Eating clean, loading up on salmon, and seasoning with garlic and ginger. But what if the very foods keeping you “healthy” are quietly inflaming your body?In this episode, I bring back Margaret Floyd Barry—functional nutritionist, food sensitivity specialist, and founder of Restorative Wellness Solutions—to walk me through the gut healing protocol she created based on my own poop and blood.Seriously. I gave her both.We dive into why I've got to cut out garlic, ginger, and wine temporarily and why that doesn't mean I'm stuck eating bland food forever. This isn't about restriction. It's about strategy. Margaret lays out the science behind MRT testing, explains why variety matters more than perfection, and shows how to build a gut that can handle life and wine again. If you're training hard, trying to stay sharp, or wondering why your “clean diet” isn't translating into energy, digestion, or results, this episode will make you rethink what's actually helping or hurting your gut.If you're eating the same thing every single day and have a leaky gut, the likelihood of you being sensitive to what you're eating all the time is much more significant." ~ Margaret Floyd BarryAbout Margaret Floyd BarryMargaret Floyd Barry is a renowned Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) and the founder of Restorative Wellness Solutions, where she trains health practitioners in the same strategies she has successfully used to transform her clients' health. In this episode, I chat with Dr. Pedram Shojai to dive into the fascinating connection between your gut and your overall health. We break down neuroception — how your body subconsciously scans for safety — and why it plays such a critical role in healing and performance. We get into the gut's “second brain,” the enteric nervous system, and how it drives your physical and mental well-being without you even realizing it. Dr. Shojai also shares real-world insights on tackling dysbiosis, understanding gut-immune symbiosis, and how simple lifestyle shifts can radically improve your health. If you've ever wondered how stress, gut health, and the nervous system all tie together — and how to actually use that knowledge to feel better — this is an episode you won't want to miss. Key Takeaways: Understanding Neuroception: Neuroception refers to the subconscious detection of safety or threat in the body, playing a crucial role in both gut health and overall well-being. Gut as an Immune Organ: The gut houses the majority of the body's immune cells, acting as a critical barrier between the inside of the body and external threats. Role of Stress in Gut Health: Chronic stress can disrupt gut microbiota, leading to issues like dysbiosis and gut permeability, thereby affecting mental health. Food Sensitivities: Identifying and avoiding food sensitivities can prevent chronic inflammation, leading to better overall health. Holistic Approaches to Wellness: Emphasizing mind-body practices, such as meditation and breath work, can improve gut health by promoting a balanced parasympathetic state. Natural and artificial food dyes are ubiquitous, but some people try to avoid consuming food or beverages of a certain color for different reasons. James Tarbox, M.D., Texas Tech Physicians allergist, explains that food dyes are added to food for aesthetic purposes and are generally safe. They can cause rare allergic reactions such as hives, swelling, shortness of breath and low blood pressure. To avoid allergic reactions, Dr. Tarbox recommends consuming fresh, unprocessed foods, reading labels carefully and making meals at home.
I can almost guarantee we have all noticed some way or another that we have reacted to a certain food - it is simply our body's way of communicating with us! If this episode was helpful for you, I would like to send you over to check out Cravings Masterclass that's coming out soon

Happy April! As we step into the months of April and May, I (Allison) am on maternity leave. To celebrate this, we're pulling content from our group coaching calls inside our private coaching group, the Better Belly Blueprint, to share with YOU. Today's topic is from my client Elizabeth. She asked:"Is it possible that some food sensitivities are caused because of mold exposure? If so, after doing mold detox - is it possible for gluten and dairy sensitivities to go away?"Elizabeth's question comes from the fact that she got toxic mold testing inside our program that showed that she has mold colonization in her body that was part of the root causes driving her symptoms. She also got advanced food sensitivity testing showing foods she was temporarily sensitive to and foods she was permanently sensitive to. (For more information on this food sensitivity test - be sure to subscribe to hear our podcast episode on this coming out in June!)Gluten and dairy technically were on her permanent food sensitivity list, so what Elizabeth REALLY wanted to know is - can any of her permanent food sensitivities ever go away? This is a SUPER common question I get ask, and I'm so excited to share my real answer with you today!P.S. ~ If you want to ask questions to me JUST LIKE THIS ONE and get my live feedback, now you can! Send us a textThis week