Maybe we spoke too soon. Dr. Elizabeth Strom, a professor of urban politics and policy at The University of South Florida and an editor at DRays Bay, a Tampa Bay Rays blog on SB Nation, returns to our podcast this week. Two years ago, Episode 143 to be exact, Dr. Strom appeared to discuss what then looked like a solid deal for a new ballpark in St. Petersburg. A lot has happened since - most of it not good for Rays fans, at least Rays fans that want the team to stay in the Tampa/St. Pete area. Dr. Strom spills the tea and brings us up to date in this episode. You can support Hooks & Runs by purchasing books, including books featured in this episode (if any were), through our store at Bookshop.org. Send us a textWith TV absent for this week's recording, EstoBro made a call to the bullpen to bring in Tampa Bay Tay as a special guest for the episode. They open the show by discussing the controversial fashion choices made by the MLB this year with new baseball caps (1:15). The pair laugh well over the jokes made all over the internet, followed by formal introductions. Tampa Bay Tay is one of the biggest Tampa Bay Rays fans alongside her dedicated fanship to other Florida-based teams. EstoBro engages her with the ongoing dramatics that have taken place with the team and their home stadium at Tropicana Field (17:30). The primary issue focuses on the Rays playing at Steinbrenner Field for the 2025 season and the politics ownership is facing after Hurricane Milton destroyed the roof of the Tropicana Field. As the pair focuses on the positives the Rays will face for the season, it is rather apparent that the entire baseball universe wants Rays' owner Stu Sternberg to sell the team to a well-rounded group that can move the Rays in the right direction. After the bulk of the show focuses on that topic, the pair also dissect the Rays' season and how they will fair based on predictions (51:00). With new roster additions and some major players coming back from injury, they show their optimism that the Rays can play above expectations and possibly return to the playoffs. With the Tokyo Series taking place this week, EstoBro and Tampa ay Tay also look at the outlook of the rest of the league (68:15), including anticipation for the World Baseball Classic taking place at the start of next season. Theme song made by iamRavedadInteract with the Gents of the podcast on the following social media platforms:X (Formally known as Twitter) YouTube InstagramBlog/websiteJoin the Discord serverSubscribe to the official playlist of the podcast

As the Tampa Bay Rays finalize the deal on a new stadium and head to the MLB playoffs, and the Bucs start their season in winning form, could our region be 'Champa Bay' once more? The deal has been a long time in the making, and as owner Stu Sternberg noted, the road to remain in Tampa Bay has been bumpy. The Rays talked of building a stadium in Tampa. Then they wanted to play one-half of the season in Montreal before that got shot down by Major League Baseball. Joining Florida Matters host Matthew Peddie to discuss the new stadium and what it means for the Rays are Spectrum Bay News 9 sports reporter Mike Cairns, long time Tampa Bay sports journalist Joey Johnston, and JoeBucsFan.com columnist and podcast host Ira Kaufman. They also discuss the Rays heading into the MLB playoffs, the Buccaneers in the post-Tom Brady era and the Lightning preparing for the start of the 2023-24 NHL season.

Today's word of the day is ‘disclosure' as in hidden as in Freddie Freeman as in a report came out last night that Freddie Freeman's agent Casey Close had withheld the Atlanta Braves last offer to Freeman. Just insanity. There is no way this happened. There is no way Alex Anthopolous wouldn't reach out to Freeman. There is no way any of the Braves wouldn't have reached out to Freeman. So what is going on here? (16:15) So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the Tampa Bay Rays owner being sued again by his limited partners. You wanted to know if Stu Sternberg would be forced to sell. Hmmmmm. (32:35) Review: Leave No Trace. (37:35) NPPOD. (38:35) James Harden opted out of his $47M option. Why did he do this? The Sixers are going to pay him more money. Very simple. (42:20) What is the MLB Anti-Trust Exemption? What makes it so important? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
