Although China won't admit it, its huge balloon hovering over the United States, in plain view of ordinary Americans, was a huge geopolitical blunder. To boot, that we shot it down and were able to confirm it was equipped with spying equipment, which negated their claim that it was just a weather balloon, internationally undermined their credibility. But we have had our own share of blunders. First, we sent reconnaissance balloons over the Soviet Union, until they told us to stop it. Second, our "weather" plane (no doubt similar to China's "weather" balloon), was shot down over the Soviet Union. This is the infamous story of the U-2 spy plane, which became a major embarrassment for the Eisenhower administration. To get the full U-2 story and much more about aerial reconnaissance, I spoke with Dr. Tim Schultz, Associate Dean of Academics at the US Naval War College. Prior to this, Dr. Schultz served as the Dean of the United State Air Force School of Advanced Air and Space Studies. And prior to his teaching career, he was a U-2 pilot. Dr. Schultz is a retired colonel of the United States Air Force and was the Commander of the 1st Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron, which is a U-2 combat squadron. He is the author of Air Power in the Age of Primacy: Air Warfare since the Cold War - a 2021 book; and also The Problem with Pilots: How Physicians, Engineers, and Airpower Enthusiasts Redefined Flight - a 2018 book. Powerball winner Tim Schultz joins Tim O'Brien to talk about what it's like to win the lottery, and what you should do if you ever hit the jackpot for that big lottery prize. Tim is a YouTuber and the host of a podcast called Lottery, Dreams and Fortune. While working in a gas station to put himself through college, Tim won the $28 million Powerball prize in 1999 and his life hasn't been the same since. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/Winning_the_Lottery_auphonic.mp3 Even if you're not a gambler, chances are at some point you bought a lottery ticket. Maybe you don't buy a ticket that often, but when the jackpot gets up to $100 million, $500 million or even a billion dollars, it gets tempting. As they say, “You gotta play to win.” There are two lottery games that seem to draw the most attention for their big jackpots – Powerball and Mega Millions. Since 2016, there have been six jackpots in America that surpassed $1 billion. Three in the past year alone. The largest lottery jackpot to date was the Powerball drawing on November 2, 2022. Someone bought a ticket at Joe's Service Center in Altadena, California, not far from Pasadena. It's not clear yet whether the winner has claimed the prize, but whoever it is, won over $2 billion before taxes. The second-biggest jackpot was also a Powerball ticket that was split three ways. On January 13th, 2016, winners came from California, Florida and Tennessee. The third biggest jackpot was a Mega Millions winner. This time from South Carolina. That person claimed the $1.5 billion jackpot. We don't know who it was, but they opted to take a one-time lump sum of $877 million before taxes. If you're like me, once you buy that ticket, and up until the drawing, your imagination can run wild. What would you do with all that money? It's just that sort of thinking that captures the attention of millions who buy those lottery tickets. Back in 1999, Tim Schultz was working at a gas station to put himself through college. But then fate happened. Tim sold himself a winning Powerball ticket. The prize was $28 million. That doesn't mean he took home all $28 million. While he can't say how much he did take home all winners have the option of taking a lump sum, which is usually a little more than half of the publicized jackpot. And then there are the taxes. No matter who wins the lottery in a given week, Uncle Sam always gets a cut. The idea that someone actually gets all that money is one of the biggest myths surrounding the lottery. Tim says there are other myths as well. Recently, President Biden signed into law the Respect for Marriage Act, requiring all US states and territories to recognize same-sex and interracial civil marriages. But that isn't all the new law does: it also fortifies religious liberty protections. As today's guests describe, it's perhaps because the Respect for Marriage Act does both things that it garnered bipartisan congressional support. In this episode, we're joined by Tim Schultz, president of the 1st Amendment Partnership, a DC advocacy organization that has worked for the last decade to advance religious freedom in state legislatures. Tim worked closely with leaders of diverse religious minority organizations—and national gay rights lobby organizations—to help foster the conditions needed to make this law and its commitment to Christian pluralism possible. Joining him is Tim Dalrymple, president and CEO of Christianity Today, one of the country's most influential evangelical publications. Tim Schultz is president of the First Amendment Partnership, a group whose core mission is to advocate for religious freedom for all faiths and rights of conscience.Schultz and others say this bill gives something to both gay rights groups and to religious conservatives. It's a compromise, a tradeoff. On the left, there are some activists who say it doesn't do enough, but by and large they say they want it to pass anyway. On the right, there are a lot of prominent religious conservatives who say it doesn't give enough to their side, but they also say that they still wouldn't support the legislation even if it did give their side more.Specifically, LGBTQ groups are looking for assurances that if the Supreme Court's ruling in 2015 that legalized same-sex marriage is somehow repealed in the future, marriage licenses issued since then would still be valid. And the bill also says that states where gay marriage is not recognized, gay couples would be protected under law and their marriages recognized if their license was issued in another state.Religious conservatives are looking for protections that will allow them and their institutions to adhere to the belief that marriage is between men and women, and to live out that belief in various settings. The text of this legislation as it pertains to religious freedom requires some interpretation, so that is where the debate gets complicated. Hopefully this conversation gives some insight from an advocate who says it does provide protections for religious conservatives.Read my article on the issue here.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