on The Less Stressed Life Podcast, I'm sharing my full health journey—the struggles, the mistakes, and the lessons learned—so you don't have to spend 10 years figuring it out like I did. In this episode, I take you back to two pivotal health crises in my life: one in 2015 and another in 2017. This week, I'm focusing on the 2015 crisis—the wake-up call that led me to truly understand the connection between gut health, food sensitivities, and chronic inflammation. You'll hear about the symptoms I ignored, the treatments that didn't work, and how I finally started to heal after months of trial and error. Plus, I'm answering some of the biggest questions my clients have about what finally worked and why food sensitivities, histamine, and hormone imbalances are not the root cause of eczema.❓Questions about my journey or your own health struggles? Histamine is often misunderstood. It's blamed for allergies, hives, and frustrating symptoms like flushing, itching, and congestion. But histamine itself isn't the problem - it's a symptom of a deeper issue.Your gut plays a crucial role in regulating histamine. It houses the bacteria that break it down and keep it in balance. But when the gut is imbalanced, harmful bacteria and yeast take over, inflammation rises, and histamine starts to build up faster than your body can clear it. The result? Chronic allergic responses, food sensitivities, headaches, and even more severe reactions. And here's what most doctors won't tell you - antihistamines don't fix the root cause. While they can be life-saving in severe situations, they work by suppressing symptoms, not by addressing the underlying imbalance. Over time, they can actually make histamine intolerance worse by further disrupting the gut microbiome. You don't have to live in fear of food or rely on medication forever. You can heal.In this episode, I'll walk you through:The real reason histamine builds up in the body (hint: it's not just about your diet). Why long-term antihistamine use can make histamine intolerance worse. How to rebalance your gut so your body can regulate histamine the way it was designed to.If histamine issues have left you feeling stuck, this episode is for you. Tune in now to learn how to restore balance, support your microbiome, and take back control of your health. If you or your child have been on antihistamines, don't stop based on this episode—listen, learn, and empower yourself with knowledge. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Jacqueline: Hi Dr Cabral. Thank you! I've been feeling better already. Part of school ihp 1 -2. Here's my issues. Started with Detox 2 weeks. I had congestion after shake and mucous in my throat which is usually what happens with gluten and dairy (sensitive). I noticed dandelion root which also came up on my food sensitivities test I use 1 scoop now and take the multi Also the fruit and vegetable blend, all the grasses I have issues with so I can't use that. Question is I'm doing cbo protocol and taking all the stuff, daily detox c, d, zinc, mag, metavolve. Will the cbo protocol help these food sensitivities after I finish it? These supplements are foundation and I want to be able to use them. Thank you again. I'm so blessed I found this program. Audrey: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have 2 questions regarding food labels: 1. Is peanut oil considered one of the dangerous seed oils? It's listed with pecans, Brazil nuts and almonds in a mixed nut bag 2. Are oats that say glyphosate free but not organic safe to eat? There is a brand Seven Sundays that I love and has amazing ingredients, but it does not have the “organic label” but does say glyphosate free D: Thank you for all you/team do. I love your "test not guess" approach, but I have run out of resources from lots testing in with my MD/ND. I am hopping you can help me map out what protocols would be my "Best Bet" in your experience." My primary symptoms is the inability to breathe. After a very stressful year (financially, miscarriage, moving x2, death in the family & ultra-endurance event), my body feels like it has shut down. They gave me an epipen 2x at the hospital & put me on PPI as they can't figure out why I am not able to breathe (6months). Blood/stool testing shows no allergies issues, low testosterone, high cortisol, no gut issues . Working with a breath coach & done the 21 FMD (feel about 25% better). For context I was a high performing, health conscious 40yr/ m. S&C coach. Anonymous: Hi Dr Cabral, I listened to earlier podcasts on Ayurvedic body types (Dosha). Numbers 713, 907, 914, 922, 929, 936, 950, 969. I believe I am Vata body type. My question is about physical exercises. Walking outside is number 1 recommended cardio in those podcasts for Vata body type. Because walking does not allow to reach and stay in Zone 2, is Zone 2 cardio at all beneficial or recommended to Vata body types through inclined walking on treadmill or rowing machine? The question is due to my goal of gaining healthy weight and Zone 2 cardio for Vata may not contribute to that. I am male, 40 y.o., 5feet 7inches, 125 lbs. I did Big5, working with EquiLife health coach. I have candida and yeast overgrowth and I am in the middle