It's XMAS time, and you know what that means! Holiday shenanigans, featuring Dorf, Mighty Max, Boglins.... it's so much insanity I'm having trouble explaining it.
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.Joining Tim this time is novelist Katy Brent, who's scouring 'the market' for any trace of Round The Twist, Ewoks, Global Hypercolor, Boglins, Out Of This World, Defenders Of The Earth and Garbage Pail Kids. Along the way we'll be discussing the ethical ramifications of a relationship founded on the Round The Twist theme, debating the plural of Those Spidery Octopus Things That Rolled Down Windows, revealing how to avoid getting caught literally Global Hypercolor-handed and estimating the street value of Corroded Charlie and his likely effect on the plot development of any further series of The Wire. You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. The National Toy Hall of Fame has inducted their finalist this year, but Jovial Jay and Shua pick their choices for the Enjoy Stufftopia Discontinued Toy Hall of Fame on Enjoy Stuff! We think there are some pretty cool toys that you don't see anymore that deserve their place in a museum. Join us as we pick our favorites for the Discontinued Toy Hall of Fame. News The Hall and Oates legal drama continues Marty Krofft, co-creator of some of our wacky childhood entertainment has died at 86 Waffles? Coffee Mate? Sure, why not? We found a cool spin on Back to the Future in a comic book from a few years ago Flies? Where? You'll just have to listen to find out. Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Shua has been enjoying a new novel by John Scalzi called Starter Villain. This one is also narrated by Will Wheaton and tells the story of an man who unexpectedly inherits his uncle's super villain company. Sound weird? Weird enough to check out for sure! Jovial Jay revisited the 1981 Ray Harryhausen classic Clash of the Titans. It was a groundbreaking movie in a lot of ways and a fun watch today. Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay looks back at the 2000 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger called The 6th Day. Arnold is faced with a clone of himself and all the discomfort that would present. Though it was very en Vogue to feature our nearest planetary neighbor back then, this one may not have entirely hit the mark. The story is a little spoon-fed, but entertaining nonetheless. Check out his article to see why. He has also been updating locations from Marvel TV and movies, including the Loki series. Play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Hawkeye series and more. Enjoy Toys! It's the time of year when the National Toy Museum picks their Hall of Fame finalists. Once again, some iconic toys have made it into the mix. They even picked one from the Forgotten Five; a group of toys that never seem to quite make it. But here at Enjoy Stuff we believe there are some toys that are no longer around, but also deserve their moment in the spotlight. So we have set up a Discontinued Toy Hall of Fame in our town of EnjoyStufftopia. JovialJay and Shua pick some of their favorite toys from their youth that they would love to see on display. Do you have a toy that would fit in our Hall of Fame? First person that emails me with the subject line, “It belongs in a museum” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

In this week's episode Mike, Rich and Steve are joined once again by Sean Malloy, host of I MUST BREAK THIS PODCAST - Sean joined us to record a review for the next episode but stuck around to help out reviewing this week's DTV Throwback... First up though is SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE a remake of the 1982 classic slasher. This one is directed by Danishka Esterhazy whose film The Banana Splits movie went down well around here! Next is RED SNOW , a horror comedy in which a young novelist is "visited" by an injured vampire. NIGHT RAIDERS is a political allegory dressed up as a Dystopian sci-fi movie and gave us unsettling flash-backs of The Flood! Our final feature review is STEALING CHAPLIN, a caper movie directed by Paul Tanter (Kill Ratio, Once Upon A Time at Christmas), and starring Simon Philips alongside his brother Doug as a pair of conmen in Las Vegas. Our Short Shot is BOGLINS RETURN - This is from the MASE BROTHERS who gave us the excellent Cyborg: Deadly Machine. We recommend you click the link to check out their other work! As mentioned above, Sean Malloy joins us to talk about our DTV Throwback, the remake of GET CARTER starring Sylvester Stallone. Please note that I mistakenly call Stallone's character "John" when in fact it's Jack! You can find Get Carter on IMDB TV, and is free with adverts. In this episode, I am excited to be introducing you to another neighbor and he is a force to be