Adam Borton is a professional toy inventor and designer held within high regard in the toy business. Among other things he invented and licensed to Mattel the smash hit skill and action game 'Flushin' Frenzy'. In this podcast interview we talk about Adam's journey in the toy business, and about his new initiative: Toy And Game School, which aims to help those interested in how to design & make toys to get ahead in the toy business. Our favourite part of this interview is the part near the start where Adam casually discusses his 'luck' in finding freelance work from talking to people at the UK toy fair. Some further probing reveals the fact that Adam literally spent days at this show walking around and talking to everybody he could on every exhibition stand at the show - this seemingly casual relentlessness is clearly a big part of Adam's success. There are of course many more insights offered by Adam in this compelling episode of our Playing At Business podcast.

About the speaker: Suhasini Paul is an eminent Toy Designer, alumni of NID, TEDx speaker, and Co-founder of Paulstudio India. She is a recipient of the "Designpreneur of the year" award from Shri Narendra Modi. She has designed over 300+ toys for her clients in India, Thailand, Italy, UK, USA, Turkey, and France, which are launched every year at various Toy Fairs across the globe. She also designs toys for Kinder Joy, Disney, Hape, and Chhota Bheem. How Play as Therapy Treats and Benefits Children and Some Adult? As adults, when we have emotional issues or mental health problems, we are often able to recognize that something is out of sorts; sometimes, we are even able to share our emotions with others. But with children – particularly those who are very young – this may not be possible. Some children may be unable to express themselves verbally, some may be shy, and some others may not be very comfortable with sharing their problems. It is then more effective to use play, a medium that comes very naturally to the child, to explore their issues. Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses play to help children deal with emotional and mental health issues. By using play as the medium, children are able to explore their feelings and share them with the therapist or the parents. In this form of therapy, a therapist encourages a child to explore life events that may have an effect on current circumstances, in a manner and place of the child's choosing, primarily through play but also through language. Play therapy, can help individuals communicate, explore repressed thoughts and emotions, address unresolved trauma, and experience personal growth and is widely viewed as an important, effective, and developmentally appropriate mental health treatment. #playastherapy #internationalwomensday2021 #IWD2021 #WomensHistoryMonth #shoutout #mentalhealthawareness --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sakalweareinthistogether/message
