. Do you know how interest is calculated on your loan? As the remaining settings for interest and swap payments based on the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) cease in June 2023, and as markets continue to get comfortable with the Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) as a LIBOR replacement, uncertainty insofar as interest and hedge payments are concerned persists. In this episode, partners Jay Wardlaw, Daniel Evans, and Gordon Peery raise questions and make recommendations for determining whether caps and swaps may become unmoored from the loans which they were designed to hedge – and the steps and costs associated with amending CRE hedge documentation. “Springing caps” and other solutions are also presented in the current rising interest rate environment.

A high-level understanding of opinion letters is a useful tool for anyone working in commercial real estate (CRE)—including businesspeople and next generation attorneys. Guest hosts Daniel Evans and Jay Wardlaw, co-chairs of Seyfarth's Real Estate Finance practice, are joined by Cameron Weil, counsel in Seyfarth's Real Estate department, to discuss the foundational basics of delivering opinion letters to lenders in CRE transactions, including: • What are opinion letters? • Who provides the opinion letters for a given transaction and to whom are they addressed? • What are the main types of opinion letters typically delivered in connection with an ordinary CRE finance transaction? Notably, Cameron, who serves as chair of the Finance and Development subcommittee on the NYC Bar Association's Real Property Law Committee, was recently part of a group that published a model legal opinion which can be used by CRE attorneys in New York.
Ezio Pinza was the first person to sing Some Enchanted Evening when South Pacific opened on Broadway in 1949. His granddaughter, Sarah Goodyear, recounts his extraordinary life story: from international opera singer, to political prisoner, then a star of musical theatre. Perhaps best known for its 1958 film version, South Pacific famously starred Rossano Brazzi as Emile de Becque. However his singing voice was provided by opera star, Giorgio Tozzi. His son, Eric Tozzi, recalls hearing his father practice Some Enchanted Evening in their California beach-side home. Canan Maxton runs the charity, Talent Unlimited, which supports student musicians. Some Enchanted Evening was the signature tune to her own love story, which inspired her to launch that organisation. Alan Titchmarsh is best known as a TV gardener, but he has a surprisingly good voice. Some Enchanted Evening is a childhood favourite which reminds him of his parents, but he couldn't have foreseen the day when he would sing it live at the London Palladium for an ITV audience (credit to ITV All Star Musicals, produced by Multistory Media for the extract used). Daniel Evans is the Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre. He has recently staged a well-reviewed production of South Pacific; one which explores the racist theme Rodgers and Hammerstein originally sought to address in their Broadway production. He explains the role Some Enchanted Evening plays in the storyline of the show. Julian Ovenden played Emile de Becque in the Chichester production (which, in 2022, will also be staged in Manchester and London before a national tour). He describes what it's like to perform this very famous and much anticipated song. Produced for BBC Audio in Bristol by: Karen Gregor
