The podcast centers on the value of Emotional Intelligence, which is both a mindset and an approach to life that regards problems as situations that help you learn and grow; it is a way of being and doing in the world that enables you to develop and sustain a positive relationship with yourself and others, at home, at work, and everywhere in between. Coupled with mental fitness, emotional intelligence is an essential component of Positive Intelligence (PQ) that enables you to leverage your power to communicate well, make good decisions that align with your values, and create a positive environment wherever you are. In a word, Positive Intelligence is the key element that creates your path to success. Episodes are theme-oriented and correspond to a letter of the alphabet, like this: A = Awareness, Acceptance, and Action; B= Bold and Brave (with a little vulnerability thrown in), and so on. Within each series I conduct an interview with a PQ coach. POSITIVE INTELLIGENCE® and ©PQ are trademarks of Positive Intelligence, LLC.

I'd love to hear from you!Have you ever recognized a pattern in yourself that you desperately wanted to change, yet found yourself repeating the same behaviors over and over? The disconnect between awareness and transformation is where many personal development journeys stall. In this profound conversation with business consultant Martijn Lemmens, we dive deep into the revolutionary methodology of Psyche-K, a powerful approach to reprogramming the subconscious mind. Martijn shares how our life scripts are largely written during our first seven years, creating patterns that might have served us as children but can become limiting as adults. What makes this episode particularly valuable is the practical four-step process Martijn outlines for creating lasting change: identifying your current state, clarifying what you truly want (not just what you don't want), performing a "balance" to reprogram limiting beliefs, and taking concrete action in the world. This framework bridges the gap between internal work and external results. We explore fascinating parallels between Psyche-K, neurolinguistic programming, and emotional intelligence—revealing how befriending our inner critics rather than fighting against them creates space for transformation. Martijn shares compelling client stories, including one woman who realized she needed to "put herself on her own pedestal" rather than elevating everyone around her.Perhaps most powerful is the realization that while we can't control external circumstances, we always have dominion over our inner world. "The whole world can be against me. My internal world can be beautiful as long as I believe in myself," Martijn observes. This shift in perception creates what feels like everyday miracles as new possibilities emerge.Whether you're a business leader seeking to overcome perfectionism, someone struggling with people-pleasing tendencies, or simply curious about the connection between subconscious programming and daily life, this conversation offers practical wisdom and transformative insights for creating lasting change.Martijn's Website: https://www.dewerff.net/en/Psych K: https://www.dewerff.net/en/psych-k/LinkedIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martijnlemmens/Martijn's Podcast: https://podfol.io/profile/martijn-lemmensSupport the showWant to learn how to build your EQ? I'd love to hear from you!Have you ever felt trapped by your own inability to say "no"? In this powerful conversation with boundaries coach Barb Nangle, we explore how setting healthy limits can transform your life from constant people-pleasing to genuine freedom.Barb shares her remarkable personal journey that began when she invited a homeless man to stay in her home during a snowstorm – a seemingly kind gesture that quickly spiraled into feeling trapped in her own space. This crisis point led her to discover 12-step recovery programs and the profound concept of "reparenting" herself. As she explains, many of us grew up in environments where dysfunction was normalized, leaving us without models for healthy boundaries. The conversation delves into practical strategies for developing an "inner loving parent" to counter the harsh inner critic most of us carry within. Barb introduces the transformative concept of "info, not ammo" – using self-knowledge as information for growth rather than ammunition for self-criticism. This shift from judgment to curiosity creates space for genuine healing and empowerment. What makes this episode particularly valuable is the honest examination of how uncomfortable boundary-setting can feel initially. Many people describe feeling like they might "die" when first establishing limits, especially if they've spent a lifetime in enmeshed relationships. Yet as Barb powerfully states, "Choose your difficult – do you want difficulties to last forever and get worse over time, or do you want to go through a very difficult time for a brief period and then have healing on the other side?"Whether you struggle with people-pleasing, feel responsible for everyone's happiness, or simply want more freedom in your relationships, this conversation offers practical wisdom for building the boundaries that will transform your life. I'd love to hear from you! From Inner Critic to Inner Ally: Enhancing Emotional Intelligence How do the words we use shape our emotions, beliefs, and behaviors? Join Ruth Lamberti , founding coach of Adult Prep, and me as we discuss the transformative power of language on our emotional and positive intelligence. We dive into the concept of the inner critic or "Judge," explaining how this negative voice can distort our self-perceptions and affect our everyday interactions. To develop our emotional intelligence, we