Hört also rein, denn hier gibt's ordentlich was auf die Ohren!

STAR TREK GAMING NEWS Edited by Thomas Reynolds Time Is On Our Side By Cat Hough Well, the time has come at last [again–Ed.]! Star Trek Online announced the Temporal Recruitment Event returns on all platforms, just in time to celebrate Star Trek Day on September 8th. Since we're playing through the Original Series-era content for this event, the devs have gone through and made some visual updates and updated cutscenes as well as improving the missions themselves. Plus, Temporal Agent goals have been updated to include some new ones, and removed some goals from missions that are no longer in the game, so you don't have to worry about finding Temporal Probes in places that you can no longer reach. You'll be able to earn bonuses for reaching level 60, marks for all of the reputations that have been added to the game, and rewards for engaging in R&D and specializations. Existing Temporal Agents will be able to complete these new goals as well, and if you've already finished them, you can claim the rewards immediately. Tell me they changed the prefix code, at least. Image: Cryptic Studios. Remember, to become a Temporal Agent and gain access to the rewards, you must make a new TOS Starfleet character, during the event, then you must play the tutorial until you receive your special Temporal Agent transceiver device. Once you receive the device, your character is a Temporal Agent and you can complete the goals any time and claim the rewards, even after the event ends. This week on Episode 469 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out’ what’s coming to Comic-Con@Home, and our thoughts on the Lower Decks Trailer! In Star Trek gaming, we share with you which game developers are taking actions for a more equitable future, and we relieve several old favorites - like Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Sir Patrick Stewart Turns 80 As far as Birthday’s go, 80 is an incredible milestone -- And when you’re Sir Patrick Stewart, everyone wants to recognize your achievements! On June 13th, Sir Patrick celebrated his 80th Birthday and friends, fans, and news outlets did their very best to honor the veteran actor. The Guardian, for instance, interviewed several of SirtPatStew’s friends and colleagues to share some of their most memorable moments with the actor. For instance, David Tennant had this to say, "He’s fit as a fiddle and so strapping! How many 80-year-olds are the lead in their own science fiction series? There’s nothing of the 'old man' about him. He’s very virile – I’m sure he wouldn’t mind me saying that!" Sir Ian McKellen told The Guardian, "Eighty is, of course, a milestone but he has had so many remarkable achievements in his careering journey from Huddersfield, to Stratford, the West End, Hollywood, to Broadway and beyond, I’m sure there will be no silly talk about retirement." And - of course - many of his co-stars from TNG joined him for a celebration and shared a picture of them together. Fortunately, they were all wearing their masks and maintaining social distancing! Happy Birthday, Sir Patrick! https://twitter.com/berman_rick/status/1282867166321098752?s=21 Robert Sallin & a new Trek Film On July 9th, Den Of Geek’s Don Kaye spoke with Robert Sallin -- producer on the 1982 film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. According to Kaye, during an interview about the film, Sallin hinted that he’s currently in the process of developing a script for a new Star Trek Film. I don’t have it completely written, but I have a lot of it written. I have a concept for another Star Trek feature that I’ve had discussions with Paramount about — at least on the phone. This one I guarantee you is unlike anything that has been done in Star Trek, and it will be part of the canon, but they (the studio) don’t want to talk about it until they see what Noah Hawley does. -Robert Sallin via Den of Geek Comic-Con@Home w/ Star Trek The pandemic may have put a damper on most of our plans this year --- including the cancellation or rescheduling or re-imagining of convention events. San Diego Comic Con for instance, has shifted their presentations to an online format and Star Trek will be participating in several ways. Generally, the event takes place Wednesday July 22 - Sunday, July 26. However, you don’t have to stay glued to your computer all three days for the Star Trek Studded events. Thursday, July 23 @ 10AM PT, The Star Trek Universe Virtual Panel will feature discussions with Executive Producers Alex Kurtzman & Heather Kadin -- Followed by a virtual table read of Star Trek Discovery’s episode “Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2” with many of the episode’s featured actors. Later, Mike McMahan takes the virtual stage to discuss the new animated comedy series, “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” McMahan will be joined by several of the voice actors from the series including Tawny Newsom, Jack Quaid and more. It all wraps with a “Star Trek: Picard” panel that includes Sir Patrick Steward himself along with fan favorites like Jonathan Frakes, Jonathan Del Arco, Marina Sirtis, and Jeri Ryan -- among many of the other key actors from the series. During an Instagram Livestream, Mary Chieffo expressed enthusiasm