Almost thirty years ago, President Bill Clinton formally declared the “President's Initiative on Race” with the goal of jumpstarting a national discussion about race. Arguably, there ended up being more conversation about the initiative than the actual discussions he'd hoped it would inspire. In 2016, former Boston mayor Marty Walsh ushered in a similar citywide race conversation. Last month, GBH announced a multifaceted program to spark a new public conversation about the nation's race history. GBH President and CEO Susan Goldberg joins Under the Radar to discuss the importance of the new “Reckoning and Repair” initiative. GUEST Susan Goldberg, president and CEO of GBH

Nocturnal enuresis is a common problem for pediatric patients that can be quite distressing for children as well as their parents. In this episode join Madeline Snipes, a medical student at the Medical College of Georgia as she discusses nocturnal enuresis with Chief of Pediatric Urology at the Children's Hospital of Georgia, Dr. Bradley Morganstern, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Dr. Susan Goldberg, on an overview of nocturnal enuresis. Specifically, they will review: • The definition of nocturnal enuresis and its basic epidemiology. • The potential causes of nocturnal enuresis. • The appropriate workup for a pediatric patient with nocturnal enuresis. • When referral to a pediatric urologist is indicated. • The various treatment options for a pediatric patient with nocturnal enuresis. • And finally the potential sequelae that may result from untreated nocturnal enuresis. Special thanks to Dr. Jordan Gitlin, pediatric urologist at NYU's Winthrop Hospital, and Dr. Shreeti Kapoor, general pediatrician and associate professor of pediatric medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. We all come from somewhere. Susan Goldberg ponders the factor that changed her father's life journey.
Even people who agree that climate change is a problem don't necessarily agree on what to do about it. And some people still need a little more convincing that the threat is as serious as climate scientists and activists have been telling us it is. It can be difficult for skeptics with serious, well-intentioned questions to find a forum for getting answers. New York Times columnist Bret Stephens knows what that intellectual journey is like firsthand, having gone from climate skepticism to climate evangelism in just a few years, with the help of patient authorities on climate science. Oceanographer and sea level rise expert John Englander was one of the scientists who helped Stephens make that transformation, even inviting him on a trip to Greenland to see receded sea ice up close. Englander and Stephens reunite on stage at the 2023 Aspen Ideas: Climate event in Miami Beach to talk about persisting climate skepticism and effective tools of persuasion. The talk is moderated by Susan Goldberg, the president and CEO of public media company GBH.
Today on Boston Public Radio: We opened phone and text lines to check in with parents and teachers about school vacation week, and the struggle balancing work and childcare. Trenni Casey discussed sexual assault allegations raised by local Olympic runner Lynn Jennings against her former coach. She also spoke on Joe Mazulla becoming the Celtics' new head coach, and blowback to a sexist joke made by golf star Tiger Woods. Jared Bowen reacted to a recently shattered dog balloon sculpture by acclaimed artist Jeff Koons. He also talked about a coffee shop-slash-motorcycle art exhibit in Roxbury, and some other local happenings in the world of arts & culture. Jack Lepiarz spoke about transitioning from the world of radio host to Guinness record-holding whipper and Tik Tok star. He also demonstrated his talents on a piece of pasta held by host Jim Braude. Susan Goldberg spoke about her vision for the future of GBH as a news and public media organization, two months into her tenure as President and CEO. John King discussed Biden's speech in Warsaw, Poland, marking a year of war in Ukraine. He also spoke about Fox News host Tucker Carlson getting access to hours of January 6th security camera footage. We closed out Tuesday's show by opening phone and text lines to hear listener's thoughts on war in Ukraine, one year into the conflict.
Susan Goldberg shows us what can be accomplished with a little doggedness and determination.

Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the US that can present in three different stages. Diagnosis is through a combination of a thorough history, review of systems, physical exam, as well as a two-tier serologic testing. Former Pediatric resident, Dr. James Davis, joins Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Dr. Susan Goldberg, to discuss the evaluation and management of Lyme Disease in the pediatric population. After listening to this podcast, learners should be able to: Recognize common presenting signs and symptoms of Early Localized, Early Disseminated, and Late Lyme disease from a patient history and physical examination Determine whether a patient meets clinical diagnostic criteria and, if not, which lab tests are appropriate for diagnosis of Lyme disease Appropriately prescribe the correct antibiotic choice and duration for patients, depending on variation of Lyme disease and accompanying symptoms Accurately and effectively instruct patients in prevention strategies for tick bites and Lyme disease Special thanks to Dr. Ingrid Camelo, Dr. Rebecca Yang and Dr. Jacob Eichenberger who peer reviewed today's episode. As a busy mom of three, a wife to a traveling hubby, and keeping it weird in Austin, Texas, it's safe to say that my life is never boring. In addition to running my coaching business as C'N'C's CEO, I'm a certified coach for a premier virtual fitness and nutrition program helping others feel better while sustaining a healthy lifestyle. My mom and dad are thrilled that I'm putting my Exercise Science degree to good use. Along with my experience training pro athletes, S.W.A.T. members, and a high school football team, I gained 10+ years experience as the Director of Marketing building multiple court reporting companies. Lastly, I am a published writer, Content Coordinator, and Account Executive for a publication by Best Version Media. They even gave me a monthly “How to” column where I teach others how to be more self-sufficient with common household tasks. Every woman should know how their home functions and what to do if something malfunctions, man or no man. With my husband on the road, searching “How To” on the internet has transformed me into a “Mommy MacGyver”. “I don't know how you have the time.” “You're like a Supermom!” These are common things that people say, but the truth is that life hasn't always been easy or pretty. National Geographic Editor In Chief Susan Goldberg joins the show to talk about the beautiful new book "The 21st Century: Photographs from the Image Collection" and the process of trying to visually tell the story of the last 21 years through the stunning photography that National Geographic is known for. During our conversation Susan and I reminisce on some of the iconic images that you find inside the pages of the book and how they marked the passage of time that was sometimes wrought with anxiety. Episode No. 457 features art historian Michael W. Cole and historian John Edwin Mason. Cole is the author of "Sofonisba's Lesson: A Renaissance Artist and Her Work" which was recently published by Princeton University Press. Cole considers Sofonisba Anguissola's art, how her background, teaching and learning were important to her career and art, and how her relationships with her father Amilcare, her teacher Bernardino Campi, Michelangelo and a series of royals and royal courts resulted in her work -- and in work attributed to her. The book also includes a complete illustrated catalogue of the more than 200 paintings and drawings that have been associated with Sofonisba, and 256 color illustrations in all. Cole is a professor of art history and archaeology at Columbia University. Amazon offers the book for $40; it is also available through Indiebound. On the second segment, John Edwin Mason discusses his 2018 examination of National Geographic's presentation of race in its flagship magazine and the potential applicability of such an institutional audit to the art museum sector. Mason is a professor of African history and the history of photography at the University of Virginia. Mason and host Tyler Green discuss National Geographic editor Susan Goldberg's letter to readers from March 2018.