cultivate the key skills of self-awareness and kindness, and we learn to maintain a positive internal dialogue to enhance emotional well-being and foster healthier relationships. And when it comes to our saboteurs, we are encouraged to acknowledge them--they're here and aren't going away anytime soon--but we can befriend them, thank them for the information they provide for us, and ignore the negative messages that can derail our serenity and take us down the rabbit hole of self-loathing and despair. In short, we provide practical strategies for managing our inner critic and cultivating empathy and compassion toward ourselves. Some other key takeaways from this episode include practicing respect for others and keeping kindness in the forefront of our minds. For example, Jami recounts how she was going to be late to a dance lesson and by making a simple phone call, her stress level diminished and her dance instructor appreciated the heads-up, all of which emphasizes the importance of clear communication and courtesy. Instead of allowing her "stickler" perfectionist take over, she accepted responsibility for being late and practiced a little self-forgiveness. After all, we are perfectly imperfectly humans! Speaking of dance, we explore the joy of dance as a powerful form of self-care! This episode is packed with actionable advice for anyone looking to improve their emotional intelligence and live a more intentional, value-based life. And it starts with the words we use—the way we talk to ourselves and the way we speak to others. I'd love to hear from you!Imagine a world where we all use our emotional, positive, and spiritual intelligences to create the life we would all like to live. In this episode of Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, I explore how understanding and integrating these three types of intelligence can help you become a happier person, a more effective leader, and a person who has so much good to contribute to the world. If you've been paying any attention to the trends in "intelligence" lately, you'll know that smarts and college degrees and such just aren't "all that" anymore. People who possess the big three, as I call them--EQ, PQ, and SQ--have demonstrated that they are better leaders, more resilient, and frankly, the kind of people that others want to be around. And guess what? We can *learn* these skills just as we would any other kind of intelligence. Sure, there is aptitude, but the truth of the matter is that if we want to become better people, we need to be self-aware, intuitive, and guided by the Source within us that is love, goodness, and compassion. Most, if not all people say that they want their lives to *mean* something. We seek connection, meaning, truth. Spiritual Intelligence gives us that.I also discuss the ten saboteurs that might be silently undermining your potential, from the harsh inner judge to the relentless people pleaser. Learn practical strategies to counter these negative forces by shifting to your brain's sage mode, where empathy, curiosity, and positive action reside, along with that still small voice that guides you to a path of wholeness, love, and self-compassion. As we examine the growing trend of people identifying as spiritual but not religious, you'll see how spiritual intelligence can guide you toward a more authentic life. Don't miss this opportunity to gain insights into developing these vital intelligences—emotional, positive, and spiritual—to enhance your everyday interactions and overall fulfillment. Do you ever feel like an impostor among your colleagues and peers? Do you wonder whether your degree, qualifications, and experience are just “not enough” to achieve the success you want? In Episode 17, host Jami Carlacio and guest Siobhán (“Shivaun”) Murphy discuss the concept of imposter syndrome, that nagging feeling of being a fraud despite your accomplishments. We explore how this phenomenon disproportionately affects high-achieving women, leading to self-doubt, anxiety, and a reluctance to take on new challenges.Imposter syndrome is a psychological pattern where individuals believe they are overhyped and their success is due to luck or external factors, not their own competence. This can manifest in various ways, from downplaying achievements to attributing positive feedback to mere politeness.Emotional intelligence (EQ) is a powerful weapon against imposter syndrome. Drawing on the power of your Inner Sage, you can challenge negative self-talk, build confidence in your abilities, and conquer this pesky problem. The long and short of it is, YOU BELONG! You come to embrace and believe in the value you bring to your peers, colleagues, and everyone else where you feel the need to perform at your best. But within us all lies the voice of our Inner Sage, whispering divine wisdom to guide us through the storm. In Episode 16 of Positive Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, my guest Jenn Berger and I talk about navigating the intricate journey of grief. Leveraging the power of Positive Intelligence and reaching into the deep well of compassion, we'll have a conversation that honors vulnerability and courage. Tapping into the powers of our Inner Sage such as empathy, explore, navigate, and activate helps us navigate the challenges, celebrate the victories, and ultimately, find ways to rebuild our life with grace and resilience. Forgiving someone, even ourselves, for a wrong or perceived injustice is one of the hardest things to do. The popular cliche "to forgive is to forget" is wrong! Forgiveness is about freedom--from resentment, anger, blame, judgment, and even shame and guilt. Fear is a totally normal emotion! We all feel it sometimes, whether it's when we are heading into "unknown territory" or