How can we eat better when we're constantly marketed to in a way that hijacks our attention and habits? To complement the incredible discussions we regularly have about brain-healthy nutrition, in this episode, we've having a very important conversation about how the food industry works against our best intentions, and how we can break through the psychological barriers they use to hold us back. We're joined by Marion Nestle, Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health, Emerita, at New York University, whose name is practically synonymous with food policy: a pioneering nutritionist, public health advocate, and author of some of the most important books in this space, including Food Politics, What to Eat, and Unsavory Truth. In this episode, we discuss: • The neuroscience of why food choices aren't “just willpower” • Why access, not just knowledge, is the biggest barrier to good nutrition • The importance of schools, policy, and local food programs in shaping food culture • The role of stress, fatigue, and decision overload in weakening dietary choices • Why social media is a double-edged sword for nutrition information  • How we can make a difference at the community level This is... David Gower, CEO and Chairman of Emerita Resources (TSX.V: EMO) (OTCQB: EMOTF), joins me to outline the key metrics and takeaways from the updated Mineral Resource Estimate announced on March 11th on the wholly owned polymetallic Iberian West Project (IBW), located in southern Spain. We also get an update on the legal proceedings at the Aznalcóllar Project later in the conversation.   The Mineral Resource Estimate is based on 105,554 meters of drilling by the Company comprising 299 drill holes and is hosted in three volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits on the project; La Romanera (LR), La Infanta (LI), and the more recently delineated El Cura (EC) deposit (LR=169 holes totaling 70,344m; LI=91 holes totaling 20,975m; EC=39 holes totaling 14,235m). All three deposits remain open for further expansion by future drilling. The IBW project is reporting:   A Total Indicated MRE of 18.96 million tonnes grading 2.88% zinc, 1.42% lead, 0.5% copper, 66 g/t silver, and 1.28 g/t gold (8.44% ZnEq or 3.01% CuEq); A Total Inferred MRE of 6.80 million tonnes grading 3.25% zinc 1.50% lead, 0.73% copper, 56.3 g/t silver, and 0.77 g/t gold (8.72% ZnEq or 3.00% CuEq); The updated Mineral Resource Estimate achieves numerous improvements when compared to the previous May 23, 2023 MRE, which include a +35% increase in Total Indicated MRE tonnage and a +44% increase in Total Inferred MRE tonnage; There was also an increased gold metal content within the Total Indicated MRE from 629 Koz to 783 Koz, which is an increase of +154 Koz (+24%) with a likewise increase in contained gold within the Total Inferred Resource from 137 Koz to 168 Koz or an increase of +31 Koz (+23%) gold, respectively;   El Cura is still being drilled with 4 rigs, and is located in between La Infanta and La Romanera, but more closely resembles La Romanera metallurgically, returning higher gold values along with the base metals. David walks us through how each of these 3 deposit areas plays into the larger development strategy, where the earlier stage mining decline at La Romanera can now drift through El Cura on the way to the development of La Infanta, bringing in El Cura in as a future economic driver much earlier in the mining sequence.  We discuss all the derisking work going on in the background building toward the PFS this year, as well as an update on the environmental permits anticipated to come in over the next couple months.   We wrap up getting an update on where things are in the courts, with the sentencing portion of the legal proceedings have commenced on March 3rd, furthering the clarity on whether Emerita Resources will be awarded the high-grade polymetallic Aznalcóllar Project later this year, as the only other qualified bidder at the time.   If you have any follow up questions for David regarding Emerita Resources, then email those in to me at  Shad@kereport.com.   Click here to follow the latest news from Emerita Resources

Keskiaikainen tiilirakentaminen kehittyi Pohjois-Italiassa, mistä se alkoi levitä Pohjois-Eurooppaan. Suomen ensimmäiset merkit tiilirakentamisesta löytyvät Varsinais-Suomesta. David Gower, CEO and Chairman of Emerita Resources (TSX.V: EMO) (OTCQB: EMOTF), joins me to provide an update on the recent multi-element drill results returned at El Cura, along with continued metallurgical testing and other derisking work being conducted which will feed into a resource update next month and upcoming Pre-Feasibility Study later in the year to advance the polymetallic Iberian West Project (IBW), located in southern Spain.   We start by discussing the exploration and development potential at El Cura, and what is being learned through the additional drill results just released to the market today on February 13th.  Highlights include:   Drillhole EC037 intersected 9.3m grading 1.1% copper, 0.7% lead, 2.1% zinc, 1.2 g/t gold and 34.8 g/t silver, including 2.5m grading 1.7% copper, 0.9% lead, 3.8% zinc, 2.0 g/t gold and 47.3g/t silver; Drillhole EC036 intersected 5.2m grading 2.1% copper, 1.3% lead, 2.8% zinc, 1.6 g/t gold and 65.5 g/t silver; Drillhole EC034 intersected 1.1m grading 2.2% copper, 2.0% lead, 6.7% zinc, 3.5 g/t gold and 148.2 g/t silver.   David walks us through how El Cura is located into between La Infanta and La Romanera, but more closely resembles La Romanera, returning higher gold values along with the base metals. Each of these 3 deposit areas plays into the larger development strategy where the earlier stage mining at La Infanta can now drift through El Cura on the way to the development of La Romanera, bringing in El Cura as a future economic driver much earlier in the mining sequence.  We discuss all the derisking work going on in the background building toward the PFS later this year, as well as an update on the environmental permits anticipated to come in over the next couple months.   We wrap up noting the ongoing exploration work at the earlier-stage Nuevo Tintillo Project, and got an update on where things are in the courts, with the sentencing portion of the legal proceedings kicking off in early March, furthering the clarity on whether Emerita Resources will be awarded the high-grade polymetallic Aznalcóllar Project later this year, as the only other qualified bidder at the time.   If you have any follow up questions for David regarding Emerita Resources, then email those in to me at  Shad@kereport.com.   Click here to follow the latest news from Emerita Resources

