Show Summary . From Sewing to Sowing . Tina is a Master Seamstress and an amazing woman but she landed in an abusive relationship that proved fatal one night when she was trying to defend herself. Tina didn't dream she'd go to prison because it was self defense but received a 20 year sentence. She did four years at the Hobby unit and while there, God changed her life and began developing her into the woman that she is today. . Tina returned home December 12, 2013. Once she returned home, she immediately began taking care of her obligations to the County of Dallas with overdue tickets and classes required of me with parole. After completing it all, she started her training to become a volunteer for the ministry she had completed while serving time within the faith dorm, Discipleship Unlimited. Once finishing that and being home for 18 months,she was able to start going in and sharing her testimony of hope. . After doing this for about 2 to 3 years, she was asked to come and share at the parole office by a local pastor and he mentored her with facilitating classes at the local parole office. She eventually met Chaplain Larry Garden who took her under his wings and had her trained to be a leader for the Overcomers program and appointed her solely to do classes at the current office she has been with since 2017 hosting 3 classes weekly.  . Tina is currently in school working on her BA & MA in ministry, with the goal to receive her doctorate in philosophy at Wheaton College Billy Graham Center.  . She will also be completing Minister In Training under the leadership of Chris Wesley, her senior pastor at Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church (where her and her family are active members) at the end of September and will be ordained as a minister. . Chris Bangs has been a pioneering and inspirational figure in the British underground dance scene and helped to light up the burgeoning black music dance scene of the early eighties.  Towards the end of the 80s, Chris really hit pay dirt as a musical trend-setter with the invention of Acid Jazz genre and as a producer and artist responsible for many early recordings on Eddie Piller's Acid Jazz label and Gilles Peterson's Talkin' Loud (producing Galliano's celebrated debut album). His talents were soon spotted outside of the acid jazz scene with Paul Weller utilising Chris' production skills on one of the stand out tracks from his debut solo album - Above The Clouds. The song is a favourite of so many fans, and Paul still features it on current tours. This liaison led to a partnership with Paul's former Style Council-er Mick Talbot as Yada Yada AKA SoundscapeUK - one of a whole range of projects marked by the Bangs stamp that have secured commercial and critical acclaim from the USA, Japan, Europe and Australia. I'm still here! It's been months since I posted an episode. I feel like so much has happened since my last episode. A lot of growth and introspection. I suddenly felt like it was time to record my thoughts this morning and I just started recording right then. I see this podcast evolving a bit from its original vision - but not entirely. I want to start focusing on a more holistic approach to living life to its fullest and seizing the day beyond just financial success. Building wealth will likely still have a place in the mix, but I want to focus on improving my/our mental game and how we approach life, work, family, friends, and the time we spend with our own mind. We don't have to look far to find lessons in the world around us. My guest Kurtis Hanni specifically finds financial lessons in the world around him. I found myself explaining the concept of investing and passive income to my 8-year-old as a way to get him excited to do his jobs to earn money towards his "payday" on Saturday. He doesn't feel the need to do his jobs since he already has some money. I'm trying to help him understand that if he keeps drinking water from a cup without adding more water, it will eventually be an empty cup. I then tried to help him understand the idea of making more than we spend so our money is growing rather than shrinking. That of course leads to the idea of taking our excess and investing it and having it grow while we sleep. I compared each of his invested dollars as being individual workers that are building more money for him. He then asked me how many "workers" he has in the stock market. He then wanted to know how many I have. I gave him a general answer of "thousands" compared to his roughly 200 workers to give him an idea of the possibilities. This may not have made a dent in his 8-year-old brain, but it sure got ME excited to get more dollar bills employed in the labor of makine me more passive income! I need to start taking more action and executing some of the ideas I have been thinking about! Let's get those dollars working for us! Does the skill of budgeting feel like something that has eluded you? Do you put it down on paper and it looks so good, but then at the end of the month your actual spending looks nothing like your plan? When it comes down to it, it is hard to say no to things we want, especially if we don't have enough confidence in our ability to stick to our budget in the first place. Having a realistic budget and sticking to it is possibly the most important first step to building wealth and executing our plans for building wealth. Today I speak with Erik Donohoo about budgeting and specifically using the " You Need a Budget" or "YNAB" app for budgeting. This is just one powerful tool we both love for budgeting but is of course not the only way to go. The important thing is to come up with a budget and sticking to it, and not beating yourself up when you don't. I have been reading a really excellent book call "The Simple Path the Wealth" by J L Collins (https://amzn.to/2U1y8S0). And it really