On today's episode, I'm joined in the studio by two members of a band that has spent the last 30-plus years embodying the very definition of “indie” music. Barry Privett and Terry Clark are two-fifths of Carbon Leaf, the Richmond, VA band that has spent the past three decades crafting a body of work that blends elements of rock, Americana, pop, and folk, and performing that work to devout audiences in excess of 3,500 times. Along the way, they became the first unsigned, independent band to perform on the American Music Awards, shared stages with the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer and Jason Mraz, among many others, and have consistently taken us back to a time when eclecticism and diversity within a band's sound were considered a positive. During our chat, which took place on the afternoon of their late April performance at Buffalo Iron Works, Barry and Terry spoke freely about their journey, the importance off embracing the moment with a sense of urgency in both life and music, and the trials and triumphs of a life spent being truly independent. We are excited to have Terry Clark with us today and his message is a very powerful one that should not be missed! It's called "THE ROOM!" It begins on a personal level, and then goes on two tell a story about Jesus, and how He worked two miracles, on two people, while making one "house call!"

The Mr. Asia Gang in Australia had started to implode.  Douglas and Isobel Wilson were murdered and on their bodies being located, Clark fled to the UK.  The murders didn't stop.  Within months Terry Clark had arranged for his best friend and associate, Marty Johnstone to be murdered.  This was the final straw, the end of the Mr. Asia gang and their drug empire.  

In this, my 5th. Episode, Part II, of a three-part story on the Mr. Asia Gang - they have now reached the pinnacle of being the biggest heroin distributors in Australia.  With the assistance of the best criminal organisers in Australia, including police, lawyers, and bankers, they are set to becomes the biggest heroin distributors in the world.  But trouble is brewing, Terry Clark is now planning his fourth and fifth murders: killing friends, who, when in trouble with the police, trade information for their freedom.

  Will Maguire is a multi-award winning contemporary blacksmith and sculptor with over 10 years’ experience, one of a very few contemporary blacksmiths in Australia, just outside of Sydney.  He brings blacksmithing into the 21st Century, with a combination of striking contemporary design whilst keeping the integrity of the craft intact with his use of traditional skills learned from masters overseas.  What We Talked About Industrially trained in Australia as a blacksmith and boiler maker. He has spent several years as a journeyman overseas working, learning and collaborating with some of the best smiths in England, USA, Russia, Europe, Ukraine and Ultimo TAFE is the only school that teaches blacksmithing in Australia, it is in Sydney. The program focuses on industrial blacksmithing. Will thinks that the blacksmith craft is growing in Australia, though it is still a pretty small community. Their New South Wales Blacksmith Association has about 130 members. After learning the industrial smithing, Will decided to travel abroad to experience artistic blacksmithing. Will was able to work with Terry Clark on two sets of large gates for Oxford University. Getting blacksmith tools is difficult in Australia, but there is a company who is now distributing a few blacksmith supply tools, the company is Gameco Pty Ltd. The CEO of the company is sponsoring Will to go to the Ypres event to forge a panel for the cenotaph sculpture. The title of his Ypres panel design is “Human Tangle” and it has a few abstract human forms with elongated arms and legs entangled with each other. Expressing the progression and regression of determining what is right from wrong, determining their own fate. The human forms will be riveted to the frame and where they cross each other he will pin (a very small rivet) them together. During the 13th Annual K-12 School Networking Conference of the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) held in Washington, DC in March 2008, Cable in the Classroom helped moderate a panel discussion on Developing 21st Century Skills in School and District Leaders. The late 60's and early '70's were a time of tremendous upheaval in American culture as the hippie generation abandoned the values of their parents, turned to drugs and away from materialism, and went on a search for love and peace.
