"Regarding fixed income, when is a good time to get in and what price to get in at. There are conversations about short-duration bonds. There is also a resurgence in interest in senior loans. 2022 ETF flows and asset gathering now total $509B, which is the second-most for a year ever. Investors can harvest their losses to lower taxes. Consider flexible active mandates for the core of your fixed income portfolio," says Sue Thompson.

Sidro Garcia is a guitarist, singer and composer who is best known for his band “Sidro's Armada”. Sidro's Armada - originally called “The Sneakers” - formed in 1960 in Albuquerque, NM. In 1963 the band had their first appearance in Las Vegas, backing up singer Sue Thompson. The band began a long run opening for headliners like Louis Prima, Della Reese, Billy Eckstine, Jim Nabors, Barbara Eden, George Burns, among others. Sidro's Armada remained a top draw in Las Vegas, where they were the first to play Rock n Roll music in the lounges, and dressed more like rock stars than in the powder blue tuxedos of the day. In 2011, Sidro's Armada was inducted into the "Las Vegas Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" Today, Sidro is writing and recording with former Armada musician Cliff Fields, publishing their songs through their own company, Ben Claw Publishing.

Art and travel-lover Sue Thompson of La Cucina in Victoria, Minn., returns to the oil paintings of Ashley Dull to enjoy her handling of light on trees. “Her paintings are layered, layered, layered with lots of oil paint and so colorful. The leaves on the ground in her fall colors look as if you could step on the leaves and hear the crunch,” Thompson says. Thompson particularly loves Dull’s painting “A Path Forward,” where two paths through a sun-lit birch forest come together as one. The painting took Dull 10 years to complete, as she paused after her children were born. “She’s amazing at capturing the light,” Thompson said. Vasiliki Papanikolopoulos founded Coimatan to celebrate local independent businesses. At Gallery 360 in Minneapolis, she discovered the mixed media art of Neysa Winterer. What Papanikolopoulos first thought to be brush strokes in Winterer’s art turned out to be carefully torn pieces of paper. Winterer uses those bits of paper to mimic the impressionist brush strokes of Vincent van Gogh as well as to create her own landscapes and miniature scenes of homes. Karl Sundquist of Virginia, Minn., who plays in the bands Big Waves and Bonfires and Pocket Knife, took an early listen to the newest album by Rich Mattson and the North Stars, and likes what he hears. The album “Skylights” is more widely available on Friday. In lieu of a release party, the band will hold an “interactive video celebration” on YouTube that includes several homemade song videos. Mattson is based on the Iron Range, where he runs the Sparta Sound recording studio in addition to playing his own music. His band has “an unbelievable, rich, good rock sound,” Sundquist said.

You can’t stop the waves , but you can #learn to surf. #Changes, #challenges and #problems can arise at any time, whether you like it or not! So it’s #important to identify the things that you can and cannot #control. Imagine a #difficult situation you have encountered today or at any other time. How did you deal with it? Where you able to stop and rationally think it through? Or did you completely or even partially fall apart? How you respond to problems determines how #successful you will likely be in solving them. You will not always be able to resolve a situation in the way that you would like, but you need to take #control when you can, and #act decisively when you can not. So how can you solve problems or challenging situations. I use a method which I read in a book called The #Critically #Reflective Practitioner by Neil Thompson and Sue Thompson. It’s a versatile problem solving and time and stress management tool that identifies 3 ways to respond to challenges; 1) Control : Identify the issues or elements of the situation that you control 2) Influence : Identify the elements that you can’t control, but that you can influence 3) Accept : Identify the things that you can neither control nor influence, and adapt accordingly. An easy way to remember is using the acronym C-change I-influence A-accept Understanding these potential responses helps you put problems in #perspective more easily and easily get a sense of what you can and cannot #accomplish. This then enables you to focus your efforts where they will have the most impact. So next time you find yourself dealing with a challenge or problem apply this C.I.A. You will be surprised how quickly you will resolve issues and move on to other more #productive things to do with your time and #stress. Let me know how you get on.

It's a Mother's Day Double Feature on Pod Sematary as Chris and Kelsey watch one of the greatest horror films of all time! ...and it's entirely superfluous remake... The Classic Film: Psycho (1960) "A Phoenix secretary embezzles forty thousand dollars from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother" (IMDb.com). Alfred Hitchcock's horror masterpiece not only helped define his legacy but also the legacy of horror films as quality cinema. The Modern Film: Psycho (1998) "A young female embezzler arrives at the Bates Motel, which has terrible secrets of its own" (IMDb.com). Gus Van Sant's remake may tell you a lot about the unreplicable je ne sais quoi of great filmmaking, but it's a bad look for the director himself. Get more at podsematary.com! Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones Dies at the Age of 62 Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones died last Friday at the age of 62 in Kingston Jamaica. Her soul influenced reggae ballads propelled her to popularity in the seventies along with Judy Mowatt and Pam Hall. Jones was born Barbara Nation in Kingston but grew up in Manchester, a rural parish located in central Jamaica. She began her musical career cutting a cover of American country singer Sue Thompson's Sad Movies with the Soul Syndicate Band for Randy's Records. Most of her popular songs included, Evie Sands' Angel in The Morning and Walk through This World with Me, originally done by Englebert Humperdinck and Dream Lover. Jones toured with Jimmy Cliff as a backup singer, before giving up secular music in the early 1980s. She became a Christian and eventually recorded four gospel albums. In May, Jones returned to her reggae roots by doing two shows in Brazil along with bassist/singer Lloyd Parks. They did shows in the cities of Teresina and Belem. Jones was shocked she had fans in Brazil, a vibrant market for so-called vintage reggae. “I didn't know my songs were so popular there. People always told me, I should go to Brazil as they love me there,” she told the Jamaica Observer during an interview after her return. Barbara Jones is survived by her husband, three children and three grandchildren. The thanksgiving service for her life is scheduled for the Gregory Park Baptist Church on January 10. Join Founder and CEO of Thompson & Associates, Eddie Thompson, as he speaks with Sue Thompson, MS, President and CEO of UnityPoint Health in Fort Dodge, IA, on women in philanthropy. In this podcast, they will cover the following points, and more: 1. Article goals 2. Personal legacy 3. One example of a fun program 4. What’s the “magic pill” to help CEOs see the value of philanthropy? Sue's Article Link: http://www.ceplan.com/files/downloads/pdf/womeninphil-st-0614.pdf *The end of this podcast was cut short just slightly. Here is the conclusion of this podcast: Eddie: What’s the magic pill to help CEO’s see the value in this? Sue: The magic pill, unfortunately in healthcare, is the fact that reimbursement in the traditional way of putting the bottom line together is diminishing quickly. And, we’re seeing a dramatic transformation of not only how we’re reimbursed for care, but how we’re going to be required to provide care to our population. And, in that transition, and frankly in the transformation, new ways of being able to sustain organizations will be required. And Philanthropy is the great frontier of promise for the sustainability of healthcare organizations going through tremendous transformation.
