Mario Farwell, play-writer, librettist, and screenwriter stopped by to speak with Nancy about his life and career.  ------ Mario Farwell is a native of St. Louis Missouri. He attended the University of MO at Kansas City and received a B.A in Theater. While in Kansas City, he founded The Black and Avant-Garde Theatre. After graduating college, he moved to New York City and lived there for eighteen years. His plays and musicals have been produced off-off Broadway in NYC, San Diego, CA, Minneapolis, MN, and St. Louis, MO. Mario Farwell is the founder and current director of St. Louis Writers' Group in St. Louis, MO. The group's mission is the development of local scriptwriters' works. ——— Mario has been writing plays, musicals, and screenplays for over thirty years. His insight into the complexity of the human psyche began at an early age. As a young boy, he would spend hours at his mother's beauty shop. There he carefully observed the many eccentric characters that patronized the shop. He soaked in all the wonderful gossip and stories that the neighborhood women would spin. His play The Seamstress of St. Francis Street was strongly influenced by this experience. The Seamstress of St. Francis Street was fully staged by First Run Theatre in August 2007. The play also won the Inaugural E. Desmond Lee Playwriting Competition, and the award-winning play was turned into a feature film entitled Pennies for the Boatman. StarFest has an incredibly rich history, a true family feel and it doesn't hurt that it's the first show of con season. This year was no different. The one thing that was different was the location. We really wanted to love it, but it just didn't have that same je ne sais quoi. While it did take away from the magic just a little, not as much as I thought it would. I still very much enjoyed traditions like star-studded panels, pictures with cosplayers and of course the dealer room. Due to Mrs. McFavorite only being able to join me on Friday night, I got to experience the con as a daddy daughter date day and with one of the OGest of OG sci-fi fans, mother-in-law, Schmommy McFavorite. I'm flying home from Denver. Starfest was awesome but I'm a little tired from the weekend. Ken and Wayne wish every Mother a happy Mother's Day... Well, not Ken, because the UK celebrates it some other time. Ken has finished up the paperwork to attempt to bring back his Kitten and wayne spends an entire day celebrating himself, with the help of a group of friends. Ken can't quite scratch his building itch with Minecraft, while Wayne spends his time editing photos from Starfest and enjoying the gifts of games from all of his Steam friends. CCP is concentrating on Eve all the time now, and Sony figures it can save the subscription model for MMOs by giving people value for their money. Mr. and Mrs. Chiclo recently traveled to Denver to check out Starfest, a southwest Sci-fi, horror, and most importantly of all, comic convention. The lovely couple sit down to tell Average Joe and Sean all about it.