over the prospect of returning as L’Rell in the new Pike Series: “Strange New Worlds” ---- It would be nice to see a discussion about what the world will look like in this series set in the same universe as Star Trek Discovery. Who else could reprise their roles? https://www.instagram.com/tv/CCeW1mtJLdT/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Lower Decks - Trailer If you were up early and perusing social media on Sunday, July 12th, your feed may have been flooded with tweets about a leaked trailer for the new animated series, “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” But, before long, Star Trek’s official websites and social media channels went ahead and officially released it to the masses. The 2-minute and 15 second video takes us on a wild ride aboard the USS Cerritos and provides a sneak peak of the show’s overall tone. We also get a solid peak into the types of characters we’ll be following like Jack Quaid’s Ensign Boimler and Tawny Newsome’s Ensign Mariner. https://youtu.be/V3RkBKedKWw Grant Imahara Before we move on, Captains - we need to take a moment and remember the life of Grant Imahara - who passed away suddenly on June 13th. Imahara - who is best known for his role on Mythbusters and - later, portrayed Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek: Continues. He was only 49 years old. Silence Continues We’re still holding our coverage of updates from Star Trek Online but, thought it prudent to share with you a list of other game developers who have stepped up to support social justice, equality, and the Black Lives Matter Movement. Blizzard has donated to several organizations Bungie has designed items to sell with all the proceeds going towards Equal Justice Initiative Niantic (Pokemon Go) is donating $5Mil to "Black gaming and AR creators that can live on the Niantic platform" and "US nonprofit organizations that are helping local communities rebuild." EA is donating $1Million to the Equal Justice Initiative, the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, and other organizations Ubisoft is making a $100,000 donation to the NAACP This is but a short list of game developers and companies who have taken measurable actions to support Social Justice and Equality. Gamespot has a very extensive list --- links will be in the shownotes. Star Trek Timelines Event: “Lightbringers” by Thomas Reynolds After last week’s Flashback to Dozaria, Star Trek Timelines returns to the future...present...whatever, with “Lightbringers”. The Galaxy-type Event runs from this Thursday, July 16th, to Monday July 20th for the Romulan Star Empire, Federation, and Ferengi Traditionalist factions, with 5-star Mother L’Rell as the Ranked Reward crewmember. Event crew granting high bonuses for “Lightbringers” include last week’s Ranked Reward 5-star Kamin, the new 4-star Traveler Wesley, and the returning 4-star Commander Tomalak. Other Picard and Wesley variants will grant small bonuses. Star Trek Timelines’ Offer Wall Comes Tumbling Down on iOS by Thomas Reynolds https://stevivor.com/news/potential-star-trek-timelines-privacy-issue-sees-resources-shut-protest/ Well, that didn’t take long. On July 10th Star Trek Timelines developer Wicked Realms announced it was removing its controversial Offer Wall feature from the iOS app indefinitely. Ostensibly this is because “due to Apple guidelines the offers that can be presented on iOS are too limited to be of interest.” Third-party developers taking issue with Apple’s App Store constraints is certainly nothing new, and it’s significant that the Wall’s alive and well on the game’s Android version. However, recent player base outcry (and fan resource website outages) protesting perceived privacy threats almost certainly influenced the decision. Wicked Realms acknowledged “ongoing concerns regarding the Offer Wall in general” and their advertising partner ironSource’s business practices in particular. This week on Priority One --- things are already beginning to shake up with Star Trek Picard; Tarantino starts to put some distance between himself and Star Trek; and Paramount places bets on VR. In Gaming News, the mobile game Fleet Command is getting a huge update; then, we wrap our year with TWO interviews with Cryptic Studios to discuss 2019 milestones and take a glimpse into 2020…. Featuring an interview with Executive Producer Andre Emerson. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ: If “Star Trek Development Project #2” isn’t a film directed by Tarantino, what do you hope it is? TREK IT OUT by Shane Hoover Picard News The hype shuttle for Star Trek: Picard has definitely hit maximum warp, Captains. In fact, Picard is the number one most anticipated TV show of the coming year. At least according to metrics compiled and reported by the website IMDB. And if this week’s news reported by Deadline is any indication, CBS is well aware of the hype. The new series doesn’t even premiere until January 23rd, but Season Two has already been budgeted with over $20.4 million in tax incentives by the state of California. For reference sake, Deadline reports that Picard’s $20 million incentive is “the most any small screen project has ever been awarded in the California Film Commission program since then Governor Jerry Brown officially expanded the