reckoned with. I am talking with a junior olympian swimmer, singer, traveler, and fisherman. We talk a lot about toys in this episode and you won’t want to miss the big announcement. You may have heard this neighbor perform at the 12 Oaks Summer Slam, Raleigh’s High Park Bar or Woody’s Sports Tavern and Grill. This is the first EVER episode where our neighbor sings for YOU. Chris Cofoni is the Founder and CEO of TriAction Toys. Chris is also a singer-songwriter. Chris was born in Westerly, Rhode Island. He was raised in an Italian family along with his older sister by his Mom and Dad. His family moved quite a bit during his childhood years. While attending high school, Chris discovered, after much nudging from his Mom, that he had a true musical talent. Last year Chris launched “Instraspection” which is his best album yet, recorded here in Raleigh. Chris is married with three children. 12 Oakers, we are so fortunate to have Chris as a neighbor and as an onsite performer, rockstar to boot. We look forward two Chris’ next performance, here in 12 Oaks. In This Episode: [04:14] Welcome Chris Cofoni our 19th “P” in the pod[cast]. He is the CEO of TriAction Toys and a Music Performer. [04:33] TriAction, which stands for “innovate, design, and play” introduces popular European design and quality toys to American audiences, with distribution, specifically focused on independent toy stores and specialty retailers. [06:52] Chris had major roles in high school community theatre and professional theatre with Off Broadway runs and formed a rock band named Lucid. [07:38] In 2000, Chris had his first major release “Born Backwards.” [09:32] He has been to 31 countries and the Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island is still the best beach he has ever walked on in the world. [10:17] He was a junior olympian for freestyle swimming when his family lived in California. [11:18] Some of the first people he made friends with after moving to Mystic, Connecticut approached him about singing with them in a rock band and they are still his best friends to this day. [13:01] He was singing in Italian, German, and French at the age of 15. [14:45] Chris was chosen to sing a solo out of the whole country with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. [16:10] He received a full talent scholarship to Hartt School of Music. [17:39] His father showed him that nothing was more important than a hard day’s work other than family because that is why you work. [19:02] There were times in his career when he took the next step and it was a very difficult decision but he made it based on something his grandfather told him. [20:40] His brand is a guy that never gives up. [23:44] His assertiveness and passion together got him a promotion to the A&R department at Lunar Records. The second record he worked on was with Norah Jones. [24:20] Of all the records he worked on, the one with Al Green had the biggest impact on Chris. [25:40] Working with Norah Jones, Chris has Gold and Platinum plagues. [27:13] Chris performs a small part of a song he wrote called Claustrophobia. [33:43] He transitioned to the toy industry because the record industry had a huge drop. [36:40] Chris started a new job at Melissa and Doug. [38:52] He moved on and became VP of Sales for Jazwares. They launched Fortnite toys. [41:07] Chris is doing licensed toys for Boglins now. He is manufacturing at this time. [43:19] Through his experience, he has learned that out of a weakness can come a strength. [45:13] After several years, he bumped into Daniela literally in Time Square on Valentine’s Day. [47:52] Chris loves to fish. He was in a Bass Club with his grandfather. [49:48] Why did you choose North Carolina and 12 Oaks? [52:42] Chris recommends having fun and traveling in your 20’s and make sure you know who you are before you commit to a life with someone else. [54:59] What are you most proud of? [56:24] If you had a chance to redo something in life, what would you do differently and why? [58:31] The one thing Chris learned from all of his travels was not to judge. [60:23] What would you be known for? [61:07] Which actor would play Chris Cofoni? You may or may not remember Boglins, but these were a series of small puppets that came out in the 80s. These high-quality toys were created by people who worked for Jim Henson on things like Fraggle Rock, The Muppet Show, and The Dark Crystal. The Boglins were movie-quality and a unique toy for creative kids that were one step away from Jim Henson. Show notes: Boglins

