2011 song by Gotye ft. Kimbra
POPULARITY
A song that seemed to come out of nowhere and take over the whole world is a lot more than just well formulated pop, and a cover from a secret band. Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra, covered by Army of Three. Outro music is The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson.

It's not every-day that a musician creates a hit single so popular that it racks up over a billion views – and it's even rarer when that artist then drops off of the face of the planet – but somehow, that's exactly what happened to the man behind “Somebody That I Used To Know”, the enigmatic singer/songwriter known as Gotye. That single was a pop-culture staple of the early 2010's and took home a whole slew of awards including three Grammys for Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Alternative Music Album. And yet – soon after returning home from a World Tour, Gotye decided to move on from his world-famous persona to concentrate on a side-project, his alt-rock band The Basics. He's also worked hard to ensure that a pioneer of the electronic music genre will never be forgotten by preserving the musical legacy of his friend and mentor, Jean-Jacques Perrey. So, no, Gotye isn't passed away -- though you can bet that rumor sure made the rounds – instead, after achieving the very heights of success, he's decided to pursue his true passions even if that means shrinking away from the mainstream spotlight.

Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! Hello Fellow HOUSE FIENDS!!Can't believe it's been over a month since we had a chance to post a new house mix... where does the time go? With work and family there's hardly enough time for house... it's a crime.Jim, my DJ Partner and I are beat junkies and are constantly hunting for new tracks. Not "new" tracks meaning that they have to be current, just new to us. That's the great thing about house, the music is timeless and because it is so powerful when you hear it you, you instantly associate it with a fond memory. Constantly need an influx of 30-40tracks each month to keep us excited.Once in a while we find a house producer that just blows our minds (even though almost every track we buy blows our minds), so then we go raid their entire catalogue of tracks on one of our fav mp3 stores, and find a half dozen or more gems.Last producer I remember that we bought that many at one time was Sta Shiprinski. There are many house beat makers but the tracks that resonate are made with a house groove. You can't put a finger on it because it's different every time, but WOW... does it impact you. Especially after a long day of stressful work- CRANK it up!Anyways, we are so excited to find Nick Curly. Think this mix is almost a Nick Curly tribute because I think 6-8 of his tracks are on here out of the 30 or so. (That reminds me, I want to do a Phonique tribute some time in the future.)Curly's "Piano in the Dark" is the most beautiful house vocal track we've heard in 2012 so far. Every part of it! Hands in the air and close your eyes! The way house makes you feel every time. All the other tracks in this mix are killer too. Too many great house producers to really name. This is the BEST time for house music because there is soooooo much of it out there.Special Thanks to VINCE VEGA of INPUT RECORDINGS & WBI MUSIC for giving many fans on Facebook his beautiful bootleg remix of GOTYE, "Somebody That I Used To Know". Vince's bootleg of SADE's "HAUNT ME" is still one of my favourite vinyl records.Vince and many house producers in Toronto are emerging with their own unique vision of house and showing people that the hardcore house fanatics live in and love Toronto!!Thanks Justin Shaw aka, NOBLE for this image.---------------Reach out to us and comment. New Zealand singer-songwriter Kimbra joined us with her band and an impressive array of pedals, playing songs from her album Vows back in 2012. You might recognize her from her guest vocals on Gotye's multi-platinum hit "Somebody That I Used To Know." She also appeared in the viral video for that song as well - wearing nothing but a coat of paint. Kimbra joined us with her band and an impressive array of pedals for an in-studio performance, playing songs from Vows. She blew us away with her powerful vocals and expressive performance. And we weren't the only ones who were impressed: Her performance of "Settle Down" in the Soundcheck studio quickly became the most viewed video on WNYC's YouTube channel. Here's this from the archives... Set List: "Two Way Street" "Withdraw" "Settle Down"
As the claws of COVID-19 continue to spread into our everyday lives, it's worth taking a look back at the Hottest 100 of the Decade that took place just two weeks ago. Liam joins Benito and Jesse for this banter-heavy episode.
Greg and Eliza return to question Martin and Sam’s identity in this fifth track from Bone Machine, as Waits challenges an old lover, or maybe interrogates the music industry, or both? We make comparisons with a more even-handed musical picture of a breakup, and discuss how the song represents Waits and/or Brennan’s ideas of relationships. Song by Song is Martin Zaltz Austwick and Sam Pay; two musicians listening to and discussing every single Tom Waits track in chronological order. website: songbysongpodcast.com twitter: @songbysongpod e-mail: songbysongpodcast@gmail.com Music extracts used for illustrative/review purposes include: Who Are You, Bone Machine, Tom Waits (1992) Somebody That I Used To Know, Making Mirrors, Gotye feat. Francois Tetaz is an Australian music producer best known for his Grammy award winning collaboration with Gotye, ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ featuring Kimbra. I visited him at one of the studios he works from in LA ( where he now resides with his family ) to discuss what it is to be a producer and how he came up with the mantra, ‘I may be slow, but at least I’m expensive’.

