Cop Gives Waitress Million Dollar Tip was the oh-so specific original title of Andrew Bergman's rom-com, "It Could Happen to You." Released in the thick of summer back in 1994, this sweet little flick didn't stand a chance against The Mask and True Lies. But now, decades later, does this Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda matchup deserve a second chance at love? Could you resist Stanley Tucci in a bath towel? And would Rosie Perez have gotten some award love if this had been a December release? The Old Roommates revisit all these "what ifs" through their middle-aged lens. Most people ask the question,'Why do people lie in relationships?" Many times there is a rhyme and reason to this that is not necessarily justifiable, but more instinctive based on certain routine practices. Men usually lie to women about three fundamental things as far as the reasoning, number one is patronage, number two is to impress, and number three is to avoid responsibilityWomen usually apply to protect someone else's feelings, about characteristics such as age, weight, and the number of people they have slept with, and thirdly to avoid conflict or confrontation, and lastly about their true feelings. funda. Fundamentally, both men and women lie about certain things that they may be embarrassed by or something that would make them seem vulnerable. In episode we are going to discuss the fundamentals and the reason why people lie in relationships.

Laci and Matt go through True Lies (1994), James Cameron's "normal" movie. The most expensive movie ever made at the time of its production. It could've just been a straightforward spy thriller, but instead Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to put in every action movie idea they'd ever had. And the results are glorious. Well, okay, the movie goes on for one act too long, and Jamie Lee Curtis steals the show and is then shown the door. Episode 193: Ginger Gonzaga Interview   This is the After Show for Yellow, featuring Andrew's conversation with writer and actor Ginger Gonzaga. Many listeners know Ginger from her roles in Marvel's She-Hulk, CBS's True Lies, Showtime's Kidding, I'm Dying Up Here, HBO's Togetherness, and Room 104. But in this episode, the spotlight shifts to her as a creator as well as a performer.   Andrew and Ginger talk about coming up in the heavily male improv scene of the early 2000s, the delicate (and sometimes not-so-delicate) politics of improvising in auditions and on set, and how her background in high school speech and debate shaped her confidence as a storyteller. She also shares a wild story about pitching a show centered on mental health at a time when that topic wasn't exactly trending in development meetings or even in the national conversation.   It's candid, funny, and full of insight about carving out space as a performer and writer. Most of all, it makes clear just how much Yellow means to her.

That's right, it's High Fidelity (2000)! It's a great music movie. It's an even greater romantic comedy. In fact, it's kind of an anti-romantic comedy, because the lesson in the end is: The most romantic thing in life is being a grown-up.  Plus: Our top-five songs we want played at our funerals, AND fierce debate about whether DJs are musicians and if a singer's vocal chords count as an instrument. Episode 192: Yellow Written by Ginger Gonzaga This month's live episode features Yellow, a pilot written by Ginger Gonzaga. Most people know Ginger from her work in front of the camera—she's appeared in Marvel's She-Hulk, CBS's True Lies, Showtime's Kidding, I'm Dying Up Here, HBO's Togetherness, and Room 104. Yellow showcases her voice as a writer. After being arrested, following a very public hypomanic episode Pepper, A witty visual artist is court ordered to live in a halfway house with an ensemble of lovable misfits that she deems crazier than herself. This soulful and at times surreal dramedy follows pepper as she navigates her artistic career. The tone moves fluidly between grounded emotion and offbeat humor, building a layered ensemble piece that feels both personal and expansive. Ginger leads the cast in the live performance, surrounded by an incredible group of actors including Luke Tennie (Shrinking), Burl Moseley (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Kyle Bornheimer (St. Denis Medical), Lauren Potter (Glee), Mel Rodriguez (The Residence, Last Man on Earth), Lucy Parks Urbano (actor/playwright), Bryan Safi (Throwing Shade), Beth Dover (Orange Is the New Black, Nobody Wants This), Jessica Sula (Split, Michael), with stage direction by Andrew Reich. Video of the live table read is available exclusively to Maximum Fun members. The Cinematography Podcast Episode 344: Russell Carpenter When cinematographer Russell Carpenter began working on Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash concurrently, he knew stepping into the world of Pandora would be a much different production environment. Carpenter and director Jim Cameron had previously collaborated on True Lies and Titanic, which won him the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. As the cinematographer, Carpenter's primary concern was ensuring the lighting on live, motion-captured actors blended seamlessly with a CGI-generated universe. Audiences instinctively understand the physics of sunlight filtering through a forest or the way light refracts underwater. To maintain an emotional connection to the story, Cameron insisted that every frame feel like it was in the real world of Pandora. The Avatar sequels were built in layers, with digital artists building the environment based on the script. Rough versions of the scenes and the blocking for the actors were plotted out, and then they were ready for the motion capture with the actors. Carpenter worked closely with production designers to determine how light should "feel" in these virtual spaces. Because the background was digital, the camera movement and lighting could be tested with instant feedback. If a virtual camera moved through a forest, the real-world lighting on the actor could be tested to react to every digital leaf and shadow in real-time. For over a year, Carpenter lived in two worlds: the virtual and the physical. "I had to keep lighting consistent in the CGI world while translating what Jim was doing on the capture stage," Carpenter says. "In the world of motion capture, things have to match to the half-second. If the camera travels a specific distance at a specific speed, the actor has to be exactly there. It's painstaking." A major breakthrough for the sequels was the use of programmable LED systems. Working with computer programmers and moving lights, Carpenter's team devised a way to shift intricate lighting setups instantly. This allowed for more complex visual storytelling, such as backlit sequences and the dappled, moving light of the Pandoran jungles. For Avatar: Fire and Ash, Cameron pushed for a more "organic" look, requesting the digital world mimic the flaws of physical film cameras. “Certain artifacts were introduced into Fire and Ash that we didn't quite have on Way of Water,” Carpenter explains, “such as lens flares and the appearance of water running off the front plate of a camera lens.” The team tested shooting lens flares, and a Weta programmer built it into the CGI world. To simulate the "Ash People" shooting flaming arrows, Carpenter's team used a grid of overhead LEDs programmed to "zip" past the actors' heads at arrow-speed, creating a realistic flicker of firelight on their faces Despite the technical hurdles, Carpenter found that the core of his craft—sculpting light—remained the same, even if the toolkit had changed. He admits the transition isn't for everyone. “I would say to any cinematographer who ventures into this territory, there's a learning curve where you definitely feel like a stranger in a strange land,” he says. “You realize that, especially in terms of live action, your percentage of the pie is less—but your impact on the final vision remains vital.” You can see Avatar: Fire and Ash in a variety of formats in theaters everywhere. The tyranny of local radio. Do you also have an inexplicable retention for "parody versions of popular songs" that people made up? My moral quandry about "AI-sh Robert Duvall in a True Lies 2." Misfits will probably be stolen from me. (I don't have authorship over the actual event, you see.) There's incompetence afoot, from a certain Mexican corporate food chain. I owe god money, and I'm dodging Him. The Charlie Sheen documentary (one more quick point), then I complain about The Rookie and Collateral, because I've run out of new movies to complain about. They're going to reboot Baywatch, and it will probably total nightmare fuel. (Instead of the jack off fuel that it was originally intended for

