Born and raised in LA's South Bay, MEGG has achieved significant milestones such as performing at Dodgers Stadium, headlining at Saint Rocke Music Venue, and opening for bands like The Used. This summer, she will be playing at Van's Warp Tour in Long Beach, California. The conversation begins with MEGG recalling her first concert experience, a Madonna show, attended with her parents and a friend, which left a lasting impression on her as a child. They discuss various best concerts she has attended, including performances by Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and Missy Elliot. This inspires MEGG to share how these experiences shaped her musical career, leading her to attend the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and later the University of Southern California's Popular Music Performance Program.MEGG recounts forming several bands along the way, including Runway MMC with her friends, supported by her mother's visionary clothing line idea, and Party for One, a pop-punk band she started with her buddies from USC. MEGG's career took significant turns with these projects, growing from performing at college parties to headline venues like Saint Rocke. MEGG delves further into pivotal moments such as playing the Musink Tattoo Music Festival, opening for The Used, and the journey to secure a spot at Warped Tour 2025. MEGG's experiences exhibit her resilience and dedication to her craft amidst various challenges and the evolving music industry landscape. Towards the end of the interview, MEGG discusses her musical influences, her recent single releases, and plans for upcoming projects, such as an EP to be released in the fall following her performances at Warped Tour. She emphasizes the importance of staying true to her musical style while being versatile across different genres. Stassi is overdue for a solo ep, and this one's delightfully unhinged—in a post-great Mother's Day kind of way. She kicks things off with the Taylor Swift subpoena drama, Blake Lively's messy role, and why Taylor is clearly the real victim. She also reflects on her first actually relaxing Mother's Day: sleeping in, family breakfast, and sweet, sweet alone time. While digging through old memory boxes, Stassi found her fashion inspo scrapbooks and realized she's always been that girl. Her style? “Ornamented minimalism.” Plus, she's coming in hot with a Mini Kelly rant—let's just say she has more to say after her appearance on Jackie Schimmel's podcast Bitch Bible. And yes, Hartford's new full-on Spice Girls obsession complete with daily Spice World screenings brings everything full circle. Thanks for supporting our sponsors:Progressive: Visit Progressive.com to see if you could save on car insurance.Ro: Ro's Insurance Checker lets you know if you're covered for GLP-1s for free. B Movies are the Best Movies This week we get together to talk about Ashlyn's pick, the 1997 cinematic masterpiece Spice World World-famous pop group the Spice Girls zip around London in their luxurious double-decker tour bus having various adventures and performing for their fans.
A chaotic, shambolic and critically panned parody, the first on-screen incarnation of Ian Fleming's novel ‘Casino Royale' received its London premiere on 12th April, 1967 - with final edits still being made in the projection room. Nonetheless, it went on to take an extraordinary $40 million at the box office. Hardnut hero James Bond's adventures had become a swinging Sixties sex comedy starring Peter Sellers, thanks to Fleming's disasterous decision to sell the movie rights to actor Gregory Ratoff for a song long before Bond was known all around the world thanks to the highly succesful film versions of his later books ‘Dr No' and ‘From Russia With Love'. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly reveal how producer Charles K Feldman assembled such an impressive cast list for his 007 ensemble, including Orson Welles, Ronnie Corbett and Ursula Andress; explain how an on-set visit by Princess Margaret prompted an enormous clash of egos; and ponder why ‘the Spice World of the Sixties' became such a box office hit… Further Reading: • ‘Casino Royale movie review & film summary' (Roger Ebert, 1967): https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/casino-royale-1967 • ‘The Casino Royale calamity: how Peter Sellers turned Bond into a laughing stock' (Daily Telegraph, 2021): https://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/0/casino-royale-calamity-peter-sellers-turned-bond-laughing-stock/ • ‘Casino Royale: Official Trailer' (MGM, 1967): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onhWav2DejM Love the show? Then, Simon reviews Warfare, director Alex Garland's follow-up to 2024's Civil War; an even more immersive