credits to $330 million a year”. So while the cast and crew have been cagey when asked about a potential Season Two, it’s hard to argue with $20 million in tax appropriations. Plenty of questions still hang over Season Two speculation, though. One big uncertainty for fans is the role that Season One showrunner Michael Chabon may occupy. On December 10th, Variety reported that the Pulitzer Prize winning author and his wife, producing partner Ayelet Waldman, inked a deal with ViacomCBS property Showtime to adapt his novel “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay”. The pair will serve the new project as Executive Producers and joint-showrunners. Now surely, Chabon will remain creatively connected to Picard Season Two, but it seems likely these other commitments will see him step down as showrunner. With lots to still speculate about, only one thing seems certain after the Season Two news. My previous prediction that Star Trek: Picard would be a single season swansong for the great Captain… well just maybe I was wrong. Unless! What if they still send off Jean-Luc in the first season finale, and the show carries on the adventures of the rest of the cast aboard the U.S.S. Picard? It could happen. Trekantino On The Rocks? While we’re in the mood for speculation, let’s revisit some news we shared last episode. If you recall, we discussed recent statements from new ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish, and among those was his confirmation that two new Star Trek films are currently in development. The obvious contenders at the time were the Kelvin Timeline’s Star Trek 4 and the much discussed Quentin Tarantino Star Trek project. But comments made by Tarantino this week are casting doubt on whether his Star Trek project may proceed at all. The Oscar-winning writer/director sat down for an interview with ConsequenceOfSound.net as their Filmmaker of the Year. In the far reaching interview, Tarantino once again echoed his commitment to walk away from filmmaking after 10 films. And when questioned whether Star Trek represented that 10th film, he answered, “I think I’m steering away from Star Trek, but I haven’t had an official conversation with those guys yet.” He went on to add “But in a weird way, it actually kind of freed me up. I mean, I have no idea what the story of the next one’s going to be. I don’t even have a clue.” Paramount VR Deal Paramount Pictures and VR platform service Bigscreen, Inc. have announced a new partnership. Under the new arrangement, Bigscreen’s virtual theater platform will distribute classic Paramount movies in 10 countries around the world. Starting December 16th 2019, Bigscreen will show four new movies every week, with each movie run lasting one week. Showtimes will begin every 30 minutes as live pay-per-view events. Captains, you’ll be happy to hear that the Kelvin Star Trek films are among the titles in the December lineup. The virtual screenings will include 2D movies as well as select 3D movies rendered to create a unique 3D experience for Virtual Reality viewers. Besides just watching the films, Bigscreen offers users a virtual lobby with personal avatars and voice chat to add a social aspect to the experience. CEO and Founder of Bigscreen, Darshan Shankar, says “We are excited to enable fans around the world to chat and watch films together in our virtual movie theater.” Bigscreen’s service supports the Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, HTC Vive, Valve Index, SteamVR, and Microsoft Mixed Reality. To find out more, and to see a list of upcoming films, Trek out the links in our show notes. I know you’re all expecting some jokey post about games addiction, but we here at Nation of Gamers take it very seriously. For example, take the plight of our very own Wes Wilson. You may notice that he’s missing from this week’s show. He’ll probably be gone for the next couple of weeks as well; it sort of depends on when the doctors release him. You see, Wes has been diagnosed with acute games addiction. He has been understandably reluctant to talk about his problem. In fact, the rest of us in the DWP had no idea there was a problem at all. In fact, we had no idea he even played the game he has become addicted to.The game in question is Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force. Not even Elite Force 2… just Elite Force. Here’s a picture of Elite Force, just so you know what I’m talking about.Weird, right? I don’t even think Wes likes Star Trek that much. And let’s face it; even Star Trek fans hate Voyager. Well, except for Seven of Nine. But I’m getting off track. When asked about his addiction, all Wes can do is shout “I’M CUCKOO FOR STAR TREK VOYAGER: ELITE FORCE!” over and over and over again. It’s really annoying, and that’s the main reason we didn’t want him on the show this week. I know the show is pretty bad already, but that would make it so much worse.Anyway, please keep Wes in your thoughts and prayers over the next couple of weeks. Also, the post image is totally not a bad ‘shop, but is an actual picture of Wes taken in the sanitarium. This week we talk almost exclusively about games addiction. Spencer and Brent really got into it over this. Seriously, Eric threatened to spray them both down with the hose so they’d stop fighting. Enjoy!