“Evolutionary architecture became a necessity, not because anybody wanted it to be, but because you didn't have a choice. You have to be able to change your systems to keep up with changing business and consumer expectations, let alone regulatory frameworks.” In this episode, I have an insightful conversation with Rebecca Parsons, coauthor of Building Evolutionary Architectures and ex-CTO of ThoughtWorks, on the topic of evolutionary architecture. Rebecca shares the definition and principles of evolutionary architecture, as well as some important practices that software engineering teams can adopt to support it. Rebecca also offers her perspective on the impact of AI in software development and evolutionary architecture. Key takeaways: - Evolutionary architecture supports guided, incremental change across multiple dimensions. - Fitness functions are a key tool for implementing evolutionary architecture. - Some of the important engineering practices for evolutionary architecture include continuous delivery, evolutionary database, contract testing, and choreography over orchestration. - AI coding assistants can help analyze and understand complex legacy systems, aiding in refactoring and modernization efforts. - Over-reliance on AI coding assistants may hinder the development of proper abstraction and critical thinking skills, especially in junior developers. David Gower, CEO and Chairman of Emerita Resources (TSX.V: EMO – OTC: EMOTF), joins me to provide an update on the continued metallurgical testing beyond even the Phase 2, showing enhanced gold recoveries at La Romanera, along with an exploration and development update at El Cura and other derisking work being conducted to advance the polymetallic Iberian West Project (IBW), located in southern Spain.   We start by discussing the ongoing metallurgical work completed in the Phase 2 testing at the IBW Project, mostly at the Zinc-Copper-Lead-Silver-Gold La Infanta and Romanera deposits. David shares how their approach has optimizing metal recoveries at both areas using separate copper, lead, and zinc concentrates; but also a new 2 phase system really improves the gold recoveries, which would impact future payables in production scenario at La Romanera which has a higher gold credit.  The company is also still exploring the viability of a 4th arsenopyrite concentrate circuit at Romanera to capture even higher gold values and payable arsenic credit that would report to this concentrate, but the previously mentioned 2-phase process doesn't require this.      Next we pivoted over to the exploration and development potential at El Cura , which was not part of the Phase 1 or Phase 2 metallurgical study, but is going through it's own testing at present.  There has also been a continued focus on exploration drilling and expanding the mineralized area so that this 3rd deposit it can be included in the coming updated resource estimate due out in late Q1.  David walks us through how each of these 3 deposit areas plays into the larger development strategy where the earlier stage mining at La Infanta can now drift through El Cura on the way to the development of La Romanera, bringing in El Cura as a future economic driver much earlier in the mining sequence now.  This will be highlighted in a PFS due out later in 2025.   We wrap up noting the ongoing exploration work at the earlier-stage Nuevo Tintillo Project, and got an update on where things are in the courts, with 3 months until the sentencing portion of the legal proceedings in their initiative to be awarded the high-grade polymetallic Aznalcóllar Project.   If you have any follow up questions for David regarding Emerita Resources, then email those in to me at  Shad@kereport.com.   Click here to follow the latest news from Emerita Resources

Over the past year, college campuses have been filled with student protests and demonstrations. A large number of these protests involved students camping out on campus for weeks, taking over administrative and academic buildings, harassing and threatening other students and faculty members, and destruction of property. Many administrators have refused to discipline students or enforce their policies because of First Amendment concerns. Instead, they contend the First Amendment prohibited them from punishing the students or enforcing their policies because the students were engaged in protected speech. When it comes to protests and demonstrations, what does the First Amendment protect? When does protected speech cross the line into unprotected conduct? What duties does a public university have to protect its students from harassment and intimidation? From Sparks to Light - Inspiring Stories for Challenging Times

It was just a ham sandwich.Karen Olson walked that route hundreds of times. Heading home after a long day of work in New York City at pharmaceutical company Warner Lambert, she noticed a woman sitting in front of Grand Central Station who appeared to be homeless. Instead of walking past as she'd done so many times before, she ran across the street and bought the woman a sandwich and a bottle of orange juice. “Thank you,” the woman said. It was the first time she had eaten since the day before. As she sat beside her, Karen took the woman's hand in hers. When Deanna Strable was approached to take on the role of CFO at Principal Financial Group, she was taken by surprise. Having spent most of her 30-year career in leading business units rather than focusing on finance, Strable initially questioned whether she was the right fit for a position traditionally held by financial experts.“Ultimately,” she recalls, “what I learned from our board and CEO was that they really wanted someone who could partner with them in driving the company forward—someone who had the ability, obviously, not only to understand the financials but also to be able to do so within the context of appreciating and analyzing how the day-to-day impact of our operations on our financials related to our long-term strategy.”This blend of operational insight and financial expertise would come to define her tenure as CFO. Over her 7 years in the role, she led the company through significant strategic shifts. Under her leadership, Principal exited underperforming and commoditized businesses, such as retail annuities and individual life insurance. These moves were part of a broader plan to focus the company on areas with greater long-term-growth potential, including retirement solutions and asset management.Strable also reshaped the company's financial priorities, moving beyond a narrow focus on earnings growth to a broader set of metrics, including return on equity, capital allocation, and customer satisfaction. Her emphasis on optimizing multiple metrics, rather than chasing short-term financial gains, helped to lay the groundwork for sustainable success. Strable's career journey as CFO was a testament to the power of strategic thinking in driving both financial and long-term business growth.