frontline thriller set during a single campaign of the Iraq War in 2006, told from the ‘memory' of co-director Ray Mendoza, and starring all the internet's boyfriends. It only took us eight years but we finally reached 150 episodes. How about that? To celebrate, we squeeze into matching Union Jack dresses and slam our bodies down and wind them all around to discuss Spice World (1997), the notoriously bad (but secretly good?) Spice Girls movie. To elder millennials, this movie's a big honking deal, folks, and we pull out all the stops to unpack exactly why that is. And to then marvel at how, of all the directions they could have gone with a Spice Girls movie, this is what they made. Bonus video: We name our favorite movies about bands, real or fictional. For Valentine's Day, we're celebrating the greatest American love story of all time: Isabella Swan and Edward “The Bad Guy” Cullen. That's right, after years of threatening to turn the podcast into a full-time Twilight show, we're finally doing it. For one episode, at least. But how to tackle such an enormous endeavor? Well, we've found the two perfect people to help us in our quest: Courtney and Rose from the great Fiction Fixation podcast. The four of us unpack our different Twilight journeys, discuss the odd figure that is Stephenie Meyer, try to determine the connection between Twilight and Mormonism, unpack the demented sexual politics of this franchise, and, finally, we all confess how much we'd want Edward to bite our necks. In part two of our Spice Girls special, we delve into the cinematic and commercial heights of the Spice Girls' career, starting with the chaotic yet iconic Spice World: The Movie. Despite its campy charm being savaged by critics, the film became a box office hit and a cultural touchstone, embodying the group's playful energy. From its frantic production schedule to its critical reappraisal as a beloved spoof, the film marked a defining moment for the group, proving their ability to thrive even under immense pressure. We also explore the Spice Girls' relentless work ethic during the Spiceworld era. Writing and recording an album while filming a feature movie, they churned out hits like "Stop" and "Spice Up Your Life," topping charts and setting records. Their decision to fire manager Simon Fuller and take control of their careers, while shocking at the time, highlighted their determination to remain true to themselves amidst the chaos of global fame. The episode reflects on the personal sacrifices that came with their meteoric rise. From homesickness to the pressures of constant media scrutiny, the toll of superstardom is revealed through candid accounts from the members themselves. Yet, their resilience shone through, as they continued to break records, perform to sold-out crowds, and connect with fans worldwide. Fast-forwarding to their reunions, we discuss how the Spice Girls' legacy continues to captivate. Whether through electrifying reunion tours, Olympic performances, or their influence on new generations of pop stars, their message of empowerment and individuality endures. Even Victoria Beckham's birthday celebration sparked rumors of yet another reunion, proving that the Spice Girls' magic remains timeless. Finally, we reflect on their lasting cultural impact. From redefining what it meant to be a girl group to spearheading the “girl power” movement, the Spice Girls inspired millions with their boldness, diversity, and unity. Their journey, filled with triumphs and challenges, cements their status as not just pop icons but as a phenomenon that changed the face of music and culture forever. In episode 389 of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive into the fascinating world of movies that the late, great film critic Roger Ebert despised but they personally adored. From cult classics like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Usual Suspects to offbeat gems like Freddy Got Fingered and Spice World, they explore why these films resonate with them despite Ebert's critiques. They also reflect on the value of developing a critical eye when choosing which movie critics to trust. Tim the Nerd then shifts gears to discuss a major shakeup in the media landscape: Universal Comcast's decision to sell off the majority of its cable networks, including USA Network and MSNBC. What does this mean for the future of television? Tim shares his insights and speculations. Finally, he examines the controversy surrounding Joe Scarborough's meeting with Donald Trump, despite Scarborough's long history of vocal criticism against the former president. In the late 90s, close to half of british state intelligence apparatus and nearly 60% of the GDP was involved in some manner in maintaining a phenomenon known as 