This episode is brought to you by DoDay Hobart Run The Bridge. Brett & Joel shed light on one of their favourite races on the Australian calendar before taking the listeners through Patreon housekeeping. This includes an announcement of our next special series (which will run weekly in addition to The Summer Show and all the extra bonus content. You'd be silly to miss this one. We have FTK hats and FTK perfume dropping next week (remember FTK Patreon's receive early access to merch and 20% off the entire store. TRAINING WEEKS This week it's Jude who's flying in km reps on the aqueduct at Falls Creek and is able to back it up with an even more impressive session on Friday morning. Seriously this man is flying. Jack lays down another solid week of training before the two hint at their upcoming American indoor campaign. Joel gets through km reps unscathed and has one of his best threshold workouts in recent memory. THE BIG Q This week Joel's athlete Danny writes in about cross training with a upper leg nerve injury. The three guys all talk from their personal perspectives about how best to tackle a situation like this. After answering the question Jack, Joel and Jude all have a laugh at one of Jude's recent cross-training related stories. GIVE SOME KUDOS Joel hypes up Yoshi and his family for driving all the way from Melbourne to treat himself, Brett & Ryoji before cooking a Japanese banquet feast for the entire MTC training group. Jack highlights his love for coconut water - Joel backs this statement up however Jude likens it to "corn-flakes-water". Lastly you've probably seen lots of him across the MTC socials but Jude delivers a hefty amount of kudos to our Japanese training partner Ryoji - the happiest man on the mountain. TWHSOITWTWATSA Joel brings up a Burger King marathon, Jack is certainly unsure about the Houston Half Mara finish and Jude brings up a social media comment from an Australian UFC star (or as Joel calls it - fighting sports). The episode closes out with an absolutely wild story about one of Jack and Joel's old friends Callum "Buddha" Drake. (We forgot to do the segment but rest assured Cam won and we will talk about AOTW each episode from now on). Finally, Grego has hard launched into the marathon block with a juicy Friday.

We meet Precious Okoyomon – poet, artist, and chef – stages sculptural topographies composed of living, growing, decaying, and dying materials, including rock, water, wildflowers, snails, and vines. For Okoyomon, nature is inseparable from the historical marks of colonisation and enslavement. In their work, plants like kudzu – a vine native to Asia that was first introduced by the US government to farms in Mississippi in 1876 as a means to fortify erosion of local soil, which had been degraded by the over-cultivation of cotton, and then turned to be uncontrollably invasive – become metaphors for the entanglement of slavery, racialisation, and diaspora with nature, nonetheless holding the capacity for change and revitalisation.Through their work, Okoyomon explores the intricate interplay between nature, chaos, and regeneration. Raised in the expanses of Ohio's Midwest, Okoyomon's formative years were steeped in the natural world. ‘My first love is very much the Earth, the soil,' they say in this new episode of ‘Meet the artists.' The sentiment informs their multifaceted practice, encompassing installations, poetry, and culinary arts. Characterized by what they describe as an ‘organic flow,' in their work each medium seamlessly intersects with the others to create ‘the endless poem.'Their invasive garden installations frequently feature kudzu, a vine introduced to the American South post-slavery, which Okoyomon employs as a potent metaphor for colonization. The kudzu's unrestrained growth overtakes a space, embodying themes of chaos and natural reclamation. ‘What dies, dies. What grows is sprung up inside of that. And the beauty of everything is that it regenerates,' they explain, underscoring the cyclical nature of their practice.Precious Okoyomon's work can be seen at Fondation Beyeler's ‘Summer Show', May 19 – August 11, 2024. They have also co-conceptualized the show. Their work is also on view as part of the Nigerian Pavilion at the 60th Biennale di Venezia 2024.Follow @DevilInTraining Hosted on Acast. We've done a version of this show every year since 2013. And we did it in 2011. We probably even did one in 2010. (We just can't prove it.) So it's a bit of a tradition. It's a tradition that … makes some people angry, we realize. And that has a lot to do with how we define the term “song of the summer.” We use the Amanda Dobbins definition: Let's be clear about how this works: There is no such thing as a “personal” song of summer. We do not anoint multiple songs of summer. There can only be one; the Song of Summer, by its very definition, is a consensus choice. It is the song that wrecks wedding dance floors. It is the song that you and your mother begrudgingly agree