SHINING WITH ADHD  EPISODE #131: Balancing Dad Mode and ADHD with Therapist Eli Weinstein The Childhood Collective 10/18/2023   SUMMARY Parenting ADHD comes with it's own challenges, but what about when you are parenting with your own ADHD? Today on the podcast, we are interviewing therapist Eli Weinstein on what it was like to grow up with ADHD and what managing looks like for him as a dad and practice owner. Eli shares how he keeps up with mental tasks, sensory overload, and getting support from his community. In this episode, we'll discuss communication tips, and mindset shifts for parenting through our own neurodivergence.    MEET ELI WEINSTEIN Eli is a Therapist (specializing in relationship + parenting) who currently runs his own private practice in NY + NV. He is married to his wife Ariella and has two beautiful children, Rikki + Max and lives in sunny Las Vegas. He created ELIvation + The Dude Therapist Podcast host. He became a therapist to fill a need and create a modern outlook on mental health to create a more digestible and relatable view on mental health to help those in struggling times and add some extra inspiration and motivation into everyday life. Eli has been featured on Kelly Clarkson Show, The Trauma Therapist, Mimosas With Moms, Holding Space, Breaking Taboo, Therapy Thoughts w/ Tiffany Roe, and on multiple podcasts ranging from parenting, relationships, and mental health. His main goal is to help people on their journey to add support, care, empathy, expertise, and insight with no BS. He runs events, seminars, and individual coaching on topics from mental health awareness to public speaking coaching, relationship coaching, and confidence-boosting.     AFFILIATE INFORMATION We talk A LOT about executive function and what it takes for our kids with ADHD to plan and execute important tasks in their lives. But what about us? The mental load of parenting is real, and there is SO MUCH we have to use our executive functions for. One of those things is meal planning. What does everyone like? What will my kids eat? Which family member can have dairy, and which one can't have gluten? The list goes on and on. We know nutrition is important, but balanced meals take a backseat between school, therapy appointments, activities, and more. That is why we are loving Hungryroot. They offer “good-for-you groceries and simple recipes.” We have loved having one less thing to worry about.  It is important that you know that a peaceful, guilt-free, healthy relationship with food is possible! Many women express concerns that they cannot trust themselves to be around certain kinds of food without feeling like they have lost control. While it may seem counterintuitive, letting go of all the restrictions and food rules that you have learned over the years is critical in re-establishing a healthy relationship with food.  While "unlearning" all food rules may seem like a daunting task, know that it is possible! It is done through small, simple steps that are designed to empower you and help you reconnect with, and trust, your intuition. You already have everything you need to be the expert of yourself and your body! In this episode, we dive into three of seven helpful principles that are necessary in order to learn to trust yourself again and re-establish a healthy relationship with food.  Show notes Certified Therapists and RD's specializing in eating disorders Emily Fonnesbeck https://emilyfonnesbeck.com/services/ Tiffany Roe https://mindfulcounselingutah.com/  National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) practitioner guide https://map.nationaleatingdisorders.org/ Brene Brown: The Anatomy of Trust https://brenebrown.com/videos/anatomy-trust-video/

I am talking all things therapy - my personal experience with therapy, the common stigmas attached to therapy, and the realities and benefits of therapy. March 30th, 2019, was my two year anniversary in therapy. Since that day, I have tried CBT therapy, EMDR therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, hypnotherapy, and many therapy support groups. I also helped start a support group through my foundation, End the Stigma, with my therapist running the group. The group grew so popular that there are now three support groups for teens here in Henderson, Nevada. My point is I. LOVE. THERAPY. But the rest of the world shames and stigmatizes therapy. I'm here to break down those stigmas and fight for the strength it takes to reach out for help. Some of the stigmas or myths about therapy that I go over:You are weak for going to therapy. You weren't strong enough to do it on your own. Or you must not have a good support system or great home life. It isn't "bad enough" to go to therapy.I tried therapy and didn't like my therapist so I guess therapy doesn't work for me.I'm uncomfortable talking to a stranger about my personal life.I don't need therapy because I have God and prayer to fix my problems.Going through the motions of simply showing up to therapy is good enough to make progress in my life. All of these are false, exaggerated, and damaging beliefs that hold people back from going to therapy. Listen in to hear what I have to say regarding each one and what the reality looks like!//Here are the resources from Tiffany Roe - therapist, influencer, speaker, and owner of a mental health facility.