'cool Britannia'. The Spice Girls were a girl band formed from open auditions with the aim of creating a group capable of cutting across every demographic in britain, creating a cultural juggernaut that could rival the Britpop boybands of the day. At the height of their success, their manager's brother wrote a film about them, with them playing themselves. This is that film. ----- FREE PALESTINE Hey, Devon here. They dive into the movie's gigantic tour bus interior, the pregnant friend, and why Ginger Spice kisses an alien on the mouth. Due to a programming change, we present you with our appearance taking over the 90s movie podcast, Filmshake. They swapped in for us a couple years back when they covered Solarbabies, and we jumped on their feed to discuss 2 films from the 90s, the punishment movie Spice World (that only Doug was subjected to) and the main course, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. Enjoy the show and know that we'll be back to our regular format next week.Visit our YouTube ChannelMerch on TeePublic Follow us on TwitterFollow on InstagramFind us on FacebookVisit our Website

Les, Kurt, and Jason have assembled to dissect Hallmark's rather weighty Movie A World Christmas Record. But first, Kurt's Blac Chyna news lets Les know that Blac Chyna is set to appear in the movie he picked for next week, Lifetime's I Thought My Husband's Wife Was Dead. The biggest relevation of this episode of the podcast comes when Kurt reveals that he knows someone who knows THE PARK RANGER! And Kurt knows someone in this week's movie, though it's not the Sixth Spice Girl (a reference Jason and Les don't get because they've never seen Spice World!) Hallmark covers lots of new territory with this movie (Autism! Deadbeat dads! Sexless marriage! Lying by Omission), but none of that matters as much as building a the world's biggest Jenga (which should have been the world's largest Christmas Tree made of books). Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode look at how popstars - and their fans - have been depicted in film and TV over the years. Mark speaks to record producer and documentary director Jeremy Dylan about some of the most memorable pop idols on screen, from A Hard Day's Night to Spice World. And he talks to legendary songwriter Paul Williams about his dual role as both star actor and music composer on Brian DePalma's prescient 1974 pop fable Phantom of the Paradise. Meanwhile, Ellen looks at portrayals of pop fans on screen with critic Kayleigh Donaldson, and screenwriter Janine Nabers, who co-created the recent Beyonce-inspired satirical comedy-horror TV miniseries Swarm.Producer: Jane Long A Prospect Street production for BBC Radio 4

Danny and Sandy...Troy and Gabriella...Baby and Johnny. All vacation romances that became classics in their own right. And then there's another that's maybe not quite as classic: the iconic, infamous, and Golden Raspberry award-winning duo of Justin and Kelly. ~~~“American Idol” season one was an entertainment behemoth in the 2002. It introduced us to sassy judges and gave the world the multi-hyphened legend, Ryan Seacrest. But besides that, it also introduced the world to Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, the heroes of this episode. After season one was done, the next logical step was taken – LETS MAKE A MOVIE! And a movie, they made… “From Justin to Kelly” was a musical/rom-com/beach flick released in the summer of 2003. Considering how popular “American Idol” was, the film HAD to be a success, right?...This week Ray teaches Rob about the departure of Brian Dunkleman, how apparently Ft. Lauderdale has a platform on the beach where you can tap dance, and how the guy who wrote the script for “Spice World”, also wrote this script. This week, we discussed Spice Girls. We had a wide-ranging discussion that hit on Spice World, the concept of the blank slate, Pink Floyd's The Wall, feminist history, AI, Riot grrrl, Ars poeticas, "Girls to the front," The Electric Slide, math, horniness, wanting, sound poetry, sex vs. dancing, having sex with your friends, and, of course, above all else, friendship. Our theme song is by Golden West Service, featuring Shreddie Vedder.
Improviser Allie Entwistle returns to talk Spice World, falling asleep in public, and Furiosa.
Flip. Your goddamn. Hair. We revisited classic early 2000s girl power, music video aesthetics, and racism in Charlie's Angels (2000). Other topics: baby feminism, noted scab Drew Barrymore, and went wrong with that reboot. An anti-imperial saga dreamed up by a Nixon-supporting conservative... a White Saviour narrative adapted to a time skeptical of White Saviours... folks, you could say that DUNE: PART TWO (2024) and its source material are a land of contradictions.