on (even though your mom has no idea what rhymes with “hug me” and won't stop yelling it in public). It does not necessarily have to hit No. 1 on the charts, but it should probably be on the charts because it must be widely played. It must bring people together. It must be a shared enthusiasm. So it's our job here to figure out what song from 2024 will get added to the long list of song of the summer classics like “Party Rock Anthem,” “Call Me Maybe,” “Despacito,” and “Blurred Lines.” And if we're wrong, well, it really just won't matter at all. Did streaming break the box office? It sure seems like it, with attendance and ticket sales in a perpetual slump, layoffs plaguing juggernauts like Pixar, and Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos claiming that he could've made the Barbenheimer without a theatrical release (we disagree, Ted!). We'll break it all down and preview this weekend's new Netflix movie Hit Man, which Dianne saw during its brief theatrical run. But first! Summer also means it's time for a parade of new streaming shows you've probably never heard of! Can you pick the real shows from the ChatGPT-created hallucinations? Last night was another great Knicks game that came down to the final minutes again. The Knicks got a call or two and Jalen Brunson scored over 40 again. There was a scoring snafu in the Knicks game for a very short time yesterday. A caller wonders if a team ever won a game because of a mistake with the scoring. C-Lo returns for an update, but first Gio said C-Lo sneezed right in his face. Gio said you can hold in a sneeze and C-Lo said you can't always. C-Lo starts with all the sounds from last night's Knicks win. Reggie Miller talked about coming back to the Garden tomorrow. He said he would be hurt if he didn't hear, ‘Reggie sucks'. Gio said Reggie should be in the ‘best ugly athletes' category. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer is taking a red eye tonight and will just show up around 8am tomorrow morning. We also announced Kickoff To Summer at D'Jais in Belmar, NJ.

In episode 171, our hosts reviewed the Winter Fancy Food Show in Las Vegas. They will be attending the Summer Show in New York and so will this show's guest, Laura Dadap, co-founder of Djablo Sauce. Laura and company will be in the Incubator Alley section and the trip to the show won't be a long one; Laura was born and raised in Queens. For the genesis of the company, let's start with the name, Djablo. It is Philippine in origin, and in the region where Laura's father grew up, the letter “I” is replaced with the letter “j”. The original recipe came from Laura's father and the letter “j” made the family think of a boxing jab punch, so the hot sauce with a punch made perfect sense. As with any business name or logo, one has to be careful with infringing on trademarks, especially those owned by mega corporations. Laura started quietly to make sure she did not raise the ire of big Taco Bell and their Diablo Sauce, which is sold by the bottle as well as inserted into food orders by the packet. Laura started by doing an Internet search for companies spelling the word using a “j” and saw an opening. Flying under the radar until they had some money to lay a strong legal foundation, she then hired an attorney with a solid background to file the trademark correctly. Laura and our own Sarah Marshall of Marshall's Haute Sauce share a bond. Both were on season 22 of Hot Ones, the show about hot and spicy foods. And Bobby Flay, the Emmy Award-winning food TV pioneer and acclaimed restaurateur has recommended both Sarah and Laura's hot sauces. Djablo Sauce is the first locally produced, family owned and operated small batch Filipino hot sauce in the United States. Their zesty ginger and garlic forward sauce packs a punch with round, comforting heat is the answer to the ingredient focused, flavor fanatic searching the shelves of their local grocery shop to make any food more interesting. They officially launched sales in June 2019 with 2 flavors in 2 sizes ranging from $10-20 for those who like a little bit of spice, to those who want a Djab on every bite. They use all natural superfoods like beet and spirulina to keep the colors consistent, and they hand pick all the produce that goes into the sauce. Laura also thinks out of the box, offering recipes to spice up foods you probably had never thought about. See those recipes and shop online at their website: https://djablosauce.com/. Wet Hot American Summer is an absolute cult classic. Boasting a cast on the cusp of superstardom, it is everything an eccentric comedy full of funny people should be. As in, it is hilarious. Wet Hot American Summer eschews plot in favor of nonsensical hijinks and non sequiturs. The things that happen vaguely follow its story, but they are much more in service to its anarchic stylings. That sense of chaos and utter unseriousness may have been why it never found its footing at the box office. On a modest budget of just $1.8 million, it failed to break $300,000. That said, Wet Hot American Summer's unabashed spirit of insanity is the primary driver to it gaining cult status, as well as earning it a long-gestating prequel and sequel series on Netflix. Today we are with Lori Harder on the Earn Your Happy Podcast! In this episode, Lori and I discuss how to show up authentically online while still respecting your own boundaries, as well as getting to a place where you can share from a scar, and not a wound. Both Lori and I have done a lot of work to overcome our limiting beliefs around money, and in this episode, I share my powerful story of how I worked through the deep shame I carried around my secret $30k debt. We also talk about how to grow your confidence muscle to start pitching yourself and getting what you want! KEY POINTS: How I got to a place of sharing my scars, and not my wounds The 3 steps to releasing shame How to gain the confidence to pitch yourself and get anything you want The four most important questions to ask before you try to pitch yourself Reasons why so many of us lack boundaries Re-evaluate why you're seeking validation from others My recentering process whenever I feel out of alignment Happiness is wanting what you already have QUOTABLES: “You can't hide yourself and expect to be seen.” - Julie Solomon “You can change the price of what it costs to access you and boundaries are the currency of that.” - Julie Solomon RESOURCES: [FREE] Are you a content creator ready to take your brand collaborations to new heights? KEY POINTS: The scarcity mindset about money that I had to let go Things I did to fix my money story Ways to create boundaries in your life and business as a mompreneur How to get clear on what you want My biggest advice for working moms QUOTABLES: “A big part of acceptance is that we have to admit that it begins with us and ends with us. We're not helpless. We're not hopeless. We do have the power to change our lives. But admitting that means that we can no longer play the victim.” - Julie Solomon “If everything is important, nothing is important, and I think by having so many to-do's that's really just a mask of learned helplessness” - Julie Solomon “There's no badge of honor in doing it all yourself. You don't have to suffer to succeed. What would it look like if it were easy?” - Julie Solomon RESOURCES: [FREE] Are you a content creator ready to take your brand collaborations to new heights? Today we are with my friend Jasmine Star! Jasmine and I discuss why Awareness, Acceptance, and Action are the most important tools for up-leveling your productivity and can lead you to success in all areas of your life. We also talk about tracing back to our origin story in order to fully step into our truest selves, the power of releasing our limiting beliefs, and why our expectations are just premeditated resentments. KEY POINTS: How authenticity requires going back to your origin story Practicing Awareness, Acceptance, and Action How your expectation is a premeditated resentment Inspiring stories of releasing baggage & limiting beliefs QUOTABLES: “Sometimes others can see in us what we can't see in ourselves, and when we're really able to reflect that back to one another, that's where the real impact is rooted in.” - Julie Solomon “I've had a lot of money and I've had no money, and there's a heaping pile of shame with both ends of that spectrum. Shame does not discriminate.” - Julie Solomon “Expectation is nothing but a premeditated resentment. We are premeditating a resentment that we are going to have over a person, place, thing, or idea by expecting something to be something that it's not.” - Julie Solomon RESOURCES: [FREE] Are you a content creator ready to take your brand collaborations to new heights? We've done this show every year (except 2012) since 2011. (We maybe even did it in 2010. We probably did. I just can't prove it.) So it's a bit of a tradition. It's a tradition that… makes some people angry, we realize. And that has a lot to do with how we define the term ‘song of the summer.' We use the Amanda Dobbins definition: Let's be clear about how this works: There is no such thing as a ‘personal' song of summer. We do not anoint multiple songs of summer. There can only be one; the Song of Summer, by its very definition, is a consensus choice. It is the song that wrecks wedding dance floors. It is the song that you and your mother begrudgingly agree on (even though your mom has no idea what rhymes with ‘hug me' and won't stop yelling it in public). It does not necessarily have to hit No. 1 on the charts, but it should probably be on the charts because it must be widely played. It must bring people together. It must be a shared enthusiasm. So it's our job here to figure out what song from 2023 will get added to the long list of song of the summer classics like “Party Rock Anthem,” “Call Me Maybe,” “Despacito,” and “Blurred Lines.” And if we're wrong, well, it really just won't matter at all.
