He attended the University of MO at Kansas City and received a B.A in Theater. While in Kansas City, he founded The Black and Avant-Garde Theatre. After graduating college, he moved to New York City and lived there for eighteen years. His plays and musicals have been produced off-off Broadway in NYC, San Diego, CA, Minneapolis, MN, and St. Louis, MO. Mario Farwell is the founder and current director of St. Louis Writers' Group in St. Louis, MO. The group's mission is the development of local scriptwriters' works. ——— Mario has been writing plays, musicals, and screenplays for over thirty years. His insight into the complexity of the human psyche began at an early age. As a young boy, he would spend hours at his mother's beauty shop. There he carefully observed the many eccentric characters that patronized the shop. He soaked in all the wonderful gossip and stories that the neighborhood women would spin. His play The Seamstress of St. Francis Street was strongly influenced by this experience. The Seamstress of St. Francis Street was fully staged by First Run Theatre in August 2007. Personal favorites from this set include K.D. Lang's Summerfling, Shapeshifters Lola's Theme, Beyonce's Naughty Girl, Depeche Mode's Precious, Bettte Midler's Beautiful and the song that began Victor's meteoric rise to fame, Madonna's Frozen. Speaking of Madonna, his remix of Bedtime Story from the album Bedtime Stories blends so well with her Ray of Light offerings, I'm blown away how mind-numbing good this remix is. Clearly that song (co-written with Bjork) was a stepping stone for what was to come and while Victor's remix came way after the original release, it could easily sit nicely between Sky Fits Heaven and Skin. The other bootleg included here is Britney Spears Everytime, which frankly never lent itself to being remix-ready as the official remixes never did anything for me. This remix (which was never released by Jive) feels a bit unpolished if unfinished. Nevertheless, it would have been a much-welcome addition to the official release because Victor was clearly on to something making it worthy of inclusion. With the 4th of July weekend coming up and some other personal matters to attend to, I'll be dropping the third and final volume tomorrow for your holiday enjoyment. Until then ...ENJOY! Cindy Sherman's Office Killer: Another Kind of Monster (Intellect) One of the twentieth century's most significant artists, Cindy Sherman has quietly uprooted conventional understandings of portraiture and art, questioning everything from identity to feminism. Critics around the world have taken Sherman's photographs and extensively examined what lies underneath. However, little critical ink has been spilled on Sherman's only film, "Office Killer," a piece that plays a significant role both in Sherman's body of work and in American art in the late twentieth century. Dahlia Schweitzer breaks the silence with her trenchant analysis of "Office Killer" and explores the film on a variety of levels, combating head-on the art world's reluctance to discuss the movie and arguing instead that it is only through a close reading of the film that we can begin to appreciate the messages underlying all of Sherman's work. The first book on this neglected piece of an esteemed artist's oeuvre, Cindy Sherman's "Office Killer" rescues the film from critical oblivion and situates it next to the artist's other iconic works. Dahlia Schweitzer is a writer, teacher, and former cabaret star who has toured widely in Europe and the United States. Schweitzer's works include the books Queen of Hearts, Breathe With Me, Seduce Me, Lovergirl, and I've Been a Naughty Girl; essays in publications including Hyperallergic, Jump Cut, and The Journal of Popular Culture; and an album of electronic dance music, "Plastique." Dahlia currently teaches classes on writing, art, and film in Los Angeles while working towards her PhD in Cinema and Media Studies at UCLA.