1) Democrats are LOSING and Lying on ALL of the Key Issues 1A) Biden to release an additional 10-15M barrels of oil and sell 40M barrels beyond the 180M already authorized in an effort to stop the rise in gas prices before the election. Typical political move rather than solving the real problem. 2) Democrats feel they may have "Peaked too early" in Congressional races. We agree and we'll explain further. 2A) Democrats are pouring money into a Rhode Island House race held by Democrats since 1991. When you are on the defensive, you are losing. 2B) Biden appeals to his base by promising legislation on abortion and rolling our student loan forgiveness web page. Legal challenges remain. 3) High profile Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is in a tie with his Republican challenger Tim Schultz. 4) Senate Polling: Vance +2 in Ohio Budd +6 in North Carolina as his lead expands Grassley only up +3 in Iowa as race is closer than expected Johnson +3 in Wisconsin and the lead appears to be growing Warnock and Walker appear headed to run off as no one is above 50% due to Libertarian candidate drawing 3-4% support 5) Black candidates and NAACP claim Republican adds about crime are racist. They are trying to distract on the central issue of crime and Americans are not buying what they are selling. All Americans are concerned about crime and the weak Democratic policies that got us here. Sen. Tubberville laughs off criticism. 5A) Police attacked in Philadelphia 5B) White House asked El Paso mayor NOT to declare State of Emergency over Border invasion. 6) Grassley - "FBI is aware of Biden Crime Family activity". What will happen? Our guess is nothing. 7) Russia hits Ukraine power stations with drones from Iran and levels civilian homes in escalation of war.

It wasn't long before the aircraft were able to fly to much greater altitudes and at greater speeds and get into an environment where humans just could not function correctly and humans became sort of the weak link or the limiting factor Anyone who watches military aviation knows that many believe the F-35 will be the last manned fighter aircraft produced by the United States. Remotely piloted aircraft have been prevalent in the battlespace for at least a decade. Many of the most routine tasks in-flight are accomplished by a machine with a pilot monitoring. But the discussion about the "man in the can" far predates any of the debates that confront us now. A BETTER PEACE welcomes Tim Schultz to discuss the limitations that were placed on aviation development by the insistence that there be a human in the cockpit. Author of The Problem with Pilots: How Physicians, Engineers, and Airpower Enthusiasts Redefined Flight, Schultz lauds the engineers and scientists along with flight surgeons for all of the advancements they were able to make in the aviation industry in spite of the human crew members on board. He joins Senior Editor JP Clark as they look back at the trade offs that have been made in aircraft design to accommodate the pilot. Dr. Timothy Schultz is the Associate Dean of Academics for Electives and Research, U.S. Naval War College and the author of The Problem with Pilots: How Physicians, Engineers, and Airpower Enthusiasts Redefined Flight. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) affects more than 12 million people in the United States, making it hard for them to breath or live a quality life. In the end stages, COPD can lead to death in a very unpleasant way. Although the risk is highest for people who smoke, COPD can also develop from second-hand smoke, working in jobs around dust or fumes, or even from a genetic trait. The goal is to catch it as early as possible.COPD continually progresses over time. What starts as an occasional cough can become more frequent, and simple things like taking the stairs or mowing the lawn can become too difficult. People with COPD often become more sedentary, which just makes the problem worse. Instead, people with COPD need to be up and active, exercise the heart and lungs and maximizing the capacity they have.Unfortunately, COPD cannot be cured, or even improved. It only progresses or stays the same. With professional pulmonary rehab, people with COPD can combine regimented exercise with lifestyle adjustments and the right medications to achieve a much better quality of life while keeping the disease at bay. People can keep the COPD from progressing and learn how to live an active and happy life.On this episode, Jan Pistole, RN, cardiopulmonary rehab coordinator, and Tim Schultz, RTT, director of respiratory care, join the Pulse to discuss the disease, how it affects the body, and how it can be managed.Learn more by visiting www.perrymemorial.org/podcast
Most people who have sleeping disorders, don't know it. Those that do know about it, usually only find out from their spouse, after a night of loud snoring or kicking their spouse one too many times.Nevertheless, conditions such as sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless leg syndrome can take a toll on a person's physical and mental well-being, and even put you in danger of car accidents. These conditions can go unnoticed because they cause you to wake up only momentarily during the night; even so, when that happens often enough, your body never gets the restful sleep it needs. Fortunately, these problems often can be solved easily. Respiratory therapists perform the important job of diagnosing sleep disorders and arranging treatment to improve the quality of sleep each night. As part of National Respiratory Care Week, Tim Schultz, Director of Respiratory Care, joins the Pulse to discuss sleeping disorders, how they are diagnosed and treated, and other roles respiratory therapists fill.
