Musician Ada Lea penned and demoed songs from her new album “one hand on the steering wheel the other sewing a garden” at an artist residency in Banff, but each song represents a dot linking her personal history to a map of Montreal. Montreal is the city where she grew up, and “damn” is one of those dots.
On today's episode, I talk to musician Cedric Noel. Montreal-based artist Cedric Noel has spent the past decade creating music informed by his unique worldview: He was born in Niger to Canadian and Mozambican/Belgian parents, spent his upbringing around the world, and is currently based in Canada. During this time, Cedric has released a number of critically praised full-length albums, EPs and collaborative works of his own, while also playing bass for acts like Ada Lea and many others. His latest album Hang Time is out now on Joyful Noise, and it's great! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.
Another packed episode with Weinhardt and Wendel. They interview singer-songwriter and all-round thoughtful guy, Jonathan (a.k.a. Sea Colour) about his new music. Plus, Chris and Ashley review music from Ada Lea, Ashley Shadow, and more. There's a Fact or Fiction segment too, this time on musical riders/demands. Finally, What's That Riff?! returns for one more round with a kind of Royal Blood / Metallica sounding riff. Can you work it out? Answers on Facebook or Instagram @bpmpod
