Shawn Abhari is a published songwriter that has written and worked alongside multiple international Grammy winning and platinum-record songwriters and producers.  Shawn received his bachelors degree in music production from the Academy of Contemporary Music at UCO. Since then he has been traveling the world writing, producing and performing with his band: The Ivy. The Ivy duo [Shawn Abhari and Wyatt Clem] came together in Oklahoma's music scene, having first met at music production school. Being among the first indie pop bands in recent years to emerge from Oklahoma, the band has accomplished a lot already, completely organically. They wrapped up the summer playing a US tour supporting Grayscale, in the midst of their 4th EP release. Arsiak Vartenian and I met at a Broad Shoulders women's networking event in Chicago!  She's an open book, a role model for women, and had quite the emotional journey to becoming a mother.  Multiple miscarriages, IVF doctors, pregnancies, embryos, and surrogacy, is becoming a mom instinctual?  Did you make plans to become a parent? Did you talk to medical professionals to find out what to expect when you're expecting?  What kind of mother will you be?  What do you wish you knew before embarking on the parenthood adventure?  Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space For Controversy. Arsiak Vartenian, is a builder of women, the community, and the host of Smart is the New Sexy, an uplifting talk show, and online platform. She aims to highlight the power of dreaming big through storytelling, connection, community, and heart.  Arsiak grew up in Arkansas, where she never truly fit in. Her dreams often felt “too big” for her surroundings. With extended roots in Chicago, she knew that like the skyscrapers, the sky was the limit -- as soon as she could spread her wings, she moved north and signed up for college in the Windy City. College came to a close just shy of completing her senior year when Luxury Real Estate became the apple of her eye. She took a leap of faith and dove headfirst into her raw excitement. She put real estate on hold and returned to school to study Fine Arts & TV Production with a minor in journalism. Flash forward and you'll see the direct correlation to Smart is the New Sexy. It just took her a decade to really find her confidence and be in front of the camera. This confidence was shaped from active self-discovery but also listening and connecting with others' stories of challenge and triumph. You have got to put your personal priorities aside and you have got to start living for your children and for your wife. You have got to take up your responsibilities of prophet, priest and king in your home. What does that mean?Well, a prophet is one who directs you - He shows you the way... You have got to direct your family.A priest: You have got to get up in the morning before anybody else and your children must see that you are spending time in the presence of God before you go to work. You have to read those Bible stories to the children before they go to bed... and king? Well, the king is the one who produces the food - You have got to put the food on the table.You say: “I can't get a job at the moment.” That's okay, the family understands that but you really need to try. Remember your children won't do what you tell them to do - They will do what you do. I looked up the word 'Holy'. It means morally and spiritually excellent. Commandment number five is the first commandment in the Bible with a promise added to it: "Honour your father and your mother that your days may be long in the land."The biggest challenge we have at the moment is to teach men to be fathers in their home. Hear how Frank Serratore won Chris over at the Providence regional as Air Force proved themselves worthy of the NCAA field, and how Air Force won a coaching matchup for the ages in their regional semifinal against Western Michigan.  We also go over the wild North Dakota-BU game, Denver's dominance of the Midwest, and Notre Dame's amazing nine day turnaround against UMass-Lowell. Chris and I get into a little Hobey Baker talk, and for the second week I'm stumping to nobody in particular for Zach Aston-Reese, the Northeastern senior who would represent the school's first ever Hobey Baker Award winner.  Chris makes a strong case for Will Butcher, and we both discuss how Thursday night's game for Denver could sway the voting.  I've referred to Aston-Reese as the "leader in the clubhouse," but by that analogy Butcher still has a hole to play. In her process, she seems driven by forces beyond herself and the music puts you under the spell of those forces, which is why she was Nominated "Rookie Artist of the Year" at the 2014 Denniz Pop Awards. Sa’ra possesses that uncanny knack for drawing in a listener with triumphantly beautiful melodies and trippy beats while cleverly addressing the critical questions of her generation. We preview cuts from her debut album due out this fall and hear her inspiring story this Friday.