The other day, I finally had a chance to sit down with Tony Workman, owner of the in Parkersburg, WV for our very first on-site interview. Listen in!! This is a transcript of the conversation, cleaned up for your reading pleasure! Rem: We’re here today with Tony Workman, owner and operator of the Classic Plastics Toy Store located in downtown Parkersburg, WV and progenitor of the Classic Plastics Toy and Comic Expo which is quickly approaching on March 4th and 5th at the Parkersburg Art Center. Tony, how are you doing? Tony: Pretty good. R: You ready for take two? T: Definitely! Both: *shared laughter* R: So I may or may not have screwed up the last recording, and I really won't know until I get it into the computer to find out. So we're going to do it again and I'm going to make Tony suffer through it because he's awesome like that! Tony, what got you started in selling toys? T: Pretty much my love of them. I've always had toys and I never really grew out of it, so I wanted to keep that going and so I turned a hobby into a business. R; You started off by having a shop in a local flea market, what drove you to make the jump to having a retail space? T: It came down to availability — with the flea market being [open] three days and me growing out of the space I was in. I kept getting a bigger and bigger space, and I just figured it was time to get a building. R: Gotchya. What kind of toys and other items do you carry? T: There is a little bit of everything. We started at the flea market with vintage used toys that people would bring in to us, and then when I moved here, I started getting into new toys from NECA and Funko — stuff like that. R: So do you have any primo stuff for the fine dining toy collector? T: Every now and then we'll get stuff from collectors that we'll bring in, like packages Ninja Turtles from the 80's or stuff from NECA that is really highly detailed or articulated. Stuff that might be pricier, but worth the money. R: I notice you also have vintage functional arcade machines. What inspired the decision to include those in your space? T: I always loved going to the arcade when I was a kid. There was a movie theater that my parents would take my brothers and I to; and before every movie, we would sit there and play arcade games until it was time to go in and watch it. I've watched them all shut down all over the place, and I just wanted to try and bring that back. R: Gotchya. Do you host any special extended hour events like arcade or Collectible Card Game tournaments? T: We do with the arcade games. We have free arcade day once a month that we try to do toward the end of the month. It's what it sounds like: just come in and play free arcades all day. () R: Awesome! So, as I said, you are the progenitor of the Classic Plastics Toy and Comic Expo coming up again March 4th and 5th. This will be the fourth year you’ve hosted the CPT&CE, the third year it will be taking place at the Parkersburg Art Center. What sparked the truly daunting task of organizing an expo? T: My buddy, Todd Wines works for The Red Cross and they were looking for a fundraiser that would be in different age groups with different types of people that they don't normally get any kind of support from, so he came to me and asked "Do you want to do a toy and comics expo?" – with him being a huge comic nerd - and of course, I said yes. *laughter* R: Is it just you pulling the strings, or do you have a crew helping to get all the gears moving? T: For the most part, it's just me. Todd does help when he can, but with his job being in disaster relief, it's just a matter of if there's going to be a flood or something. So if that happens, he really has to focus on that which leaves me to be the only one. But I do have employees that I can pay to help me out as well. R: This year you’re featuring nearly 100 vendors and guests. How well has the attendance grown over the past four years? T: The first year was in a church on South Side [Parkersburg], and it had 300 people. Last year - our 3rd year - we had 1200 people. We're hoping to get over 2000 people with it being the first two-day show, but it is just a kind of wait-and-see. R: And as you said, this is the first multi-day event. Why was the decision made to extend the expo? T: Last year there were so many people. The Art Center is a pretty decent-sized building, but there were so many people on the floor that it was hard to get through the aisles and see all the inventory and enjoy the show as much as people wanted. So we thought spreading it out over the two days would give people the opportunity to choose when and what day they wanted to come. R: Awesome! Who can we expect to see this year, then? T: This year we have Steve Cardenas, the second red ranger from Power Rangers — Rocky, the red ranger if anyone watches the show. Along with Tim Clark, an 80's toy designer. He did stuff like Boglins and Sectaurs. He worked a little bit on Fraggle Rock. And then the local legend, Jordan Patton is back again this year from SyFy's Face Off and does the show Deadnecks. R: We have the expo, and then we have some external