has gotten my wheels turning on how I could better approach my investing journey. I have been using Betterment as a way to invest in various funds, but I've realized that the Vanguard VTSAX - Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (https://bit.ly/3qjhWaJ), is a really great fund that encompassed about 3,700 US businesses that is self-cleansing by removing the failed companies in the stock market from the fund over time. It has a great history of good performance that is low maintenance from an investor's perspective and has low fees (0.04% which is quite low as I understand it). I talk about why I have decided to move my money from Betterment into Vanguard, and why I am done playing the individual stock game via Robinhood (mostly done at least lol). Check it out and let me know what you think! I would love to hear feedback on what you do or do not agree with from my conclusions and on my new strategy moving forward. I also get into my plans to start moving a bit into staking with crypto. Still very fresh and new to this whole idea too, so that will be interesting and fun to explore and discover. I'm at a family reunion for the week and I learned some valuable life lessons while playing a game of "horse" with my 13-year-old nephew. If we tell ourselves we can't do something, the chances of failure increases. If we tell ourselves we CAN do something, the chances of success certainly increase as well. There is no formula for guaranteed success in everything we do, but we can move forward with confidence and personal belief knowing that is going to make a big difference. It could be argued that time is our most valuable asset. Some might consider money their most valuable asset, but good luck coming up with new ways to make money if you don't put in the time to learn financial and business principles and skills. Good luck create passive income if you don't take the time to learn new skills and brainstorm new ideas to pursue. Spending all our time making other people money will not take us as far as we truly could go either. If we don't put in the necessary time to grow and foster meaningful relationships with family and friends, then how can we truly appreciate and enjoy any wealth we do end up acquiring? This was a great conversation I had with Brian Schermerhorn, a software engineer with better.com! We talk about the value of having (and being) a mentor. What does it take to learn new things, and how to know what advice to follow or ignore? How and when to give constructive criticism and feedback? Something that really stood out to me in this conversation is how important it is to allow ourselves and others to make mistakes. If those opportunities are not afforded, then a huge amount of learning and growth is bypassed. It's so important to be willing to fail and "fail quickly"! There is a lot of talk of software engineering in this episode, but don't let that stop you from listening, because we are able to draw lessons that will apply to anyone on how to better learn and teach others, and how to be bold and take big risks that really pay off. Some more updates on outsourcing my photo editing in the effort to make my photography business more passive. In the process of learning about this and reaching out for help, I have realized how generous people can be with information and help. This is a great example of abundance. If we feel scarcity we might feel that helping others may give them an advantage that takes away from your own opportunities. The truth is there is more than enough to go around! I learned this when someone that could be considered my competition for real estate photography in my area went out of his way to reach out to me and help me improve my business. I discuss that experience in this episode where Ron Aguilar from Utah Valley Videos (UtahValleyVideos.com) helped me greatly and proactively called me and took time to allow me to pick his brain and further improve my process. Nothing is worse than when someone wants to rain on your parade! Some people defy what we can conceive to be within the realm of possibility. Some manage to do it again and again. A hero to many, one of the most accomplished and inspiring athletes in the world, a man with a beautiful message. Kilian Jornet has been an enigma since he took the world of mountain sports in the late 2000’s (I can’t just say mountain running because he also was winning world championships in ski mountaineering and taking on FKT expeditions). Having the opportunity to sit down with an idol was such a privilege, and Kilian did not disappoint. From his home in Norway, Kilian generously gave a few hours of his time to discuss his adventures, the training that powers these incredible feats, and what is driving him. A recent interview with author James Walsh (Remastered)   My debut novel ‘There’s No Drinking After You’re Dead’ was published by Griffiths Books in 2017. Second novel ‘Above The Clouds’ is due for release in 2018. I have no concept of genre; I just right fictional truth, real pretend people living real pretend lives! Novels about emotional responses to time and place; it’s tough out there! You know my characters; some of you might even have been my characters at some point in your lives.Also for 2018, a non-fiction book is planned for publication; ‘Porcelain Gods’, a fans reflection on the death of some of the worlds greatest rock stars. Again, it’s all about the emotional response.Aside from writing, I’m still going out singing, other people’s songs, in pubs and clubs; gotta pay the bills somehow.And I have a beautiful family. Two grown up kids from my first marriage, when I was a rubbish husband and father; and three children from my current marriage. I’m sober now; have been for 17 years; believe me, it makes a difference to someone like me.Life is good. Hard; but good. Big Love x