facing a difficult situation and we aren't sure how it's going to turn out. Many of us experience fear when faced with the prospect of looking for a new job or leaving an old one, entering into or leaving a relationship, or even just getting in the car and trying to stay alert to potential dangers on the highway. BUT: When it comes to making decisions or even just starting the day, fear can cripple us. It can prevent us from taking action, prevent us from speaking our truth, prevent us from trying something new that may turn out to be the best thing we ever did. Our Inner Sage, that Divine Self that loves us unconditionally, will help us, if we draw on it. Using the Sage powers of Positive Intelligence, we can tap into our Sage through mindful breathing, using our senses to stay in the present moment, and even praying, asking for help. Trust your Sage. Know that when you are fully present, you are neither in the past nor in the future. You are right here, right now. Look at your feet. Where are they? Tune in to Episode 13 of Emotional Intelligence:: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success when interview Lauri Stern and we talk about why mindfulness and being centered in our body is the best way to live in faith and combat fear.Show Notes:Lauri Stern:email either Lauri@customdesignedwellness.com AND Lstheflash@gmail.com FB: Lauri Stern Yoga https://www.facebook.com/LauriSternYoga/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61557984732036Insta: @sternlauri https://www.instagram.com/sternlauri/linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lauri-fleischmann-stern-28417a58/Activism in the Name of God: Religion and Black Feminist Public Intellectuals from the Nineteenth Century to the Present. With special guest Dr. Doreen Downing, Jami Carlacio discusses the value of connecting with our essence, our True inner guru and inner sage. When we connect with our Essence, we come from a place of #love and #authenticity. When we don't or can't do this, #communication breaks down. We are relational people, after all. So, it's crucial that we speak our truth to whomever we meet and are in relationship with. Another way to say this, and this is Dr. Doreen's speciality, is to find your voice so you can change your life. We need to let of of the ego that is the false self. In PQ or Positive Intelligence terms, we need to recognize and silence the demons and saboteurs that cause us to engage in negative self-talk. By drawing on the divine self that is in all of us, we can live and behave the way we were created to be: loving human beings. The best way to get in touch with ourselves is through the body, specifically the breath, and to pay attention to what's going on inside us. The next time you're feeling alone, feeling stuck, and maybe even imprisoned by the external voices that get us down, remember who you are: a beloved child of Creation!Visit Doreen's website: DoreenDowning.comFind her on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drdoreenh/Her podcast, "Find Your Voice, Change Your Life": https://open.spotify.com/show/4eyVPLIymgvonLiEoM3ZjR?si=315f23d52a3047edSupport the Show.Want to learn how to build your ©PQ? Neurodivergence is a word we hear everywhere and has gained popularity among those who identify as such. Whether it's ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or some other form of difference from what is called "neurotypical," many might wonder whether the stigma attached to neurological differences has really disappeared. In episode 12 of the podcast Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, Jami Carlacio interviews two guests--LaMyra McGee, a licensed school psychologist, and Bob Palacios, a software engineer, on their experience as persons identifying as neurodivergent. Jami herself also identifies as neurodivergent, and as this episode demonstrates, there is more to people than their neurological differences. Are any of us really all that different? Do we need a label to describe how we process information and relate to the world? How might Positive Intelligence help us navigate a complex world where difference is more often seen as "othering" than something to be embraced? In episode 9 on the "C" series of Compassionate Curiosity, I explain how to bring your Sage into group meetings. Imagine there are nine of you in a meeting and need to make an important decision and all of you brought your Judge and chief saboteur. What a disaster! Now, reimagine the scenario in which you all arrive in Sage gear. Members each get a say, and by playing the Sage game of "Yes, And" and employing the 90/10 principle, each person gets to express an idea, going around the room. Sage #1 offers an idea, 90% of which may be bad! But Sage #2 finds 10% of it to like and expresses that AND offers up idea #2. And on it goes until there are nine sage ideas to work with. Groups of humans are interlocking ecosystems, and when the system is healthy all thrive, but if even one part isn't, the system doesn't work. It's like that with trees, whose roots "talk" to each other and work together for the good of all the trees in the group. I quote the German forester Peter Wohlleben, author of The Hidden Life of Trees, who explains that trees are sentient and behave in humanistic ways with parent trees taking care of their saplings and each other. And I tie this to the ancient Chinese text Tao te Ching, where Verse 39 expresses the value of oneness. In this episode of Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, I define compassionate curiosity and explain how this is the Sage path--the one of self-love, the Divine inner Self that loves us no matter what. I talk about how we often screw up and listen to the Judge's negative chatter that leads to us