Virus was released in January 1999, directed by John Bruno — a longtime visual effects artist who worked on The Abyss, True Lies, and Terminator 2.The movie follows a salvage crew led by Captain Everton (Donald Sutherland) and Chief Engineer Kelly Foster (Jamie Lee Curtis). While stranded at sea during a typhoon, they discover a seemingly abandoned Russian research vessel. But as they soon learn, the ship isn't empty — it's been taken over by an alien energy force transmitted through space that turns machinery and human flesh into horrific hybrid cyborgs. From there, it's a battle for survival as the crew tries to destroy the alien intelligence before becoming part of its mechanical army. It's basically The Thing meets Terminator — set on a ghost ship.If you are new to the podcast then please consider following us on the platform that you love, we can be found most anywhere that you listen to your favorite podcasts. From Gym Legend To Global Icon: Ranking Schwarzenegger's Legacy

Send us a textWhat makes an icon endure: muscle, myth, or mindset? We gather a lively panel to track Arnold Schwarzenegger's improbable climb from Austrian bodybuilder to global action star to California governor—and why that exact trajectory may never be possible again. We start by ranking his “big three” careers and quickly find ourselves weighing influence against output: Mr. Olympia titles that mainstreamed bodybuilding, a blockbuster run that minted catchphrases for generations, and a centrist political chapter that defied expectations in a polarized state. From there, we dive into the movies that made—and sometimes remade—his image. Terminator 2 gets the love for the rare sequel that outshines the original, while Predator remains a master class in squad tension and physical stakes. We celebrate curveballs like True Lies and Last Action Hero for their humor and self-awareness, and revisit Conan's mythic brawn, cheesy effects and all. We also call out the misses: Mr. Freeze's ice puns that froze a franchise in place and late-era misfits that couldn't find the right tone for Arnold's presence.Could anyone repeat his arc today? We unpack why the 80s appetite for mass and spectacle has given way to leaner aesthetics, fragmented fame, and a different model of toughness. The debate turns to best role versus biggest impact—Terminator's “I'll be back” looms large—but True Lies emerges as a showcase for timing and warmth. We cap it with the eternal rivalry: Arnold or Stallone for 80s–90s dominance. Some of us value Rocky's cultural myth, others point to Arnold's broader range and global recognition. Either way, the conversation is rich with film history, gym lore, and the audacity it takes to reinvent yourself—again and again.Enjoyed the ride?