Part 1 (9 - 10:15 PM) What an amazing night! It was my honor and privilege to DJ Fred and Jason's 8th Annual Halloweenie party in Los Angeles this year, opening for the absolutely amazing DJ Dave Aude. I wanted everyone to have more than pictures to remember the night by, so I recorded my set and I'm posting it in 2 parts here. Please share it if you enjoy it. One disclaimer, on Part 1, I had to cut out a couple of tracks that I'm not able to post online, out of courtesy for the DJs who passed along the remixes, so you'll hear a jump cut in one place between Avicii/Gotye and Rihanna/Right Now (where I cropped out these aforementioned wo mixes). Hope to see many of you on the dance floor again this weekend! My Upcoming Live Schedule: October 31st (Halloween night): Tortilla Republic, West Hollywood, 11 PM - 3 AM (DJ Dan Knapp plays before!) Hello Fellow HOUSE FIENDS!! Can't believe it's been over a month since we had a chance to post a new house mix... where does the time go? With work and family there's hardly enough time for house... it's a crime. Jim, my DJ Partner and I are beat junkies and are constantly hunting for new tracks. Not "new" tracks meaning that they have to be current, just new to us. That's the great thing about house, the music is timeless and because it is so powerful when you hear it you, you instantly associate it with a fond memory. Constantly need an influx of 30-40tracks each month to keep us excited. Once in a while we find a house producer that just blows our minds (even though almost every track we buy blows our minds), so then we go raid their entire catalogue of tracks on one of our fav mp3 stores, and find a half dozen or more gems. Last producer I remember that we bought that many at one time was Sta Shiprinski. There are many house beat makers but the tracks that resonate are made with a house groove. You can't put a finger on it because it's different every time, but WOW... does it impact you. Especially after a long day of stressful work- CRANK it up! Anyways, we are so excited to find Nick Curly. Think this mix is almost a Nick Curly tribute because I think 6-8 of his tracks are on here out of the 30 or so. (That reminds me, I want to do a Phonique tribute some time in the future.) Curly's "Piano in the Dark" is the most beautiful house vocal track we've heard in 2012 so far. Every part of it! Hands in the air and close your eyes! The way house makes you feel every time. All the other tracks in this mix are killer too. Too many great house producers to really name. This is the BEST time for house music because there is soooooo much of it out there. Special Thanks to VINCE VEGA of INPUT RECORDINGS & WBI MUSIC for giving many fans on Facebook his beautiful bootleg remix of GOTYE, "Somebody That I Used To Know". Vince's bootleg of SADE's "HAUNT ME" is still one of my favourite vinyl records. Vince and many house producers in Toronto are emerging with their own unique vision of house and showing people that the hardcore house fanatics live in and love Toronto!! Thanks Justin Shaw aka, NOBLE for this image. All the best everyone and please comment if you are feeling these mixes! Cheers, dattrax THIS MIX FEATURING HOUSE TRACKS BY: Nick Curly, Victor Polo, Deel Dj, Medeiros, VINCE VEGA, Monodeluxe, N'dinga Gaba feat.mOsno, Ivan Iacobucci, Lahib Alekozei, Villanova, Sendos Fuera, Pablo Fierro, H2, Robag Wruhme als Die Dub Rolle, SIS, Leon, A Klass feat. Those who have experienced Coachella know what a magical musical experience it is. There's nothing quite like watching the sun set in the Indio desert, as the night lights up in neon colors while you & your friends are hustling from finishing hearing one amazing band in order to catch the tail end of another. This year was my 2nd Coachella, and it was marked by an amazing time with great friends, old and new alike. This year's Coachella was especially strong in the EDM arena. Many of us listened to dance music long before its time in the limelight; as it has been for the past couple of years. Festival headliners including Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Alesso, Avicii, Martin Solveig and Jacques Lu Conte all played Coachella sets -- and not just once this year, but rather, two weekends in a row. They brought guests on stage for their sets which included Rihanna, Usher, Sia, Dragonette and more. The two parts of this Podcast represent the best of the electronic music that I heard this year at Coachella. Certain songs -- the Alesso remix of David Guetta's "Titanium" (feat. Sia), the Knife Party remix of Swedish House Mafia's "Save The World," Sebastian Ingrosso's "Calling" and Avicii's "Fade Into Darkness" vs. Florence + The Machine's "You've Got The Love", Avicii's "Levels" and Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" (which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 the same week) -- seemingly showed up in every DJ set. So, I present for you... the EDM Coachella that I, DJ Blacklow, experienced in 2012 -- it might have been slightly different for you, but these were the songs that have been stuck in my head for a full week since my drive back to LA on the 10 freeway. The mixing's not perfect (it can be hard syncing a 95 BPM song into a 128!), and it's some of the most driving music I've DJ'd with to date. I hope you enjoy... and if you, pls post and share with your friends and followers on social media.