beating ourselves up. I then explain that doing PQ reps to stop the Judge in its tracks and choosing the Sage path is ultimately what serves us and others. We may have acted in ways we regret, but we are perfectly imperfect human beings. We can imagine ourselves as a young, innocent child and as we show compassion and empathy toward them, we can learn to deliver that same compassion and empathy to our current selves as well as to others. Further, we can don the hat of a curious anthropologist who is observing--without judgement--behaviors and attitudes to see what might be going on underneath the surface: a trigger? Bad mood? Hangry? By choosing the Sage path we weaken the Judge's path and truly become free. Support the Show.Want to learn how to build your ©PQ? In the 7th episode of Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, guest Denise Hanks discusses with host Jami Carlacio what being brave and making bold choices mean to her and how this manifests in her coaching. During the interview, Carlacio and Hanks discussed the value of moving out of our comfort zone to embrace change, as that is the only way we can grow. Acknowledging that there will always be some fear of change, these two PQ coaches agree that the best way to overcome fear is to walk through it. We need only take one step at a time and savor the journey. It's like a scavenger hunt for life: a lot of the joy is discovering the treasure along the way. In Episode 6 (Living in the Liminal Space: Befriending Fear at the Crossroads) of Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, I discuss transitions, which begin with the end, take us to the middle or liminal space, and end with a new beginning. Changes usually bring fear, and I encourage you to make friends with and accept fear as a part of the human experience. I share how our Judge and saboteurs want to hijack us and keep us in the space we're in while the Inner Sage helps us to navigate the way forward. I offer suggestions for doing some PQ reps at the PQ gym to activate the Sage path. Ultimately, ask yourself what makes you happy, and ask, "what would Love do?"Show Notes:Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes, DeCapo Lifelong Books, 2004.ISBN: 073820904XSynopsis: Transitions takes readers step-by-step through the three perilous stages of any transition, explaining how each stage can be understood and embraced. The book offers an elegant, simple, yet profoundly insightful roadmap to navigate change and move into a hopeful future: Endings. Every transition begins with one. Too often we misunderstand them, confuse them with finality -- that's it, all over, finished Yet the way we think about endings is key to how we can begin anew. The Neutral Zone. The second hurdle: a seemingly unproductive time-out when we feel disconnected from people and things in the past, and emotionally unconnected to the present. Actually, the neutral zone is a time of reorientation. How can we make the most of it?The New Beginning. We come to beginnings only at the end, when we launch new activities. To make a successful new beginning requires more than simply persevering. It requires an understanding of the external signs and inner signals that point the way to the future.Support the Show.Want to learn how to build your ©PQ? In the fifth episode of Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, I discuss the topics of bravery and boldness, both of which require courage and vulnerability. I explain how many, if not all of us, experience fear and that blocks us from making choices that would improve our wellbeing. There comes a time--or times--in our life when we need or want to ask ourselves: What's happening in my life? Am I happy, satisfied, or numb? Am I tired, bored? Or am I content and finding joy in what I do and who I am? Taking stock of our lives can feel like a big risk; it is, in fact, because we don't necessarily want to "look under the hood" or open the closet door lest the skeletons come tumbling out. We may not like the answers to the questions we ask. We may regret things done and not done. But if growth and serenity and joy are to take place, we need to be bold, we need to be brave: In a word, we need to be courageous. And being courageous is being vulnerable. And we access that by calling on our Inner Sage and turning the volume down on the Judge and its accomplice saboteurs. Support the Show.Want to learn how to build your ©PQ? In this third episode of the Awareness, Acceptance, and Action series, the discussion focuses on transforming conflict at work by using the Positive Intelligence® Sage muscle of empathy. I first discuss some ©PQ grounding techniques that are useful for everyday events, and the more often you use them (several times a day, even if it's just for 5 or 10 minutes at a time,) you'll be amazed at how easily and quickly you can turn away from the negative thought path and toward the Sage path. In this inaugural episode of Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, Jami explains what Positive Intelligence® (©PQ) is: a combination of emotional intelligence, or EQ, and mental fitness that help you to see problems as situations that are opportunities for growth. ©PQ is a mental gym, and by doing daily ©PQ reps, you become stronger and more resilient and can face life and work challenges with poise and confidence. To build your ©PQ, you need to be aware of the self-sabotaging Judge and its nine accomplices inside your head that breed negative thoughts that lead to negative behaviors. One you are aware, you learn to accept what's going on, and finally, you take the right action of listening to your "inner sage," which is to say your true self and your inner wisdom.Support the Show.Want to learn how to build your ©PQ?
