Amos Poe is an American New York City-based director and screenwriter, described by The New York Times as a "pioneering indie filmmaker". Amos Poe is one of the first punk filmmakers and his film The Blank Generation[2] (1976)—co-directed with Ivan Král— is one of the earliest punk films. The film features performances by Richard Hell, Talking Heads, Television, Patti Smith, and Wayne County. Rolling Stone named it number 6 on its list of 25 Greatest Punk Rock Movies of All Time.[3] He is also associated with the birth of No Wave Cinema due to films such as The Foreigner (1978), featuring Eric Mitchell, Debbie Harry, Anya Phillips; and Subway Riders (1981),[4] starring Susan Tyrrell, Robbie Coltrane, and Cookie Mueller.[5] During this time he was also the director of the public-access television cable TV show TV Party hosted by Glenn O'Brien and Chris Stein. In 1982, Black Flag found themselves in the unlikely position of having what seemed like a potential "hit record." A satirical jab at the couch potato schlubs complete with peppy handclaps insisted on by their handlers, "TV Party" was released by SST and Unicorn Records, a division of the major label imprint MCA, in 1982. Backed with "I've Got To Run" and "My Rules," the EP finds Black Flag at the height of its powers, led by the snarling Henry Rollins. On this episode of The Spindle, Marc and John drop the needle and reflect on this classic punk standard—and reflect on the "punk episode" of Quincy. About The Spindle: The 7-inch record isn't just a format—it's an art form. On each episode of The Spindle podcast, music writer Marc Masters (Pitchfork, The Wire, Bandcamp) and music historian (and music maker) John Howard dive into a great 7-inch, dissecting its background, impact, and the reasons why it stands out as a small plastic piece of music history. What's your favorite 7″? "Reverent" isn't exactly a word that you usually associate with Only Three lads. But that's the best word to describe this week's episode, as we pay tribute to some of the dearly departed heroes of the O3L era. They may be gone...but they will never be forgotten.   We talk a lot about James Calvin Wilsey. It's a name you may not recognize, but we guarantee you've heard him play guitar. Jimmy started his professional career as the bassist in San Francisco punk legends The Avengers before joining forces in Silvertone with Chris Isaak. Yeah, that's Jimmy who wrote and played the haunting lead guitar lines in "Wicked Game."   Jimmy's life, career and tragic death are chronicled in Wicked Game: The True Story of Guitarist James Calvin Wilsey, penned by our Third Lad this week, the esteemed Michael Goldberg. Michael has been a respected and renowned music journalist since the '70s, serving as Senior Writer for Rolling Stone magazine for a decade, as well as writing for Creem, NME, Musician, and other notable music publications. In 1994, he founded the first online music magazine, Addicted to Noise, which garnered him a spot on Newsweek's 1995 list of the "50 People Who Matter Most on the Internet."   For more information on Wicked Game, visit https://hozacrecords.com. A portion of the proceeds go to Jimmy Wilsey's teenage son Waylon.   Also, on this week's O3L Spotlight, we feature music by TV Party! If you think you know something about classic TV then you need to meet Billy Ingram. I, myself, consider myself a classic TV buff but I quickly found out that I am a child in his world! Billy created a website called TVParty.com that I used to check out in the late 90's. This website began in 1994 when the internet was in its infancy. Billy says, “The TV is the one constant that brings us all together especially when there was only 3 netowrks to watch”. Billy was our guest this Sunday as we explored all the crazy details of Hollywood deaths that most of us never knew. Make sure you listen to this episode! Billy tells us the strange facts surrounding the deaths of stars like Bob Crane, Carol Wayne and Paul Lynde to name a few. It is facinating to hear about the last few years of Paul Lynde's life and how he was on a downward spiral with his drinking. It is truly a behind-the-scenes look at these stars and how their lives were cut short. Also, Billy says he may give us a few DVD sets to give away on our next Sunday show which will feature one of our famous TRIVIA GAME SHOW episodes.