events that are happening as well. What are some of the events that are happening at the expo and outside of it that will really make for the first weekend of March to be a truly grand adventure for anyone coming to downtown Parkersburg? T: Starting with the outside stuff first: It's being done by Downtown PKB again. They did an event last year that they got really good reception from - Savor Saturday - that they're going to be doing again this year. It's going to include 12 different restaurants [in the downtown area] that you can walk around and get dollar samples from. So if you haven't eaten at any of the downtown restaurants, it gives you a really good chance to try out some of what's on their menu. There's also going to be this guy, - I don't even know his name - he came into the store one time and said "You let me into the show one day for free, and I'll go around all the PokeStops downtown and put lures on them." So that is going to be at noon — the same time as people are walking around for Savory Saturday. You can take advantage of a whole bunch of lures and sample a whole bunch of restaurants down here. Inside, the Vienna Library is doing events like Lego Building and Story Time on Sunday. J&M Bookstore on South Side is doing board games and tabletop events both Saturday and Sunday; along with Rare Drops from Huntington doing video game tournaments. Both of these will be in the basement of the Art Center. Then there will be a cosplay contest and I'm probably forgetting something else. *laughter* R: *laughter* It is hard to keep track of all of it, isn't it? T: It is! R: So finally, do you have anything you’d like to add that I may have forgotten to cover? T: I can't remember if it was mentioned, but proceeds to the show go towards Downtown PKB and the Arts Center — they'll be split in half. I do not get any profit from this. This is something that is done for the community and as a promotion for my store. In the past, it was done for the Red Cross, but we changed to Downtown PKB this year. So if you guys are really wanting to support your local area and your local businesses, coming to the expo is going to be really important. Rem: Awesome! You can join us in the fun at the Classic Plastics Toy & Comic Expo, March 4th and 5th at the Parkersburg Art Center, located at 725 Market Street in Parkersburg West Virginia. Admission is $5 per person each day, or $8 for a two-day pass. Children 10 and under are free with paid adult admission. All proceeds go to the and . More information about the expo can be found at , link in the notes; or you can search on Facebook for real-time updates on the event. Don’t forget to come down to the as well – , located at 406 Market Street in Parkersburg, West Virginia – and give Tony all the love and support you can! Thanks again, Tony, for having me down and wasting time with me! I really appreciate it! Tony: Thanks for having me! On this week's sort-of-a-bit Thanksgiving episode, the gang discusses glang words for naughty bits and some of them are really rank. Gavin gets his words in on Watch Dogs 2, the gang debates Dishonored 2, and there's a lot of chat about what Pokemon Sun/Moon does right/wrong. Also Boglins and fleshlights... the winner's choice!
The wait is over! Sadly, episode 42 won't answer the questions of life infinity and everything but it will tell you what happens when the 1980's gives birth to home video and ushers in a period of prolifically in horror. This week we tackle the 1982 classic head trip; Basketcase. Two brothers that are joined at the hip have a murderous agenda that will take place on the mean streets of New York City. Also, we answer the question of what happened to all those Boglins. For more episodes check out splatterpictures.net

From Wikipedia:"Boglins were a series of toy puppets distributed by Mattel. They were created by Tim Clarke, Maureen Trotto, and Larry Mass, and licensed by Seven Towns. The original run of Boglins was released in 1987, coinciding with a "creatures" craze that included Ghoulies, Critters, and Gremlins. Boglins were goblin-themed hand puppets made of flexible rubber and could be manipulated to represent speech and facial expressions."Games Played Last Week:01:26 -The Crew: The Quest for Planet Nine (Thomas Sing, KOSMOS, 2019)03:38 -Cartographers: A Roll Player Game (Jordy Adan, Thunderworks Games, 2019)05:27 -Res Arcana (Thomas Lehmann, Sand Castle Games, 2019)08:41 -Tribes of the Wind (Joachim Thôme, La Boîte de Jeu, 2022)10:20 -Steam Up: A Feast of Dim Sum (Pauline Kong, Haymen Lee, and Marie Wong, Hot Banana Games, 2023)13:20 -Switch & Signal (David Thompson, KOSMOS, 2020)16:06 -SEAL Team Flix (Pete Ruth & Mark Thomas, WizKids, 2018)18:30 -Star Fighters: Rapid Fire (Michael Dunsmore and Jordan Nichols, Alley Cat Games, 2023)22:10 -For Northwood!
