In this week's newest episode of Paris History Avec a Hemingway on La Vie Creative podcast, we go into Part 4 in the series of the Mona Lisa. The birth of one of the most recognized women in the world, the Mona Lisa began over five hundred years ago. In the five centuries since the painting began, she has found her way into the headlines, especially after her kidnapping in 1911. On January 28, 2024, she hit the international news once again. Two activists entered the Louvre with pumpkin soup in a coffee thermos and pushed through the mayhem of the Salle des États with everyone else and then pushed under the stanchions and the next thing we knew she was covered in soup. The two women shouted “What's more important? Art or the right to a healthy & sustainable diet?” Protesting against the lack of healthy food at a time when the farmers are also standing up and using their tractors to block the roads of France. The attacks on art have been an ongoing issue for years now and rarely make the news anymore until they target La Joconde. With a museum filled with over 35,00 pieces of art, the Mona Lisa is the easiest target when one wants to make a point, garner attention, and make the front page. At least she is heavily protected behind bulletproof glass into a cement wall and very little can harm her. In 1963, 49 years after she visited Italy and returned to the Louvre she left once again, this time to Washinton DC, and New York at the request of Jackie Kennedy. Upon her return to France, she stayed output until 1974 when President Pompidou agreed she take a vacation to Tokyo in return for a large “donation” to France. On her way home she was hijacked by the Russians and put on display for a few weeks. Today she is back in the Louvre, never to leave France again. Malaria champions meet in Washington D.C. for the UN Foundation's 'United to Beat Malaria' Leadership Summit. Transcript In the centre of Washinton DC – just a five-minute walk from the White House – is a campaign at the forefront of malaria advocacy. The UN Foundation's ‘United to Beat Malaria' campaign connects Americans with the global movement to end malaria. Every year, it briefs advocates from across the country on the big challenges facing malaria. Drug and insecticide resistance. Limited funding. The need for resilient healthcare systems. Then, those advocates meet with Members of Congress. Last month, 90 advocates held over 140 meetings with congressional offices to make two important asks: Support a $2bn pledge for The Global Fund, an international resource which funds over 60% of malaria control programmes; and commit more than $820 million to The President's Malaria Initiative, a US-led programme working with over 25 endemic countries. These advocates, known as ‘champions' are diverse and committed. We meet them next time in the Extended episode of the Johns Hopkins Malaria Minute. Source United to Beat Malaria Champions Return to Washington DC for Annual Leadership Summit About The Podcast The Johns Hopkins Malaria Minute podcast is produced by the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute to highlight impactful malaria research and to share it with the global community.

Steve Ressler is an entrepreneur and an experienced investor and advisor in the Search Fund space. He's originally from Ohio and presently based in Washinton DC. Steve was attracted to the Search Fund model because it had similarities to private equity, where you buy great businesses or invest in one at a fair price, but also having the responsibility of an entrepreneur, where you reform and manage a business to reach new heights. Steve is now backing over 30 searchers and has followed on into over 30 individual acquisitions in the small business space in America. In this episode, I had an interesting conversation with Steve. Having heard of Steve's experience and background, I used this opportunity to ask him a lot about the investor's perspective; what do investors look for in a good Searcher? What do Searchers typically learn during their Search Phase and into their operation phase? I gleaned some insights from his experience that can help anyone that is thinking about coming to Search and the ways in which they can test whether or not it might be a good fit for them. Show Notes: 02:46 – Steve talks about his history from being a government employee to being involved in startups, and how he got into the Search space. 05:41 – Steve talks about his experience in dealing with other co-investors in the Search space, and having invested in different kind of businesses such as first-generation businesses and talks about the difference between private equity and the Search Fund model. 11:48 – Steve shares his thought about typical things that he is looking for a Searcher in which he could determine whether or not that person is going to have a successful time being a Searcher 15:52 – Steve talks about what Searchers learn during the Search Phase and operation phase, and what are his insights and experience from these phases in the search fund procedures. 