of CBO protocol. Low testosterone, high evening cortisol. Ann: Hi Dr Cabral :). Thank you for all you do for your community every day :) We appreciate you . My 23yo son had routine bloodwork and came back with very low D and very high iron. I'm addressing the D, but I am wondering if you could explain possible root causes for high iron, and possible remedies beyond decreasing red meat and not cooking in cast iron. His GP is testing to see if there is a genetic cause as well. (His TIBC and UIBC were in the normal range , Iron Sat was 58 and Iron was 191 if that is info that helps) Thank you again - have a wonderful day :) Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right! - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/3320 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? Send us a textThis week, I'm bringing something new to The Less Stressed Life Podcast! I'm sitting down with my past client, Kelli, who went from struggling with eczema and food sensitivities to healing in a way that felt surprisingly linear. We don't always expect healing to be a straight path, but when it happens, it's a relief—and I wanted to dig into what made Kelli's journey so effective. Kelli's story is a great example of what's possible when you take the right steps. In this episode of the Confidently Balance Your Hormones podcast, Dee Davidson, FDN-P talks about the controversial topic of food sensitivity testing. Healing food sensitivities is a huge piece of the wellness puzzle. What's often at the root? A condition called “leaky gut,” which happens when the intestinal lining is compromised, allowing food particles to escape into the bloodstream and triggering inflammation. This can lead to a long list of symptoms, but understanding the root cause can help you begin to heal. It was enlightening to have a conversation with Miriam about trauma healing, holistic approaches to treating cancer, and the power of breathwork. WHAT WE DISCUSSED: [9:17]- How Miriam healed from tragic life events including losing her father to 9/11 when she was 13, being poisoned by pollutants from the Twin Towers falling, and surviving breast cancer. [13:42]- How Miriam's mothers breast and lung cancer journey allowed Miriam to understand cancer's correlation with autoimmune disease and environmental exposures. [17:18]- How did eating a vegan diet leave Miriam feeling physically weak and energetically drained? [19:36]- What is the most effective test to run for food sensitivities? Should someone get retested to assess if they are still sensitive to those foods? [25:28]- How did Miriam handle her breast cancer diagnosis? [40:41]- Present day, what does Miriam's lifestyle look like? Nutrition? Fasting? Nervous system regulation? [46:43]- What is chelation therapy? How did Miriam leverage this healing modality for her own personal health journey? [51:35]- The role of breathwork in trauma healing and restoring nervous system balance. Miriam's beginner breathwork recommendations. LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: I am working on my self-paced version of Cortisol Calm at this very moment. Stay tuned for the release in January! Did you know that food sensitivities can silently contribute to systemic inflammation, gut issues, and even osteoporosis? In this episode, I speak with Margaret Floyd Barry, a functional nutritionist and expert in digestive health, to uncover the critical role of gut health in maintaining strong bones. Often overlooked, food sensitivities—especially to gluten—can damage the gut lining, lead to malabsorption of nutrients, and increase inflammation, all of which negatively impact bone health. Margaret explains why conventional medicine often misses food sensitivities and how integrative testing can uncover the root causes of gut dysfunction. Discover how removing triggers like gluten and supporting the gut with targeted strategies can lead to better digestion, reduced inflammation, and improved bone strength. Ready to dig deeper into your gut health and strengthen your bones? Tune in to this powerful episode and learn how addressing food sensitivities can transform your health from the inside out. “For any client I work with, I am starting with gut health and food sensitivities as a starting point, regardless of the clinical presentation overall, because these two pieces are absolutely foundational to healing.” ~ Margaret Floyd Barry In this episode: - [01:45] - Food allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities: understanding the differences - [07:19] - Food sensitivities as a hidden cause of inflammation and bone loss - [07:45] - Why traditional tests miss key food sensitivities - [13:47] - Health transformations after eliminating gluten - [19:24] - Specific tests to identify food sensitivities - [39:23] - How and where to get the necessary tests - [40:45] - Five steps to healing the gut and boosting immunity - [47:00] - Benefits of working with a practitioner to uncover sensitivities - [53:06] - Details about the practitioner training program - [58:15] - How to get in touch with Margaret Resources mentioned - Margie's Holiday Gift Guide - https://margiebissinger.com/margies-favorites/ - Purity Woods' Age-Defying Dream Cream Black Friday Sale - https://store.puritywoods.com/dream-cream/?orid=142271&opid=1&sid=nov24sp - Information on Practitioner Training Program - restorativewellnesssolutions.com - Margaret's Website - margaretfloydbarry.com - Margarets Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/margaretfloydbarry/ More about Margie - Website - https://margiebissinger.com/ - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/p/Margie-Bissinger-MS-PT-CHC-100063542905332/ - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/margiebissinger/?hl=en DISCLAIMER – The information presented on this podcast should not be construed as medical advice. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Melissa: Hi Dr. Cabral - on my food sensitivity test call, the coach said that there would be concern if a person didn't have any immune reactions to food because food is a foreign invader of the body. I see what she's saying to a certain extent but this was confusing to me because I thought the point of taking the test was to figure out your sensitivities and remove them for a certain period of time then reintroduce them to see if you're still sensitive…the goal being to remove a negative immune reaction and reduce stress on your body. Maybe I was misunderstanding what she was saying but this just sounded counterintuitive to me. Can you please explain? Could the sensitivities be affecting the IgG part of your immune system in which wouldn't you want to remove them? Dylaini: (Pronounced: Delaney) Hi Dr. Cabral, thanks for all of the knowledge and information you share. I am an RN hoping to make the jump to IHP soon! My son is 13 months old and he's already been on antibiotics 3x… once for fever of unknown origin at 50 days old and 2 other for ear infections. I know you and your coaches don't see kids until three years old. Are there any tips you have for kids under three to rebuild gut Microbiome because of these antibiotics and any suggestions of what to do to instead to avoid them in the future. Jackie: Hi Dr. Cabral, thank you for all you do. Your team and the work you do have been life changing for me. I struggle with garlic and onions - they cause me to burp & have gas for 48hours. It also take 3-4 days for me stop stinking (even with daily sauna/cardio)- very unpleasant. I don't eat them unless at family or friends or out of my direct control as a common cooking ingredient. Is there anything I can do to help with digestion. For context did big 5 no food intolerances other than eggs/Brazil nuts - FMD 21, HVM, CBO, CBO FIN, & FMD 7. I also ran allergy tests and nothing came back. I take HCL + digestive enzymes with meals to support digestion. Would love your insights Hannah: Hi Dr Cabral you're so amazing, thanks for all you do! I probably have some insulin resistance (years of high carb/ processed diet) GD during pregnancy (failed by 2 pts) tinnitus acquired during third trimester. Since the tinnitus started I have been determined to turn my health around for me and my family! I tried to do a 36 hour water fast and I became tachycardic, BG 44 after 35 hours and had to eat something. I am 4'11” 96lb, Any advice with how to fast while dealing with hypoglycemia? Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Amy: Hi Dr. Cabral. Recently, I was eating "healthy" ice cream and noticed an ingredient I am unfamiliar with, EPG. Its listed as a modified plant based oil and, upon a bit of research, I got the feeling this is another sneaky fat substitute that we might need to be aware of. Do you have any thoughts on this? Many thanks for everything you do in the health space :) Jennifer: Thank you for all your help and knowledge. Is there a root cause, or a way to heal an overactive bladder and lost of bladder control? Diego: Does the 21 day detox plan do away with heavy metals in our bodies? If not, what exactly will it remove? Yvonne: SaltAir UV – Ultrasonic Air Salinizer - love being in salt air - my skin loves it, psoriasis basically disappears in this environment and better for breathing rather than the dry environment I live in - will this product help or would it be harmful indoors since typically salt air, although good for us, is harmful to our homes and cars due to corrosion, etc.? Melissa: Hi Dr. Cabral - I recently took your food sensitivity test and had my coaching call but left with a couple questions still. I had a moderate sensitivity to egg whites and Brazil nuts and low sensitivity to pineapples and almonds. I was having eggs, almonds and Brazil nuts almost every day before the test. The reason I took this test is because my IgG levels have been very low since 2019 (could have always been low but this is when I first tested it). The coach said she couldn't tell me if my low IgG could be related to these sensitivities. I was hoping you could expand on this and provide some more insight into why this may or may not be correlated. Since they're both IgG related, I was hoping for a connection to maybe figure out why I have low levels (subclass 1, 2 & 4). Thanks! Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions! - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/3158 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr.
