    Ivy Insights

The Body Grievers Club podcast is an incredibly valuable resource for anyone on a journey towards body acceptance and self-love. Hosted by Bri, the podcast combines vulnerability, confidence, and a feminist perspective to create a safe space for listeners to explore their own body image issues. Bri's tone is gentle and reassuring, which is essential when discussing sensitive topics such as body shame and disordered eating. She recognizes that experiences with these issues can affect people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and abilities, and works hard to give a range of voices a platform on her show.

One of the best aspects of The Body Grievers Club podcast is Bri herself. Her admirable blend of vulnerability and confidence makes her an engaging host who truly understands the value of the messages she shares. By speaking with conviction and humility about her work and personal experiences, she helps listeners feel seen, worthy, and heard. Bri's words and wisdom help individuals feel supported in their own body image journeys.

Additionally, Bri's episodes are filled with knowledge and kindness. She offers informative insights that challenge conventional notions of body image while providing validation for those who may have felt alone in their struggles. Through personal stories and teachings, listeners can begin to dismantle the scripts and rules they've ascribed to for many years.

As with any podcast, there may be some aspects that could be improved upon. However, it is difficult to pinpoint any specific negatives about The Body Grievers Club podcast as it consistently delivers valuable content that resonates with its audience. Perhaps the only downside could be that some listeners may want more episodes or longer seasons to satisfy their appetite for such enriching discussions.

In conclusion, The Body Grievers Club podcast is a must-listen for anyone looking to heal their relationship with their body. With her authentic approach, Bri provides encouragement, understanding, and empathy to her listeners. The show's focus on body grief takes conversations about body image to a deeper level, challenging the notion that body acceptance is solely about liking what one sees in the mirror. Overall, this podcast has the potential to change lives and expand perspectives when it comes to body love and self-acceptance.

Joining me today is my great friend Steph Greene. Steph is an expert on fat sex and in this episode we'll get into the nitty gritty of self-acceptance and what that means within sex and relationships. We'll talk about how there are such societal double standards between men and women and how women especially tend to not believe and even argue with someone who finds them attractive because it's so deeply ingrained that a fat body cannot be desirable. Many of us are uncomfortable asking for what we want, or receiving what we want or need. In intimate relationships and in other areas of life, we need to be able to ask and receive so that others can have the opportunity to give, and so that resentment doesn't have a chance to take hold. All of it comes down to knowing what you like and don't like, getting comfortable with yourself, and getting comfortable speaking up. Recently I went to the doctor for a checkup. I had been seeing this doctor for 4 years and I had just seen her 6 months ago, and my blood work looked great. This time, I felt off, my blood work was off, and I hadn't been taking my thyroid medication regularly. For the first time ever, my doctor brought up intentional weight loss as a solution to my current issues. She even suggested surgery, which I have already had and had a horrible experience with. To say I was shocked is an understatement. I could have walked out of that appointment and not gone back. I could have let her blame my autoimmune diagnoses on my body size. Instead, I asked myself how I would advocate for one of my Body Grievers, and instead explained how intentional weight loss was never going to be an option for me because of my disordered past. Luckily, she listened. Check out my resources at https://bodyimagewithbri.com/ A Podcast Launch Bestie production

    Healing Burnout

Burnout is highly celebrated in our culture, in America especially. Are you familiar with the phrase, “I'll sleep when I'm dead?” We're expected to hustle and grind. When I was very young, I connected my worth to my doing. The attention and compliments I got when I did something that made someone else happy felt really good. Particularly living in a fat body, if I was productive, I was worthy. How can we go about healing from burnout that keeps our cup empty? Realign with your values. Prioritize what's important and what's urgent. Delegate what you can, which may mean humbling yourself to be able to accept help. Detach yourself from the outcome. Find new hobbies. What is play for you? Can you pair a task you don't like doing with a task you do like doing? What can you do to delegate and conserve your energy? Burnout is perpetual, but it can be healed. CONTENT NOTE: In this episode I will speak about medical abuse. In this episode, we're going to challenge that inner critic narrative. After I shared on IG about a doctor's appointment in which we saw a significant increase in my health values after making only 2 changes: reducing the stress in my life, and knowing that at my appointment we wouldn't talk about my weight. Even though this was a huge win for me, I found myself in a panic attack. My body had been ready for a fight that didn't happen because of the years of medical trauma that I've experienced. When we experience trauma, we essentially experience it twice: in the body, then in the brain. Our logical mind can convince us that we're not in that same danger anymore, but the body still remembers. In this episode, I'll walk you through some of the process that I went through with my EDMR therapist to heal some of the wounds I've held for so long. Today's guest is Steph Gaudreau, who is a strength nutrition specialist and lifting coach helping women lift weights, get stronger, and experience the life-changing magic of focusing on what you can do instead of only focusing on what you look like. Today we'll chat about her transition away from restrictive diet culture and how that experience frames her work today. Her experience with Paleo and the restrictions that went with it led her to learn how intuitive eating really is better for your body, especially when it comes to fitness goals. In the wellness space, a lot of it is oversimplified into “just eat this way.” With that comes the moralization of how well you're able to do that, and if you don't follow the program perfectly at all times that makes you less of a person. There's also a disregard for marginalized peoples - the vast majority of industry “leaders” are cishet white dudes. We have a long way to go when it comes to examining our internal and external biases about who can and can't be a health or nutrition expert. The 5 stages of grief are commonly known, so in this episode i'm going to discuss how this relates to my Body Grief Method. Body grief is the loss or losses accompanied by the conscious choice to stop attempting to change one's body size. Moving through the 5 stages of grief is much the same: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The acceptance stage doesn't mean loving every curve and dimple, it just means the absence of distress. Peace requires discomfort. We know peace because we know discomfort. The steps of the Body Grief Method: Building awareness around how we talk to ourselves, how we talk about our bodies, and how we interpret the world of bodies. Active unlearning, which requires us in the moment to choose differently. Over time, the wound of grief still exists, but it's more familiar. Everything takes time. In community, you don't have to feel alone. Check out my resources, course, and membership community “The Body Grievers Club” at https://bodyimagewithbri.com/ A Podcast Launch Bestie production

Ending The War On Our Bodies

I hesitate to use the word “war,” but when I think of my own journey with my body, that's what it felt like. It felt like a war I couldn't win. Diet culture sells us a vision, but the game is rigged. There is no end to the road. Some things folks have shared with me about grieving their bodies: Believing their bodies need to look a certain way Fitting into the world Ability to get medical advice that isn't fatphobic Part of ending the war on our body is to deprogram from diet culture. Society tells us that having fat is bad and immoral, while having a small body is preferable. In reality, malnutrition can literally kill you. Weight loss and gain should be amoral, without judgment. The way to get all the way on the body positive boat is unconditional positive regard. What does body love mean to you? For example, the ability to accept and love your body how it is. This goes totally against diet culture's emphasis on loving how your body looks. I can promise you that if you can let go of what you've always done, if you're willing to let go of the praise for your “effort,” that makes space for grief. In order to heal, you need to sit in the suck. Grieve what you're going to be losing in order to allow your life to change for the better.