29:37 – Steve talks about the skill set that a Searcher must-have, and he shares his tips for new emerging markets that would make sure they are on the right path for growth. Enjoy this 63rd episode of The Shift as host Doug McKenty discusses the state of these turbulent times with Steve Poikonen of Slow News Day. Steve was in Washinton DC the week of January 3rd initially to cover Judge Baraitser's final decision concerning the extradition case of Julian Assange. Unbeknownst to him, that Wednesday would become one of the most controversial in American history as Trump supporters from all over the country amassed to rally in support of the President. The rally, of course, resulted in the storming of the Capitol Building which caused many Congresspeople to flee for safety and disrupted the planned certification of electoral college votes. Choosing to stay an extra day to cover the event, Steve found himself an eyewitness to these unprecedented events. Stay tuned for this exciting conversation that covers the gamut of the current political crisis from the perspective of this independent journalist, free Assange activist, and eyewitness to last week's mayhem in Washington DC. Randy Fiser: The Big Cheese at ASID Today in The Lounge we have a SPECIAL guest, CEO of ASID aka The Big Cheese: Randy Fiser. He might not have an interior design background and he isn't an interior designer but Randy is definitely one of the most influential people in the industry. As always please reach out to us as Nick LOVES to hear from you guys, tell us what you're doing, what you'd like to hear on the show and ask us questions if you need advice! Secondly, don't forget to check out Porcelanosa's Life Style Magazine either online or order it by mail because guess what, it's FREE. They feature tons of great commercial/hospitality designers and images. Their 3D rendering service is also FREE so you utilize it guys! Remodel a kitchen or bathroom for your clients. Learn more about it here. Getting to Know Randy Randy was born in Southern California and lived there until he was 11 when he moved to Arizona and finished high school. Later, he went to Georgia for grad school and eventually moved to Washinton DC where he has been ever since. He received his masters in Counseling and Human Development as well as an MBA. Ever since he was little Randy knew he wanted to be in business and work with people to make an impact and leave the world a better place. So, he invested his time in consulting and large scale organizational transformation work. Later Randy's managing and consulting work were mission driven and soon he transitioned to non-profit work on affordable housing development and education reform. He was a client of Brad Pitt's to help rebuild New Orleans as well. Randy's favorite place to vacation is Bali. As long as there is an adventure and he can hike, bike, be active and go to the beach, he's there. Good food is, of course, important too. Randy lives in a small 700 square foot apartment in DC, space isn't important to him as he's never home! BUT it is very well designed and FUNCTIONAL. Canadian designers built the apartments using Universal's Design Principles so anyone could live in it, such as someone in a wheel chair or someone not in a wheelchair. This is why Randy believes design matters, it took him a year to notice and think about the wide-range functionality in his apartment because it was so well designed. Design can be both beautiful and functional to the point where you don't notice or think about! If you ask Randy, "beer, wine or a cocktail?"... it's wine AND a cocktail. A Day in the Life Well, it's never a typical day in the life of Randy but usually, he's on the road. He meets with members of ASID, attends chapter events, and talks with manufacturers who want to bring their product in front of members. He meets with other associations that represent the surrounding areas of design and construction. He meets with government officials at the state and federal levels. He meets with clients who run companies, healthcare facilities, or who are homeowners. He talks about WHAT designers do and WHY design matters. Design impacts life. Randy informs us that we're spending 93% of our time indoors now!! So human interaction with the spaces we spend the most time in defines us as human beings and affect our health. Randy does a lot of public speaking on these topics and loves it because it is what he is passionate about. Randy thinks ASID needs to continue pushing this message and furthermore elevate it with case-studies. It's one thing to tell people that design impacts lives but it's another thing to prove it. One interesting thing Randy brings up is how we design spaces for people but we never take pictures of the spaces with people in them! Aesthetic is defining design but in reality, design is for functionality and for people, every space has a purpose. If you let beauty take over you dilute what design is all about! In every image of ASID's new Head Quarters, they have people in it, the goal is to show design intent by putting people within the space who are using it. It's like clothing,

