In this episode of The Best Boss Podcast, Danny Ceballos and members of The Hive of expert coaches explore the delicate balance between decisive action and thoughtful deliberation, sharing research, real-world insights, and actionable strategies. Through practical examples and thought-provoking discussions, the coaches examine the importance of understanding personal and team tendencies, leveraging tools like Positive Intelligence, and embracing the nuances of decision-making in a fast-paced world. Whether you're a quick starter or a deliberate planner, this episode offers invaluable lessons for leaders looking to enhance their effectiveness. Key Takeaways The Speed Paradox: Effective leadership requires balancing speed and deliberation. Quick decisions can drive innovation but must be tempered with thoughtful strategy. Positive Intelligence (PQ): Practices like PQ reps help leaders transition from reactive to reflective states, enhancing clarity and decision-making. Go Slow to Go Fast: Slowing down can lead to better long-term outcomes, reducing burnout and improving decision-making for both individuals and teams. Strategic vs. Tactical Action: Quick actions are ideal for tactical tasks, while strategic initiatives often benefit from deliberate planning and reflection. The Cost of Rushing: Rushing decisions can lead to mistakes, misalignment with core values, and suboptimal results, especially in complex environments. Know Your Leadership Style: Tools like Kolbe, DISC, and StrengthsFinder can help leaders and teams understand their natural tendencies and work more cohesively. Adapt to Context: Decision-making should align with the nature of the task, whether it's hiring, crisis management, or long-term planning. Build Awareness: Understanding personal and organizational tendencies can help teams balance speed with deliberation, fostering collaboration rather than conflict. Seasons of Leadership: Leadership requires acknowledging natural cycles—times for planning, action, and reflection—to maximize effectiveness. The Power of the Hive: Leveraging diverse perspectives and strengths within a team leads to more balanced and effective decision-making. Authentically Awkward: Your Leadership Superpower | Ep #46

The Best Boss Bootcamp Podcast

In this episode of The Best Boss Podcast, host Danny Ceballos and "The Hive" of expert leadership coaches dive into an unconventional but essential topic: embracing awkwardness as a superpower. They explore how leaning into vulnerability and discomfort can enhance leadership authenticity, foster deeper connections, and inspire others to bring their true selves to the table. Listeners are guided through a grounding Positive Intelligence (PQ) exercise before the coaches share personal stories and practical advice on reframing awkwardness as an opportunity for growth. This episode offers actionable insights for leaders looking to build resilience, improve team inclusivity, and embrace the power of being perfectly imperfect. Key Takeaways Awkwardness is a universal experience that, when embraced, reduces stress and fosters authenticity. Reframing awkwardness as authenticity can lead to greater connection and trust. Vulnerability in leadership can strengthen relationships and boost team performance. Self-awareness is key: name the emotions behind awkwardness and look for the wisdom they offer. Stepping out of your comfort zone often leads to new opportunities and relationships. Leaning into awkwardness helps leaders foster inclusivity and navigate difficult conversations. Pause, reflect, and breathe through discomfort to reframe it as a growth moment. Recognize that awkwardness is often a story we create in our minds, not an absolute truth. Permission to be messy encourages creativity, innovation, and deeper human connections. Every awkward moment is a chance to learn, reset, and strengthen your leadership. "The Hive" is ... In this episode of Intuition: Your Success Compass, I welcome new and returning listeners and focus on the critical need for connection in a disconnected world. Back in 2012, I had an intuitive premonition about my husband's passing, and this is how I prepared emotionally, physically, and financially for it. This experience involved everything from personal training to studying neural pathways, which led me to integrate coaching even more deeply into my intuitive practice.  I talk about my initial resistance and how those preparations ultimately helped me navigate the loss, support my family, and keep my business stable. Later, when my work started to feel stagnant, the Positive Intelligence® (PQ) framework reignited my passion. This approach, which blends cognitive understanding with intuition, has been a blessing in helping my clients and myself handle life's challenges with more understanding, strategy, and joy!  I share practical tips on recognizing and managing those internal saboteurs we all have and offer exercises that you can put to use right away. In Season 3 episode 9, Arthi is joined by fellow Forbes Coaches Council member Lara Augusta, founder of Embracing Potentiality, talking about undoing complicated narratives. Lara opens  up about her family & childhood where experiences led her to create a  narrative in her mind of being an inconvenience and not belonging. This mindset stemmed from having to keep a massive family secret for her whole life and Lara goes into detail about how her family dynamic impacted her journey.Lara has always had a natural curiosity  in learning & connecting with people from different countries & cultures, so it is no surprise that her world travels began at the tender age of 15 when she had convinced her father to allow her to attend schooling in the UK for a year. This was the first time that Lara was able to simply be herself and make her own choices. However the narrative remained the same in her thoughts.Lara tells us how important it is to change the unproductive narrative that we carry with us and to have grace & patience with ourselves in undoing the narrative and allowing new choices to be madeSome wise words from Lara:“..surviving mode was not allowing me to thrive..“Choose yourself”“Honour the choices you have made” Listen to the full episode for so much more insights and ideas offered by my wonderful guest. About Lara Augusta:Lara is a coach, student and facilitator in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (D.E.I.), Core Energy Leadership Coaching, Energy Leadership Index (E.L.I.), Social-Emotional Learning and Positive Intelligence (PQ).  She does corporate work in a number of sectors, since pivoting away from International relations, industries that include biotechnology, insurance, sports, food, hospitality, and entertainment, the Olympics even. Positive Intelligence (PQ) is something we can all use a little boost of. Patrick Cameron is a Life Coach, focusing on Positive Intelligence and Mental Fitness, with 40 years of experience in the human potential and developmental systems. His goal is assisting those of us in the second half of life in imagining and creating a remarkable retirement. The program he follows and teaches was created by Shirzad Chamine and is based on the belief that we all have saboteurs within us. The primary saboteur, that everyone has, is called the Judge. We judge ourselves, others, and circumstances. The lesser saboteurs, or accomplices of the Judge, are present in varying degrees and they come to the forefront in different circumstances. The predominant accomplices differ from person to person and can change over time as we change. The saboteurs are generated on the left side of our brain, where our survival instincts lie. They stir up negative emotions (fear, stress, anger, guilt). The Sage is the balance for the Judge and the other saboteurs. Inhabiting the right side of the brain, the Sage is involved with the empathy circuitry and positive emotions (passion, purpose, curiosity, creativity) Mental fitness is our capacity to respond to life's challenges with a positive rather than a negative mindset. There are three core muscles at the root of mental fitness and they constitute the foundation for change. The goal is not elimination of any of the saboteurs, but rather recognition so we can use the characteristics to our benefit instead of our detriment. The three muscles are: Saboteur Interceptor - being able to catch ourselves as we fall into the habit of each saboteur Sage Perspective - learning to address every outcome/circustance in a fashion that turns it into an opportunity Self-Command - simple practices to help us focus on "here & now". Please check out the short questionnaire to find out what your saboteurs are: https://positiveintelligence.com (https://positiveintelligence.com) and click on "saboteurs". Curiously, I forgot to mention my daily Positive Intelligence (PQ) practice which tries to reduce my saboteurs.  The rest is here though. I mention the two weekly leadership groups; the Influencers and Aspiring Leaders, who make what I do all worth while.  What are you doing that will change your life for the better? Have you set the intention?  To quote the ever quotable John C. Maxwell: "Change is inevitable, growth is optional"

