My client Zohreh struggled for a number of years without sustained success in losing weight. She also was dealing with health issues like high cholesterol and has a strong family history of diabetes and heart attacks. On top of that, she juggles a full-time job with long commutes. Yet, Zohreh wanted to make a shift - a REAL one - in her weight and health. So she did. She reached out to me and we began working together. In this episode, we'll delve more into Zohreh's weight loss journey, her views on eating plant-based as a lifestyle after 9 months, her increased confidence when eating out and the role guided support played in her plant-based diet transition experience. Have you ever tried to lose weight…then got frustrated when the results didn't stick? That was certainly the case for my client Zohreh. She had tried different diets in the past, but none seemed to give her the sustained results she desired. Until she came to plant-based eating. Coming from many years of eating a pescatarian diet, Zohreh thought making this transition would (and should) be easy. But she ended up feeling lost and unsure of how to best eat on a plant-based diet, to reach her desired goals of losing weight and reducing her risk of diabetes, heart attacks and other health problems. After getting support through coaching though, this all changed. Staying plant-powered became workable and enjoyable, even while Zohreh continued to juggle a full-time job and long commutes. Listen in to this interview between Zohreh and I, recorded 9 months after we started working together. In this episode, you'll hear about her background, past weight challenges and some of the key positive changes she has enjoyed since moving into a whole food plant-based diet. These include weight loss, lower cholesterol, greater energy and a greater confidence in being able to stay weight stable, even after trips and holidays. Listen in to gain smart tips for eating out from Zohreh and be inspired by her story! Supplements, supplements, supplements…it seems that everywhere we turn – on social media, in our email inbox, radio ads, on TV and in stores, we're coming across ads trying to persuade us to buy this or that new dietary supplement as a nutrition boost. But which ones are REALLY necessary for our health and which ones are just … ‘hype'? Let's look at one of these nutrients today – vitamin D. In this episode, we'll explore some of the key roles that vitamin D plays in our body and what current research and findings are showing for this nutrient. I want to help you enjoy the best nutrition and health on a plant-based diet lifestyle. Curious? Let's dive into this together. Meet me on the inside! Do you have a loved one suffering from dementia, and have you started noticing a few worrying signs of it in yourself? Maybe it's not you, but others around you who have noticed…and that's concerning you more than you want to admit. Either way, you know you want to stay as mentally sharp and alert as you can, for as long as possible. So do we just sit and wait, hoping that our minds won't fail too quickly and badly? Or is there something we can to do to slow down or prevent rapid mental decline, by changing the foods on our plates? Let's talk about this. In this episode, we'll see how eating differently – specifically adding in more fiber-rich plant-based foods to our meals – can help build a stronger, more mentally active brain and even cut dementia risk. Have you seen the new 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and wondered if you should follow them? You may have seen talk about them on the news and social media, and don't know quite what to believe. The slogan of eating more ‘real foods' sounds good though, and the New Pyramid diagram seems to show that all foods - including butter, steak, whole milk and cheese – would be fine to eat and that we don't really need to worry about the amounts eaten. But DO we need to worry? And what about the recommendations about protein and nutritional adequacy issues in vegan and vegetarian diets? Let's talk about this. In this episode, we'll take a deeper dive into the New Dietary Guidelines for Americans and look at 3 more KEY things you need to know about them, to inform your own health. We'll touch on protein, what the Guidelines say about vegan and vegetarian diets, and what has been found through research. Listen in! The new 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans were released on January 7, 2026 and already they have created quite a stir. Perhaps you've seen the Guidelines and wonder what to make of them too. For one, there's a featured image of an inverted pyramid comprising foods like butter, steak, whole milk and cheese. Then when you get onto the realfood.gov website, you are immediately shown three images - a stalk of broccoli, a carton of whole milk, and a piece of steak. But are all foods healthy and good for long-term health as long they don't come processed and from a factory? This is definitely worth discussing. So in this episode, let's take a closer look at these Guidelines recently released. In this first part, I'll highlight the positive recommendations made within the Guidelines and then 2 important things you need to know about them. I hope you'll walk away with greater clarity into the matter and be more informed and equipped to make the best food choices for your health. Ready? Grab a warm cup of tea and let's get started! Jill is back in the co-host seat this week for a topic-packed episode. Tom opens the show asking if $61,000 seems like a lot for a Hyundai—any Hyundai. The hosts discuss the Korean maker's luxury/value equation, and note that Tom's test car, a 2026 Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid is, without question, a luxury vehicle. Listen in for more of the conversation. Tom goes on to share his frustration with Stellantis for killing all of Jeep's “4Xe” plug-in hybrids, along with the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Listen in for some crankiness. Still in the first segment, Jill details her CES Chinese-car adventure. Jill was able to take short drives in a number of luxury electric Zeekr models (a division of Volvo's parent company Geely) and came away very impressed. Her quick takes on these vehicles are worth a listen. Are these premium EVs coming to the U.S? here's the scoop. In the second segment, Jill and Tom are joined by friend of show and sustainability expert Robert Collangelo. Robert addresses the fallacy that EVs are a threat to the U.S. electric grid, and details the real power-consumption challenges that lay ahead for the country. It's a great conversation you don't want to miss. In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Is it a Dodge?” quiz.