Multiple sources confirm that about 70 arrest warrants will be served on power brokers and politicians in Washinton DC, Virginia and New York this week shortly after Jeff Sessions is confirmed as US Attorney General. Among those to be arrested are Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer, Richard Blumenthal and Hillary Clintonâ??s vice-president pick Tim Kaine, Pentagon sources say. These arrests will follow 474 arrests that took place in California last week as a pedophile ring that served Hollywood and West Coast elites was taken down. It is interesting to note the California arrests were only reported by local news outlets and completely ignored by the big corporate networks. http://abc13.com/news/474-arrested-in-california-human-trafficking-stings/1734315/ Former US President Bill Clinton is also reported to be â??singing like a canaryâ?? and has provided evidence that will lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton and many others, Pentagon sources say. Here is what a Pentagon source had to say on the matter â??Hillary is toast as Obama refused to pardon, Bill snitched on her, and her prosecution has been ordered by Trump.â?? There are credible tabloid news reports that Hillary was caught trying to flee to Bahrain and stopped. http://www.globemagazine.com/content/clinton-stopped-her-tracks There are also preliminary reports saying a raid was made on Jeffrey Epsteinsâ?? Caribbean sex slave Island and that 32 kids were freed and 8 traffickers were arrested. https://twitter.com/glennbeck/status/828344311016075264 There is also going to be a more hidden and brutal power struggle going on in the secret agencies as â??CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel was chosen to rendition to black sites and torture cabal, drug cartel and ISIS guys,â?? a Pentagon source says. There is also, as is often the case, high level intrigue and skullduggery going inside the Vatican. This has been widely reported by the corporate media in the form of news that Pope Francis fired Grand Master Mathew Festing of the Knights of Malta in a â??dispute over condoms.â?? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/25/knights-malta-head-resigns-dispute-vatican-spokesperson/ If you look at the membership list of the Knights of Malta, https://www.biblebelievers.org.au/kmlst1.htm it reads like a whoâ??s who of the globalist elite full of names like Rockefeller, Bush, Rothschild etc. so you can tell that this is about more than just â??condoms.â?? In fact, according to sources in the Vatican Secret Service, what really happened was that the Knights of Maltaâ??s top brass were caught (ã??ã??ã??ã??æ??æ??)
Whether your sales up or down, there has to be a reason. So what’s behind the participation slump among students who don’t qualify for free or reduced-priced meals? Some school nutrition professionals say it’s a clear case of cause and effect: paying kids don’t like the new menus, so they’re not buying. But a recent report from the Food Resource and Action Center describes a much more complex set of circumstances. So does the experience of one well-to-do Kansas high school, where competitive foods are losing ground to the healthier, reimbursable “deal meal.” This program has been sponsored by The Tabard Inn. located in Washinton DC. “The vast majority of schools are offering competitive foods. USDA research says that competitive foods drive students away from the school meals program. They create stigma, especially for middle and high school students, where it’s not necessarily the cool thing to be participating in the school meals program” –Jessie Hewins on Inside School Food “We were anticipating a drop in our a la carte sales, just like all the other schools implementing Smart Snacks. However, our reimbursable meals are up. Part of that is due to the fact that we’ve turned everything inside of the serving area into a potential reimbursable meal. We’re calling it a ‘meal deal.'” “We encourage the high schools kids to take a whole apple or banana with them, to eat in study hall or before practice, and a lot of them are doing that. It’s the change we want to see. The more popular students are being role models in this, and that’s helping a lot.” –Amy Droegemeier on Inside School Food

Programledare: Anneli Dufva Producent: Marie Liljedahl
Max Rameau is an organizer of “Take Back the Land”. The organization is based in Florida where it started in Miami in the fall of 2006 and has since emerged as a national movement with affiliates in Atlanta, NYC, Boston, New Orleans, Washinton DC, Chicago, Madison, New Orleans, Toledo, Sacramento and Portland (Right to Survive). Take Back the Land holds the position that housing is a Human Right. At this time there are as many vacant homes as homeless families. Because this housing is available we should move homeless people into these unoccupied homes. But the real objective of building homes is not to house people but is to make a profit. So houses stay empty and people stay homeless. Take Back the Land identifies government owned homes that have been foreclosed and, without permission from banks or government, moves homeless people into them. Take Back the Land also supports other local groups who value humans over corporations in housing. They call themselves a “translocal movement”—facilitating the processes of action in alignment with their values by taking pre-existing and newly formed organizations and connecting them with each other.Take Back the Land believes the law should be set up to protect human beings who need homes first and foremost. Rameau also believes the Movement must be led by the people who are most affected or they’ll fail. He says shanty towns and tent cities are popping up in many places in the US and he wants to be sure they are led by the people most affected. In many cases these are low income women. We need to redesign housing and human rights needs and fight laws that support the owners along with learning from homeless people’s struggles in other countries as well.Interview conducted in August, 2010.