In this week's episode, I talk about the power of positive intelligence and a new program I am going through aimed at helping you understand your inner critic, your inner saboteurs, and how to know when those judgmental voices in your head are highjacking you. The Positive Intelligence (PQ) program was developed by Shirzad Chamine, the author of the New York Times bestselling "Positive Intelligence." He has been the CEO of the largest coach training organization globally, having trained faculty at Stanford and Yale business schools. The premise of PQ is mental fitness: how do you handle the curveballs life throws at you. Activating your inner Sage, the voice that is calm, rational, and full of discernment, is so important today because who isn't getting curve balls thrown at them. All leaders have faced so many challenges over the past few years, and if you're like me, you've certainly second-guessed yourself. You've had self-doubt. You've tried to control things. You've gotten upset. You've been attempting to over rationalize. All of these are the voices of our saboteurs, and they make us show up in a way that we don't want to show up. When we show up in negative ways that hurt not only ourselves, but we also hurt our relationships with others, and it can create unnecessary negative situations, The PQ program teaches you how to tap into positive intelligence and use your Sage - the calm, empathetic, innovative voice that drowns out the saboteurs - to help you live a more positive, healthy, and less judgmental life. The program is remarkable, and it's helped me gain a deeper understanding of myself and others. I recognize when my controller saboteur kicks in and pushes me to control the outcome. I can see when my hyper achiever saboteur dries me to do more, even though I don't want to. You can check out the program here: https://www.positiveintelligence.com/ I highly recommend trying the program; it only takes 6 weeks, and you'll feel better and have a lot more knowledge about your inner workings. Question of the Episode This week's question comes from a LinkedIn member who asked, "What's the biggest myth you'd like to dispel about being a CEO?" My answer: that CEOs have all the answers! Tune in to find why.

The concept of mental fitness and positive intelligence is the brainchild of Shirzad Charmine and is documented in his book, Positive Intelligence: Why Only 20% of Teams and Individuals Achieve Their True Potential and How You Can Achieve Yours Specifically, the Positive Intelligence (PQ) or Mental Fitness concept is as follows: Your left brain: Your negative emotions are heightened by an over-active left brain. The over-active left brain is ruled by what PQ calls, your “saboteurs” Some of these saboteurs were born with you – they are inherent. Others were developed as a way to survive as you grew up These saboteurs often hijack your thoughts and lead you down the wrong paths Your right brain is: Where your positive emotions and your “wiser self” reside, or In PQ terms, where your “sage” lives. The net result is: Your wiser self or your right brain is often drowned out by the power of your over-active left brain saboteurs The power of the Positive Intelligence system can turn down the volume of your saboteurs and increase the volume of your sage.
